sweet in more ways than one, the Sweet Shoppe was bustling with kids and adults alike this past weekend. The sign on the window-- GELATO-- drew me in. Offerings: -gelato (~8-10 flavors) -homemade candies including truffles, fudge, chocolate-dipped everything, and many more. -gift shop items like "cactus candy", gourmet chocolate bars and other shelf-stable treats. Atmosphere: -quintessential candy shop bubble-gum-pop -very busy -limited seating Price: -small gelato (I got stracciatella) was ~$3.25 or close enough -candy/chocolate by the pound was pretty outrageous. Dad got 2 truffles and some almond bark and it cost him $7... so I'm guessing the price is about $16-18 per pound (pretty high for most candy shops). Quality: -gelato was a-ok, not the best I'd had, was missing some of the creamy richness. -chocolates were OK but the price quotient made them seem less yummy. Service: -predominately staffed by teenagers -checkout time seems to be delayed by getting change for cash-paying customers A nice stop-in shop for the sweet tooth who's willing to shell out a little cash. read more

Very cool place. I have finally experienced the saying of a kid in a candy store. So many unusual choices. The best thing was the Jelly Belly selection! Not to mention the two people working were awesome they seem to really love their job. They were also making fudge at the counter and just a beautiful store and setup. This place has earned a customer out of me. This place is amazing in everything. If ever in Flagstaff check this place out you won't be sorry if you do. Excellent sweets, very creamy & rich. No hot chocolate though, which is strange. Flagstaff is always cool in the evening, even in the summer you need a light sweater. Thank God this place is so overpriced! If it weren't I would most definitely visit it more often and have to deal with the unwanted pounds. read more

This is the good chocolate in Flagstaff. It's a little spendy, but if you are a grown-up eating candy you might as well have the good stuff. I think they make all/most of it in house and it tastes good if you've got a sweet tooth. It gets a little tourist-crazy busy sometimes but if you are looking for chocolate downtown it's the place. read more

I loved the variety they had to offer from their wide selection of fudge, candy, caramel apples, and their many gelato flavors. Their staff is extremely patient and friendly. This was my first time going here so I was unsure what everything was or tasted like and the staff was super nice and let me and my friends taste a few of their gelato options. Walking into this exciting atmosphere you and your family or friends will never want to leave. I really loved this adorable little candy store that was a short walk away from my hotel while visiting Flagstaff. My bf and I stopped by for a quick treat to cure our sweet-tooth craving. We didn't leave disappointed. Aside from everything in the glass display case, they offer all kinds of goodies to buy for yourself or as gifts. We liked it so much we went back the next day. This is a cute little shop, but I only gave it 2 stars because of the customer service. I just went in today, bought $40 worth of gelato for myself and my friends. I tried a sample of the pistachio gelato and it was good, so I bought a small. However the sample must have been taken from the top because the portion that was served to me was very gritty and not enjoyable to eat. I went back inside and explained this to the workers and asked if I could exchange it and all he did was give me another sample of it and asked me if it was gritty. Of course it was! So he just said, "Sorry that's the flavor" and wasn't willing to do anything else. There are plenty of other dessert shops in the area, next time I'll go somewhere else. read more

Gelato was good until I found a piece of plastic in mine. I told the cashier and she said it was probably a part of the scooping spoon and it "happens all the time." The most she offered was to throw it away for me, very disappointing, considering how big the piece of plastic was. Better search through your ice cream first! read more

Terrible. The employees were rude, the candy was expensive, the chocolate was waxy, and the caramel apples tasted like windex. The only good thing I can say about this shop is that they have good gelato, and that they have a nice window display. If you want good candy, for a better price, go across Heritage Square to the Flagstaff Chocolate Company in Old Town Shops. They have everything the Sweet Shoppe & Nut House has, only better. Just stopped in yesterday to try the gelato and fudge due to the really solid reviews on them and I have to say... there are plenty of other chocolate stores in the area that can satisfy your sweet tooth at a better price. My SMALL gelato came out to $3.82 with tax and the gelato tasted freezer burned. The fudge tasted old and dried out and I over heard one of the workers to another worker (while I was eating my fudge) that was working at the time saying, "Don't tell anyone I said this, but that fudge is probably a few months old." UM....WHAT?!?! I immediately through my fudge away as soon as I heard that. I would stay clear of the fudge area and the gelato freezer. What a disgrace for an "Old Fashion Candy Store" read more

If you're okay with paying over $7 for a granny smith caramel apple with a few little treats on it or a $5 medium-sized gelato cup, then you'll definitely enjoy this little spot. I understand that these are the usual prices at sweet shops, but I sometimes have a hard time justifying the price of it! The girls working here have always been very helpful and are always offering samples, though, so they definitely make the visit enjoyable. There are many sweet selections at this location - from candy apples to truffles and chocolate-covered strawberries, everything is delicious. There is a $10 minimum if you're paying with a card, however, so you should definitely pay with cash to avoid a stall in your check-out! read more

