We ate there for the first time last night, 2-21-18, and I gave it great remarks!! Everyone has there opinion and that's what's great. I like the décor inside. The Houston Muriel inside is really tight!! It's a modern layout to relax and chill with your friends and family. I like the music playing too. It makes you comfortable. As for location, please, people act like it's the slums. It's Houston baby!! We are different from anywhere in the world!! The food is pretty good to me. Heard alot about this place so gave it a try must be a hit & miss place because I didn't enjoy my food I got fried fish & shrimp with fries the plate comes with catfish but I got it substituted for tilapia for an extra $2 . The fish was dry & over cooked the fries wasnt hot & shrimp was okay . Someone in my party got a City pack which is snow crabs & shrimp, it was good so I should of got that instead. The smoothie tastes like Kool Aid, if you're want your smoothie full of sugar you will like it. If you let the smoothie sit for a while you will see the sugar settle at the bottom. Swamp City was just ok for me. The rice was way too spicy and I spent majority of my time wiping my nose from the food being so spicy. I feel like the price is too high for fried spicy rice. I did enjoy the frozen drinks they had to offer. I had the mango flavored slushee. read more

Swamp city is doing several things right. On my first visit I was encouraged to try the turkey necks... YES, turkey necks. The seasoning is great and the amount that you get for 4.99 is generous. Turkey necks at a seafood joint was a pleasant surprise. Now, the fried catfish was crispy and well seasoned. The cajun fried rice stole the show. This rice has crawfish, shrimp, and vegetables and it tastes like it was cooked in crawfish boil. It is so delicious. If you are ever in the neighborhood, Stop by. Swamp City in concept is the cousin of Lotus Seafood, the menus are similar but the business is ran differently. Swamp city is definitely more technology driven with the fancy tablets to ring up orders and quick checkouts. It's a pretty small space very modern with cute jazzy art on the walls. Also this place is very clean and neat, unlike Lotus. I ordered the large fried shrimp and shimp fried rice. The shrimp are crunchy, delicious and well seasoned, and the rice is full of flavor and packed with shrimp. The service was quick and friendly, overall yep, Swamp City is on my list of favorites. I went here with a friend for the first time today for lunch and was there around 11:30. I will start by saying that I am giving this place only 1 star, because we didn't even get to try the food. We walked in and there were five people in line ahead of us in line. That's no problem, the place had a good number of people already sitting and eating, so that was a good sign. There are two registers there where you order, that's not a problem either and it makes sense because they place is not a huge place. The male cashier was busy talking and flirting it seemed with the four female customers he was helping. I didn't hear him take their order, but he was talking to them about buying IPhones and IPads and stuff like that. This is fine really, cashiers are allowed to do that kind of thing. I just do not think that it should be done, when there are other customers waiting in line to place their order. The friend and I stood in line, waiting to place our order with one of the two cashiers, but after 20 minutes we decided that we would just go somewhere else, because the line was not moving at all. I am not sure if it is this way all the time at Swamp City and I don't plan on finding out, because I will never go there again. At first I thought it was just a sister company to Lotus but maybe its just the style of cooking ‍ either way I felt the customer service was better then Lotus and since its new of course it was clean and fresh looking. The soda machine was down so you only had two options Coke or Dr Pepper. The City pack was good and not greasy just wish it had a little more flavor just a tad bit more. The swap sauce was just okay. I actually thought it was going to make the rice lit but nope. The corn had no flavor at all and the crab legs were just okay. So it wasn't that this spot was bad at all. Thank goodness for Swamp City opening in this area! I work close by and decided to try it out one day since I love crawfish and seafood. I will have to be honest and say that it is truly amazing! Service was top notch! Food came out extremely fast! There's plenty of seating here too if you decide to eat during the busy lunch rush. I ordered the boiled crawfish and fried oysters with a side of Cajun rice. Everything was seasoned to perfection! I also ordered a mango slush with rainbow jelly. It was made perfect not too sweet.
