This morning, my wife and I went to the Republic Transfer station to drop off a load of cardboard. On the way back, we stopped at a coffee place to get my wife a cup of fancy coffee. While we were there, we saw a doughnut place that I had never been to. It is called Sweet Sensation Donuts. I told me wife that I had to try it. Every since I have been in Idaho, I have been searching for a good donuts shop. One that is different from the rest. One that puts creativity and love into their work and donuts. Many people seem to like Crispy Creme, but I am not one of them. Crispy Creme is the Fast Food of the donut world. They have conveyor belts and machines that make their donuts as quickly as they can. Nothing could be further from love, care and creativity. I crave a place that makes their donuts the by hand the old fashioned way and cares about their product. Now comes Sweet Sensations to the stage. I tried several of their donuts including the Apple Fritter, Cinnamon Roll, and of course he normal glazed and chocolate. The Apple Fritter looked fine, but did not have any Apple in it that I could see. It had no apple flavor at all. It just tasted sweet. The Cinnamon Roll did not have much cinnamon flavor at all. Well, not as much as I thought it should, but I am a cinaholic. To me, there is no such thing as too much cinnamon. It mostly just tasted sweet. The glazed and chocolate covered was good, but again, for me, way too sweet. I know im not really normal when it comes to these things though. I freely admit this. I like my sweets a lot less sweet. I like to be able to taste more than just sugar. My wife and I got about 6 different kinds of donuts. But after a few bites, every one of them tasted the same. This experience makes me think that maybe my standards are too high. Maybe most people like over the top sweet stuff, hence the name of this place. Sometimes I feel like Frazer on that old TV show. There was this one show where Frazer and Niles had gone to a Steak and Potato restaurant with their dad. Frazier turned to Niles and said; "Have we become so spoiled by expensive food that we can no longer appreciate simple steak and spud anymore." Now I am not a huge falutin foodie that turns his nose up his nose up at the simple things in life. Heck, I love me a good hamburger and fries as much as the next guy. But for me, I just think there should be more than just the same ole same ole food out there. I think there should be more to life and our food than just sustenance. I want creativity, I want adventure, I want to eat food that shows the people that made it did so because they loved to cook and put their love into their food. I want more. Philip read more

Excellent donut place! I got there at 10 on Saturday and there was lots to choose from. The kolaches are DELICIOUS, especially if you have them warmed. There was one like a long croissant filled with cherry and dusted with powered sugar that was amazing. Honestly, they were all good but those are my faves. I should have taken a picture of the box I got, but my kids got a hold of them and they were gone in 5 minutes. The place was clean and the staff friendly. All in all, nice joint. Had to stop here to see if this would be my go to donut place and happy to say it is the place! First of all this is a roomy shop with a few seating spots. It's very clean and easy to social distance. I have been looking for a cream filled donut similar to what I grew up on in Ohio. Sweet Sensations will fill the bars or bavarian donuts with your choice on request. I asked for a glazed bavarian with butter cream (raspberry, bavarian cream were other choices). Then my husband got a blueberry cake donut and a cream filled donut topped with chocolate. The butter cream is thinned so it can be this creamy goodness when you bite into it. I found my Ohio donut (took me 30 yrs)! This place will be our go to donut shop for that special treat at a reasonable price. Lots of fun donuts for the kids. Donuts topped with gummies.. yesss! Glad they are so close on Franklin near Linder. Handy next door is a Dutch Brothers coffee. Yummy and pleasantly surprised. read more

Been wanting to try a local donut shop instead of supporting a chain. This place did not disappoint! We went in around 10:30 on a Saturday and the selection was a little low but when I asked if they had the twisted donut, she said he was in the back making more. Everything tasted fresh and my favorite of all were the donut holes! So so good and I just love that they had them as an option whereas other places don't. The sprinkled donut was really good but not overly sweet which I really liked. The buttermilk blueberry donut was my husbands fave because it was nice and pillowy soft! The twisted donuts came out really hot and fresh and were so yummy!! All in all definitely recommend. Plus price wise I think it was really reasonable for everything we got, I believe it was around $11 or so. Will be going back for sure! read more

