This is a quaint breakfast and brunch restaurant that offers locally sourced ingredients, including their delicious coffee beans. This is a place to go that feels welcoming and gives you the "Cheers" vibe where "everybody knows your name." The service is fast, and the food is hot! This is our go to for breakfast.
I've heard good things about this place and was finally in the area to check it out! It was a Saturday morning around 10a, and it was busy, but we didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes for a seat. They had two areas for seating, one of which was outdoors-ish. The ambiance was classic/modern and colorful. Multiple people took care of us and I think it's all team tips and such. We'd said we needed a few minutes to look at the menu, but then it took them a while to come back for our order. I was expecting more options on the menu, but it was pretty standard breakfast options. No fancy coffees or foods. They also serve lunch and breakfast is available all day. What food we did order was very good. The Christopher's favorite was very flavorful, I liked the crispy hash browns cooked into the burrito. The pumpkin pancakes were also delicious, perfect for the time of year!
There is no false advertising at Matt's "Big Breakfast," you are well-fed here! I ordered the Hog & Chick breakfast with bacon and home fries. As you will see from the photo, the plate was straining to hold it all, accompanied by a thick piece of rye toast. Eggs were cooked perfectly! Everything was served hot and in a timely manner. Our server was great and we enjoyed breakfast on their nice patio. My only regret is that it it's been over a year since I hit up one of the Matt's BB locations!
08/31/2025 It's hard to believe I had never been to MBB until now. I met up with a friend here for brunch on a Sunday at around 10:30am. They were busy, but the staff moved quick and a two-seat table was available within a few minutes. I went with "The Basics" ($12.29) - two eggs any style, choice of potatoes (home fries or hash browns), and toast with homemade preserves. My friend got "The Hog & Chick" ($14.49) which is The Basics plus choice of bacon or sausage. She insisted that I try the bacon, and it was so good, cooked perfectly and crispy. My over easy eggs and home fries were delicious. The sourdough was thick, toasted, and tasty. I like that they cook with only the good stuff - real butter and extra virgin olive oil. Every staff member we interacted with was so friendly and courteous. I'm definitely adding MBB to my brunch rotation!
The location is clean with great outdoor seating. The decor is plain and simple. Nothing special. The staff have always been great and professional. The food though, breakfast perfection. Ok full disclosure I always order the chop and chick or steak and eggs. I absolutely love these dishes. The pork chop is one of the best I've ever had. If you need a brunch place with excellent proteins....this is the place.
We went here a while ago. This place was mediocre in our opinion. I got steak and eggs and the steak tasted like a really low quality steak. Which I get it, I believe it was the happy hour or the daily special. I guess if you're gonna do a special with steak you lower the quality. The hash browns definitely needed to be cooked longer, too soft. The OJ was good! Didn't really enjoy the steak enough to come back.
Our first time at this location...have been to the downtown location several times over the years. As we walked in, we were told to find our own seats. After looking around (they weren't busy at this moment), we choose a table closer over to the kitchen and their view window. I always love sitting near the chef's watching them prep and cook. They have a daily special and today was my favorite, eggs benedict. I actually waivered back and forth between this and their pork chop and eggs but ultimately went with the server choice of the benedict. You don't get a dedicated server, they are roaming and everything is there to help and support you, keep drinks coming, serving, etc. Wife choose The Hog & Chick, their version of a basic eggs/bacon or sausage, and toast breakfast. She didn't specify which potatoes and it came with your classic shredded hash browns which was cooked well, crispy on the outside and tender and soft in the center. She asked for the sausage patties, which had a slight kick to them. The dish comes with a slice of their thick sourdough toast and that most delicious home-made strawberry jam. A wonderful, tasty dish! I want to get back to my breakfast...I specifically asked for the home fries and what a disappointment. Yes, I probably could have sent them back but didn't. My biggest issue...they were so, so greasy. I loved the caramelized onions and the bits of rosemary but overall, just way to greasy for me. I did like their hollandaise sauce, although it also needed more lemon flavor. I had the poached eggs and they were cooked to perfection. Ok and lastly, I just want to say that I was a bit concerned with some of the hygiene I witnessed while sitting and watching both the server's area and the chefs in the kitchen. Had an environmental specialist been present, there most likely would have been some writing up. Things like...new server enters space, places both of her cups on the counter, punches in, pulls her hair back into a ponytail, moves her cups off to the side and goes to work. No handwashing observed. In the kitchen I watched a couple of servers and chefs touch hair, face, pull up pants, etc. and continue to cut, chop, serve. Bare hands observed while prepping including a pulling up of pants, the push back of the side hairs and then reaching over, peeling and slicing a banana and putting the pieces bare-handed into a bowl for serving. When you are in the moment, these actions happen without realizing it but as a customer watching...not Kosher. I asked about their outdoor patio area...it's not pet friendly so wanted to share that.
Came in for brunch with a friend and was expecting a long wait but was seated immediately! I had been to the Matt's in DTPHX and I had been meaning to check out their new Gilbert location. The service here was warm and friendly from the moment we walked in. I love that they have breakfast staples and lunchy and brunchy options such as their grilled chicken sandwich which was dee-licious. I'm a sucker for a good cold brew and although you may not think good cold brew comes in a can this one was delicious and very strong!
Matt's is my husband's favorite breakfast place. It is always clean and bright in this space and every worker we have ever had contact with has been welcoming and chipper. I usually get the Avocado Toast. My husband loves the fluffy, fresh blueberry pancakes. We come early (think 7-ish on a weekday) and it is usually pretty chill then.
We've been to Matt's Big Breakfast in Gilbert many times and it's quite frankly hit or miss. Having gone to their original location in Phoenix for years prior to the Gilbert location opening, we've noticed a lot of inconveniences here. Matt's is obviously a very popular spot, especially on the weekends. During the more popular brunch hours, there's usually an hour-ish wait; they do have outdoor seating for cooler months, which is nice. We've had quite a few items from their menu. I've liked the waffle and griddle cakes the most. If you're looking for something more spicy, their breakfast burrito is good. The reason for 3 stars is because there have been times the eggs were dry/overcooked, same with the potatoes where they crisped too much, burnt bread, and so on. Other times everything has been perfect. We used to go here more often previously, but it isn't our favorite anymore. Also not a fan of the wait, given that the food may not be worth it.
Very friendly service and a quaint atmosphere. Portions are large and very hearty. Good flavor with a grilled jalapeño. Bacon was a little too crispy for my taste but has great flavor. Be warned if you are looking for chicken fried steak or biscuits and gravy this is not the place for you. It's not one menu as a regular.
This place reminds me of going to a family member's house and the comfort it brings to be around your loved ones. To be honest, when I first came here it just seemed like a normal breakfast sport with kind people working, like a mom and pop shop. However the more I kept coming, the more I started to fall in love. The food is always consistently good and the service makes me feel like we've all been friends forever. Being here is so comforting and homey. I love how not one person is your server and everyone there is happy to help and always checking up. Not only that, I believe most of their ingredients are locally sourced ! This has become our go to breakfast spot! We have also been bringing our friends here and everyone loves it. We're trying to get their daily specials each day but so far have only gotten the Fri-Sun meals. Looks like i gotta leave work early these days to reach my goal of trying everything on the menu!
Such a cute place, I definitely prefer this location to the phoenix one. Great food at a reasonable price and had the best hilarious waiter. I got the Friday special scramble so yummy. I especially loved the strawberry jam that comes with the toast. Such a cheerful place would definitely visit again.

