I am pretty confident this is one of the fancier restaurants this part of town has ever seen, even though Swamp City is just a counter service place. I tried several different items on the menu like I typically do at new places and I was thoroughly impressed. Between the boiled crawfish, shrimp fish and oyster platter, mini city platter and boiled shrimp, I liked the boiled shrimp and boiled crawfish the best. For the price, it was an excellent value since you receive a lot of food. My visit wasn't without problems of course. The crawfish flavor was great, but they were overcooked slightly since the meat kept sticking to the shells. With the shrimp, oyster and fish platter, I liked the fish the best. Nothing wrong with the fried oyster or fried shrimp, but they were small and the catfish was overall tastier. They didn't provide any sauce to dip my fried shrimp into and only had sriracha ketchup, jalapeno ketchup and Tabasco at the table. Mini city is an awesome value and so much food ...it could easily make 2-3 meals for only $6.99. It includes about 4 large shrimp in addition to bay shrimp and crawfish mixed into the cajun seasoned rice. None of my dishes were very spicy, but the rice may have been the spiciest. They didn't ask if I wanted any additional sauces. I went up to the counter and asked what the small cups of sauce were, and they just handed a couple to me complimentary. They're good for dipping crawfish into since it's mostly seasoned clarified butter. Service was great. Our first time and she was very patient with us as we ordered. We ordered everything spicy; boiled shrimp, shrimp fried rice. Both were excellent - our favorites of everything sampled. We also tried the fried shrimp, fried oysters, fried catfish and onion rings. I ordered online,, paying with my bank card. I received an email that I would need to present my card and Id when picking up. I called and told her that my daughter,, who literally lives less than a minute away from the restaurant was picking up my order,,and that she has my confirmation number. This woman told me to send my daughter a picture of my card and she would show it to them. WELL!!!!!!!!! What kind of fool does she think I am ... Randomly found this place thanks to a Yelp search and I'm glad I did. This restaurant has everything I want in a dining establishment: Cajun food, boba drinks (slushes) and cute decor. I was super hungry so we ordered a number of things off the menu to try and we're pleased with them all for the most part... The spicy crawfish was delicious and we accidentally ordered the shrimp and crawfish fried rice instead of the Cajun fried rice. Would've definitely preferred the seasoning on the rice, but it wasn't bad for what it was. I also ordered the boiled shrimp with was full of flavor along with a strawberry pineapple slush. Yum x 2. The slush's ingredients separated too quickly though, it was like it wasn't blended with ice but water. Either way, I'd eat here again with no problem. The only negative thing I'd share is a lack of professionalism from the employees. I overheard their conversation behind the register pretty much the entire time I was there and it wasn't because I was being nosey. One young man, in particular, was obnoxiously loud and it was distracting. And another young lady who worked there used profane language. The set up was wonderful there was a beautiful mural and nice booth seating. I had the fried oysters they tasted great but were somewhat small. The prices were very reasonable. They also sell coffees and teas which was a nice added bonus. The oysters and fries were only 5.99. Some may not feel comfortable in this area it did not bother me. I did not like the fact that a person was panhandling inside the restaurant while people were trying to eat and the employees said nothing. read more

This was my first time here and I am quite disappointed. I ordered the 2 fish and 6 oysters plate along with 1/2lb of the boiled shrimp. The young man that helped me order was very nice. BUT I asked just for the oysters to be fried extra crispy and my ENTIRE plate was fried extra crispy. Then the shrimp were extremely overcooked. I tore majority of my shrimp trying to peel the shell; that is unacceptable. I ate one piece of fish because it was fried too hard and only only 2 oysters because they ended up being soggy. I have been trying to call to speak to someone about my meal but keep getting a voicemail. I will probably not return to this place. First time visiting and the place was jumping. Placing my order was easy, but the order was not filled correctly and 2lbs of the crawfish was missing from my order. I also order the fish and shrimp with fries and that was a mistake l. The fish is thin like cardboard and rubbery. The prices were good it was the confusion in the kitchen and the cardboard fish that made my experience not so favorable. The people that I was sharing dinner with me were disappointed in our meal. I was referred here by a friend so far the food is decent. Very fresh seem to be made to order. Really don't care for the music blaring in the place. I will definitely take my order to go next time. I must say they are very pricey be careful and ask questions for the price of substitutes,add-ons and sauces. This is a very casual restaurant and it's not located in the best neighborhood but most should be safe there is a police presence inside the establishment and it's only 4pm.There is a cool mural on the back wall that represents the city of Houston in a great way. Warning this is not a kid friendly establishment if you don't want your kid to be exposed to explicit rap music definitely leave them home. Tried this place out because I was looking for a restaurant in between Spring and the Galleria area to meet my friend halfway and this was the first restaurant that popped up on yelp. Read a lot of the reviews, saw how clean the restaurant looked through the pictures, and seemed fairly new so we went and gave it a try. I'm assuming because it's a new restaurant all our food came out in to go boxes even though we told them we were dining in. Silverware was plastic as well and our water came in styrofoam cups. I don't know if this is something that's going to continue to happen but it would be nice if the food came out on actual plates soon! What made me not happy about this place was that they charged us for water. Sigh. And it wasn't even bottled water. 50 cents for a cup of water. Is this usually reasonable for restaurants? I was just a little taken back that's all. What we ordered: Mini City Pack: Cajun fried rice with a special type of boiled peeled shrimp. I give it a thumbs up because the shrimp was peeled which I wasn't expecting but ughh SO salty. Fish nuggets: the nuggets were moist and juicy but again, wayyyy too much seasoning. I felt like I was eating salt water. Special house fried chicken: again.. it was too salty for my taste. I completely understand Cajun food has a kick with the seasoning but it was just way too much for me and I've been to a lot of Cajun/seafood/crawfish restaurants in Houston. Something that caught my attention in a very positive way was that the crawfish at the time was only $5.99 a pound and $25 for 5 pounds I believe, and that's a steal for Asian flavored crawfish. If I ever came back, I would want to try the crawfish for sure! Also, I judge a place by the quality of their sauces. Is that too much or nah? They didn't have cocktail sauce but they had tartar sauce for the fish and the sauce just didn't taste very fresh nor good. Same thing with the ranch as well. When I pulled into the parking lot and found there were no spaces available and a line around the corner, I knew I'd descended upon the right place. The place was full of people waiting and some were eating. I ordered the fried shrimp and updated to fried rice and 1/2 pound of boiled shrimp. I added the Swamp Sauce. All was to-go. The weight was not for the faint of heart but they was moving pretty fast. Although I was about 20 minutes away from home, when I sat down to eat, my eyes rolled into the back of my head. Oh-Em-Gee. Everything was so good. I also ordered too much. I rewarmed the boiled shrimp the next day and it was just as good as the first day. That rewarmed factor is off the charts. They get a 4 star due to food quality and value, plus area of town. I would revisit them again for sure and definitely call my order in again. If any hint, when a cop is on duty at your restaurant and they have to open your to go containers to show you your order you kinda know what you're getting. But to me, it's all good!
