I'm glad Smokehouse Tailgate Grill exists! It's great to have a *real barbecue restaurant available! (By "real" I mean wood smoked as opposed to grilled and slathered in sauce like most "bbq" places). Westchester has a hard time keeping barbecue restaurants in business (Revenge, Whole Hog Cafe, Dickie's, etc) so I'm hoping to keep this one in business :) I'm in Riverdale and the closest thing we have to real barbecue is a local gastropub (BAH is great in a pinch), therefore I'm very happy that STG partnered with Toast to do deliveries. We've ordered a few times and aside from one bumpy experience we've been very happy with STG. The Brisket stands up to delivery and doesn't dry out, the pulled pork / ribs / pork belly are all winners, and the Chicken and the Chicken wings hold their own against the traditional stars of barbecue. Lastly their Cornbread isn't a dried out puck rather it's moist and fluffy. We're ordering about once a week at this point because it's so good. read more

I had heard about prime rib night and I had to try it! Well, I'm glad I did! We started off with a kale Caesar salad, which was a nice surprise. It came with the meal. it was cold and crisp and really flavorful. Loved it. The prime rib came out and it was served with a Demi glaze on top of wedge potatoes with a nice onion topper. It looked gorgeous and it tasted really good. It was tender, juicy, and exactly what I dreamed of. Our waitress was a doll, loved her! All in all it was the perfect dinner. read more

I went to Smokehouse on Thursday night at 6pm with 3 couples (6 adults). We were told by the hostess that they could not accommodate us because they did not have enough servers. Thursday night is typically a fairly busy night for restaurants in New Rochelle. Apparently Smokehouse is poorly managed. I will not be going back. read more

Back in town and was so happy to have smokehouse like the old days.... However I was shocked with how small the portions have gotten. The quesadilla was on the smaller tortilla size (won't order again) And they really skimped with the chicken tenders and fries! Was expecting a little more for the price? I stopped by this place to get a late Saturday lunch. It was pretty empty. It has a lot of seating and TVs. It would be great to watch games here. If I am in the area I probably would stop by to get a drink and watch a game. The best part of my visit was the margarita. I found the food to be extremely underwhelming. I got the loaded mac and cheese, which has brisket in it. I found the cheese sauce to be very cloying. The sauce was very sweet and it got thick really early into eating the meal. I didn't enjoy the brisket pieces at all. I think it would be a better composed meal to make the mac and cheese and then top it with slices of brisket and other toppings or garnishes. read more

Food is ok but don't leave anything behind especially sunglasses in your jacket pocket. we went for lunch and I mistakenly left my jacket. one of the staff went into my zipped up pocket and took my nice costa del Mar sunglasses with the case. I'm not usually a BBQ person, but I've enjoyed every visit here. A traditional southern BBQ place put a huge emphasis on the meat and not much else. The sides are often an afterthought and really heavy in addition to the fatty cuts of meats. So I guess what I like about Smokehouse is that they're not so traditional. In a recent visit we ordered the blistered shishito, pork belly burnt ends and jerk brisket tacos. Each of the dishes had fantastic condiments and sauces (ie pepper jellies and hot honey) that really elevate them, yum! read more

