2015 YELP 100 CHALLENGE - 016/100 Cute little old school candy/dessert shop in Downtown Flagstaff! My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday night after our date night dinner at Tinderbox Kitchen a few blocks away. It's a cute shop with a ton of different types of candies, chocolates, gelato, and fudge! They had a bunch of prepackaged candies and chocolate bars. Some of them were like old skool candies that were popular back in the day. They had some fancy chocolate bars that I was tempted to buy as well. I also came in after the Christmas holidays and all of the holiday stuff was on sale, which was cool. They also had their own merch like t-shirts and sweatshirts. I bought one of the tees because I thought it was pretty cute :) My boyfriend and I got some gelato. Presentation wasn't the nicest/fanciest, but the consistency was spot on. I got the pumpkin cheesecake and white chocolate strawberry cheesecake. It was super yummy and I REALLY liked the pumpkin cheescake. Wish I could have gotten more! I also sampled some of the fudge and ended up buying 2 1/4 pieces - one of dark chocolate sea salt, and one of coconut/almond chocolate. So yummy! They had a great selection too which was awesome. Avoid this place. Overpriced and the staff is rude. They maybe said two words to us "what do you want" we ordered, I asked if they had any box specials for their truffles. They replied no. Didnt see if we had any questions or needed any help. We ordered what we wanted and they rushed us to checkout. They took our card and didnt even look at us when we got our receipt and left. Overall, the sweets are pretty run of the mill stovers type chocolate. Just get your sugar fix at Target. read more

I definitely don't want to be that person, and wanted to love this place just as much as everyone else, but my review is for the gelato. I'm not a fudge person nor a caramel or chocolate apple/candy lover so the only thing that we were drawn to was the gelato. I'm sure the great reviews are for everything else, but, the person behind the gelato scoop was a) not wearing gloves and b) licked his hand as he was handing us the gelato. Now I wanted to be nice because I thought I'd give the gelato the benefit of the doubt, and of course I'm not a germaphobe so I didn't really mind (he's lucky cause other people may care), but at some point I lost my appetite for the gelato. He gave us a generous amount of gelato, but the texture wasn't what gelato should be like. It was more runny and stickier than it should be. I just wasn't a fan. I purchased a caramel apple here last night for eight dollars. I had one of the employees slice it for me upon purchase so that my boyfriend and I could share it. We each had two pieces and then refrigerated the rest of apple last night so we could eat it today. We both finished the rest of the apple pieces today. When I bit into the core, the entire core and seeds were covered in mold. Completely bruised and moldy. I spit it out right away, but now I am worried that we will both get sick because of this. My boyfriend and I took a day visit from Phoenix to Flagstaff today and we were able to end the trip on a perfect note! After leaving lunch at a local brewery we smelled the sweet smell of chocolate and followed our noses down the block until we arrived at Sweet Shoppe & Nut House. The front window display was filled top to bottom in every kind of carmel covered apple you could image and we didn't hesitate walking inside to satisfy our now craving sweet tooth. We ended up purchasing a carmel, white chocolate, and milk chocolate covered Granny Smith apple, raisin milk chocolate clusters, chocolate and peanut butter fudge topped with reese's pieces, a white chocolate champagne truffle, and a dark chocolate tiramisu truffle! We definitely got caught with our hand in the cookie jar!! After sampling all of our treats let me just say how AMAZING the TRUFFLES were. These were not your everyday petite- one bite truffle..... o no!....... these were giant meatball sized truffles. And thank goodness they were so big because they were the best truffle I have had in awhile and I didn't want the goodness to end. The only reason I am giving Sweet Shoppe a 4 **** is because it was a tad over priced but I wouldn't mind paying the price again. Looking for something for your sweet tooth? Check out this great place in historical downtown Flagstaff. In a great brick building that screams "Yummy"! The window is filled with various kinds of candy apples (my choice from my childhood - green apple with caramel and crushed peanuts). Soooo good ! They have glass displays with a multitude of truffles, chocolate covered pretzels and dozens of other kinds of handmade treats. You can walk through the store and find something that will hit the spot. The young man who helped couldn't have been more pleasant. Take the time if you are downtown and forget the calories. One of the best stops for treats in all of Flagstaff! The sweet shoppe is one of our summertime, regular, after dinner stops. We usually get ice cream because, preschoolers... but they have all kinds of treats to choose from. Decadent chocolates, incredible caramel and candied apples, and SO MUCH CANDY. While the ice cream selection isn't extensive, they cover the bases with the basic vanilla and chocolate, mint, bubblegum, and a few other flavors. One of the greatest things is that they are adjacent to Heritage Square. It's great to stroll over to their shop then head out to the square to enjoy our treats. Especially in summer there is something going on most evenings like live music or other performances. The price is really quite nice as well, one of the least expensive kid scoops around I think. I 100% recommend swinging by to satisfy your sweet tooth. read more

The best caramel apples!!! Employees are amazing!! A few days ago, on my in-laws and nephews travel from NC to CA hauling a new 36 Ft trailer for their daughter. It was my mother in laws Bday and the trip had not been easy. Decided to find a way to get some caramel apples sent to their campground (extra to bring home for me too). Picked up fudge and a cheesecake Carmel apple both really tasty! Would recommend the Oreo fudge.

