This was my first time at sweetgreen and I had no expectations coming in. We were looking for something healthy to eat and we were able to find this place on Yelp. Coming here, the location was spacious, bright lighting and modern decor with plants everywhere. The food they offer here is not something we usually go out to eat but feeling like not cooking today, we decided to give this a try. So what the food here is that it is mainly fancy salad with warm rice or warm quinoa (if you want). They have Create your own (similar to Chipotle) but there are also bowls that are created by the company (perfect for indecisive people like me). I ordered the Crispy Rice Bowl and although it was a busy time where they were out of a lot of ingredients, they were helpful in informing me as well as letting me substitute items they were out of. The Crispy Rice Bowl tasted great, the sauce however was a bit spicy for me. I would come back here to try the other bowls. They seem to be a popular place. The staff are super friendly and food way better than expected! It was my first time going to sweet green so I was overwhelmed by the amount of options they had. They have the option to Create Your Own bowl which starts at $9.95. Their ingredients are pre made and they just scoop as they make your bowl. Think: Chipotle style! Since I am indecisive, I decided to go with their warm Harvest Bowl. They were low in stock for many of the items (reason why I took off a star). But it could be that I went in on a Monday evening at 7pm. Service was quick and friendly. There was a handful of people lining up for food as we were eating our food. When I asked for my Harvest Bowl, they told me that they ran out of rice so they asked me if I wanted to sub with quinoa instead. I agreed to sub with quinoa but as they were scooping it, I noticed they were scraping the pot for the last bits. The quinoa they scooped for me was only able to fill about a quarter of the spoon. :( They also told me that they ran out of roasted chicken so they asked if I wanted to replace it with blackened chicken. I got a peek at the blackened chicken and it seemed like it was just leftover pieces. So instead, I was able to get salmon to replace the roasted chicken! They were running low on salmon too but to my surprise, it was really hot still when I got it! First bite impressions: the bowl wasn't hot but the balsamic vinaigrette was a good balance of sour, tart, and sweet. The apples that were added in my Harvest Bowl were also a good addition. I had low expectations since it is just a salad after all... but after having tried sweet greens, I have a new perspective towards salads. This is the best salad I have ever had! It was also satiating and didn't leave me hungry afterwards. :) I was sad that my bowl didn't come with rice even when it was supposed to. When they came out with more rice, we asked the staff if it was possible to add rice to our bowls since we didn't get any because they ran out. The staff were all super friendly and they added rice for us! After the addition of rice, my bowl actually became a warm bowl! TIP: if they ran out of something, don't be afraid to approach the staff as they are all super friendly! If I didn't ask for the rice, I would've left unsatisfied. Walked here so didn't have to worry about parking. It's only street parking and it can be hard to find. There are plenty of seats outside and inside. Inside has a very home-y feeling and matches the theme with tons of plants all over. It is quite loud (one of the employees was preparing ingredients and kept banging on something and noticed it drew attention to her. I don't blame her for doing her job but it was pretty loud) inside. I noticed they have outlets all over for people to study or work but not sure how much you can get done if you are sensitive to noise (there was a radio going off playing good music but it was competing with the store speakers that was playing something else). The employees were friendly and made the order quick (and i was very impressed they mixed the salad for me after applying the dressing. That was super helpful cause usually I make a mess not having proper tools like the tongs she used). I ordered the chicken + brussels bowl and it was delicious and filling! The bowl is huge and i loves the ingredients like the cut up apples and sweet potatoes. My husband ordered the miso salmon and the sauce is amazing!! However, it was ridiculous how small the amount of food was given for the price of $16 and considering mine was $14 with a much larger portion. As a semi consistent patron, I'm incredibly torn by continuing to support this business. The past several visits have resulted in incorrect orders, either missing an ingredient or not replacing one as requested. I've even stopped pre-ordering for pickup to help avoid these errors. Most recently I decided to go in-person and order to-go. When I got home and started eating, I realized the dressing was completely missing from my meal. I avoid staring uncomfortably as someone prepares my order, so I'd averted my attention to looking at drinks as they were finishing up. I didn't realize I'd need to pay more attention, even in person. The bread I received was stale as well, which ended up in the compost bin. It's possible there are staffing issues as inattentiveness usually speaks to burnout. But it's becoming more difficult to justify the consistent mistakes I keep encountering, especially when it's a pricey salad with an expected tip payment on top. I've tried to let each incident go assuming it was a one off, but it's now become too common. read more