Love this little shop! Every time I come up to Flagstaff I have to stop by and get some chocolates. Each time I have come in here, they always surprise me with one of their "different/creative" chocolates. This time my son got to have a worm in dirt. It was a coco covered marshmellow with a gummy worm on it, super cute and fun for him. They had a bunch of different fudges, cute little things for christmas..... just so much to choose from. Every winter we go sledding with the kids near Flagstaff, so it is mandatory to go and walk around the downtown area. I love visiting this shop, it has so many yummy things to offer. Besides candy they make fudge, SO MANY KINDS OF FUDGE!!!! I tried a few and ended up buying too many pieces. I was in a sugar coma by the end of the day. We also had a small cup of gelato. There is a small table in the store, however if it is busy you will have to figure out where to hang out. Luckily, that day it was pretty empty, so we got to enjoy our gelato, while deciding how many other goodies we were getting. read more

The sweet shoppe candy store is the fakest place you can walk into. The employees are so sweet, but the owners are the fakest people you will meet. They treat their employees differently with each one and they pick favorites. The candy is overpriced and tastes the same as something you can get at Safeway. I personally can't support a place that tears their employees down instead of lifting them up. read more

Outrageous prices. Its expensive. They are just your average chocale candy store you can find in any mall. I give it 2 stars just because their dark chocolate dipped orange peel was wuite good. But will definitely not be back. read more

Friendly and helpful staff. I have not yet tried the PB caramels we purchased but the dazzled up Rice Krispie treat they make in house is one of the best sweet treats I've had in awhile! This place is pretty much an overpriced candy store. I am not one to shy away from overpriced goodies. However, I feel I was ripped off. For a tiny bag of chile limon cashews, garlic almonds, and 7 pieces of taffy, I payed a little over $20. The chile limon cashews were great. Not worth the $9.95 they charge for a handful when Costco sells a giant tub of cashews for $14. The garlic almonds were not garlicy at all. It seems like they just soaked an already oily nut in some garlic oil. There was hardly any hint of garlic at all. The taffy was probably the only thing I am satisfied with but it wasn't really anything special. Lesson learned, don't get overly excited in a candy shop. read more

I always stop here when in Flagstaff because its a must! We had the Praline fudge and Chocolate Caramel Sea Salt fudge. Both were decadent and we also had the chocolate covered bacon, which was AMAZING! We almost turned the car around to get some more. The place is set up nicely and the service was decent. Visited here on New Year's Eve and the 2nd of January. New Year's Eve has GOT to be the busiest day of the year for this place, as it was packed to the brim with a line out the door. It was understandable, though, as they have a multitude of chocolates, candies, candied apples, old fashioned candies, fudge, gelato, you name it! I am a sucker for sweets, so on New Year's Eve, I bought a pecan chocolate caramel apple, some of their homemade caramels and chocolates, one of their colossally huge peanut butter rice crispy treat concoctions, and my boyfriend got the peanut butter fudge and a regular caramel apple. We really did splurge! When we were there, they were out of their so-called "amazing hot chocolate," but I wasn't too upset considering all of the other goodies they had to choose from! They also have a cute retail section with various gifts and vintage candies and such. The service was a bit rushed, which I don't mind given the circumstances. The second time we went there a few days later, the service was what you would expect from a novelty sweets shop. On our second adventure in, we got some more of their salted caramel candies, truffles, and chocolates to take back with us on the ride home to Phoenix. Now, Sweet Shoppe & Nut House is a must-visit for us every time we venture to Flagstaff! read more

Would like to review this place on their products but we were not able to try anything as the website lies. They are not open til 9 pm on Sunday. They close at 8 pm. Really disappointing that no one can take the time to update a website that would be frequented by visitors due to its downtown location and proximity to great restaurants. We were so happy when we walked into The Sweet Shoppe, and the owner greeted us so warmly. She turned on the charm and turned it off immediately when a regular customer walked in. At that point, she referred us to someone else at the counter, who was busy with many other tasks. It took us 20 minutes to buy less than $12.00 in candy, even though we were the only customers other than the owner's friend. The candy they make on premises is okay, but nothing to get excited about at all. I was extremely disappointed when I saw caramel made from an award-winning company in Bozeman, Montana being offered for sale at the Sweet Shoppe at prices SIGNIFICANTLY higher than other stores in the area. I should have left then, rather than waste nearly $12.00 and twenty minutes on mediocre candy. read more

Love the idea of this cute shop. The combo of gelato, fudge, other homemade candies and old fashioned "penny"candy is adorable. Unfortunately, the quality of the homemade fudge and other chocolates is mediocre at best. When this place first opened, the fudge was fresh and delicious, but in the last couple of years it has gone down hill. It LOOKS really yummy, but tastes old and isn't very soft. I just purchased 1/4 pound but it was so disappointing, I threw it away after a couple of bites. Won't be fooled again! I will say that their gelato is pretty good. Can't speak for the chocolates though- never tried. read more
