I've eaten here a few times and the food is good BUT the most recent visit was extremely horrible. We get our table but do not get attended for our drinks the whole time. Not once did they look our way while the waiters and waitresses were talking. Keep in mind, we were the few people that were there in the restaurant so they were obviously not busy at all. Their staff has changed- they seem a lil moody and bothered to have customers even via the phone. Their cakes used to be delicious and moist but the last time I went for cupcakes they were dry. I read so many good things about this place and I was so excited to eat there but the food was just terrible. They have very friendly staff and it does seem to be a popular brunch restaurant but those were the only positive things I had to say about the place. The food tasted store bought rather than "homemade". I could honestly go to HEB and buy the exact can of beans and salsa that was served to me. I really enjoy going to Sweet Temptations, as everything I've tried there has been tasty. The last time I went, the server recommended the green chile soup which I wasn't super excited to try. I tried it anyway and I am SO glad I did. It is the best soup I've ever had, period. I've tried the tortilla soup which is excellent but lacks chicken which would make it even better. Still worth having anyway. I've tried the chicken salad sandwich, chicken alfredo and my favorite, chicken cordon bleu. I have never been there for breakfast but I do highly recommend this place for lunch. The owners are there frequently (if not always) and they are so kind and welcoming. It's a small and dainty restaurant with a very homey atmosphere that feels like you're eating at grandma's house. We ate brunch last Friday and ordered the pancakes, Belgium waffles, and breakfast potatoes which were AMAZING. The pancakes and waffles were so fluffy and delicious! Very welcoming, homey restaurant that is always full. The wait staff is attentive and helpful in selecting a good entree. Everything I've tried is delicious, however I always end up with a cup of soup and a slice of quiche, always oven-hot, fresh, and delicious. The tortilla soup, as others have commented, is delicious, but the potato soup is my hands down favorite. It's creamy and peppery with huge chunks of perfectly-cooked potatoes. Why just soup and quiche? To save room for the desserts, which are amazing every time and very fresh as well. I only have one complaint - they're all so delicious, you will second guess yourself no matter which you pick. A very nice problem to have! I would like to say that Sweet Temptations has the best pancakes in the world. Better than IHOP/IHOB, Denny's, and any other pancake joint out there. They have a variety of other brunch items in their menu that are great as well. However, ordering a side of pancakes just ties everything together. Sweet Temptations is a well-established restaurant in a very nice little mall just off 10 St. in McAllen. Whenever I walk in the restaurant I am always amazed that there is not a line out the door. The place always seems to be packed, but everyone gets seated quickly. That is because someone actually manages the dining room like a maître d' is supposed to do. They not only meet and greet, they ensure high levels of quality service and keep things running smoothly and efficiently. Even better, the food is great! I have eaten there several times and have never had bad food. Most recently I had potato soup and a piece of spinach and bacon quiche. In both cases the helpings were more than ample and they tasted delicious. I also had a side order of their famous bread. Because the dining room is managed well, there were just a few moments between courses served, without being rushed. The owner was very nice and offered a different dish but I did eat the meal but didn't enjoy it. Did someone say Carmel Banana Pie?!!! I had planned on snapping a photo to add but I couldn't resist. By the time it crossed my mind, the pie was half-way finished. This is one of few places I order dessert at because I hate feeling like I have to lie to my calorie tracker. But, I would do so for just a scoop of the carmel! Better off with lunch. Breakfast was overpriced and underwhelming. French toast was thin and 1.99/ slice. You can get a better serving at a better price for the same taste at IHOP. Huevos rancheros were two eggs served over a piece of ham and a corn tortilla. The "ranchero" sauce was the same salsa being served with everyone's egg dishes.
