I went to Sway on a Wednesday evening for dinner. Since it was mid-week, the restaurant wasn't busy with people eating dinner. There were maybe 2 other couples eating dinner and everyone else was at the bar for after-work drinks. Half of the restaurant wasn't lit and was closed. We walked around the restaurant for 5 minutes looking for a host/hostess to seat us. The only employee we could find was the bartender, who was very busy with the bar crowd. Finally a waiter came out of the kitchen and helped us find a table and menus. I ordered the Spicy Shrimp and Grits after seeing great reviews about it. I'll add to those great reviews! The portion size is large, the grits are really creamy and rich, the sausage provides the perfect level of spice, and the shrimp is plentiful. I really enjoyed the dish! My wife ordered the ribs, which come with "bacon" Mac and cheese and a carrot/apple slaw. They must've forgot the bacon on the Mac and cheese or forgot to change the menu - no bacon to be found. Overall, the food is great. It was $60 for 2 entrees and a soda, which seemed a touch pricey. Service is definitely lacking, and I'm not sure the value is enough to justify the price. Thankfully we had a $25 restaurant.com coupon that helped offset the poor service and expensive entrees. read more

Sway is a great spot downtown to eat tasty fried chicken. You get a half of a chicken with Greens, Mashed potatoes, and thick gravy. Their mashed potatoes are full of flavor, and you can get them with or without horseradish. They used to offer a NY strip, but now a ribeye, which I found to be less than desirable. It was chewy and overall didn't have the best taste. Stick with the chicken. The atmosphere here is wonderful. The walls look like wooden boards stacked on top of each other. They have a couch area if you're looking to be casual, or a white cloth area for something more romantic. read more

In the Hyatt, nice outdoor menu. Great list of shareables and food. We shared bourbon bbq glazed chicken tenders, not fans of the glaze, and the cheese board. The spiced walnuts on the cheese board were tasty, the cheeses (4) were good with jam and honey. The chorizo meat was strange looking, we passed, it also had ham and assorted crackers and bread. I really enjoyed the fried green tomatoes! They were crispy and full of flavor and the remoulade was spicy and delicious. The biscuits and mini corn muffins that accompanied it were tasty as well. There could have been a bit more honey in the butter but...let's be honest...I didn't need it. They were great! I also ordered a cup of the roasted sweet corn chowder which was satisfying and made my belly feel nice and warm (it's 45 degrees outside!) and it was very yummy too! The service could not have been better. Often when I travel alone, I'm hesitant to eat in a restaurant because I feel like I get second rate service since the tip isn't likely to be as big. My server, Jean, made me feel like the only one here even though there's a good size crowd. She was incredibly attentive and her tip (and my return visit for breakfast in the morning) will reflect that. This is a place with good potential, but is brought to its knees by the people working there. Great food, great drinks, and horrible service!! We started off with a couple of drinks and an appetizer. The waitress never came to check on us. About 20-30 mins after our food arrived, we walked up to the hostess asking for our waitress, and she responded "Are you ready to pay?". So they just assumed we weren't getting a main course!! Another 10mins later, we got our food to go. Didn't here any apologies or explanations for the delay, just a bunch of curt responses. Our infant kid wasn't feeling too good during our visit, and the staff was very accommodating and helping in that scenario. Maybe they were just politely trying to get us out. It could be an off day, but our first experience here was not great. We sat for about 20 min before asking if we could place an order. Then it took around 45 min to bring out the food. This is my 1st time here and I couldn't even get out of the building before writing this review. I'm giving 2 stars for the service and the Mountain Dew. I was hoping for a great experience based on reviews. So, about those Fried Green Tomatoes...they were beautifully fried to a nice golden brown. I cut the first slice and took a bite and they must have forgotten to season them because they were tasteless and bland. Definitely not what I expected at a place labeled as southern cuisine. Next up the fried chicken plate. Again, the chicken was a beautiful golden brown. You get 4 pieces with the plate which is great. However, the chicken lacked flavor. The greens were good, although they tasted too much like Glory Greens out of the can. The mashed potatoes looked so delicious, but did not taste good at all and the gravy was extremely watery. Apple Cobbler...not impressed at all and it's an additional charge for ice cream. All in all, I would not recommend unfortunately. Southern cuisine is flavorful. Not salty and not bland either. I've had my share of southern flare being raised by a southerner. But everyone's taste and pallet is different. Glad I at least tried it so I could stop wondering. read more

