Was nervous coming in since I know Valentine's Day is probably one of the busiest days for florists and I didn't know if they'd have preset arrangements or if I'd be able to get a custom one. I called around 8:43am today on my way to work. The business hours are supposed to start at 9:00am, but on the voicemail Albert said that he was going to be late because of an appointment...which was totally fine with me. I ended up leaving a voicemail for delivery and left a description of the recipient (my coworker), my size and price preference, and my work address and phone number. I received a phone call from Albert at 9:50am and he got more detail from me and said that he was going to work on the arrangement and would drop it off by 11:45am. He asked for a message to write on the card and I had him write a general birthday greeting and then added "We are so glad that you are a part of our team!" Albert said that sounded perfect and was definitely going to make her happy! Throughout the entire conversation, Albert was very positive and uplifting and it sounded like he truly loved what he was doing! My coworkers and I went about the day and around 10:30am (40 mins after our call) the most beautiful arrangement walked in!!! There's only one other florist listed in Carmel Valley, and my experience in that shop was the complete opposite of my experience with Albert & Sweet Floral. Lucky for me, Albert promised a double orchid lei for me to present to my son for his high school graduation. When I asked for a balloon, he suggested a different type of mylar balloon - and thanks to Albert - my son knew EXACTLY where we were sitting in the stands because we were the one family with a simple yellow smiley-faced balloon. Score! Not only did Albert have my order picked up fresh and ready to go by the time I arrived, but he even had an extra Happy Graduation" balloon blown up, too - as if he knew I'd be asking for one so that I could tie it to the sign we put up in the front yard. Albert is so entertaining, easy to talk to with downright good business sense. He's funny and intuitive, and a breath of fresh air. Albert should double up and go into the candy business because he is the sweetest. The name of his floral shop is not a coincidence, I assure you. I sent a friend of mine a succulent from Sweet Floral as a thank you/congrats. Albert is the one who answered the phone and helped guide me through the process. It wasn't exactly the questions that he asked that won me over, it was his enthusiastic tone and genuine excitement that was so memorable... Me: "Yes, I'd like to order a succulent for delivery. Do you happen to have any available?" Him: "Oh yes, yes we do. I have just the perfect thing for your friend. She is going to love it..." And he went on to describe in detail a plant, the mosaic planter it came in, as well as a bloom that was also coming out of the arrangement. I was sold even before Albert offered the same day delivery. That was the cherry on top of the service sundae. True to his word, the succulent arrived later that afternoon (he even called my friend to let her know it was left on her front porch) and it was properly posted in IG. I have had the extreme pleasure of knowing Al Sweet of Sweet Floral for several year.s My friendship with Al started with my daily walks in Sorrento Valley as a mid day get away from my desk. Often Al and I would visit for 10-15 min before I would continue on with my walk. Several times I had occasion to order flowers for our clients and of course I would always use Al. All I had to do is give him a call with all the info and our clients would call us with raves. Since our business was also client cultivation and retention oriented Al's service only served to put us over the top with our clients. I moved to Texas three years ago and have not had occasion to use Al's services, but I have thought of him often, especially in the spring when the lilacs bloom as that is my favorite flower and Al was always my source for Lilacs. I had the pleasure of dropping in on him today while I am visiting family in San Diego and he greeted me like an old friend with hugs and kisses. He takes such pleasure in his work that it hardly seems like work and he love every minute of it. Like Maya Angelou said: I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. Al makes you feel special and like your business is the only important business he has. There is something physical that happens in your body and to your mood when you look at beautiful flowers, there is just no therapy that make you feel so good. Used my trusty Yelp App to locate this nice flower shop near my wife's work to surprise her with some flowers for our 6 year anniversary. The lady I talked to on the phone(I think her name was Judy) helped me out while I was on my way from Point Loma to Sorrento Valley to pick out the flowers. I got there and not only did she pull out all the flowers we had talked about on the phone, but she made it so easy for me to decide on what I wanted. In and out within probably 10 minutes or less! The most important part of this story was the expression on my wife's face along with her doctors and coworkers on the arrangement when I brought it to her work. That sells this place all by itself!