We visited this shop Friday Nov 15th. I add the date because who ever was working might need a talking to. I wanted a Carmel, PECAN, and chocolate candy, sometimes called bear paws or turtles. I also ordered Toffee. The next day I went to eat them and it was PEANUT, not pecan, and the "Toffee" was a almond bark, not toffee at all. The person clearly had no idea what the items where. It was very disappointing to get items I did not order and not have the candy I wanted. read more

This place was great overall. But I expected there to be more variety since this was a candy and sweets shop. The employees were so sweet and patient and the peanut butter fudge was so delicious. It was a bit on the pricey side but the fudge and treats were delicious. Now, I do have to rave about their caramel and chocolate covered apples. These were DELICIOUS! I stopped and in and was surprised by their large selection. I walked around the store and waited at the truffle/chocolate area. I was the only customer and the 3 + workers continued on with their conversation near the back of the store. Finally after some time I went over and asked for help. They were willing to help and I'm assuming the workers were a bit shy. I ordered a peanut butter Carmel (so delish) and bought two of the mountain bars; which is their version of a rice crispy treat. I highly recommend purchasing these - especially if you are bringing a treat back to family. They are fantastic!! I kept mine in the fridge due to the Arizona heat and it was great item to snack on. read more

Definitely overpriced but this little shop was pretty cute! We ordered a Reese's caramel apple, butter pecan fudge and cookies n' cream bark. They were all your standard candy fare but the apple was far and away the best. They cut it up for us so we didn't have to break our teeth eating dessert. I was here, again, the other night. This is the place to go for gelato, caramel applies, or any kind of chocolate candy. The gelato is trucked in from out of state, and comes in about 20 flavors. The decor is charming. There is indoor seating. The customer service is hit or miss. Saturday night I had a young man wait on me. He was eating tacos as he took my order, didn't wash his hands before dishing up my gelato and then wiped my gelato up against his credit card machine. Yuck. Next time I'll ask if someone else can help me. The location is right down town. Walk there after having dinner at one of the great local restaurants. Parking is limited. Your best bet is to park in the Amtrak lot by the visitor center and walk. Or you can pay for parking at the Hopi Garage, which is across the street. read more

They also have a decent collection of fudge which tasted pretty good I'd say.. but since I'm not really a fan of fudge, did not end up buying any. This place is the best. I've visited the downtown Flagstaff location several times and always got something yummy! Today they went above and beyond. I am sick, and stranded because of the snow. My mom called them (she's in fountain hills), and they showed up an hour later with a hot apple cider, 6 amazing coconut caramel chocolate cookies, and a pint of double chocolate gelato! Not only is my mom the sweetest most thoughtful person for doing this, but I sincerely appreciate the sweet shoppe, and the incredibly kind lady who braved the snow and ice to show up at my door with a sweet surprise. My candy companion that day wanted a candy apple and I saw that there were a few "day olds" for half-off, so we bought one. No complaints there! Prices may seem a bit spendy ($7 for a candy apple that is NOT a day old), but I don't mind helping out a local shop vs a chain shop. Plus, I don't frequent candy stores that much, so I don't feel too guilty about splurging. I chose a mango sorbet that featured lots of real mango, stringiness attached! Offerings: -gelato (~8-10 flavors) -homemade candies including truffles, fudge, chocolate-dipped everything, and many more. -gift shop items like "cactus candy", gourmet chocolate bars and other shelf-stable treats. Atmosphere: -quintessential candy shop bubble-gum-pop -very busy -limited seating Price: -small gelato (I got stracciatella) was ~$3.25 or close enough -candy/chocolate by the pound was pretty outrageous. Dad got 2 truffles and some almond bark and it cost him $7... so I'm guessing the price is about $16-18 per pound (pretty high for most candy shops). Quality: -gelato was a-ok, not the best I'd had, was missing some of the creamy richness. -chocolates were OK but the price quotient made them seem less yummy. Service: -predominately staffed by teenagers -checkout time seems to be delayed by getting change for cash-paying customers A nice stop-in shop for the sweet tooth who's willing to shell out a little cash. read more