I have been here twice, once most recently for for a special event. They're involved in this 502 Foodie shenanigans and you should not miss out on these shenanigans. I had a sandwich before (someone else was paying) and more recently the fried chicken lunch. The fried chicken lunch was good, the mashed potatoes needed the gravy it came with, but the best part of the lunch was the greens. I normally don't like the greens (I like other vegetables) but these were easily the best greens I had ever had. I strongly recommend this if you're downtown and need to eat lunch. My only complaint is that my appetizer - which was part of the special promotion - was one deviled egg (two halves of an egg). Deviled eggs are eaten by reasonable, God-fearing people by the dozens (not to mention what those charlatans following Orange Man about) so a single deviled egg only serves to stoke my hanger. Our server, Kelly, had a great sense of humor and was wonderful. The service here was good. Also, the people watching (if you're trash like me and do that) is great. read more

We were so disappointed. Had reservations and ended up in the bar. Understaffed. Bartender found us a table for our grown children and one two year old. 15 minutes. The room was less than half full. Waited another 15 minutes and had to go to the bartender again to get water and menus. Never got water or menus. Said would be a few more minutes as the two bartenders were the only staff. As far as I could tell the people seated at the bar got excellent service. After another 10 minuets we left. This place is not cheap and has a great sounding menu, but treats customers worse than McDonald's. I'm sure no one will ever see this review but I had to vent. So sad. Attached to the Hyatt, this is one of a few Sway restaurants out there, however this one is a little different as I found out. I'm a yankee. Not a NY one, but just a guy who lives above the Mason/Dixon. So, I've never had really amazing Southern Fried Chicken. I found myself wandering around Louisville, and just stopped in here on a whim because my CTO mentioned it was good. I sat at the bar while the Mother's all had their brunch on their Day. While talking over the menu with the bartender, he let me in a secret. The southern fried chicken here isn't the Sway recipe. It's Mel's recipe. Mel does the staff meals, and when Sway decided to open up in the Hyatt, the kitchen staff took his recipe and the corporate recipe around, and did a taste test. 85%+ for Mel's. So... that's what they serve. I got dark meat fried chicken, collard greens, and mashed potatoes with gravy of course. It was incredibly crispy and crackling on the outside, and succulent on the inside. Yes. SUCCULENT. I was amazed at how much better it was then any fried chicken I've ever had before. The place itself is nice, and solidly in the vein of hotel restaurant. The staff is very nice, and the bartender I had introduced me to an offshoot of the Gin and Tonic I've come to know and love. I hadn't heard of a Gin Press before, but I have now, and I may never go back. I am a huge fan. I generally never give chains 5 stars, but this place gets it. We had reservations because there was a convention in town, a concert at Yum and a show at the Mercury Ballroom that we were attending. However, the place had zero people sitting at tables when we arrived at 630pm. They were several people at the bar. Now, the place is on the bottom floor of a hotel, and the layout of the place is completely confusing. There is no formal stand to check in or try to find out where the host stand is. We walked around a few times trying to get someone's attend to seat us. It took about 5 minutes. Then it took another 10 minutes before we met our server. I decided to start with the fried green tomatoes and every table always gets biscuits and cornbread. Both of these were good, so we were excited for the main course. The biscuits and cornbread with the sweet butter was sweet and savory all at once. I loved them. You receive 3 large fried green tomatoes with a spicy sauce. It was a good size app to share with one or two people. After this though, our meal took a turn for the worse. I had the chicken and waffles that comes with hot sauce and a spicy maple syrup. The chicken was not very meaty at all and tasted like they were frozen then heated up. The waffle was nothing special either; Nick compared it to the make-your-own waffles at the free breakfast bars at hotels. Nick went with the From the Smoker which is ribs, brisket and pulled pork with steak fries, coleslaw and pork and beans. Do not order this. The steak fries were good and so was the BBQ sauce...that was about it. Nick could not tell looks wise nor taste the difference between the brisket and the pulled pork, neither could I. The beans and coleslaw were a serving size of two bites each; I wish I was joking on that. We dinned there for a total of 62$ before tip. I was not happy at all with the price of the food or the quality, taste or size. read more

Normally, I try to avoid hotel anything establishments, however, being Mother's Day following the Kentucky Derby our options were low. Service was slow. We asked for items numerous times, and food was very ok. We ordered: The fried green tomato sandwich: the best of what we ordered Avocado Toast: legit slices of avocado on toast - that's it. Egg white omelet: huge portion, but bland. French Toast: nothing special, just toast with some berries A friend ordered Sierra Nevada and was brought the wrong beer. If you couldn't tell by the color, you could definitely tell by the flavor it was the wrong beer. We then learned it was one of their summer beers, but was never told prior, only after we asked our server to double check. For the price, quality of food and service, there is MUCH better brunch spots in Louisville. read more

