    Chicken fried steak
    Lora A.

Came here Fathers Day for breakfast. Food was wonderful. Fresh, tasty, and served hot. Hash browns were perfectly crispy, eggs just how I ordered, chicken fried steak was huge, right amount of breading and nice and crispy. Coffee was wonderful. Love the farm to table concept to make all the traditional comfort food we love. They were busy because of the holiday, but it did not impact their amazing service. Nathan was great. Restaurant is simple and very clean. They have designed the space to fit as many people as possible without feeling cramped. I highly recommend this place. Looking forward to trying lunch and dinner.

Finally made it by this neighborhood spot in Mesa. Where they serve fresh quality food out of their scratch kitchen. This one took me right back to my old neighborhood. I grew up in. The service was great. The dining room is spacious and open. Food portions are generous for the cost that you're paying. I went with the chicken fried chicken and that was by far the best chicken fried chicken I have had in a long time. It's crispy, seasoned well, the chicken breast is still nice and juicy. The eggs were fluffy, the hashbrowns were crispy and it's served with a side of the most delicious buttery buttermilk pancakes. You don't want to skip out on this one. I also tried the burger plate. Again, generous size, the patty was nice and juicy, but it just didn't hold as much flavor as the chicken fried chicken.

I had such a great experience at Syrup & Salt! It's such a cute, family-style spot with a warm and welcoming vibe. Even on Easter Sunday after church, it wasn't too crowded and we were able to get a table right away, which I really appreciated. Our server was amazing! very attentive, friendly, and he made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. The service really elevated the whole experience. I ordered the lamb chops egg breakfast with hashbrowns, apple cinnamon pancakes, and chicken sausage, and my niece got the cookie butter waffle with a side of beef bacon. Everything was delicious! The lamb chops were especially tender and cooked really well. I do wish they had just a little more seasoning, but they were still very enjoyable overall. Also definitely get their flavored tea! So good and a perfect addition to the meal. As someone with a pork allergy, I really appreciate that they are halal-certified. It makes dining out so much easier and stress-free, and I hope more restaurants like this continue to pop up around the Valley. And thank you for turning my niece into a beef bacon addict just like me We had a great time and will definitely be back, next time for dinner!

My family came on a Sunday morning around 11ish, it was a one hour wait and I can say the wait was worth it. Food came out fairly quick, server was attentive and helpful, and food was good. Nothing too special but it was good. Chicken sausage I've never had which actually tasted better than the beef bacon in my opinion. We will visit again in the near future!

1st timer like most of the people since it opened up like 3 months. It's halal which I didn't understand what that meant, now I do nothing to do with Pork. Beef bacon never had it. I ordered chicken fried steak with gravy on a 1-5 rating I'd give it a 2 the meat had gristle running through it otherwise it was tender. The breading fell off as soon as you cut it. Scrambled eggs were over cooked and cold when it was served. Country potatoes were good. Coffee was good. It was very loud in their echoey gonna wear earplugs next time. Service was OK coffee cup was empty two or three times before I flagged someone down to get more that could improve, but they were really busy but that should make a difference. I'll bring a friend next time to see what he thinks Two pictures the one didn't have much gravy so I asked for more

You can get pancakes for dinner! French toast at any time! And everything is halal! Ok, you got me. Yes, I'd been meaning to try this place for a hot minute. Then it went viral and I was like "Oh man! YES! I do need to try this place!" Tried once and was really happy to see how busy it was. Happily came back at an off time and was able to get a table. And MAN! Am I glad I did! Service was amazing, fast and friendly. But the food...the food was what made me a repeat customer! I had the Philly cheesesteak and fries. My dad had the gyro and a side salad. Portions were generous. And the food was delicious! Crispy, hot, fresh fries. Crisp lettuce, crunchy cucumbers, salad. And our sandwiches were perfection. Coming back for sure to try the pancake tacos!

