really just o.k.... i'm sure that its location itself will keep their doors open. atmosphere and service i'll give 5 stars. i really do miss dutch and doc's though... the upstairs open air seating with a wrigley field view really can't be beat. honestly though, the food is really just 'meh'. my kid had his first oyster -- and the happy hour oyster and kids eat free specials make this place a gem in the area. if i paid $10 each for the kids meals though i would not be a happy camper. although a good amount of food - broccoli, mashed potatoes AND a (sprinkle chocolate chip) cookie all come with the meal, it's still not worth more than 5 bucks. the mashed potatoes looked like they came from a box and the pasta with red sauce...well, nothing much to that. my panzanella salad was actually dressed really nicely but for the price, it was awfully small. my husband got the po'boy which looked so dryly sad... the spinach and artichoke dip needed salt but happy that proceeds of that purchase go to the greater food depository. go here to force (i mean 'encourage') your kid to an an oyster and get a free shirt...go for a pre-game beverage...maybe nosh on some artichoke dip... but maybe fill up on food somewhere else. read more

I ordered delivery through Caviar. The Steak and Provolone Dip was kind of acceptable, but at $17.75 even with fries included it just didn't live up to the price or expectations. It's probably worth about $10. My side order of broccoli arrived tough, I don't even know if it was cooked. The amount of bearnaise sauce given was laughable, but in some ways that's ok because it sucked anyway. On top of it all, the cups of au jus, even when wrapped in plastic, spilled all over the paper bag the food came in and even leaked into the container the broccoli was in somehow. I don't know if this in specific was the fault of the restaurant or the driver who delivered the order. I am thinking it was the driver driving/turning too fast. What upset me as well was the paper bag the food came in wasn't stapled shut which especially with the pandemic going on, should be standard to be secured. My experience is probably 50/50 driver/restaurant failure. I gave this place a try and I am not in a rush to give it another try. read more

The only reason this isn't 5 stars is due to the extremely slow service. The food was excellent. The Brussels sprouts, French onion soup and Italian beef was amazing. Food took a long time to come out and even waiting for our checks took forever. Good food and atmosphere. read more

After arriving at our daughter's place late in the evening we walked over to the Wrigley Field area to grab a bite to eat and drink some beer. We stopped by a few places to check the menus and ended up here. We ordered fried green tomato sandwich with asparagus, steak salad & a side of broccoli. So I have this place 4 stars because the ductwork dripped condensation on us while we had dinner. It's not that hard to fix. Just wrap the ductwork with insulation. But instead they just deal with it. Also the from door was propped open on a humid day which could be the problem as well. Now ther then that we had a great experience. The waitress was nice. The oysters were great and they had $4 pints so what else can you ask for. We did not get there for happy hour but I saw they have $1.50 Oysters 4-6 on weekends. Dined at Swift and Sons twice and both were wonderful experiences. Covid friendly and cognizant while still preserving spectacular views of Wrigley. I went with my dad and boyfriend the first time and then with my boyfriend and his family. With my dad it was a strict oyster fest. My dad really enjoyed the grilled oysters while I prefer and enjoyed the straight-from-the-ocean-in-the-shell oyster. Surprisingly the dollar oysters were the best all around from flavor to meatiness. The small $3 the name of which I can't remember one was the most delicious. Had one mixed drink with my dad before switching to beer and it was STRONG [good thing ;)]. Second time with boyfriend and family we feasted all around! Rounds of oysters and we all ordered a main meal. Honestly only reason I'm not giving a five star review may be due to my poor choice of order with the fish and chips, but my thought was if this exceptional a five star shall be given. We stopped by Swift and Sons for dinner last night on a whim while walking around wrigleyville. They were able to seat us outside right away. I saw that there had been some complaints about the service, but the service we had was some of the best I've had in 6 years of eating in Chicago restaurants. Our drinks and appetizers came out quickly and were great (highly recommend the Bees Knees and Paloma cocktails). The kitchen got a little backed up while we were waiting for our entrees (they were busy-- a great problem to have during covid!), but our server Joel explained the situation and made sure we would be fine waiting a bit longer. It was worth the wait-- the cheeseburger and French dip sandwiches we ordered were out of this world, as was the chili crunch broccoli. Joel was a great server and really made our meal fun. He was super friendly and gave great recommendations for drinks and dessert. We will be back soon, probably for brunch next time! read more