I was visiting and staying downtown on 4th. Decided to go for a walk and found this place. They have a large selection of bourbon and are on the Urban Bourbon trail. I was in need of more stamps so I ordered the Bourbon Berry cocktail. It was refreshing and the bourbon wasn't overwhelming. My only complaint is that while the fresh strawberries were delicious, they were a bit thick. Honestly, that's my own fault for overlooking that part when I ordered but like I said the drink was tasty enough that it wasn't a big deal...just a preference. The staff here is super friendly so if you are in need of a drink or another stamp on your Urban Bourbon Trail passport, give it a go. read more

Sway is the truth. The signature Southern Fried Chicken is a revelation. Perfectly brined, seasoned and fried, I could not stop eating it. Substitute the mashed potatoes with the Mac and Cheese which sports smokey bacon and just enough smoked gouda to make a fabulous flavor. The collard greens didn't blow my socks off but I can forgive the lack of imagination, or the missing smoked meat for flavor. From the look of it, there are other menu items worth coming back to try - - the pork belly main course and the Southern Burger with a fried egg and pork belly are just a couple that caught my eye. Went here for lunch week and it was a great choice! The meal started off with mini corn muffins and biscuits as we looked over the menu--definitely tastier than the traditional bread served at restaurants. I then ordered the citrus and berry salad followed by the farmer's pick grits entree. I love fruit and nuts in my salad, so it was perfect for me! The put the dressing on the side as well, so you don't have to worry about it being drenched with extra calories if you don't want. The grits were delicious! They came with tons of vegetables and and mushrooms, and mixed together it felt like a healthy and hearty meal! Loved it! In addition to the food, the I loved sway because the service was amazing! This was one of the worst places I have ever been to. The manager & hostess informed us the kitchen was closed. Ok, it stunk, but it was right around 10pm, so we were ok with that. We then decided to have a drink, which I was completely ignored at the bar. My wife then went up and finally got served and was getting dirty looks from the manager. We also received several dirty looks from him throughout our time there. I love this place. The perfect setting for a quiet lunch. Nothing close to me was open on Monday! I was disappointed, so I figured a hotel lunch was where it's at. I ordered the fried chicken plate and the fries were delectable. The thing about it is, the salad I wanted was given to me in a large portion but since I ate it all, I couldn't really argue that I wanted the smaller portion, so.... lol. The arugula salad with shrimp is the one you need to come here and get. What did they do to the shrimp?! It was insanely good!! I think they seasoned it with cracked peppercorn and butter and a dash of cayenne- I could see the cayenne and detected a hint of a taste of it, but not too much. I liked it so much. They also had really good sweet tea, and the fried chicken plate was too much. I only ate half. While I was waiting, the server also gave me some breakfast leftovers which were the biscuits, and bread, I ate that too. I was full! read more

I'm giving this five stars for a stellar experience. The food was served buffet style, which is never the best food a restaurant can put out due to the fact that many people must be satisfied, and majority rules...meaning that the food is usually not very exciting, and often served in trough-like hotel pans that sit out until the heard has subsided. Not so at Sway. The food was varied, served in small, often replaced vessels, with many vegetarian and vegan options. The meat was there, I believe that in addition to salmon with and orange bourbon glaze they also offered turkey three ways (roasted, smoked and fried) as well as roast beef...there was probably a dead pig somewhere too. I especially enjoyed the butternut squash soup that was positioned next to the turkey gravy, a smart suggestion for veggie people to use it over the wonderful apple/Walnut stuffing and corn stuffing....Soo good. Red and golden beets were nice, the broccoli salad was meh, and the place was clean. My take away was that this restaurant must SHINE when it's not buffet day on Thanksgiving. Service was pleasant, place is beautiful, and food was cared for. I am giving 5 stars because in the scenario I experienced it in, they shined. Would never have thought about eating here, particularly because it is located inside of a hotel, but fortunately for me, I just happened to be staying at the Hyatt while traveling. The breakfast buffet was amazing and the staff were more than hospitable. I am not a fan of buffets, ever, buuuuuut I may just have to eat my own words, as soon I finish my breakfast. All-American breakfast menu which included scrambled eggs, eggs frittata, bacon, sausage, chorizo, American potatoes, biscuits and gravy, assorted fresh fruits, pastries, jams & jellies and even something for the health-nuts, a bowl of twigs. And if that is not enough, waffles, pancakes and French toast made-to-order! One last thing worth mentioning, you'll never find your glass empty. This restaurant is a hidden gem. My family and I attended a wedding in Kentucky in September. We had heard great things about the restaurant and wanted to try the fried chicken before leaving. We ended up going after the lunch run and getting the fried chicken ordered on the bar side of the restaurant. The service was quick. The food was AMAZING! I ordered extra gravy with mine and ended up making chicken and mashed potato sliders from the AMAZING homemade biscuits they served. My kids order the baked chicken which was very flavorful. One disappointment was the mac and cheese. It just wasn't good. We didn't care thought because everything else was so stellar. We loved it so much we went back the next morning for a buffet breakfast before heading north. The staff was sooooo welcoming! The food was fresh. They had the most wonderful chicken sausage and more biscuits and gravy! I love this restaurant. We liked it so much that we'll probably stay at the Hyatt it's located in next time we visit Kentucky. read more