Matt's big breakfast is an easy and reliable option for a weekend outing! Fortunately, every time I've been, there has not been a wait and once my order has been placed, the food magically appears within a matter of minutes! It is impressive how speedy and on top of their game they are! I love that they have weekend specials, which always offers something new to try. I think the prices are reasonable and the portion sizes are generous. read more

This is my second visit to Matt's BB, my first was in the west side of Phoenix 10 years ago. Parking is available in front and in the multi purpose buildings parking lot. There are quite a few nice restaurants here so parking during peak meal times can be challenging. Ambiance This location is modern trendy, appealing to a younger demographic reflective of the buildings live here dine here concept. Trendy modern designs on the walls. The noise level is High as patrons compete with their adjacent tables. We were able to hold a conversation with some repeats but probably wouldn't be back. Score reflects noise level. Menu We were here for breakfast but lunch/dinner items are offered. Selection's were typically breakfast options but not your typical portions or quality. Portions were large ( both of us had leftovers); and flavorful ingredients made this breakfast distinct. Food was served surprisingly fast with a full house. For those living here They have a great group of eateries here and wish something similar existed when I was younger: ) $$/$$$ read more
I had something new for breakfast this time they had a special with Italian sausage, onions, and peppers and potatoes and egg, which was pretty good but the sausage was definitely missing the Italian sausage kick. I still like going there because it's pretty nice little place. They normally have a pretty good food. Service is always excellent. Give it a try you'll love it. read more