I think that maybe on a less busy day our experience would have been better... we were told a 20-30 minute wait and ended up waiting an hour at least. I know new businesses can have some disorganization at first, so take this experience with a grain of salt. I ordered a pancake, bacon, and egg breakfast with the pancakes substituted for chocolate chips. It was ok, lots of chocolate syrup on it kind of was too much but still good. It took a while to get our food but they were busy. Our food wasn't warm when we got it though so that was disappointing. The service was kind of spotty but nice for the most part. I will say, I was asked if I was done with one of my plates, and I said yes so she took it but then she went behind me and grabbed my other pancake and was gone before I could even say anything. I was a little sad as it was 4$ extra to get this substituted pancake and I was going to get a box but never got the chance... it was pricy. I hope as things move along they can work out the little kinks that make it difficult at the beginning of an opening because I think it has some potential with the idea of everything being halal.

This was so good! The food was so fresh and warm. This was a great place for breakfast, especially if you're on a halal aware diet. I truly loved the fact there was no pork and more authentic ingredients. It was really good. The service was awesome! And place was clean and being watched by the owners. I loved the marvel movies being played on the screens. That was such a great time. Coffee was not the best but it was still good. Definitely a must try!

I can't say enough good things about this spot. It's rare to find a Halal breakfast place open all day that treats every dish with this much care. We started with the beef bacon, which was cooked to perfection--excellent flavor and texture. If you have a sweet tooth, the cookie butter pancakes are an absolute must; they were awesome. But the real curveball was the burger. I honestly think it was one of the best burgers I've ever had--I'm still thinking about how good it was! You can really taste the difference when everything is made from scratch. The owner even came over to share the story of the restaurant, which made the experience feel so personal. Outstanding service and even better food. 10/10.

Syrup and Salt was delicious. It was a new experience for us to mix things up. I had a hot chocolate Yogurt parfait and Eggs Benedict and strawberry pancakes which I shared of course. Tasty. The ambiance is open floor plan and loud. However the food and service were excellent.

Heard about this new halal restaurant and wanted to try it out. We came here on Sunday afternoon between lunch and dinner and there weren't too many people dining at that time. Our waiter seated us against the wall, which I like, and gave us our menus. I knew what I wanted since I had looked at the menu beforehand, but still went through it to make sure. We all got waters and put in our orders. I got their jalapeño burger with fries, and my companions ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich and the chicken mushroom crepes. Our food did take some time to come out but that's personally not an issue for me. My burger was a good size and had lots of jalapeños on it, hence the name. The peppers were spicy, too! I made use of the salt and ketchup at the table to add to my meal. I don't think I'd tried beef bacon before and it was good, smelled similar to the pork version and tasted fatty and flavorful. The fries were tasty as well, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I tried the chicken sandwich and crepe, the buffalo sauce was strong which I liked and the crepe was light. Our server was friendly and checked in on us, as well as the manager/owner. I'd love to come back earlier in the day for their breakfast dishes! So many options to choose from on their menu - most everyone is bound to find something they like (not many vegan dishes). Glad we came here to support this new business and wish them much success.

This was a huge disappointment for me. The name was very promising! Yet did not deliver The service was great, I can say my server was very sweet. She noticed immediately that my wait was ridiculously long for my food and compensated with cheesecake! That was very good The lamb chop breakfast was terrible. The look of it was not appealing AT ALL. I requested medium and well...the pics clearly don't show any pink. The pancakes were gooey and tasted like pure flour and water, not the best for me. The fries were great! I sent the lamb chops back and got an order of fries. They taste like bowling alley fries from back in the day if you have any idea what that taste like. Crispy chicken sandwich was BLAND. Looks can be deceiving..

