This place has good indoor seating and out door seating. But can fill up easily, they do table service if your ordering cakes. I went in one late night and all the indoor seating was full, so we sat outside. The pear tart and hazelnut chocolate cookies were pretty good. Their selection is hit of miss some times. I've been in there when they have a full array of cookies and pastries and other times when they have half of their usual selection. Staff is generally friendly but not overly. Pretty disappointed with the mocha torte that I ordered for my parents 30th wedding anniversary. For $36 I was expecting some of the most delish cake I've ever had but was quite the opposite. The cake tasted freezer burnt and was so dry. I really feel like it was made weeks ago and put in the freezer. I would have given them one star but they earned an extra star for customer service. I emailed the pastry chef to complain and he was genuinely remorseful and offered me a refund via a gift card. Not the best as I would have preferred a cash refund but I'll take it. The ratio of cake to crumble is awesome and the service is so wonderful - I called with such short notice and they were able to put aside a cake for me. Sweet Obsession is one of our favourite dessert spots in the city. We've been here a couple of times and have tried the chocolate ganache, the passionfruit flan, the lemon orange flan with blueberry, and the black and white mousse. The passionfruit flan is our favourite by far, a must try! For drinks, the americano is pretty standard, and the hot chocolate is on the sweeter side, but not bad. After all these great reviews in mind, a friend and I headed to Sweet Obsession with high expectations. However, both of us were sorely disappointed. :-( Still frowning, thinking about the experience. Nothing wrong with the service or anything. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things. My friend got the mango cheesecake, and I got the hedgehog cake. The mango cheesecake was alright, but totally not the best cheesecake we had. And after the first few bites, it was like we were just eating it to finish it. Not because we wanted to savour every bite. That's sad when a dessert makes you feel that way. The Hedgehog Cake or hazelnut cake (because I don't recall any chocolate in it really) was... kind of disappointing. I like my cakes to be moist and mesh well with the frosting. The frosting itself was good because it wasn't too sweet. But the spongecake was kind of dry. Well I wish they used normal cake instead of spongecake. And in between the first and second layer they had crushed hazelnuts which totally disjointed the cake. With this one, I didn't even want to finish it. I can't believe I actually didn't finish my dessert! I never do that!! I've gotten more satisfaction from an $8.99 1/4 sheet slab of tuxedo cake or chocolate truffle cake from Save-On foods. So maybe we got the wrong things. Perhaps we should have stuck with the mousse cakes. Would I go back? Probably wouldn't go out of my way to go here as I did today. But if it happens to be in the vicinity and i'm looking for a dessert place.... actually not even then because Sweet Revenge is not too far away. Even though the place is filled with a huge variety of rich and delicious desserts, I actually come for a cuppa and the scones. They have a maple and pecan scone which is definitely one of my favourite sweet obsessions at Sweet Obsessions. What is so nice about this place is that they aren't just about the cakes and mousses, they have a reasonable selection of soup, sandwiches, croissant, muffins and scones as well, so if you are meeting a friend, there really is something to please everyone. They had an awesome clerk named Doris who worked there for a long time before she retired last year. She was a throwback to an era gone by, would call you "sweetie" or "hun" and was always blunt about what was or was not good that day. I'm surprised that more Yelpers don't comment on the bad service here. Maybe it's me, but every time I come here, we always get lackluster service. It takes them a while to acknowledge us and to take our orders. Twice now they've gotten our orders wrong. The shop gets packed and the servers seem to resent how busy it is. Came here a few years ago when they first opened and it was a great experience. Now I feel the quality isn't the same. Was here on a Saturday night about two weeks ago in the late evening. It was quite busy but we managed to get a table. We had the chocolate ganache cake and triple chocolate mouse. The cake was dry and stale. Could be that the fridge was turned high due to the hot weather. What was really disappointing was the grab and go feel. Cafes are supposed to be relaxing. However we felt very rushed due to individuals waiting for a table and the servers coming back every few minutes. My suggestion is to check on the state of the deserts in the fridge and decide if this is a relaxing sit down place desert place or order and seat yourself place. This place is my go-to for desserts. My favourite cakes here are the lime raspberry flan and tiramisu. The lime raspberry is quite a refreshing flan. It is more on the sour side than the sweet side however, and may not suit everyone's taste buds. The tiramisu is more suited for the sweet tooth. It is covered with chocolate shredded pieces, topped with coffee beans. It has the perfect amount of cream and bread inside the cake. I recommend this to everyone that comes here (unless of course you're allergic to anything in the cake). This is a great place to hangout with friends and enjoy a cup of espresso with cake. read more

