Came here for dinner tonight with a friend for a special occasion and I must say that I had a really great experience so I'm quite surprised with the negative reviews here. We made our reservations through Opentable and it was really quick and easy, I requested an outdoor seating coz I thought they had outdoor seating based on the pictures that I saw but, the hostess was nice enough to give me a call and heads up and offered to seat us next to an open window few hours before our reservation so from then I was already impressed. With the state being on Phase 4 and with what's going on right now I'm a little bit careful and more observant of what they do regarding the health and safety of employees and patrons. Walked in was greeted by the hostess and checked us in but before we were seated they checked our temperature and offered hand sanitizers and they were all wearing a mask which was a plus and they sat us next to an open window so I really appreciated that. For drinks I ordered the Boozy Arnold Palmer which was so delicious while my friend got a beer. We were greeted by our server Benjamin who was very friendly and super attentive and patient with us, we all talked about how Wrigleyville was before and how it's changed and where things used to be. Really nice guy! Our dinner started with the grilled summer squash for appetizer it has hazelnuts, Calabrian Chile's and feta cheese, it was delicious although it was a little bit spicy for my taste though but it was good beautifully and tasty. They have a good selection of oysters and the scallop ceviche sounded interesting to me may try that next time. Main course I had Steak Sandwich with fries and my friend got the Shrimp Po Boy both sandwiches comes with coleslaw and pickles. Oh man the sandwich was really good, the steak cooked perfectly and I must say it was huge and filling! I can't have shrimp so I wouldn't know how the shrimp tasted but my friend finished the whole thing and he said it was good I'll take his word for it. The fries were crispy and cooked beautifully too. Overall it was a really good meal I was stuffed. We ended our mean with great desserts. I ordered the Oreo Cheesecake Mousse while my friend ordered the Berry Cobbler Sundae and they both tasted delicious. Overall the meal was pretty decent and great and the price wasn't so expensive really. I really like the decor of the restaurant it reminds me of some restaurants on the East Coast/Hamptons. I do like that it's literally right off Wrigley field so it's a good restaurant that you can go before or after watching the game. I'm not so sure with the negative reviews but we had a good experience, from making the reservations, the meal, the experience and the service it was great. I'm sure the restaurant still has some improvements considering the whole strip in Wrigleyville has changed, especially with what's going on right now I'm sure they're just adjusting to the changes. Was pleasantly surprised by s & s tavern. Usually when a great restaurant like Swift & Sons opens a second location, the new spot loses the quality in the food and the service and just banks on name recognition. Not the case here. The menu was a bit different (lots of the same items, just smaller) because it's a more casual vibe, but the food & service was fantastic regardless. We were not planning on ordering the roasted oysters but they ended up being our favorite thing. The fried chicken was done perfectly, and I highly recommend the Mac & cheese. It was my first time trying out this restaurant and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed my time there. The host was pleasant and didn't make me feel unwelcome, which unfortunately happens at some Chicago restaurants in popular areas. The waitstaff was courteous, professional yet personable as they explained the menu options in great detail. The cocktails were tasty but they also offer standard drinks that weren't listed on the menu if you don't see anything that you like. The food was really good. You can tell they take time to prepare everything properly. In short, this location got five stars from me. We just celebrated Father's Day and my husband's birthday here and it was perfect. Reservation was quick and easy through Tock. I emailed them to let them know that I wanted to surprise my husband with Key Lime Pie. They emailed me back that they just took it off the menu because it was no longer in season; HOWEVER, they would make him a special one and gave me the option to get a whole pie with a special message on it. I was so excited! The day of we arrived a little early. We were greeted by the hostess and and there was a huge jug of hand sanitizer we took advantage of. We were seated on the second floor and had a great view of the Wrigley Field marquee. My husband got the frozen cucumber margarita and I had a sip. It was refreshing. I opted to go non-alcoholic with an Arnold Palmer (they do have a bossy version available). We started with the Crispy Rock Shrimp (our favorite appetizers at the original Swift & Sons) and for the main course I had the Hangar Steak Frites and he had the Petite Filet Steak Frites. Our steak was cooked to our liking and the frites were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. My pre-ordered dessert finally came and it was perfect! My husband was surprised and he was very happy. They brought the whole