A must try especially if you want to enjoy a halal meal. Syrup and salt offers an all day breakfast as well as lunch and dinner menu options. My husband and I tried it recently for dinner. We ordered the chicken fried steak and the mushroom Swiss burger. Both were delicious. I was very happy I was trying my dish with gravy, something I normally cannot have because it is mainly made with bacon. The place is trendy, service is excellent and place is clean. Prices are also very good. We are planning on trying them for breakfast next time. We are so glad it is in Mesa and not too far from our home. We will be returning soon!

Never fear, the wonderful food soaked up the booze, the amount of water I downed helped, AND we walked around the area, as well as visiting the book store next door. Food: caramel roll, caprese omelet, California benedict. 100% delectable. Nothing was left on our plates. We would have licked them off if so many people weren't surrounding us, enjoying their meals. The only hiccup to the visit was seeing some young chickee at another table suck on a vape. Luckily, that was mere minutes before we left, otherwise, we would have snitched on her. ;-)

Apparently they switched to summer hours recently & now it closes at 1pm. It's a Women owned restaurant inside an olde cute building with 4 small rooms inside for dining. The food was good & our waitress was sweet but they really should provide a carafe of water on the table &/or provide larger water glasses. One of us almost always had an empty glass. We only saw 2 young ladies working (1 server & 1 waitress). Think with small improvements this would be a solid 4 restaurant. I knocked off 1 start for accessibility issues. There was 1 lady in my party that has a walker but luckily she was able to navigate in & out of the building without any major issues. The Parking & bathrooms are a bit of a walk & may be difficult for someone with disabilities. I only saw 1 handicapped parking space. Plus all but the handicapped space in the parking lot is just sand/gravel. There's only 1 door for customers & it's located at the very front of the building (closest to Gilbert Rd). Know that the ramp to get into the building is quite short & steep. Also, the bathrooms are shared by the buildings in the complex & located in a separate building located behind the restaurant. *The ladies bathroom was clean, had a baby changer, & AC. It has a nice sized patio that runs along the front & side of the building with shade, fans, & misters. Too hot for my group on a 100+ degree day in AZ. Think I'd enjoy sitting in that outdoor space when it's cooler.

Much to our dismay, the restaurant was closed to focus on catering. Luckily, though, It reopens for pop-ups. This morning I saw an Instagram post announcing that there would be a brunch pop up today, so we got up and got ready to go. It really is tucked away in the corner of plaza and goodbye Safeway. Inside is a small dining room with a bar, and through the rolling doors is a patio with outdoor seating. You can see the kitchen through the plexiglass divider, and there is bar seating along the divider so you can watch the cooking. There's a great, colorful mural on one wall and some fun lighting fixtures and art. Today's pop up was packed when we arrived. We grabbed the last two chairs which were on the bar overlooking the kitchen. The menu had seven choices. Of course we ordered two different things so we could share, but we skipped cocktails. We ordered: *Steak chilaquiles Christmas style (both red and green chile) served with a side of beans and talked with an egg *Green chili pork hash served with a side of beans talked with an egg Both were delicious! We both ordered scrambled eggs, and I'm pretty sure it was more than an egg. I'm not sure how they cook those eggs but they were the best ever. The pinto beans had green chili in it and was so good. I'm from New Mexico, and these tasted like the beans that you rarely find outside of New Mexico. The steak on my chilaquiles was really good - - thin sliced and tender. I was able to easily cut it with just a butter knife. The pork in the hash was so yummy. What are scrumptious brunch! It was nice to sit overlooking the kitchen, as it was quite a show to watch the chef. I was amazed at how over easy eggs were tossed and caught in the pan without the yolks breaking. Heck, I can't even flip eggs with a spatula without breaking the yolk! Anytime I've overlooked a chef cooking, I'm totally in awe of their amazing skills, and this was no different. I really recommend Tucked Away, just as I did when it was a regular restaurant. Follow them on Instagram to be alerted to pop ups. You won't regret it!

I chose fried rice and was surprised to find chicken skin, egg and green onions in it unlike most Chinese restaurants just pouring soy sauce on the rice and charging you extra.
