My family in LA ordered me a birthday cake from Sweet Laurel Bakery to celebrate my 30th. They thought that I was still gluten-free. I so appreciated the thoughtful and loving gestures. I've always wanted to try the baked goods from this shop because the store looked so cute and pink, just like my personality! I was surprised when I noticed that the cake didn't have frosting. Shop is incredibly cute and staff is super kind! Love the whole vibe of the shop. But...the goods are not very good. I was so sad that I didn't like any of the three items I tried. Their items are grain-free, sugar-free and dairy-free which was very exciting. But unfortunately the flavor was not good in anything I tried. I originally placed and paid for my order three months before my wedding to specifically accommodate guests with dietary restrictions, gluten sensitivities, and autoimmune diseases. I am beyond disappointed at the lack of costumer care and communication, given it was cancelled under a month before the order was scheduled for pickup. This is extremely frustrating given that my wedding is just after the new year and it will be especially hard for me to find another bakery to accommodate my guests needs after the holidays. Sweet Laurel did offer a refund, but that's hardly a favor, given the timing. My favorite bakery! I have a lot of dietary restrictions and usually avoid dairy, rice and gluten. I was so excited when I discovered a grain-free, dairy-free bakery with the cutest vibe It's also close to a lot of great hikes too! I usually park in the parking garage, and stay for an hour or two. Parking is around $2/hour I believe. On Sundays, there's the farmers market just around the corner too! Let's talk desserts! My favorite is the chocolate caramel cake then the carrot cake. Also love their chocolate chip cookies and ice cream sandwiches. I'm usually a blueberry muffin girl but their lemon poppyseed is actually my go-to. Their mini cupcakes are also yummy. This place is adorable! They have the cutest mini fairy cupcakes that are perfect for a quick dessert stop with the kids. Their bakery items are "organic, grain-free, dairy-free, and refined sugar-free" per their website. Because of the grain-free aspect, their cakes and muffins are not quite what you might expect due to coconut and almond flour content. I happen to like the coconut/almond texture so I love it! They have also published two gorgeous coffee-table-perfect cook books, available for purchase at the store and online (which I'm really tempted to buy for myself this coming holiday season). If you're lucky you might come across their ready-to-bake chocolate chip cookie dough at the nearby Whole Foods. I was in the area and was craving some cake. We did a quick Yelp search and found Sweet Laurel Bakery with yummy looking pictures and decided to stop by. We went NOT knowing about the paleo, vegan, keto options and only found out after we ate our cakes. Overall, I think this bakery has an awesome mission and for what these baked goods were, they were really good. I don't have dietary restrictions and usually avoid places like this because I want my dairy and sugar. I took a bite of the two cakes we got (vanilla coconut jam and chocolate caramel) and immediately knew it wasn't a "regular" cake. The texture was slightly different - it was more porous and had coconut shreds in everything, even the chocolate cake. I'm not a fan of coconut (my partner is), so that was slightly off putting to me. Despite this, this was definitely the best paleo/vegan cake I've ever had. Other than the coconut and different texture, these cakes were bomb! I LOVED how the sweetness was perfectly balanced - nothing was overly sweet. After eating my slice, I didn't feel heavy or weighed down, just satisfied. If you have any dietary restrictions or are on a healthier diet but wanting some baked goods, I highly recommend this place. Parking is metered nearby (where I parked), and I believe there's a parking lot in the back as well. They also have other coffee drinks and a patio outside where you can sit and enjoy your coffee and cakes. read more

Love the idea of this spot and I'm sure it's products are a nice treat for many people who don't get to enjoy baked goods very often due to dietary restrictions/allergies. However, I went to their pop-up in Century City and got some cookies. They were rough. Not sure you could even call them cookies other than the shape. Consistency was similar to wet sand? Flavor wasn't far off from that either, to be honest. The pies looked tastier, but I just wanted a quick sweet treat. My advice is that if you're expecting a regular cookie made "healthier," then you're going to be disappointed. A dream come true As a girl with a ton of food allergies and intolerances, cake is something hard for me to come by. I have the Sweet Laurel cookbook and has always wanted to come try it in person, when my best friend decided we would go for my birthday. It was SO good. I have a nut allergy so that really narrowed down my options- then I could only have the coconut flour options. Which were still delicious! I got the coconut jam cake and a coffee cake muffin. The jam cake was so good and moist. The jam was fresh and really made the cake! I wish the prices were a little more