pie with a candle and after he blew the candle, they brought it back to cut us a piece and then cut and box the rest. I do not recommend this restaurant. First off, we waited about 20 mins after being seated, to be served, and because of this we ordered everything at once in case our server didn't come back. I ordered the Filet Steak and, for $54 with no other sides coming with it (literally just a steak on a plate-8oz) not worth $54. I ordered the steak medium, and the middle of the steak (a good 2-3" of meat) was completely raw and inedible. The server was clearly new and not the most welcoming person, kind of hurried us along. Stopped in here for a quick dinner during a Cubs game. Lucky for us, everyone else was at the Cubs game and we were able to get a great table on the 2nd floor. The undisclosed surcharge for "benefits" was an imperfect end to a bland, overpriced Father's Day meal. The muggy restaurant was understaffed. The limited menu (caveat emptor) is what is. Three weeks ago, my wife and I dined here. It was very good. This time, having praised this newly named restaurant to our friends, we brought our daughter. Let me start by taking back the kudos. Three weeks changed everything. This time, from start to finish: it was sub par for the neighborhood; and the neighborhood is the ball park and McDonald's. You would have to go to Lake Michigan to lower the bar any more. The restaurant is a very nice looking restaurant that has had many names and concepts in the past few years. Rightfully so. We thought we had a winner until our Father's Day return. The place is understaffed, hence even a drink order takes a long time. (Please don't blame understaffing on covid.) The overpriced oysters are a treasure hunt. Under the blanket of cheese you may find an oyster or, if your luck holds, a pearl. Let me repeat, three weeks ago the oysters like everything else were quite good. For dinner, I ordered the shrimp po' boy. There were plenty of room temperature shrimp and plenty of shredded lettuce. The shrimp were fresh from under warming lights. The flavorless roll was a few minutes away from being a giant crouton ... very, very dry. There was simply no other flavor. It was the poorest of po' boy sandwiches. It was so poor that the shredded lettuce was the highlight of the sandwich. The sandwich was accompanied by French fries. The fries had obviously also been "warmed." The side of ketchup alone brightened the dullest of sandwiches. All three of us had fries with our meals. (Last time we were here the fries were excellent.) There was no proffered choice of sides. All three of us left most of the room-temperature fries on the plate. Few restaurants can't even get the fries right. So this restaurant is unique. We were never interrupted with questions such as "can we get you anything else" until ironically I asked for the check. I looked at the check that comes with a "explanation-card" tucked under the paperwork. There was a previously undisclosed "benefits" charge. Notice to management: "benefits" are part of your overhead. You can't just add your costs when you like. Benefits today, rent tomorrow. There is a reason that this restaurant keeps changing its name. This is a concept restaurant with no concept of food preparation. read more

I came here after the Cubs game on 5 September. I had a reservation for one. they attempted to seat me at the bar (no), then sat me at a table facing the kitchen door with no view of the TV. Waiter showed up 2x - order and check - and I could see him being chatty and fun with the other tables. They automatically added 20% tip and 3% fees. Sigh. The restaurant wasn't busy (many empty seats). The food was ok. I would be willing to not leave a review except I could see other patrons being treated to friendly service. Swift & Son's is one of Wrigley's hidden gems! Even tho it's not hidden at all...sitting right outside the Marquee of Wrigley Field. We typically come here during cubs games...they offer $1.50 oysters from first pitch to last pitch of every home game... GREAT deal. The steak salad was amazing! Decent sized steak and extremely fresh vegetables- I ate the entire thing. You can't go wrong with the Dominican Daiquiri, so refreshing making it the perfect drink on a hot summer day. My friend has season tickets for the Cubs and he invited me to go play some football at Wrigley field as it was a special event for season ticket holders the day after the Purdue/Northwestern football game. We stopped by Swift and Sons Tavern afterwards to watch the Bears game as they were able to seat us at the bar immediately around 11:45am. It was a very cool ambience! Very light and modern with lots of windows to let in the natural sunlight. Definitely more casual than their steakhouse in the West Loop. We ordered some oysters to start and I had a Bloody Mary. The Bloody Mary was solid and it had a sidekick beer. We had the MA oyster, which was a little meh. It had decent flavor and it was salty, but it was way too big texture-wise where it was tough to get down. It was also somewhat tough to chew so it wasn't very appetizing. The VA oyster was a lot better as it was easy to shoot and it was very flavorful! It was on the sweeter side. The oysters here were a lot better than the ones I had at their West Loop location as they actually had brine this time around. I ordered the burger