They serve everything you could ever wish for during these holidays, but my favorite is....the Butternut Squash Soup Brunch is amazing, and features all the things and also includes a chef making omelettes to order as well as a little corner for children with waffles and Nutella and whipped cream :-) Let me get back to this soup, which I am sure you know is seasonal and probably not available as I write this review but it is WORTH the wait. As a matter of fact, I requested for my HBD that we go to SweetFire so I can order this and Chef Shay delivered. It has the nuttiness, sweetness, and a mild spicy flavor that I have not found in any other butternut squash soup. She adds fresh basil and toasted granola with an olive oil drizzle that makes the presentation lovely. The food at SweetFire Kitchen was good overall, but the service was a little slow, especially considering the restaurant did not seem very busy when we were there. Most of the meal was enjoyable, and everything was going well until dessert. Unfortunately, the goat cheese cheesecake with bitter grapes was one of the worst desserts I've ever had. The flavor combination just did not work, and it left a bad final impression after an otherwise solid meal. read more

Christmas Feast was delicious with lots of variety. Our favorites were the prime rib and the gnocchi bar. This was perfect for me visiting my daughter from out of town and well worth the price. I couldn't give them 5 stars as our server was not great and parking is expensive. We paid almost $25 without tip to park. Sweetfire is located in La Cantera Resort and has inside and outside seating as well as a bar. The drinks are made well and the food is good. We shared a BBQ chicken pizza which had good flavor and also had the southern style cornbread. The cornbread was a bit dry. Service was good. read more

We attended a birthday brunch at SweetFire Kitchen and had the best time and food while there. Our dedicated staff made sure our glasses stayed full, our coffee hot, and the plates cleared. One lady (I want to say her name was Mercedes) was so personable that I would go back just to hang out with her, LOL! The food on the buffet was plentiful and the staff manning it was engaging and helpful with questions and serving. My favorite was their "build your own smoked salmon station." Even as they were drawing to the end of brunch service, the food stayed plentiful and the staff went above and beyond to assist. I took off one star because I did notice the prices were pretty steep. Our hostess paid the bill, but I can imagine that, for the price, the selection of food was a little disappointing. SweetFire is located in the La Cantera Resort which has a beautiful interior layout. The only downside, and another reason for the 4-star review is that you have to pay for parking on top of the food and drink you consume. Overall, though, I would return and do think it's worth it. read more

The service was impeccable! Ivett took great care of us. I really enjoyed the crab beignets and my redfish and shrimp. I will say the redfish was overcooked so I couldn't finish it. This is my second time here and I did notice the kitchen took a while again, which is a common occurrence here. Our reservation was at 10:30 AM on a Sunday for 5 people. Two of us arrived early and were seated immediately. We sat for almost 20 minutes without a server coming to pour water, coffee, or offer us menus. We asked at the hostess stand for a server, and were told "okay." But no one showed up. Meanwhile, the other 3 members of our party arrived. A server finally appeared and took drink orders and directed us toward the buffet. The rest of brunch went well with good food and occasional check-ins from the server to remove plates and refill drinks. Then the bill was presented. It was accurate so we put a credit card down and waited for the server to return. And waited. And waited. 30 minutes later, we tried to pay at the hostess stand but were told that they had "called the server." Another few minutes went by before he finally showed up to take our payment. All other tables in the restaurant were amply tended to - servers offering service, delivering drinks, picking up checks. But our table was mostly ignored like we were a bunch of lepers. The hostess would not or could not help us other than "calling" for a server. Although the food was delicious, hot, and nicely presented, the lack of service was highly disappointing. If all of the other customers had been treated as we were, it *might* have been understandable. But no - just our party. I don't think we will return. read more

We'll just start with a quick word about La Cantera- overpriced, dated and cheap management. To be reviewed elsewhere. Had reservation for seven people at 6:15 PM and despite a relatively empty restaurant, it took them 15 minutes to get the table together to seat us finally. Our server was great. Only thing giving this an addl Star. The cornbread app with unevenly baked pieces - not warm and not soft. The deviled eggs tasted strange - not good at all. All of the fish dishes we ordered were "not cooked as the chef recommended" as the server said but basically destroyed by overcooking and dried out. Barely any sauces on the fish. They served a $60 ribeye my nephew and kids split on plates so small that you couldn't cut the meat on them without the food falling off. Really disappointing but can see why given the overall quality you get at the resort, that this is allowed Would only come back here is everything was taken care of by a business junket. read more