A little over a year ago a co-worker brought in a few bags of donut holes from a local donut shop. She gave me a bag, which was oh so sweet of her, and I instantly fell in love. For the next few weeks I felt like I ate here almost daily and then I realized that if I was truly going to savor this deliciousness, I needed to stick to enjoying it only once or twice a week! That being said, I no longer work or live near Sweet Sensations so I am lucky to get there once a month now...but we used to be regulars. I absolutely love their donut holes. They are super affordable as well! I've never seen a better deal on donuts than these. Plus, they are delicious warm, cold, the next day. Hehe. You just can't go wrong. And why share with the kids at that price? Get them their own. As far as other donuts go, my husband's favorite feature is that he can fill any of the donuts that he likes with their many fillings right there on the spot. No settling for a filling you might not be in the mood for, they got you covered! My kids always go for one with lots of sprinkles or candy toppings, and they always have lots to choose from. They also have a drive thru, so once you know what you like and don't need to look in the case - then just pop through the drive thru in your pajamas and hit up dutch bros for coffee after. Sad beyond words. Placed order more than 48 hours in advance for a special occasion using their website and recommended delivery service. Order was first delayed, then later canceled an hour after scheduled delivery time with no notice and no explanation or offer for support. They never answer their phone nor can you leave a message so no way to contact regarding support or help. I am in California and was arranging a surprise celebration for a family member which was to kick off virtually with the surprise delivery of the baked goods from Sweet Sensations. Unfortunately this was not possible. It was suggested I reach out and allow Sweet Sensations an opportunity to offer some restitution in good faith, understanding the situation created by them and their delivery service of choice by canceling after the scheduled delivery date and time had passed. However was not able to make contact with them after multiple attempts. Our ask would be for Sweet Sensations to fulfill the original order at no cost to us (order #623013588830982) including delivery. While not the same impact as had they delivered as committed the first time, it would be a way of creating positive closure on what started as a painful story. Newly moved to Nampa and went looking for a local donut shop for my son and my "Friday donuts". I'm sure there must be donut shops here in nampa but yelp only showed Starbucks and grocery stores. So I looked a bit further out into the valley and came across this gem. Absolutely the best donuts I've had in a VERY long time. So fresh and warm, the donuts have yet to make it to the freeway. The service is just as good as the donuts! Fresh donut hole samples and cheery dispositions make for a great start to any Friday! I came in on a Saturday morning at around 9:00, and they had their fair amount of steady traffic. Not thinking ahead, I walked in knowing that I had to get $60 worth of donuts to bring to work with me, which I didn't call in advance for. When I walked in, I was greeted with cheery smiles and welcomes from all of the staff, hard at work! They took my order with pleasant haste, as they could tell I was in a hurry. After going back twice after the first time, I see the pattern. No selection and low choice if you are there after 10:30. I don't see how they can stay in business. There were so few things to pick from at 1100(9/24/16) that all I could find to like was an apple fritter. And there were only 2 of those at this time. From a 4 star down to 2 star, maybe even a one star. They are looking for help, but if they keep going like this, they won't need help as they won't be open. Drove down there on a Sunday at 9am, during snow. Figured selection would be decent. It wasn't bad, but wasn't great! Whatever, it seems all donut places are like that, selection wise. The donuts appeared to be fresh, and after getting home, definitely are. They are good, no argument here. But just buying a dozen donuts, off the regular shelves. Nothing crazy. No cinnamon rolls, bear claws, typically premium items. Why is a dozen donuts $$ 18.45 ???? I love supporting a local business. I own one myself. By why price gouge your customers? You know we complain as a society here, that we dislike the growth, and masses moving here, and changing what we have here. But this type of business practice does nothing but open that door. I travelled to San Diego a month ago, near the beach. A dozen donuts was $$ 10.34 and the donuts were very good. Comparable to this place. 8 dollar difference tho? I won't return. Sorry.