My boyfriend took me out for dessert as part of our anniversary celebrations. The decor was perfect as a dessert place. And the selection was incredible. It took me awhile to decide on which dessert I wanted to try. Everything looked good and I'm a picky sweets kinda girl. I don't like things that are too sweet or rich. Everything in the case looked so yummy. My boy chose the St. Honore (puff pastry with vanilla pastry cream and chocolate mousse drizzled with dark chocolate). I had a slice of Chocolate Hazelnut Zuccotto (chocolate ganache dome with chocolate chiffon, chocolate mousse and hazelnut mousse). We also ordered a decaf coffee and an Americano. Since it was a nice, warm evening, we sat outside. Our desserts were delicious and the coffees were perfect. The flavours were balanced and perfect sweetness. The chocolate had the perfect richness to it. We had such a great time and will definitely be coming back to try out all the other choices. Visited with friends -- great find! Located in a quiet neighborhood, it's a small shop with small tables inside and a couple tables outside. It can be a little cramped. The display case is packed with all types of pastries, cakes, and cookies. Have a seat and they'll bring you menus and bring the deliciousness to you. We had the dulce de leche cake and chocolate decadence (i.e. a slab of truffle). Both were very good. Coffees and london fog were good too. Will be back to try more desserts soon! read more

For anyone who has a sweet tooth, Sweet Obsession is the perfect place to indulge yourself. Walking in, it seems like just quaint coffee shop with its chalkboard menu and natural lighting. However, once you look to your right you'll see a glass case loaded with what I can only describe as pure magic. Here are my thoughts on the desserts I've tried: Chocolate Ganache. The one I tried a few weeks back was their Chocolate Ganache which has so many layers you'll lose count. It's incredibly rich and luscious and your mouth is just enveloped in chocolaty goodness. I felt like Augustus Gloop when he fell into Wonka's chocolate river. Between the soft spongy chocolate chiffon, the silky smooth ganache and the slight bitterness from the rum it's as if you were given a taste of both heaven and hell. So good yet it feels almost sinful to be eating such a devilish creation. Triple Chocolate Mousse. One of those desserts that I've never been able to perfect is a layered mousse cake. Looking at it you'd think it would be incredibly light and airy but their mousse cake was actually quite dense and rich. It is 3 layers of chocolate - dark, mocha and white - on a base of chocolate chiffon. Not only is the presentation of this dessert enticing, but once you get a bite of it you're not going to want to stop. It comes as no surprise that this is one of my favorite dessert places in Vancouver. Although it's kind of a hidden gem (a few blocks down from West Broadway) it's well worth the trip. Well this city is lined with come of the best pastry places on the West Coast in my opinion! And in all honest Sweet Obsession Cakes and Pastries is one of those well kept secrets... well until you stumble on it with Yelp. I have been coming here for a few years now when I'm in the mood of some comfort food chocolate cake or the French style pastries that seem to have been successfully translated from my memories romping around Paris with a 70L backpack gawking at the Arc de Triumph. If you are definitely looking for one of those places that is open early to late I would suggest a visit here... I do recommend that you try their Triple Chocolate Mousse with a cup of their Pear Tea or the Almond Croissant with a Cappuccino with a hint of cinnamon ;) Though it can be really busy on the weekends but usually the weeknights early mornings are great. I've been here twice so far and my boyfriend always gets the Banana Crêpe and he loves it. I recommend the Dulce de Leche. Last week when we went, I got terrible customer service. I'm pretty indecisive and they kept pushing me to order and brushed off my questions, even though there was more than 2 hours left before closing. It basically ruined my whole night and experience. The desserts are without a doubt overpriced. Your money would be better off at another dessert place since the portions are not worth what you pay for and can be terribly cut. The quality and deliciousness depends on your own taste and preference. It's one place where you can indulge but lacks consistency, you'd think they'd be more professional. Aggh Sweet Obsession cakes, get in my belleh! Seriously, I walked into this place the first time, looked at the display shelf and thought, no joke, "This looks doable." Had I been forced (hah) to tackle the whole thing, I feel fairly confident that there would have been no survivors. As it was though, I hadn't the money to put my plan into action, and so decided to opt for what sounded best to me - The Peanut Butter Mousse. As I went to the counter to ring it up, the guy says, "Do you like chocolate truffles?" UM YEAH I DO! So I got a free one of those which was a lovely bonus. Went home...nommed down truffle and peanut butter mousse, and I am not ashamed to tell you, licked the remnants off the serving paper. It's that good. Sweet Obsessions has been one of my biggest obsessions ever since the 90's. They use only the best ingredients including New Zealand butter, fresh cream, fruits and high quality chocolate. Have never been disappointed. My favorites are: Passion Fruit Flan, Chocolate Concorde, Lime Raspberry Flan, Lemon Dacquioise, Lemon Mousse Cake and the Napolean Cake. All amazing and worth the trip each on their own. I have also had numerous cappuccinos there when I dropped in to take out pastries. Overall their cappuccino is ok but not in the same league as 49th Parallel, JJ Bean or some of the boutique small coffee house players that keep popping up. I go there for the dessert not the coffee but it is fairly good. They also serve teas to go with the desserts and have sandwiches and salads for lunch. Their cookies and Christmas baking are also amazing. I used to buy baskets of Christmas goodies for clients. Overall if you get obsessed with Sweet Obsessions you may grow in girth but you will be happy with your obsession and likely go back again as soon as you can. read more