My friends and I had a great time on a weekend evening. There was a live guitarist too, which made it loud but played great music. The menus are large! There was a great hazy IPA as well as cocktails and tiki drinks. For food, I had a great crispy chicken sandwich. I got a bite of the brisket and pulled pork, which were also tasty. This spot is always packed and for good reason! Definitely a place for Iona students but others will enjoy it here as well. We came on a Friday and were told to either take the last high top right by the hostess stand or wait 25 minutes. We decided to take the high top. Since we had already scanned the menu before coming into the place, we knew what we wanted and our waiter had told us we were the easiest group he had all night. What a compliment! We ordered a chicken sandwich, chicken wings, and sides of mac and cheese. The short ribs-- half rack were delicious, well-seasoned, moist, and meaty and enough to take home leftovers. The only negative is that the place is pretty noisy due to the design of the building. Place has the best wings in all of New Rochelle potentially even all of Westchester. These wings are 10 times better than the Beechmont Tavern wings which are smothered in a simple barbecue sauce or whatever other sauce they use. The ambience here is very nice and I think they're really upgraded from their previous location they had across the street in Rochelle. There was something about the sauce on the ribs that tasted interesting to me, but I can't exactly put my finger on it. The sides were great... although I wish the Mac and cheese was more of a crisp oven bake. And if you like beans their beans were amazing! Heads up, big back food alert. This place gets three stars only because I have yet to experience their customer service in person. This order was a delivery. Also, if you are going to order delivery, don't order from Uber or other places. Order directly from the Smokehouse site itself because there were a lot of items that needed to be added. Now, to the food: My wife and I ordered three Brisket empanadas each, shrimp and grits with no peppers, fried chicken thighs, cornbread, Caesar salad, and the brisket melt. First, when you bite into all of it, I taste the seasonings. The Brisket Empanadas were on point, with the amount of fat and meat used. The onions and cheese added a lot of wow to them. This is a 5 out of 5. The shrimp and grits were also excellent. They were just like a down-South family would make them. They were creamy and delicious, and there was a good amount of shrimp in them. This is also 5 out of 5. The cornbread was cheesy and sweet. I am not really a fan of bread, but my wife loved it and said it was more of a dessert than anything else. She gives it a 4 out of 5. The Chicken Thighs were like, wow. I tasted the sweetness and spiciness of the chicken. I was still savoring one bite of it in my mouth, and my tongue and taste buds were doing the electric slides. This was a 10 out of 5. The chicken wasn't dry, but the chicken thighs were fried right. Our favorite server, Hector, makes us feel like we're visiting our favorite family members' house. My go-to drink is the Georgia Peach; my husband always orders a beer on tap. As I'm sitting inside smokehouse having just finished another great meal, I realized a review of this place was long overdue. I've been coming to both of this restaurant's locations for years and the food has always been consistently good. Their smoked wings are my usual order (SO good with the bama sauce), but their burger, pastrami bacon and brisket empanadas are also in rotation. My husband loves their hot honey chicken sandwich and is obsessed with their Mac and cheese. I think you'd have to try to have a bad meal here. Besides the food, the service and vibe of the restaurant are great. Casual and comfortable, with a solid playlist and plenty of TVs to watch your favorite team. The Location, ambience and staff are awesome! Top notch service, our waiter went out of his way to make us feel at home and appreciated! We went in for the first time to have some smoked brisket & Beef short ribs. But we're disappointed to learn Beef Short ribs are not on the menu. (We should of called in advance to inquire, I know) The pulled brisker empanada were amazing. We ordered the smoke platter for 2 and had to pay an additional $5 bucks for double Brisket (Don't eat Pork) which would be fine if the Brisket would have been edible. It was very dry and flavorless. So, I had to drop the rating a bit. Apparently, their service declines when they get busy. Hubby and I came her with our Little like we have a few times this year. Each time we came previously, we had a great meal. The service was excellent and the servers were always very friendly. This time, however, there was a stark difference and I'm guessing because it's football season, the service is beginning to become affected. Hubby and I are in a fantasy league and we were interested in visiting during a football Sunday so this all worked out. When we arrived, we asked a young man if we could sit anywhere. He said we had to wait for someone else. A tall blonde female server walked up and asked us how many. That's it. How many. No, "hello" , no, "sorry for the wait", like all business but not GOOD business. I told her three and she proceeded to walk us into their adjacent dining area. I asked to sit in the front dining area, with the booths. There was one table left and it's a lot easier to handle our toddler at one of those tables because it's too high for her to jump down from and run around, but it's also secure enough where we don't have to worry about her falling. Not to mention, we were also there to watch the games and those table have the best vantage point of all the TVs in the place, showing all the different games. The server told us they were expecting a large party. She seemed very flippant. She sat us at the other cocktail tables that have higher chairs, low enough where my kid could easily get up and move around (not good), yet moveable so there's more of a chance that she could also get hurt during one of her escapes. Shortly after us sitting, I noticed a two people sitting at the table we requested. No one else came to join their party. It was just two people the entire meal. Yes. The server lied. For what reason? I'm not sure, especially considering that a very large party of about 8-10 people arrived when we were just about finished, and sat down at the largest table setting, where we were seated. The server obviously did not want us sitting at that table and I look at the business differently as a result of that. The seating arrangement was not the worst part of our meal. The server basically disappeared. We say, I took my tot to the bathroom to wash hands and when we returned, she was taking our drink order. When she asked about food, I asked to give us a minute because I had just sat down from the bathroom and hadn't had a chance to check out the menu. She left to put on our drink orders. Hubby said he wanted an item from the brunch menu that had to be ordered before 3P and is was a quarter to. We had been waiting for the server to return for about ten minutes. Another, more pleasant server, came by and brought our drinks and I asked to odder our food. She seemed reluctant because maybe it wasn't her section, not sure, but she ended up taking the order. We ordered our kid's food (and appetizer) to come out with our food because we also ordered an app for the table. All of the food took a very long time to arrive to the table and when it did, it was brought by several other people, including what seemed to be a manager. We had their tailgate wings which are always good. Our daughters fried little thighs came out and were cold. You could tell they likely made it as an app and instead of bringing it to the table whe warm, they waited until the rest of our food was finished and brought it out late. It's cooked in oil so it got soggy but we didn't send it back for fear we would have to wait even longer. The kiddo didn't complain so we left it as is. Hubby had their brisket egg n cheese and liked it. I had their BBQ brisket bowl which was ok but a lot smaller than when I had it a cpl months ago and the market veg was cold. The manager brought our main foods over. I had to get up and go to the counter to request sauces and a plastic cup because they gave our 4 y/o a glass cup with orange juice. Our original server did stop by to give us the check and some Starburst candies, finally exhibiting some pleasantness. We packed up most of our food togo and left. It was not a good experience compared too the several other times we have visited. It was very disappointing. We only tipped well because of all the effort put forth by the other staff. read more