as it sounded good. It was very solid as it hit the spot and above average! On my burger ratings scale I rated it a 6.67, which is a decent rating. The bun was super soft. The toppings were rich as the cheese and 1000 island sauce were very good. It was a very meaty patty, which is expected since it's a steakhouse. The fries were very meh though. The best part was definitely the service! Our bartender was great and I love when they are on top of refilling water. Because that means that I can hydrate and I can drink more so it's a smart business move on their part! Alcohol prices were a little expensive for the gentrifying Wrigleyville ($8 for a craft beer), but entree prices were actually pretty average especially for a good portion size. But it is what it is. For not having as extensive and indulgent a menu as the Swift & Sons in the West Loop, the quality of Swift & Sons Tavern is on par with other restaurants from the Boka Restaurant Group. Before I elaborate on the dining experience I'll share the COVID process at this restaurant as I experienced it: COVID-19 precautions: -Swift & Sons did an exceptional job of taking as many of the safety precautions as they possibly could have. -Non-contact temperature check on the wrist at the front door. -All staff members wore masks. -All possible windows and 2nd-floor patio were all wide open. -Tables and booths are all distanced from each other. -There were plenty of bottles of sanitizer throughout the restaurant that customers had access to. Now for the dining experience! My partner and I recently went to Swift & Sons on a Friday evening at around 4pm. We were seated on the second-floor terrace, which I strongly recommend since there is plenty of natural air flowing through there. It's a partial balcony, really. The room was about a quarter full at that time, which made dining there feel even more relaxed than it probably would have been had COVID-19 not happened. The interior design had a lovely paradoxical futuristic shabby-chic vintage design to it. Light, modern, and airy. The happy hour was great. We took full advantage of it. They had a great Argentinian Malbec by the name of Tintonegro which I consumed while my partner had a generously sized icy-watery $6 Paloma cocktail. We had the half dozen charbroiled oysters appetizer which was fantastic and tasted as if it was cooked over wood. I would compare it to the sort of charbroiled oysters one could experience in New Orleans or the Southern United States in general. Mild, with a hint of spice, garlic, butter, spring onions, and lemon juice. Their simplicity made them superb. They were not overseasoned but were fresh and had a great outdoor taste to them. For the main course, I ordered the Hanger Steak (medium) with fries. My partner ordered the Veggie Hoggie, which according to her, was perfectly satisfactory. Having already known that hanger steak is in my opinion, not the best cut of the beef, I thought this particular hanger steak was cooked as close to perfection as it could have been. A blackish rusty char on the outside while being pinkish at the very center. It was served with a mild horseradish sauce and a gamey, sweet, oniony brown streak sauce. The fries were also perfectly crunchy while not being too oily. Delicious, but for me honestly, what made it most divine and pleasant a dining experience was the value of the overall meal. We paid $86 for A steak dinner, with two glasses of Argentine red wine, a veggie sandwich, a cocktail, and charbroiled oysters, along with a 3% COVID Health Care charge for their staff. Big bar with many liquor bottles. Order two cocktails and baked oysters. Watched the bartender make the cocktails. One was a tap cocktail and the other was premixed and poured from a bar rack bottle. The one had so much loose ice it had very little liquid and hard to drink from the straw. Commented to bartender I was surprised they were not a mixed cocktail. I was told that if I asked she would have told me they were tap cocktails. Then I was told this is Wrigleyville. Not sure what that means but my interpretation is that they are structured for big crowds and fast service. No time to make cocktails. The cocktails were good. When got the bill there was an extra charge for employee benefits. The employer is responsible for employee benefits not me. Put it in your prices. I ordered delivery through Caviar. The Steak and Provolone Dip was kind of acceptable, but at $17.75 even with fries included it just didn't live up to the price or expectations. It's probably worth about $10. My side order of broccoli arrived tough, I don't even know if it was cooked. The amount of bearnaise sauce given was laughable, but in some ways that's ok because it sucked anyway. On top of it all, the cups of au jus, even when wrapped in plastic, spilled all over the paper bag the food came in and even leaked into the container the broccoli was in somehow. I don't know if this in specific was the fault of the restaurant or the driver who delivered the order. I am thinking it was the driver driving/turning too fast. What upset me as well was the paper bag the food came in wasn't stapled shut which especially with the pandemic going on, should be standard to be secured. My experience is probably 50/50 driver/restaurant failure. I gave this place a try and I am not in a rush to give it another try. read more
