Came here to study for a little bit while on vacay (med student life), and found this place to be a good fit. We've been coming here for over a year and it just keeps getting better. It's my morning coffee place on the way to work and some days they've got my cup ready before I walk in the door! I can't speak to the espresso machine drinks but people seem to like them. I prefer the pour-overs personally. The food menu has had a major overhaul and I think it's better than before but I do miss the basic avocado toast with sirracha honey. The new version of it is pretty dang good though! With spring here the patio is a great place to hangout. They should be having their artist/craft patio events soon so make sure you visit on those days too. Keep it up guys! read more

First of all, this is my neighborhood spot and I love it. The beautiful plants and new open floor plan, well roasted coffee, extremely kind and welcoming staff... just love it. So why, you may ask, would I leave so few stars? Because of details.... And thermodynamics. And to get someone's attention. Two specific details that I think can be easily fixed but haven't in the two years I have been walking in with a smile and dropping subtle hints. This is true no matter who is the barista, or who is doing food prep--which is why I think it needs to be a proprietor-level issue: the coffee is always cold (milky espresso drinks specifically) and the toast is always barely toasted (also nothing has enough salt-but let's not pile on). Oh yeah: These are absolutely first world problems. I'm aware that it is a minor miracle and huge privilege to eat some tropical fruit smeared on a local sourdough with an egg on top in the middle of winter. But every time I, trying to fix the issue myself, ask for "extra hot" coffee and it comes out as 'normal cafe hot' half the time and the rest of the time just as cold as the Switchback usual, i suspect there is a law of physics at play. Maybe the milk or coffee is made in batch and just sits too long or you have some foam rule that brings it down but whatever the cause, the effect is a $5 cup of meh. The toast thing is just a matter of having enough capacity in the old toaster I would guess but yeah, toast should be brown(ish). I feel like you guys could be perfect, but as a friend and neighbor, it might be time to relook those temps and times. Thanks for reading! read more

We went here twice during our brief stay in Colorado Springs. The first time we walked from our b&B here. Lovely walk, and the coffee was pretty good. From the great beans that are brewed perfectly, to the subtle yet divine hint of lavender, this latte converted me into the fifty fifty cult. I love to stop by for brunch, their avocado toast with sriracha honey drizzle is spectacular. They are pet friendly, vegan friendly and gluten free friendly - so basically, just friendly. Such a nice hipster spot for your morning coffee or breakfast cravings! Staff was incredibly friendly, but it was a bit confusing that I was given an order card despite ordering to-go. Very cozy coffee house near the center of town. They have street parking, but this is not a busy area, so parking is a breeze and no coins are needed :D They don't have any signage, so just to take a look at the images I posted, for hints of what the building looks like. I love the feeling of this place and the staff was nice. Even on a week morning they were very busy, so I expect they have a large group of followers. First things first: SwitchBack does mainly roasting--you can have their coffee served NEXT DOOR at Fifty Fifty. The same guys owns both. Speaking of, I met Brandon the owner because I walked over from Fifty Fifty. He's a great guy, extremely personable, and loves coffee. I gave Fifty Fifty a great review before I met and spoke with Brandon because the place has great coffee and service. It's not hard to see why now. Brandon also gave me his recommendations for other coffee places he loves in other areas when I told him I was traveling. Heather, another roaster, was there and was extremely friendly and helpful as well. If you want great coffee, go to Fifty Fifty next door. We were seriously disappointed in this place, which for me, is super rare where local coffee shops are concerned. To their credit, dogs are welcome, there is great seating inside and out, the staff was mostly friendly and helpful. However, The menu is very limited, our eggs were improperly cooked, the order confused / wrong, and they were out of sausage - one of only two meat options they offer. The waitress acted like she didn't understand why it mattered that the order was wrong - almost like it was close enough so it was good (and then she went back and tried to blame the mistake on the order taker. We ordered one over medium fried egg as a side for my French toast(which WAS good) and two over easy for my husband with a side of ham. What we got was three eggs - two over hard, and one over medium, all plated together. We had to wait an additional 10 min for the ham, which was a sparse serving of thin shavings, very fatty and a tad over done. The coffee was okay. Nothing special. The place was busy with many other people seemingly enjoying themselves and I know every place has off days and makes mistakes, but as our first experience here, there was nothing that would ever bring us back for a second go. read more

The Good: I really enjoyed the amount of greenery they had in the space. A really good place to sit and do some work. Also alot of space so you are likely to get a seat. The baristas were friendly and smiled at you when you walked in. Overall good vibes! The meh: My iced coffee creation was not anything special. A little pricey and without wow factor. My wife's mocha started at a temperature that you expect on the last few sips. The chocolate left the mocha grainy. She did not finish it and I didn't offer to help after one sip. I remember cupping a Switchback peru a couple months back and it being not as favorable as the other roasters Perus we were blind taste testing. They will happily explain things for you if you need any help. The food and snacks are great. They have baked goods from The Old School Bakery which you can never go wrong with, and tastes treats. I've only been twice but I have enjoyed myself each time. A great cappuccino and latte that will easily make you wonder why starbucks is on almost every corner.
