Chocolate covered pretzel stick (my fave), milk chocolate peanut cluster, maple cream dark chocolate (other fave)
    Ashley L.

One of my small handful of regular places I like to pop in when I'm in downtown Flag. Flag kinda lacks a great ice cream shop, cupcakery, etc. so this is my stop for a local sweet treat. Probably nothing here will blow you away but it's worth picking out a few chocolates at the counter to try post-hike or graze on over the following few days. I usually get a couple pretzel sticks (they chocolate dip them in house). Most recently one of the chocolates I chose was filled with maple cream and I loved it. It's not common to find maple chocolates outside of Canada and it's such an underrated combination. Service is adequate, I'm really slow to choose what I want and the girls didn't get too impatient with me. Yeah the place could use a facelift or it could just keep with its classic old style.

Decent chocolate shop in the middle of a bustling touristy square. Great customer service and had no complaints, some items looked a bit aged and I steer cleared from those! Wouldn't mind returning when they give the place a makeover.

    Rotten and smelly apple.
    Mary B.

Super disappointed. The lack of attention to the store as opposed to its surrounding stores was obvious. The jar candy visually looked old, which says a lot considering candy shelf life is fairly long. I directed my family to choose treats from behind the counter instead. Well, that wasn't much better. The chocolate orange slices were... just awful really. They didn't taste like any other we have tried from anywhere else. I tried to force myself to finish the piece I had and ended up throwing it and the rest away. The caramel apple was also bad. The inside was brown and squishy. I attempted to eat the outer side of the apple but the nuts didn't taste good and the caramel... or the apple had a weird smell. After making myself eat a piece I just threw the whole thing away. We seriously wasted $26 tonight and no one was happy with what they picked. I should of known something was up when I saw the "all sales are final" sign. Seriously, get rid of your old products instead of keeping them until they sell otherwise your going to have the health inspector all over you.

The place is nice and the staff is very friendly. Unfortunately, the chocolates they sell are nothing special - in fact they are below average.

    One pound assorted chocolates

On the corner of Birch and Leroux are located the Old Town Shops of Historic Downtown Flagstaff, Arizona; and this is the home of Flagstaff Chocolate Company. Besides their handmade chocolates, truffles, brittle and fudge; there is an assortment of covered apples. They sell many of the popular name brand, and not so famous, candies; also bulk candies such as jelly beans and gummies. I purchased a one pound box of assorted chocolates, and as you can see from the photo, they not only look pretty, but delectable. I can attest to the fact that they are! The chocolate is smooth and luscious; the fillings are packed with flavor. Walking around the historic downtown of Flagstaff, there are many little shops to browse and buy in; but don't go home without stopping at the Chocolate Company and purchasing some of their delicious candies. Not going to be in Flagstaff any time soon, then go to their website and order online....no excuses there, just delicious indulgence.

Our favorite little candy shop in Flagstaff. Tucked away in the Old Town Shops in Downt Flagstaff. We always find ourselves here after a great meal downtown and grab my kids a quick ice cream before we head back home. The shop is filled with goodies like caramel apples, jelly beans, chocolates and all kinds of kookie candies. I have yet to try the caramel apples but I have a feeling I will be getting one soon. They have few ice cream flavors to chose from but my kids are in love with the bubble gum so it works out just fine. If you are downtown and have a sweet tooth give this place a go. Friendly staff and Heritage square is just outside for you to enoy your teats in the sun.

Most chocolate is waxy and not worth the effort. But a really good chocolate melts at body temperature and will melt in your fingers and in your mouth. Even then not all chocolate has a good rich chocolate flavor. Flagstaff Chocolate company hits on all levels. A rich dark chocolate that melts in your mouth and is (i know this sound stupid but) is chocolaty. we went back the next night to stock up as chocolate this good is rare.

My boyfriend ordered the hot London Fog and really enjoyed it. I can't remember the exact name of my drink - something like Orange Dream - but it was delicious as well. You can actually taste the tea, and it doesn't taste artificial at all. Super good. There's plenty of seating inside, which makes it a great place to hang out. The only downside is parking - finding a spot in Flagstaff can be tricky, and most of the parking in the area is paid. That said, it wasn't too busy when we went around 8am. Definitely recommend!

