    Time to taste test!
    Holly M.

I love this shop! I'm a huge fan of olive oils and different vinegars and was delighted to find it while we wandered around town. The young man behind the counter was very friendly and helpful, even though it was relatively busy, he made sure to speak to everyone. We purchased a Tuscan herb-infused olive oil that is just spectacular. It's hard not to be pleased when you get to try before you buy!

The perfect gift... Garlic Infused Olive Oil and Neapolitan Herb Balsamic Vinegar.

On this small business Saturday I wanted to write a review of one of my favorite small businesses that's big on flavor! OtB has been my go to not just for myself but for gifts for many years! Shopping here is stress free because you taste before you buy! Of course you'll find a variety of awesome olive oil's and balsamic vinegar's that will create the absolute perfect meal but we love some of their sweeter balsamic vinegar's for vanilla ice cream! The Cinnamon Pear and Dark Chocolate Balsamic Vinegar's are a couple of our faves for ice cream! We love their Aged Balsamic for salads and for Asian meals, the Japanese Toasted Sesame Olive Oil is a win! Scott is so helpful and it's so fun to sample all of this goodness! They also set their displays up with great pairings and have much more than olive oil! On your first go around make sure you give yourself a little extra time! ;) Check out their website for some great recipes, order online with free shipping on orders over $39 and sign up for their mailing list to get awesome updates and specials! Olive the Best is truly the best!

Ok, I know it might sound weird to want to spend a lot of time and have fun in a store specializing in olive oil, but it's so fun and easy to do here! Who would know that you could have so much FUN at an olive oil store! Olive the Best has a ton of specialty infused olive oils, balsamics, wine vinegars, salts and dipping spices, and more! They provide small disposable cups so you can taste and mix and match the flavors to see what pairs well together. I have probably spent an hour here doing just that. The owners are so kind and knowledgeable, giving suggestions and recommendations. Every time I come here, I end up having to go to the bakery and getting fresh bread to dip my new oils in. It's a great place for gifts too! OH, and don't miss out on the bread dipping spice mix. It's my secret ingredient in recipes but it's also sublime to add to your oil/balsamic dipper.

We were walking and shopping in downtown Flagstaff today and saw this shop and came in. Scott the owner was there and he was extremely knowledgeable about the various oils and vinegars selling. He mixed up a few for tasting....one of which we had to take home a garlic olive oil and then a Tuscany balsamic vinegar.....oh my goodness it was so good. There were so many different types that it was hard to choose from but in the end I had to get that first one. This shop is a real gem and it was something that we will definitely come back and try again. I highly recommend it....!

What a gem! Without a real plan I stopped by and oh my gosh, you need to come here! This is a truly family - owned business with such amazing products. They have a TON of different olive oils to choose from, all of which you can sample in store. They have balsamic everything, seasonings and lots of cool little samplings to pair with the oils. The owners, besides being kind, are so knowledgeable about their product and can recommend pretty much anything based on your tastes. I won't ever go back to cooking with "plain" store bought oil, they've spoiled me and I'm so glad I found their shop. Highly recommend!

Small size bottle of mango balsamic vinegar

I had previously shopped here when it was under different ownership and was hoping the new store would be able to reuse or recycle the old empty bottle I had from the previous store. The young woman working here said she would be able to recycle it at least. I also asked if I bought anything here, would I be able to bring any empty bottles so they could reuse them. I know at other olive oil stores (Including the previously owned one) they give you a discount for bringing back your old bottles. Unfortunately, this store doesn't. I basically took this bottle on a 2 hour joy ride from Phoenix to Flagstaff as it turns out, since I could have recycled this on my own at home haha. At least I know better now! I figured since I was here I might as well browse through the olive oils and vinegars. In hindsight, I probably shouldn't have tempted myself, since I always end up taking home some sort of bottle from any oil and vinegar store I go to. The varieties here all sounded so appetizing! They have flavored olive oils, and premium varieties, including one that recently won in a competition. I ended up taking home a small bottle of mango balsamic vinegar because it sounded so unique and was quite tasty. As a side note, there isn't any mango puree in it, it's more like mango essence or mango extract flavoring the balsamic vinegar. They do have a very lovely maple vinegar that is made with pure maple syrup though. The damage? $12 for a 200 ml bottle. Time to make a lot of salads with mango balsamic vinaigrette! P.S. I totally didn't realize there was a check in offer for 15% off until I had already left the store so check in first!

Toast I made with the Tuscan herb olive oil (ig: @alisa.eats.food for video tutorial)

I have really been into making different toast variations recently, so I grabbed some olive oil and vinegar from Olive the Best to bring my toasts to the next level. They have the best selection and so many unique infusions I've never heard of before! Scotty, the owner, was very welcoming and we had a great experience here. My friend and I had a fun time tasting different oil and vinegar pairings and narrowing down our options. I ended up picking the Tuscan herb olive oil and classic aged balsamic. I made an epic chimichurri peach toast with the Tuscan herb olive oil yesterday. The olive oil complemented the chimichurri so well and elevated the flavor. I'm feeling very inspired to come up with some new recipes and I'll definitely be back to try some different oils and vinegars!