This was my the second year that we visited SweetFire Kitchen for the Mother's Day Brunch. As we were only able to snag a reservation because someone cancelled last minute last year (and my mom was over the moon about it), I made reservations in February this year... it took some planning! The restaurant called once I made the reservation and requested that a card be put down to hold the reservation (to charge if we were no-shows) and also called to confirm my reservation twice in the weeks before. It seemed a bit much but it wasn't a big deal. The buffet had a different selection of stations/ options this year which was a bit of a surprise but was OK. I will note, the selection of items and the ability to keep the items stocked was better in 2022. The cheese/meat station was often bare and had people waiting for more to be put out. This year, they did had the following stations: desserts, prime rib, ham, salmon, chicken & waffles, seafood (oysters, shrimp & muscles), omelet and more. While some of the dishes weren't my favorite/ weren't the best... there were other things that were outstanding (waffles, chicken sausage, desserts) so I really couldn't complain as I thoroughly enjoyed my meal as did my family. As for the the restaurant itself... it was nice while still a casual environment. There were guests dressed from pajamas to long dresses... a very flexible environment. Lastly, I want to mention the service. Amber was our server and she was fantastic! Not only was she very efficient in bringing drinks and any sauces ordered, but she was helpful in making suggestions and making the morning a pleasant experience. Truthfully, every staff member we spoke with was very nice and happy to help. We will request Amber any time we visit - I highly recommend her! Had a wonderful breakfast buffet during our stay. It wasn't as busy as I thought it would be at about 8:30am on a Sunday. There was a group ahead of us and then we were promptly & happily seated by the window overlooking the grounds and Topaz pool area. It was an overcast day but it was still a beautiful view with floor to ceiling windows and brightly lit room away from the main dining room. Darian was our server and explained the buffet price($28) or if we wanted to order a la carte. We went for the buffet since it was included in our room rate. We were served coffee, water and Almond Milk for our creamer as requested. The coffee was medium roast but bold. I walked around the buffet area to take a look at the options and started off with a huge, fluffy biscuit. They had chicken sausage, pork sausage, bacon & potatoes in warming stations. There was a separate area for fried chicken, country gravy and waffles with maple syrup, whipped cream M&Ms & butter in case you wanted to make chicken & waffles. There was a fruit station with watermelons, strawberries/blueberries/blackberries, honeydew, pineapple and next to them was some lox, cream cheese, red onions, capers and sour cream. The pastry/bread station had mini croissants, muffins, bagels, bread and a toaster, jam and a very sweet nut bread. The omelette station had several fillings to choose from. I ordered a smaller omelette as Pete, the Omelette Chef, asked if I wanted a big or small omelette as in 2-3 egg omelette. Clever! Now I know that I can specify! I had him put mushrooms, spinach, chopped tomatoes, chopped green peppers and cubed ham. There was some salsa off to the side so I put some in a small cup. I proceeded to put some lox, capers & berries on another plate. The lox was fresh, not slimy and really was a healthy protein option. Service was attentive and Damian would come by offering more hot coffee from the carafe. It was such a pleasant experience and the food was good. I'm ready to come back again! read more

We tried the sweet fire kitchen during our recent stay at La Cantera resort. We tried their breakfast and we are so glad that we started our day with some amazing food. The ambiance was A+ with options of both inform and outdoor seating. I love the fact that the menu is short and simple with all the breakfast essentials. Hubby tried their Veggie omelette and I tried their eggs Benedict and both were so good. The service is exceptional as the server was super quick and kept on checking with us. Came here for the Grinch brunch and was blown away by the attention to detail. The food stations included everything you could want: roast beef carving station, veg section, waffle bar, omelet bar, charcuterie, breakfast food, and a beautiful dessert spread. The house was fully staffed and even the manager was rounding to make sure the food was stocked. The Grinch was housed in his own section and they had staggered story times and pictures so the line was never too long. There were tons of TV's playing football and The World Cup. The kids were given cups to take home and cookies at the end. Outside there is a huge beautiful Christmas tree to take pictures. This place takes brunch to a new level. read more

Horrible experience. We had a 7:00 reservation and were seated as soon as we arrived. Ordered drinks and appetizers which came out pretty quickly. We ordered our entrees at 7:30 and at 8:30 our dishes still had not been served. Our server told us several times that our dishes were being plated as he walked by with dishes for other tables that had been seated after us. We both ordered the blackened red fish and, when our food finally arrived, it was overcooked and tasteless. We didn't eat but a few bites and told our server we were done. He offered us a free dessert which we ordered but after 15 minutes it had not been served. We went to the host stand to see if they could get our check and they obviously understood our disappointment and told us we didn't have to pay for our meals. We will NEVER go back or recommend this overpriced underserved cooking school to anyone. read more