Also no (they do have tea lattes) Hot chocolate? Technically yes... but even that comes with Earl Grey tea inside. These folks are deeply, passionately committed to one thing: dried leaves steeped in hot water. And honestly, they do it well. If you're a tea lover, this place is your Disneyland. The selection is impressive, the vibe is relaxed, and the people behind the counter clearly care about what they're doing. There's a real enthusiasm here for the craft of tea, and that kind of passion is always fun to see. That said, my one issue was a pretty important one on a cold Flagstaff day... My tea showed up lukewarm. Now normally I'm a pretty forgiving person... but when it's 40 degrees outside and tea is the entire business model, this feels like a pretty big detail. When tea is the whole menu, temperature isn't a detail... it's the headliner. I like the concept. I respect the passion. It's just a bit limiting for my taste, and the execution missed slightly on the most important note. Three stars. A cool idea... that just needed to be a little hotter.

(They're leaps and bounds better than that place in Heritage Square). Good quality dark chocolate exterior and flavorful fillings, though I did find some of the fillings a bit salty and wished there were more chocolate interior options rather than all "chocolate outside, something else inside." Some of the flavors were a bit too, uh, Sedona out-there for me, but that's just my personal taste, so I can't hold that against them. Why not 5 stars? Well, they're not in the same tier as the all-timers of fancy chocolates, like LA Burdick in Boston or the like, despite being priced about as high. But if you want fancy handmade chocolates, it's a great option to have in town.

We popped in on a Monday morning hoping to score some great grub and we certainly found some! Cubano ($20.95) - Starting with the bread - it's really fluffy, not toasted or pressed as with usual cubanos. Unfortunately, it's probably a little too light for the sandwich because some parts get mushy from being soaked in all the dijonnaise. The dijonnaise is very sweet, creamy with a mustardy zing. I think they add a bit too much, making the sandwich more fatty and messy to eat than I like (not to mention what I stated before about it soaking into the bread). The meat is fantastic. Both porchetta and ham are griddled on the flat top, giving them a developed and concentrated edge. The ham is to the point of being like country ham, while the porchetta still has great seasoned porky flavor. I believe they griddle the swiss cheese alongside the meat. It melts and crisps up into a cheese skirt, adding a fantastic texture to the sandwich. There's a lot of crinkle cut pickles underneath the meat, but it's not enough acid to cut through all that fat. Sandwiches come with a side of house chips. They are fried until a darker golden brown color, but aren't burnt. This gives a great kettle chip-like crunch. Even with different sized chips, they are very evenly fried with all chips being the same texture. They are salted the perfect amount. (4/5) Aleppo Pepper Pastrami sub Tomato Soup ($22.75) - This place is famous for their pastrami, and I can tell the quality. It's cooked on the griddle until it develops crisp edges. It's fatty, but the fat is rendered so there are no chewy and leathery parts. The meat is extremely tender and thinly sliced. It's honestly almost like bacon in texture, but the taste is completely different, with the exterior spices and pepper making a huge impact along with the rich concentrated meatiness inside. The bread is a nice toasted sourdough, not strongly sour in flavor, but definitely noticeable. The bottom slice is slathered with plenty of nopales studded cream cheese. It's added in a large amount and is an extremely creamy and fatty substance yet somehow doesn't overwhelm the sandwich. It's warm but not melty. The nopales are clearly there but I didn't find it to contribute much. The pastrami is layered on top of that followed by a ton of sweet brown caramelized onions that are very tender. An entire green chile, roasted and super smoky, is above that. Finally, aleppo mustard is spread on the top slice of bread. Between the green chile and the aleppo, there's a slight warmth that tinges the sandwich. It's nothing too spicy. Instead of chips, we opted to sub the Tomato Soup (no fee). It's very homestyle, full of tomato richness in a thick blend. It has a strong tangy tomato essence. There's basil oil drizzled on top for a boost of freshness. The soup is unfortunately quite a bit too acidic for my tastes, but that's only by itself! While very acidic, the soup is actually great as a balance to the sandwich (along with the pickle of course) since there's so much richness and fat coming in between the bread. (5/5) Proper Meats + Provisions definitely serves some great sandwiches. We were considering visiting again for our 2 full days in Flagstaff, but weren't able to make it because they close so early at 6!
