It's a Vietnamese owned New Orleans style restaurant but the owner keeps halal meat. Easy ordering process. The inside is quite spacious. The owner was extremely friendly as well. We ordered the following items: Fried Chicken Po-Boy, Roast Beef Po-Boy, Grilled Chicken Po-Boy, Bourbon Fried Chicken, Chicken Gumbo, Jambalaya and Shrimp Etoufee. I really enjoyed the po-boys especially the fried chicken and roast beef. Chicken was well breaded and spiced. The roast beef had this sauce which made it taste even better. The bourbon friend chicken was also really good. Jambalaya was solid. The gumbo and etoufee were okay (I probably wouldn't get these again). Overall great service and great food. I would definitely go back for the po-boys and fried chicken. I will definitely try other items as well. Hopefully next time I go they will have the bread for the muffulettas. read more

My husband, a Louisiana native and VERY PICKY about Cajun food, found Swamp Cafe in an internet search. We drove over an hour to get there and it was worth every minute of the drive!!! Jambalaya- my new crave! My daughter arrived home from Houston for (what we thought) was Spring break. We didn't feel like eating in so decided on take-out from somewhere neither of us had tried. Has a very disappointing Fat Tuesday dinner here. It took one half of our group 35 minutes to get our food. The other half did not get their food for 60 minutes after ordering. Others waited as long for their take out orders. It was REALLY frustrating. I had the Jambalaya which was just ok. It too spicy for my palate, and I gave ordered Jambalaya a lot. Worst Roast Beef PoBoy and Muffaletta I have ever eaten. These are my first "go to's" at any new "PoBoy/ NOLA influenced Sandwich Shop"... Swamp Cafe failed on both... The RB PoBoy - First, the gravy was off and was not like any other RB gravy I have ever had... I could not put my finger on what I was tasting, but it was not good. The actual meat was prepared all wrong and was next to flavorless... Instead of Debris or sliced the meat was in chunks... Big hunks of meat for a sandwich of any type and more appropriate for a stew or as a main entree to be served with some mashed potatoes... The hunks of beef had next to no seasoning and over a 1/4 of them were still attached to chewy un-rendered fat... After 3 bites I turned to the "Muffaletta" in order to cleanse my palate... This sandwich had no business being called a Muffaletta... It was 3 large/thick slices of processed turkey loaf (think SPAM, but made of Turkey), A super thick slice of Swiss cheese, and about a teaspoon of olive dressing... The only thing I could taste was the cheese periodically interrupted with a faint whiff of olive... I have seen this little spot for a couple of months as I drive by with intentions of giving them a try. Restaurant business is brutal with a 90% failure rate. You have to love it to do it. It is very clean and utilitarian. Not plus. Truly a little cafe. Owners are Asian but from New Orleans. Lived there 30 years. Very nice & friendly. The menu is on the overhead board. You order at the counter under the board. You also pay here. The menu has cajun items. I ordered the seafood gumbo with the rice on the side. The hush puppies and beignets. Everything is cooked to order. Expect to wait a few minutes for your food. When my food was brought out, it is served on to go / disposable serve ware. I dont mind this. Perfectly ready to take home what you dont finish - cafe style & sanitary. The seafood Gumbo was authentic. Very good with dark roux gravy. The rice was perfect. The hush puppies were very good. Bits of corn in them, tasty, hot & crisp. The beignets were awesome, fresh & hot. I went for a 2nd visit to pick up a to go order on a Friday night at about 6:45 pm. They were almost full. This made me happy for them. Restaurant business. This is a hard working family. Husband & Wife. Tonight the sun was on the register taking orders. I ordered the NOLA Fried catfish dinner (comes with fries, coleslaw & hush puppies). I also ordered beignets and an additional order of hush puppies. The Lady/Wife owner recognized me from last time. Stopped in yesterday after searching for Cajun food while apartment hunting. Wife is from New Orleans so we're always looking for new places for Louisiana cuisine. After talking to the owner while looking at the menu, we were excited to try things out. I had the oyster poboy and she had the Friday catfish special. The poboy was excellent! The bread was crusty and flaky and the oysters were fried perfectly. The catfish sandwich was great as well, as the fish was cooked very well. The special came with a cup of crawfish etouffee, hushpuppies, and a bag of chips. The etouffee was outstanding. The roux was incredibly dark and rich, and didn't require any additional seasoning. I also had a great cup of cafe au lait, and we finished things off with some wonderful beignets. Overall, a really great new place for Lousiana cooking. The owner was very friendly, which is always a plus! We came back today for some more coffee and beignets, and I anticipate many future visits to try the rest of the menu. read more

PoBoys are dyno-mite! The bread is authentic, which is really tough to find in Dallas. Roast beef and shrimp PoBoy are on-point! French fries are fresh and crispy. Red beans and rice is a little different than your typical because there is no ham-hock (it's halal, duh), and not as creamy, but it's still good. Apparently he has 30years ofcooking experience with more than half of that cooking in the French quarter; it definitely shows! I ordered the beignets by phone and was told that it would be ready in 5 min. 5 min later, I had asked the lady on the phone if she'd please put the beignets on top of a piece of paper towel instead of directly in the styrofoam box. I explained that I do not eat food that has touched styrofoam. When I arrived 5 min later, the beignets were piping hot and ready to pick up. She double bagged the beignets in paper bags. She did not use a styrofoam box at all. Yay! Anyways, the beignets are better than the ones they sell at Cafe Beignet in New Orleans. Swamp Cafe's beignets are fluffier. Also, they gave me plenty of powdered sugar at the bottom of the bag for me to dip the beignets in, if I chose to do so. However, the beignets sold here are not s crispy as the ones sold at Cafe du Monde in New Orleans. The restaurant is very clean and decorated tastefully. The lady who worked there was very pleasant and helpful. In addition to dining in, I recommend ordering your food to go on the phone as they were very prompt with my phone order. This place is gem. The owner is from New Orleans so the food authentically cajun. He was also super friendly and even gave us some free bengiets. We had the jumbolaya and seafood platter. Both were very good. Can't wait to come back to try the other dishes! On top that the place is spotless. Always a positive when you don't have to deal with sticky tables. Update January 2022. We ordered lunch from them on December 24 through their website. Was immediately charged through PayPal for the order. I went to go pick it up and the doors were locked. The owner came to the door. I explained we'd ordered online. He indicated they could not fill the order and that he'd refund the PayPal charge. I've since called, and emailed and he never processed the refund. FWIW since Swamp Cafe didn't complete the order that they've not refunded, I ended up ordering catfish from What's Cluckin'.