It comes with a bit of butter on top and a side of honey...so good! - Their cocktails were very refreshing and they had a good kick to them! My favorite was the mango daiquiri - Their truffle fries are the best I've ever had! The food was okay! Although the service was a little strange. I'm not sure if we had someone new. I ordered an avocado toast that was great, and my husband ordered a French toast. The French toast was supposed to come with berries and it with just bread. when we asked the waiter if he could have the berries it came with, he said that he specifically put the order to be without it for some reason without us asking for it. we also both ordered mimosas but he gave my husband a glass of champagne without orange juice, which was also a little strange. He was very nice. It was just a weird interaction haha. It was nice to sit outside hot weather day to enjoy the surroundings. For what we paid we probably just could've gone somewhere else that was better with more food, but it may be worth the money if you just want to keep the peaceful ambiance and stay on the resort. I dined at SweetFire for dinner and breakfast will staying at La Cantera Resort. Dinner: First, the menu online didn't match the menu we were handed in the restaurant (online shows oysters for dinner, which was the reason I wanted to eat here). I ordered the ribeye medium rare with additional side of sweet potato fries. The ribeye came medium, and the sweet potato fries were overcooked. It was still edible, so no complains in person, but they definitely could have done a better job cooking the steak to temperature. Additionally a rib-eye cut is known for it's beautiful lines of fat, which make it extra juicy and tender. This piece lacked all of that, and due to being overcooked, it was very dry. The experience was wonderful and the staff was great. There could just be improvement on the food, especially when considering the pricing. Breakfast: My friends and I were able to enjoy breakfast on the patio, which was perfect for that morning! I enjoyed the cheddar biscuit, granola/yogurt/fruit, and sausage. Everything was delicious. The biscuit was a bit hard, but I loved the mini jams it came with. Lunch: I attempted to pick-up lunch here on a Sunday but they did not allow for that since it was a buffet style meal that day. Overall, if you're staying at the resort I highly recommend you eat off site. The restaurants are over priced and generic, and there are so many great places to eat in San Antonio! My fiancé and I were very excited to try SweetFire Kitchen while staying at La Cantera, however it turned out to be very disappointing for us. First, service was very slow and it took 20 minutes for us to be seated even though half of the restaurant had open tables. Second, our orders were totally incorrect - we asked for sour cream on the side on the baked potatoes but it didn't come on the side and we also asked for truffle fries with the burger, but received regular fries. Sadly, we had been waiting for dinner for so long we didn't care to complain and settled for our food. What's even more sad is hearing the other tables around us complain to the Manager regarding the slow and poor service they were also receiving. Bacon was thin and floppy. Waiter gave us warm tap water. Everything else was just fine, but definitely not worth nearly $100. You're better off going to a Denny's for brunch, don't bother with this overpriced buffet. read more

What is a person to do for Thanksgiving dinner if they are in the middle of moving and melding two households? I am that person and I have cooked Thanksgiving dinner every year for 40 years... so finding a good replacement was a quest and we succeeded in finding the perfect place! SweetFire was a find - they provided a wonderful Thanksgiving feast served family style and it was delicious! First they delivered the salad followed by a bread bowl with pumpkin butter and honey. The star of that was the cornbread served in its own skillet with a cloud of butter. Butternut soup followed and it was amazing! The meat platter and sides were next - the sides included mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, collard greens, creamed corn (sweet and decadent) dressing, and green bean casserole. The dessert tray was beautifully presented and each treat spectacular. Our waiter was superb. He helped make our dinner pleasant- as did the whole staff. Everyone greeted us with smiles and "Happy Thanksgiving!" I didn't miss the cooking, but I do love my own Thanksgiving spread, but SweetFire outdid themselves in making someone like me - a girl without a kitchen for the moment, very very happy and full!! They even sent us home with a whole pumpkin pie!! The restaurant is set within the beautiful confines of La Cantera. We were surrounded by amazing views. Went and had lunch during my first day of my stay at the hotel. Not many options onsite to eat and this was the only place open at 1130 on a Tuesday. Atmosphere: Its okay nothing to right home about. They tried to seat us at the very first table in the main aisle as you walk in and asked to be seated elsewhere. We ended up sitting outside on the covered patio. The weather was great so this worked out. Food: **options are very limited for lunch*** We both ended up ordering the avocado toast for lunch, with the prosciutto added. It was okay not very flavorful and the challah bread was so thick it just a bit much. I was starving so I ate it all; my husband didn't eat most of his. Service: Our waitress was nice, no complaints or additional comments to add. All in all, if you are on a time crunch and you can't go off site to eat, fine this would probably do. SweetFire Kitchen is inside the La Cantera Resort & Spa so adjust your expectations for quality and pricing accordingly ($$$). Came here for the Mothers Day brunch buffet with family, $65/pp. I have family members who come here regularly and highly recommend it, but had mixed feelings about our particular visit. FOOD- Large selection from cold bar and charcuterie (oysters, shrimp, lox, cured meats and cheeses with accompaniments) to various chef stations (carving, omelet, pancakes, fruit bowl), and a large dessert bar. Some items were stellar, like the prime rib and macarons, while others were simply better-than-expected quality for a buffet, like the eggs that were actually creamy rather than rubbery. Unfortunately, all oysters were gritty and one was flat-out bad. This is easily the most expensive buffet in town but there were mixed feelings around the table about whether it was worth the price. SERVICE- We had issues checking in for our 1PM reservation, as their system somehow showed that we'd come and gone at 10:30AM. It seems most likely that staff accidentally checked someone in under our reservation with the same first name, but took a while to resolve. Table service was less than attentive with plates piling up without being cleared in a reasonable amount of time (at one point we had five plates stacked up and waiting), while drinks stood empty for over 20 minutes and had to be requested despite staff walking around with pitchers attending exclusively to their own tables. Definitely did not meet expectations for the location, reputation, or price. Perhaps their regular meal service compares more favorably than this special event dining experience, and the regulars in our group did note that service is "usually" better. Probably the best dining option for those staying on site but not necessarily a place I'd recommend personally. read more