We stopped during a Cubs game and sat in the bar. Not crowded at all. Maybe 1/4 of bar seats taken. Our bartender was friendly enough but after the 3 mistakes we were sort of done. Ask for napkins, ask for water, ask for food we'd ordered, ask for drinks...he kept saying "yes" but - literally- not delivering. I don't usually write reviews about service because I am more focused on the food. This experience is an exception. I will say we have dined here in the past and always had a positive experience. Today was horrible and I doubt seriously we will return. Today we were celebrating three birthdays, including my 80 year old mother in law. Because today was my choice on where to go, I wanted to go for oysters and champagne. Normally that would be Swift & Sons in my mind. We were seated by a super nice guy (who is also celebrating his birthday this week) upstairs in their dining room. The bars up and down were packed because the cubs game was cancelled due to rain. We were literally the only ones seated in the upstairs dining room. Our waiter John finally appeared and we weren't quite ready. We told him we were celebrating birthdays. He asked who's birthday it was and we said it was all of our birthdays this week. He said nothing and left and didn't return for way too long. When he returned we gave him our order of a dozen oysters and a shrimp cocktail. He brought my glass of champagne and someone else brought our dozen oysters and my MIL her shrimp cocktail. The oysters weren't separated from the shell as usual (I've been here many times for oysters). When we again saw John he was seating a single woman near us. He then brought her a huge glass of the same rose champagne I ordered but was twice as full as my glass then he sat down with her. For a long time. Much longer than he spent worrying if we were ok or if we needed anything else. When he finally did come back my MIL asked for him to bring her the bill. It was $58 and she gave him $70 cash. He asked if she needed change (wait staff should never ask if you need change!) and she said yes. He took it and never came back so we left. I guess he decided he deserved that 20% tip which he did not. We live near Wrigley Field. We often go out for drinks with friends and neighbors. We used to add Swift & Sons into that rotation. Not any more. I will also be sharing my experience with other neighbors. Do yourself a favor. Mordecai is the spot for good oysters and cocktails and especially good service with friendly staff. read more

I've been to swift and sons about three times and have always loved the food! Especially the steak frites and mashed potatoes. Unfortunately this time it seemed very bland and most of the food came out burnt, not sure if they have changed cooks but it definitely wasn't worth the money. Had to send back a plate. A little disappointed in food quality and might not be worth the fifth visit. The service was good though! Always has been which is nice but just the food was a flop. Sorry swift and sons! read more

My friends and I made a reservation a couple of days prior for a party of 8. We were excited to try the oyster bar during happy hour which was $1.50 each from 4pm-6pm. As soon as we entered the bar, around 10 staff members were looking at us up and down. It definitely seemed like they were judging us by our appearance. We were dressed somewhat casually, however, it seemed like everyone who was walking in was wearing similar clothing so that didn't seem like an issue. The hostess came and took our order but gave us dirty looks as we were telling her what we wanted. We ordered about 5 trays of oysters throughout our dine-in experience and the hostess even took one of our trays away before we were finished! There was only one other table on the floor and she never came around to ask how we were doing or if we wanted anything else. She even ignored us for an hour before we were able to get our check! At this time, we wanted to order another tray of oysters but we felt that she didn't want to come by our table ON PURPOSE because she didn't want us to order more oysters within happy hour anymore. I believe the treatment was racially motivated as we did not look like the typical people walking in though we were wearing the same dresses, khakis, and polo shirts as everyone else. Everyone(staffers) seemed like they were batting their eyes at us the whole time we were seated. I'm not sure what the issue was, but she definitely could have at least hid her expressions and fixed her face whenever she came near our table. SO RUDE. The food was impeccable. Our char-grilled oysters were a trip down memory lane straight to New Orleans and the heirloom tomato salad was fresh and seasonal, excellent flavors. For our entree course we got the Trout with olives and arugula as well as a Ribeye with a side of Mac and cheese. Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned. It's hard for hospitality to be excellent in the time of coronavirus, everything has an added layer of distance and the new mask rules make it even more difficult. However, our server did an excellent job of making us feel welcome and at home while following all of the covid-19 rules. Not an easy task. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Wrigleyville! read more

