That being said, I've been on a trip for an authentic French baguette since my trip to Paris a couple of years ago. I think I've finally found it! A traditional authentic French baguette is made with a poolish, but many bakeries around LA use a levain in their baguettes. While baguettes made with levains yield a delicious sourdough flavor, but a baguette made with poolish produces a sweet, complex yet simple, nutty flavor. It's sooo good! My only wish is a more crusty outer layer, but nothing a toaster can't fix! I also picked up a kouign-amann and pecan cookie. Both were very yummy! You know what else is great? The prices! my baguette, cookie, and pastry was $13 including a 18% tip. Honestly, something like that would cost closer to $20 at other bakeries. Overall, this place is worth a visit! Check it out.

The only comparable bread in the neighborhood would be from Lodge Bread but their loaves are too pricey to buy regularly. I love Larder Bakery's naturally fermented sourdough batard which can be found at Tender Greens and Dune Coffee. They also make a different sourdough bread with a wetter dough that's available at Verve Coffee. As far as I know, none of these shops sell whole loaves though, instead the bread is incorporated into their different menu items. Larder breads have a real crust, are usually sliced thick, and have holes inside, and I love that their ingredients are stripped down to the basics and vegan (i.e. 30 year old starter made from grapes). You can also find delicious pastries made by Larder at the above coffee shops. The cinnamon roll knot is divine!

I stood at the door waving as he ignored me and then when he could no longer ignore my presence he finally acknowledged me, by shewing me away with a flap of his hand. Maybe they forgot why they opened this place. but it no longer feels like a place from the heart.