Yes! A cherry Danish that is so luxe that a knife and fork are required to eat it. Bring it on! The cherries are perfectly tart, the pastry perfectly buttery, and the coffee hot and smooth. A generous mound of cherries sits atop a hand crafted danish, a tall one, not the flaccid figure 8 that can be purchased at the big super market. A wide selection of hot and cold beverages, lovely light lunch items, and dozens of spectacular cakes are available for those who wish other delicacies. After indulging, walk around the neighbourhood; there are some wonderful gardens and beautiful older homes close by. With indoor and patio seating, and located just one block east of the 22 McDonald bus stop, Sweet Obsession is easily reached from downtown or across town. If you love sweets, treats, but especially cakes, you must visit here! Their selection of cakes is so vast, you'll have trouble deciding what to try. Not a fan of cakes, they offer cookies, tarts, pies, cheesecakes, sandwiches and soups as well complete with coffee and tea. I love that you can eat at this shop. If you are planning on staying to savour your dessert, I recommend you look at the display case first to decide what you want to eat (the menu has no pictures) and then snag a seat because you only order at the counter for take-out. The service was pretty good. Once they take your order and bring you your food, I find it hard to flag someone down, unless they are coming to clear off your already empty plate. Last time I went, my husband and I found the cakes good, but very rich. I'm glad the slices are small because you really can't eat much more than that. We ordered decaf coffee to accompany our desserts and oooh boy was it strong. Good but strong. I like that you can buy full-size cakes. I have been a customer here for years. I usually come for their excellent selection of cakes that are ready to go. I have tried the lemon cheesecake, fruit tarts, plain cheesecake and the Neopolitan cake. All cakes were outstanding. If you are invited to dinner and want to bring dessert this is the place to go. Today I was doing errands and I stopped for a snack for my son and coffee for me. We tried a Cloud Cookie, and a chocolate dipped shortbread with my latte. I ended up with the Chocolate Marble Cheesecake to go & it definitely satisfied my sweet tooth. Chocolate was rich (not in a icky sweet way), sort of reminded me of dark chocolate which happens to be my favorite :D. I wish it was more marble-y inside cause almost the whole slice of cake was chocolate. Pretty yummy and a delectable selection of pastries, cakes, cookies, bread, buns, you name it. The price makes me a little squeamish, but what can you do? It's an artisinal bakery with yummy pastries and such. We shared the little apricot tart and it was not too sweet, which is a nice contrast when you're having a cuppa joe with it as well. I have loved this place for years, however, I am extremely disappointed to find out that the Cherry Danish is discontinued. The ladies at the counter didn't have much of an answer except that it wasn't very popular, but I throughly disagree. Every time I went to Sweet Obsession, it was either sold out or soon to be. It was the best in the city and I hope they bring it back!! Losing business here. So disheartening. There are other yummy menu options that deserve a high score but I rated it only a two instead of a four or five because my favourite item is off the menu. The guy with the accent sure is a ball of joy. I was going to a party and came here looking for a variety of desserts. I know with a lot of other dessert places depending on the flavour, some of the cakes will vary in sweetness. So, I asked the guy who was helping me which of the cakes aren't as sweet. He replied, "All of our cakes are sweet. If they weren't, we wouldn't have named our store sweet obsession." Aww gee, why didn't I think of that? I shared a piece of both bittersweet chocolate and ganache cake last night and the both combined made a fabulous cake but on their own, they could use a couple of tweaks. The bittersweet chocolate cake had deliciously moist and rich cake but the frosting was too buttery and a little bland. The chocolate ganache cake had fabulously delicious ganache and while the cake was moist, it lacked any sort of flavour. Slices are an appropriate size though and perfect for sharing if you want to try multiple treats! read more

LOVE. I've lived and traveled in dozens of North American cities in search of the perfect cake bite, and Sweet Obsession stands out among hundreds of cake places I've sampled throughout the years. The hazelnut-chocolate zuccato is dreamy; the triple berry mousse, light as air; and the warm toffee cake is an affair to remember. We also took home a bag of biscotti - crunchy double-baked texture not too dry or crumbly, and lovely flavor combinations. My only very very minor qualm was with the Dulce de Leche cake - the leche was thick and creamy, but the cake was a smidge dry in contrast. Served warm I'm sure it would have been perfect. read more
