We looked at the reviews on yelp and they looked legit. That was how we came here to try their Indian food. We got to the restaurant, sat down, ordered and waited for food. We waited for more than half an hour. Before we arrived, an Indian lady had been waiting for so long that her face turned black already (I.e. she was very upset to wait for her takeout because of waiting for a super long time). I was going to rate this restaurant three stars before I tried it due to the slow pace of serving. My husband asked me to be patient and convinced me that the Indian food should be really good and it should be better than the ones we tried in Vancouver. Finally the food had arrived slowly and gradually!!!! Oh my god!!! The first dish of lamb curry and the second dish of palak paneer were really good. The chicken biryani and pulao rice were extraordinary that we had never had such good fried rice with many colourful ingredients and spices. The fragrance of each dish dispersed right in front of me. I was eating the most delicious Indian food in my life that I couldn't compare it with the ones in Vancouver! The Indian food in Vancouver was not as good as this one in surrey; plus the ones in Vancouver cost more!! The roti and naan were freshly made. So good!!! The mango lassi was excellent as well! It was not cold. It was at room temperature, but it went well with the spicy Indian food! What a good combination!! There is parking outside the restaurant. A small and hidden gem in the heartland of Surrey, Swagat Indian Restaurant is one restaurant that people will likely not know about, but definitely should! Located at the back of the plaza just behind an animal hospital, its not exactly an obvious location for a restaurant. However, for those who do find this quaint little business, they will be in for a delight. The prices here are extremely competitive and very reasonable. Just to name a few examples - a nicely sized portion of chicken biryani is only $10 while naan is only $1! The restaurant, which appears to be locally owned, seems mostly focused on takeout rather than dining in. Regardless, like other reviewers have said, your meal will be fragrant, delicious and rich in flavour. Some may describe the portions as a bit on the small side (the portions are nicely sized for a lunch meal rather than dinner), but it makes for a great addition add-on - like a mango lassi or dessert. Our waitress, despite being the sole worker on the front line, was attentive and kind, and always came back to fill our water. Overall, if I'm ever back in this part or Surrey - I will be sure to pick up some food here! I decided to stop by this restaurant to try a few items. I ordered 25 samosas and 2 lbs of veggie pakora for a potluck I was attending. I could not figure out the pricing as I was charged $26.75. The cashier stated samosas were $0.50 each and that veggie pakora was $3.99 a pound when I asked. 25 samosas x $0.50 = $12.50 and 2 lbs x $3.99 = $7.98. I could not figure out the math as I assume it was basic algebra, but I was already out the door and trying to make it to the potluck on time. The samosas did come with dipping sauces. The pakora did not look like 2 lbs when I compare it to other restaurants I have ordered from. The menu pricing seems reasonable. However, I do not understand how they price take out items so would go to other restaurants in the area for take out instead. I usually order appetizer items for parties I attend or hosts. My mistake for not doing the math beforehand and driving during rush hour while trying to get somewhere on time. 3 stars for the food. It tasted alright. The samosa were nicely made and spicy. This little place is truly a hidden gem and definitely deserves 5 stars in terms of the food. Its hidden away in a retro 70's-80's strip mall/ office place on 152. It only has seating for about 22-24 people and looks like its more a take out place. We ordered chicken Korma, Lamb Korma, Lamb Curry, Fish Curry, and Eggplant Bartha with side of rice, Roti and Naan. All were extremely well flavoured and not overly salty. Perfect balance. The Kormas were amazingly creamy and you could distinguish the different curries from each other. Not like some places where all the dishes just kind of taste the same and blend into one. And portions were excellent. Price is cheaper than most restaurants but its more of a take out place than a restaurant so that could be why. Servers were OK and friendly. English was not bad. Only bad part was you could not give the server a tip on the debit machine. Made me a little suspicious in terms of the employees work situation or how owners gave their employees the gratuity. read more

The biryani was decent, but outshined by the other food. The aloo paratha & garlic naan were both fantastic. The staff provided complimentary Raita and veggies, which was a nice touch. The staff spoke little English, so I recommend doing some preliminary menu research if you're unfamiliar with Indian dishes. They also toned down the spice quite a bit (medium tasted mild), so order it spicier than you want it. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town. After four days of reading reviews for good Indian food in Surrey I settled on Swagat. Smaller venue but clean and bright. Great service but it was all about the food. Great indian food. However, whenever we order for pick up, we always end up having an item less(extra orders of naans). I guess they get mixed up with orders or just forget to put the extra orders which is still charged in our bill. Anyway, we'd still buy from them as I said they have good food. read more

Went there about a month ago. Place was clean, staff were friendly and polite. They made suggestions on what to order. It appears to be a family affair. We had butter chicken, and goat masala to dine in and a dozen samosas 1/2 veg 1/2 chicken to go. Food was up fairly quick and I indicated I liked spicy so it was. The flavours were rich and complex and we enjoyed the meal thoroughly. The location is convenient with lots of parking and the prices were reasonable. This place started off okay as we used it a few times, but ended up horribly. We ordered chana masala for pick up and some pooris on the side. We asked for mild and dairy free as we're vegan. The food was just awful. If you can imagine a tin of chickpeas thrown into some tomato sauce. If I'm paying restaurant prices I expect some quality. I called the restaurant and after come commotion and the owner yelling at me, he hangs up. I called back saying how rude and unprofessional it was for him to hang up and they said, we'll make you new food for tomorrow. So I called the next day and place the same order (a chance for redemption) and then the same man calls me back saying he wants me to bring yesterday's order back. I told him I don't have it as he didn't specify that the day before. But by then, I'm just done with him and his insolence. This was my first visit to this restaurant and I have to say I am really impressed. From the customer service to the food = amazing. I placed a takeout order yesterday and confirmed the prices over the phone. When I got to the restaurant I was greeted warmly by the woman at the counter. I was early so had to wait and the woman kept apologizing for the wait. I was offered a seat and water. Once the food was ready a gentleman and another lady came out and also greeted me warmly. Once I paid the lady at the counter offered to help me take the bags to my car. I didn't realize until I got home but I was given a bit of a discount and there was a box of besan in there as well. Oh and the food was amazing (chaat papri, daal tardka, chicken tikka masala, chawal, plain naan and garlic naan). I will definitely be back for the customer service and the food read more