We LOVE coming here! If the oils and vinegars don't make you keep coming back, it's Scott and his family! We were greeted by Scott today and he was just so helpful! We came in wanting to grab a few different bottles slightly out of our comfort zone and Scott really helped us find those flavors! He not only showed us some amazing flavors but also ways to use them! Highly recommend the Neapolitan herb oil.. it's delicious! And the peach white vinegar is something else! If you have any questions about food pairings, ask whoever is helping you because I'm sure they'll be able to help!!

    Sweetest letter from owners.

I went into the store while visiting Flagstaff, the owners greeted us warmly and told us to try anything they had out. I fell in love with several right off the bat. My two favorite Olive Oils are infused, the Garlic infused and Baklouti Green Chili pepper. I started ordering these for my closing gifts for the homes that I sell in California. But I have fallen in love with all of the vinegars the balsamic's and all of the oils, and I still haven't tried close to half of them. I highly recommend anyone who is near Flagstaff to go into the store and experience some wonderful gourmet oils, salts, vinegars and accessories. This is the only place I will buy from for this product.

Used my Maple Vinaigrette on my salmon, tasted amazing.

We popped in on a Monday morning hoping to score some great grub and we certainly found some! Cubano ($20.95) - Starting with the bread - it's really fluffy, not toasted or pressed as with usual cubanos. Unfortunately, it's probably a little too light for the sandwich because some parts get mushy from being soaked in all the dijonnaise. The dijonnaise is very sweet, creamy with a mustardy zing. I think they add a bit too much, making the sandwich more fatty and messy to eat than I like (not to mention what I stated before about it soaking into the bread). The meat is fantastic. Both porchetta and ham are griddled on the flat top, giving them a developed and concentrated edge. The ham is to the point of being like country ham, while the porchetta still has great seasoned porky flavor. I believe they griddle the swiss cheese alongside the meat. It melts and crisps up into a cheese skirt, adding a fantastic texture to the sandwich. There's a lot of crinkle cut pickles underneath the meat, but it's not enough acid to cut through all that fat. Sandwiches come with a side of house chips. They are fried until a darker golden brown color, but aren't burnt. This gives a great kettle chip-like crunch. Even with different sized chips, they are very evenly fried with all chips being the same texture. They are salted the perfect amount. (4/5) Aleppo Pepper Pastrami sub Tomato Soup ($22.75) - This place is famous for their pastrami, and I can tell the quality. It's cooked on the griddle until it develops crisp edges. It's fatty, but the fat is rendered so there are no chewy and leathery parts. The meat is extremely tender and thinly sliced. It's honestly almost like bacon in texture, but the taste is completely different, with the exterior spices and pepper making a huge impact along with the rich concentrated meatiness inside. The bread is a nice toasted sourdough, not strongly sour in flavor, but definitely noticeable. The bottom slice is slathered with plenty of nopales studded cream cheese. It's added in a large amount and is an extremely creamy and fatty substance yet somehow doesn't overwhelm the sandwich. It's warm but not melty. The nopales are clearly there but I didn't find it to contribute much. The pastrami is layered on top of that followed by a ton of sweet brown caramelized onions that are very tender. An entire green chile, roasted and super smoky, is above that. Finally, aleppo mustard is spread on the top slice of bread. Between the green chile and the aleppo, there's a slight warmth that tinges the sandwich. It's nothing too spicy. Instead of chips, we opted to sub the Tomato Soup (no fee). It's very homestyle, full of tomato richness in a thick blend. It has a strong tangy tomato essence. There's basil oil drizzled on top for a boost of freshness. The soup is unfortunately quite a bit too acidic for my tastes, but that's only by itself! While very acidic, the soup is actually great as a balance to the sandwich (along with the pickle of course) since there's so much richness and fat coming in between the bread. (5/5) Proper Meats + Provisions definitely serves some great sandwiches. We were considering visiting again for our 2 full days in Flagstaff, but weren't able to make it because they close so early at 6! It may have been because we were there for lunch or it was just a Wednesday lull but we were able to get a table right away. The waiter was prompt and was very professional. I had the ravioli with ground beef and cheese and the alfredo sauce. Let me tell you, I only use the word sauce because that is what you would expect someone to call it, but, to me, it was more of a cheese gravy. I'm not complaining, not in the least bit, if they had biscuits and 'gravy' on the menu and it was this sauce there is no amount of GLP1 meds to fight the weight I would put on. Arrived on time and here is where my disappointment began: Turned away because our table wasn't ready. It wasn't the wait, but the attitude of the hostess. Like we were an annoyance. Once seated we order wine and apps. Before we even got our apps we were asked for our dinner order. This is not appropriate for a supposed fine dining establishment. Didn't get one of the apps we ordered. Waitstaff didn't come back to check on us, and then a different server dropped off our meals. And that was the last time anyone checked on us. We were blatantly ignored. Had to ask for the check. No acknowledgement of our celebration. Our plates were never cleared. The suggestion of dessert was more of a dare. We declined. I don't intend this review to discourage future diners, but to bring service problems to management. It could have been the lack of waitstaff, or poor reservation management. But I've seen too many restaurants with potential die due to service issues. I'm so sad for our célébrée more than anything. BUT the food was excellent and the choice of Chianti quite good!