Absolutely amazing I would come to Smokehouse way back in the day when my older brother would take me; back when the RibTip was still on the menu, so coming back and being pleasantly surprised that it had gotten even better after being gone for so long made me add it to my list of kick ass places to eat at. My buddy and I came in and we're pleasantly surprised that it wasn't jam packed with people. The environment is cool, with 90s rock playing, a really good beer list (they've had Heady Topper) and just a very good overall vibe. It's also massive compared to when it was a tiny little college-type spot. I wound up ordering the brisket plate with a side of mac and cheese and cornbread which came with it. The brisket was absolutely unbelievable. Loaded with flavor, moist and able to be cut with a spoon. I know they actual smoke their own meats every day and it shows in the quality of the food. (Plus their smoker is in the parking lot next door) On the side was a few pickles and pickled onions that really completed the dish. I ended up using the leftover side of BBQ sauce to drizzle over my Mac and cheese; it was incredible. I finished off with the cornbread which was a nice dense and sweet ending to the already great meal. The waitress came by and asked if we wanted to see a dessert menu, but I was absolutely full (happily). For $20 you honestly cannot go wrong. In short, smokehouse is ALL the way back and I'll be here very often. Incredible food, great prices, great atmosphere. read more

This place is fantastic! I remember when it used to be the small building across the street and I've been a fan since! So happy when they came back to New Rochelle. This place is great, awesome staff, great service, and the food is phenomenal. I've done dine in and takeout, but most recently takeout. The empanadas are my all time favorite empanadas ever especially with the sauce they come with- chefs kiss! The fries are also some of the best, and I wish they had their buttermilk chicken strips again, those were my go-to. My family loves the burgers, and my partner loves the tacos too. Their menu has a lot of great things so I'd try them! Their brunch is also very good as well. I tried their new special the waffle chili fries which were good. I usually order online and it's super easy and you can use their promo code. I love bbq and it's not easy to find places that have authentic smoked bbq. This place has that and has a creative menu. Parking is easy right next to the restaurant and it's free and spacious which is a big plus. The ambiance is bright and nice with a big bar and plenty of tables. The servers were nice and got us set up and made sure we were comfortable. For appetizers we had the wings with the sauce on the side, we also ordered the street corn minus the cheese, both were good, the wings are nice and smoky and the corn was grilled nicely and flavorful. For entrees my wife had the burger with lettuce wrap with fries, I had the St. Louis ribs half rack, with Mac and cheese and corn bread. The ribs were nice had smoky with a sweet flavor, the sauce only complimented it, the cornbread was nice and sweet, the Mac and cheese was good as well. While I like this place it doesn't beat my favorite bbq place and one reason why is that as good as the food is, you're getting nickeled and dimed for certain things, for example all the meats come with cornbread only, want to add a side and you have to pay $7 more. Other places will give you at least one side as a combo if not two, the food is good here but unless I can't make it to my other spot I don't know how often I'd come back here, it gets expensive quick. read more

Great texture and combination of the toasted bread, grilled onions, and cheese. And the cornbread was wonderful as well. I've dined here a couple of times already and catered once. As far as BBQ is concerned it ranks pretty high for a New York joint. It would not fare well compared to a Franklins or an Arnold's Country Kitchen- but good enough. So the food is good enough but they are severely lacking in execution. When dining in you might have to wait a very long time and its not necessarily because it is crowded. I went once and waited 20 minutes just to be seated in a half empty restaurant. Then it look nearly 45 minutes to get my food after I ordered. The waitress admitted there was a shortage in the kitchen (food or people?). Then I catered a small event. No big deal a few steam trays worth of stuff. They day of the event I waited 20 minutes past the agreed delivery time then called the restaurant. After being put on hold then being told someone would call me back, I called back. They totally forgot about my order. They apologized and said it would be at least 45 minutes (they were already late 45 minutes by then). since I already had people waiting, there was no choice but to wait. Here's why they get 4 stars instead of 2. They were HONEST! The manager explained they had a very big catering job and my small order was lost in the mix. It was apparent they did their very best to get me the order as soon as they could and they promised me a reduction on the cost and delivery fee as compensation. The food industry is a tough business. I think they really try to produce as good a product as they can (and they mostly succeed). The business part is where they struggle. When that part fails, customers wait on long lines and wait a long time for their food unnecessarily. And things get dropped- like catering orders. I'm rooting for them and want them to succeed if only because they are honest people and are trying really hard at producing some pretty decent BBQ while trying to give their customers a good dining experience. They just might succeed solely on their rating here. I hope so. But, I think they could be great, not just good enough. I'm going back soon- let's see. read more