reasonable, as $10 for a slice of cake is a bit much, but I do understand it can be difficult to bake such unique cakes. So Moist, So crumbly! This place is unique, delicious, and elegant! We usually grab a cake for a special occasion. Most recently, I ordered a mocha cake for mother's day, and it was delectable. The mocha flavor was deep and the ganache complemented it very well. I appreciated that it wasn't too sweet. While we were there, we also grabbed some pastries. I had the lemon poppyseed muffin and a brownie. Let me tell you, they were so incredibly moist and crumbly. The muffin's texture was as perfect as it could possibly be. Sweet laurel bakery is a sugar free and grain free bakery. Some of their stuff is really great, and you wouldn't be able to tell that it's healthy, and some other stuff you can taste the texture difference, but taste is never compromised. I tried their vanilla coconut jam cake which did have a gritty texture from the coconut but it was delicious! I also got to take a few bites of their chocolate caramel cake from my sister in law which didn't disappoint either. We wanted to try a few other things but they were sold out of their turmeric bread. I also tried their turmeric chai latte which was very watery and tasted more like a tea with lots of foam on top. The place was a lot smaller than I imagined but very cute and decorated with vintage tea cups and flowery designs everywhere. Those who are health conscious need to make a stop here! Such a cute bakery by the beach! Blush pink color, floral decor, and very inviting but unfortunately the flavor of these gluten free goods aren't that great. Very bland and cardboard-tasting. All dense and no fluff. I got the chocolate chip ice cream sandwich but the vanilla was a brown color and was very bitter kind of sour tasting maybe it was expired I don't know? It was good but a bit crunchy, overall we wouldn't recommend it. We ordered chocolate chip cookies in advance for pick-up today on our way out of town. Everyone is always raving about them on Instagram. We purchased one dozen. Huge disappointment. They look nothing like the chocolate chip cookies posted on Instagram (see attached photo and compare for yourself). They were flat, undercooked, and over salted. I ABOSULUTELY LOVED their vegan chocolate chip cookie! The bakery is a cute cozy space and it's good that there is a parking structure since parking is awful in the area. My one critique about the parking which I know the bakery may not control is that the first hour is $2, but if you don't spend an hour, you shouldn't have to pay and/or the bakery should validate per purchase. Just my opinion, now back to the review. I love the fact that the ingredients used are clean, dairy free, and vegan friendly! It's hard to find healthy desserts in addition to them being vegan so thank you! Make sure to ask which products are vegan since not everything is. I thought the pricing was fair for the bakery items I purchased (vegan cookie). My other critique would be not qualifying for free shipping at all when you order on nationwide on their website. I think orders over $30 should qualify for free shipping, and maybe the company will rethink this as they continue expanding and growing. A gem of a place in California! As a vegan who likes eating low-sugar desserts, it's challenging to find a low-sugar bakery that's vegan friendly OR a vegan bakery that offers low-sugar options (sorry, agave and coconut sugar don't count). I heard about Sweet Laurel for quite some time and decided to check it out on my birthday yesterday. It didn't disappoint! There are several options: two vegan cookies and two vegan cakes when I was there. The woman at the cashier (her name is Lila) was so kind and accommodating to questions I had about how the vegan desserts were made! I got the keto cake and a snickerdoodle (thank you so so much to Lila for adding an extra bag of the delicious cookies!)! I will say this...don't expect Mrs. Fields quality where everything tastes like there's mountains of gluten and sugar in them, but they're great if you want a treat without the sugar rush or overbearing sweetness. read more

I ordered the lemon coconut cake and my friend ordered a blueberry muffin. While both looked scrumptious and had robust textures, the flavor fell flat and we tasted hardly any coconut, lemon, or blueberry (they weren't sweet either). Let's be straight & honest, I came here for photos only. I pretended to know what is GF then asked for any cake that looks good on picture plus a red color tea to go with it. Huge THANKS to the Sweet Laurel team (10/21). My girlfriend and I are constantly traveling to try different coffee shops anywhere from L.A. to the O.C. Todays drive to the bakery was a little hefty. It took about 2 1/2 hours to get here, but it was honestly worth it. Love this place. The treats are unreal! Everything is delicious and healthy especially for those with limited diets. My only issue is that almost everything has eggs. If you have an autoimmune disease and have done the cross reactive / allergy blood test you will find that egg whites especially really trigger most people with autoimmunity's immune system. I used to eat eggs and it changed my life once I stopped. I wish there were more options without eggs.