Was there Sat night at 8:20pm for late stop for a bite. Food was fine. It was relatively quiet due to time of the day but there were steady customers coming in. Such a odd customer service. All the tables were dirty and I asked Employee that all the tables were dirty and she said oh we're gonna close soon so we're gonna clean them all at the end. We are also noticed a napkin dispensers are out and asked for some napkins instead of handing us the napkins she filled a napkin dispenser and had us wait so that we can pull from the dispenser. With that, it's IMPOSSIBLE to reach the restaurant to speak with someone, which is so frustrating. The text messaging option is useless. The app doesn't allow me to order a specific item ingredient on the side, so I thought I'd just omit it and call in to clarify that I just wanted it on the side. Unfortunately reaching a human is impossible and I'm stuck with a delivery that is not how I wanted it. Not sure if anyone reads these reviews...it's so frustrating. I was not disappointed. I got a Kale Caesar Bowl that come with roasted chicken , shaved Parmesan, tomato and kale. I also add blackened chicken for double protein. I asked for light on dressing. Salad was fresh. Both chicken seasoning was good. And good amount of dressing as I expected. You can customize the bowl to suit to your liking. My hubby got Chicken Pesto Parm. He said it was delicious and light. The quinoa had a good texture. It cooked well. It has a refreshing taste because of the lime juice. They squeeze a whole fresh line on it. Ordered a buffalo CHICKEN salad and got just the buffalo salad. Looked at the receipt, it was marked off that they had put chicken in my salad but didn't. There are 2 different receipts that clearly say blackened chicken but the chicken is nowhere to be found. Tried reaching customer service and I've never had such a harder time to get this issue resolved. I traveled a good distance just to come to the Pasadena location because they always make my salads great in terms of portion. I customized my own bowl and I was so happy with how it tasted! I highly recommend topping off with some Parmesan chips on your bowl! I was very excited to find out that they have arugula as one of their salad options, so I got half and half arugula and rice. You can add up to 4 items that's already included in the customized bowl, however, the protein costed extra. Very disappointed with my order. I got the caramelized garlic steak bowl and first of all the bowl is half the size the usual one. I'm not sure when they changed this but I've been to sweet green for years and it's the first time I got the thin bowl, or more like plate... AND the plate was not even half full. It's half the amount of what I've always get. The wild rice was super hard and could not chew and the beef was not fresh. Both were really good! But the chicken + brussels definitely had a lighter flavor with the brussel sprouts being the strongest flavor. After trying the harvest bowl which was really strongly flavored, the chicken + brussels tasted kind of bland. But on its own it was fantastic. The harvest bowl tasted heavily of goat cheese and vinaigrette. Very savory and delicious but a bit much on its own if you were to consume the entire bowl by yourself. We got both tossed with medium dressing. My favorite ingredients were the blackened chicken which was very flavorful and warm even after tossed in the bowl and the sweet potato. Now that we have tried these bowls once, I think there is definitely a lot more different items we would want to try and customizations that we would make next time around. A few years ago, Sweet Green held a small event in hollywood where we got to listen to the history and the ethos of how SG came to be and it was a wonderful experience. All of us went to a farmer's market nearby and picked out fresh produce. We came back to SG with the fresh produce and they showed us how to make their pesto sauce step by step. We also got to keep a bottle of pesto to ourselves and got a signature bowl on the house. When this particular SG opened in Pasadena right next to Urth, I had to go on the first week to get a bowl. It turned out, they were running a promotion for the soft opening and bowls were discounted. This meant the line was out the door and they were running out of some items rapidly. When I got to the front of the line, the staff member was so apologetic because they ran out of the bowl I wanted but she replaced it with a similar bowl. I didn't mind at all because the price was so heavily discounted and all their bowls are equally delicious so I got two bowls. Recently heard about sweetgreen when the pandemic hit and they were giving out free meals to healthcare workers. Unfortunately it seemed that most locations were in the LA area, until this one popped up in Pasadena about a week ago. They were offering free meals during the first few days of soft opening in exchange for giving more opportunity to train the staff. I was sad that I missed that, but knew that I wanted to stop by to give the place a try. Sweetgreen specialized in seasonal, healthy food - all foods are cooked from scratch, and they focus on sustainability, community, and creating a positive impact. It seems like they want the guests to have a specific sweetgreen location that they visit that's in their nearby vicinity. Videos, artwork, and ingredients are aimed to come from local sources. The food is very similar to many other restaurants in the area (think Lemonade, Tender Greens, Urban Plates), but sweetgreen's choices seem to be much healthier with calories reflected as you change the order in the app. I ordered a chicken plate on the app, attempting to customize items and sauces. I wasn't aware that there was a limit on how many ingredients I'm able to swap out. I reached the max and wasn't entirely happy with the order, but after reading reviews from other locations, you can actually start with a custom base and build from there. I was a little disappointed in the proportions of the overall items in the bowl. Since I had the option of choosing different dressings, I went all out but apparently the dressings are packed inside the bowl - which does make sense since they seal the box for freshness. Kind of wish I knew that beforehand because my box was pretty much half empty after removing the dressings. Was also not a fan of the the beets. They left my mouth feeling very bitter and dry; the beets overpowered the amount of kale-cabbage slaw that was in the bowl. The cauliflower rice - also not very tasty. I think I expected the rice to taste similar to cauliflower, but the flavor of the rice tasted like burnt mushroom. The only thing that I enjoyed was the chicken and the sauces. Interior is very spaced out and roomy with an open kitchen as well as tables for dine-in guests. There's signs all around for social distancing. Workers are friendly. Designated spaces for pick-up orders. tl;dr - Food was just okay for me after ordering on the app. I think I wasn't aware enough of the concept and ended up making a few mistakes (overadding sauces and choosing ingredients that I probably will not order again). Price is on the higher end - I would say around $14 for a plate and if you want to customize for premium ingredients, you have to pay a lot more. Will return one day, but will build my own bowl. Came back to try to take advantage of the $5 promo, but ran into so many mishaps and unfortunately everything was sold out super early. Hopefully things pick back up. read more