Oh my gosh! Yes, for excellent tasting food. Went to Sway for dinner this evening. Brian, a bartender, was our server. He was very good about making suggestions & very attentive. We started out with 2 baby corn muffins, 2 small biscuits & honey butter. They were the perfect size (for not filling up on bread before the meal comes) & moist, not dry at all. The honey butter was delicious. Mike ordered the Southern Fried Chicken with creamy mashed potatoes, collard greens, & "chicken" gravy. There was enough for 2 to share. Two huge breasts, a leg, & a wing. It was crispy & piping hot. The mashed potatoes were creamy & the gravy was perfect with them. The greens were seasoned perfectly. I ordered the Farmer's Pick with Shrimp. It was a huge serving of roasted/sautéed vegetables with shrimp & magnificent grits. It was also large enough for 2 to share. If we had only known. Fortunately, we will be eating Sway again tomorrow. : ) Definitely recommend, two thumbs up. read more

Sway is a fantastic option for lunch or dinner, as long as you have the time. The service is not always quick, and at times is excessively slow. One major reason that I still go is their chicken. Whether you decide on the fried chicken dinner or the chicken sandwich, it is impressively good! Don't miss out on the mashed potatoes-they're also phenomenal. The atmosphere is very cool. They have bourbon barrels out as decoration, as well as older wood planks on the walls, transporting you to a cozy, vintage Kentucky restaurant. A long time ago in a land far away, a boy and a girl came here for a second date. This restaurant was easily the best part of that awkward (and dare I say almost lousy) day. Over a year and a half later with the same wonderful man, it's safe to say on my end I owe this place a lot more than I realized. There is a bar entrance and a restaurant entrance if you walk a bit further. While I've never drank here, it's always been busy when I've stopped by and it looks like a good time. But, I come for the food. Seriously, though, we've always had exceptional service when we've dined. Generous, intuitive, and charismatic waitstaff. I have never had an encounter with the staff that was less than fabulous. While they give you plenty of space and avoid hovering, they're incredibly knowledgeable on the menu and are as attentive as possible. Last we were here, we were even given some extra goodies when we left. Food is surprisingly good for the location as well. I typically avoid 4th Street, because I think it's overhyped, but I continue to visit for this place. You can't go wrong on the menu. Be sure to try some fried green tomatoes. Biscuits, corn bread, and a delicious honey butter are given before the meal. Shrimp and grits is a personal favorite. Fried chicken is always good, too. The vegetable sides and the salad options are always a stand out for me. If you're downtown, I'd recommend giving this place a try for lunch or dinner. You won't be disappointed. read more

It was the last night of our vacation looking for some Southern Comfort. it is a typical hotel restaurant. First they did not have the Bourbon my husband wanted. Then they did not have the wine I ordered, but ok.....then I ordered the Cavetelli. C-A-V-A-T-E-L-L-I, they brought me Snapper....S-N-A-P-P-E-R... then the waitress tried to convince me I ordered the snapper...does not even sound closely related. she did offer to buy me dessert or make another dinner but the magic was gone....just ok..I would go to something flashey on 4th street like Fridays. read more

Had an impromptu lunch with an out of town friend today. Service was excellent. Seating could not have been better. We sat on the railing which put us in the restaurant but we could touch the outside and the weather was perfect. It was such a pleasant dining experience. My friend and I split the chicken tenders which came with sweet potato fries and cole slaw . We had 2 huge tenders left over for a go box. The fries were maybe the best I have ever eaten and a large quantity. Neither of us cared for the slaw, It was too bitter for us. Mt husband ordered the fried chicken, a speciality. A wing and a breast with a huge helping of mashed potatoes and collard greens. It was all excellent. We had to wait about 20 minutes for them to fry chicken but it was worth the wait. There is street and garage parking both of which you have to pay for. We also had a bourbon pound cake for dessert. It was dry and I was not impressed. Overall I highly recommend. read more