My boyfriend and I visited Swift and Sons Tavern on 3/7, one day after they had opened. We live super close to the new Swift and Sons, and we're exciting because we have always received exceptional service and food at other Boka Restaurant Group restaurants. We arrived before 5pm, were greeted by the host and decided to sit at the bar. The restaurant and bar is absolutely beautiful. There were about 20 patrons scattered around the restaurant, with lots of staff present all over the restaurant. We sat at the bar and were greeting after a few minutes, given water and brought back menus. We decided on our drinks and food, and then sat for 10+ minutes without a word from any of the staff around the small bar - 3 bartenders, a manager, 2 oyster shuckers all stood behind the bar and never came to take our order or to check and see if we had been helped, etc. On top of that, the manager stood at the service station about 3 feet away, chatting with bartenders about shift change, facing our direction, and never once checked in with us or his staff to see why we hadn't been helped. We looked around for quite some time hoping someone would approach after walking past us numerous times, but no one ever approached us. We finally decided to leave (we did not want to - the cocktail list and food menu looked amazing!!) and told the hostess on the way out that we were leaving due to not being helped for 10+ minutes. The hosts were very kind and assured us that they would let their manager know and told us how sorry they were. Overall as people who are major foodies and having personally having worked in the service industry in Chicago, we understand the kinks that must be worked out at new restaurant. But, as a Boka Group Restaurant we were let down that the simplest of service, making sure SOMEONE spoke to us and took an order of any sort, is something they missed. We would like to return to give it another try due to the ambience and menu, but overall we left very disappointed on our first visit. We hope Swift and Sons Tavern does better in the future, otherwise expect to be very disappointed with their service given what we received on a very calm night vs. a busy game day, etc they will experience in the future. read more

I didn't expect this to be the same as the original restaurant, but this fell significantly below my expectations. We live in the area and decided to do a last minute date night. The room they took us to upstairs was noticeably warmer than downstairs, and the table they sat us at was directly under a vent, and very uncomfortable. I wanted to order the chicken entrée, but they were out. On a Friday night, the start of the weekend?! Especially for having a limited menu, there weren't many more options to choose from. The cocktails were decent, oysters too, and for dinner, we got the steak, Frites, steak salad, and a side of brussels sprouts. The Frites were cold, the steak, and the salad was extra chewy (but the salad itself was pretty good). The service in general was super slow. Not only until we were finishing up and nibbling at our last bites. Did our waitress come by and asked us every five minutes if we were still doing OK.Do NOT get the tiramisu. It came out immediately on a cold plate, and we had to figure out what was going on because the flat 3x3 inch square didn't resemble tiramisu. About 30% of what was there was the cake/Ladyfinger part, the rest was an overly sweetened cream covered with cocoa powder. If you want a better tiramisu, go down to Sapori, Trattoria or PR bistro. We also ordered decaf coffees, which took FOREVER to come out, and when they finally did our waitress didn't even ask if we wanted any cream or sugar. Great first experience with the family. The "dresses" oysters tasted like something from Leña Brava. The Amish fried chicken was tasty and very crispy. The crispy shrimp were great, devoured in under two minute. Our server was extremely friendly and attentive, despite working long hours. And they have a great kids eat free option for those of you with kids (including a sugar cookie with sprinkles). We're looking forward to coming back! read more

I went to this place with my fiancé for dinner and we will definitely be back. We got the crispy rock shrimp as an appetizer followed by the tavern burger and NY Strip for entrees. ADDED FEES ON YOUR BILL!! please check your bill before leaving. We had an early evening dinner there for a friends bday. We brought in a 6in cake from Sweet Mandy B's. They said there was a cake cutting fee, fine I get it. But when the bill came they charged a $45 fee for cutting the cake! that's right $45! more than what the cake cost, $5 per slice... no absolutely inappropriate. Then there is an extra $23 hospitality fee, when we inquired about that turns out it's a fee to help cover health insurance for employees.... what?!! never heard of this and isn't the 20% gratuity on the $805 bill going to the employees but now you want to secretly add a health coverage fee?? I pay my own health insurance and it's not my job to pay extra for that on a bill! COMPLETELY unacceptable. We spoke with manager and got it refunded after sone time of her telling us it was Boka's policy, but all I will say is never again. Just lost 8 customers in one setting plus the many more people I tell. Shame on you Swift and Sons. It's not ok to take advantage of your customers. read more