The service & food were both amazing! I love the team service concept and it seems like the workers do too as everyone came up to help/check on us and grab our order. They even list where they get their meat/produce/hot sauce which was very cool! I got the Sunday special and it was very good and the portion size was just right. Another diner got the chop & chick, and the bacon was thick-cut & flavorful (from The Pork Shop). There's outdoor seating as well and inside there was a cute mural. read more
Giving this place a 2 because the pancakes were good. This burrito lacked flavor unfortunately. Eggs, hash browns, the tortilla, the green chili, it was all mediocre. Couldn't even cut through the gummy moist tortilla. Overall, it was a miss for me. The French toast also lacked flavor and tasted mostly like bread. Our server was quite nice. I went here based on the reviews , but they definitely have to be reviews isolated to the population in the surrounding area. read more

Was in the area and decided to stop in and give it a try. There was no wait time for a table of two on Veterans Day the other Monday. The place is small, mom and pop feel. The menu is rather small which surprised me, but I guess it's better to be good at a few things than mediocre at a lot. You don't have a designated server, rather it's a team approach. So one person could take your drink order and another your food order, etc. The food came out quick. If you didn't know, the burrito is smothered. The hog and chick was pretty basic. The potato however are well seasoned and herbaceous. VERY oily though (which tends to be a theme here). The bacon was peppered and honestly it wasn't my favorite; but not bad. My boyfriend enjoyed the burrito, it was a substantial size. I liked the bean inside but that's all that really stood out to me. The prices seemed a little high to me, but this restaurant does use quality ingredients and local ones at that. It was an average breakfast place, nothing to write home about. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to go back but I also have no issues with the place. read more

5 in every category! Food was outstanding. Service was excellent. Parking was easy and abundant. Ambiance was very welcoming. Easy 5 star across the board. Dropped in for a late breakfast (10:30), got seated right away (tables available inside and outside, in the shade). Staff was on us almost right away and a couple of coffees were at our table within minutes. Our waiter was courteous and answered a few questions, made a couple of recommendations and took our order and our meals delivered soon after. On Monday their special is Huevos Rancheros & it was delicious. Very flavorful and the salsa verde had just the right heat. We also had the Chick & Pig (2 eggs, sausage patties, crispy hash browns and sourdough toast with housemade blueberry preserves. All of it was amazing - even the coffee! Alot of the items they have on their menu are sourced locally. Their prices are probably a little higher (but not crazy) than some other breakfast places, but their quality is significantly better. Their burrito was way overboard with the amount of jalapeño, very little chorizo and the slices of potato were huge for a burrito. Husband was not pleased with it unfortunately. The server was nice but she never asked us how the food was even though husband only pecked at his plate. I got a breakfast sandwich which was pretty good, hash browns crispy. Can't complain. My son didn't like the bacon as it was automatically covered in black pepper, we didn't get a heads up about that. Also, if you're looking for a sunny patio, this won't be the patio for you. read more

Ate breakfast here with my husband, daughter, son-in-law, & their 2 kids on Saturday, 5/17/25. My daughter has been raving about this place as both her favorite breakfast & lunch spot. We sat out under the covered patio. It has a nice open feeling because it's between 2 buildings. They have team service so all the staff shares responsibilities. All were really friendly. Food was tasty & delicious - all made fresh after you order. Just an FYI - no specialty coffees here. read more
It was good! Working in the breakfast industry there was a lot of weird stuff I wasn't used to. And I'm also familiar with the POS system they use so I know splitting the check is something very simple.. otherwise the food was ok not as good as the original location grandpas toast was almost burnt, but the ORANGE JUICE WAS THE BEST IVE EVER HAD. So pulpy and delicious! It was very up to date and modern, most importantly the service was very good! Well done guys read more

First time here and it was pretty good. Coffee and orange juice were yummy. I appreciate the fresh OJ. Service was immaculate. Never had a moment where I felt like I couldn't speak to someone. The veggie bowl was good, a little too much liquid at the bottom but all in all a hearty option for vegetarians. My daughter loved the salami scramble. We would come back for sure. read more

First time here and they did not disappoint. Had the Big Poppa Burrito and it was loaded and large. My guest had the breakfast sandwich with the potatoes. Very attentive service. Will return as the Corned Beef Hash is only available on Wednesday's. Cute place in a very nice plaza. Plan a later breakfast or stop by for lunch as there are plenty of local shops to patronize. read more
Matt's Big Breakfast has been on my list for a while and finally had a chance to visit for Sunday brunch back in March. The restaurant was buzzing and the dining room was packed. They have outdoor seating and fortunately, there was no wait for it. Our server was fantastic. She was fast and friendly. We ordered the following: Grains, greens, & beans $13.49 x2 Short stack griddlecakes (2) $8.99 Side of avocado Side of tomatoes My husband and I both ordered the Grains, Greens, & Beans for our main entree. The bowl features farro, sautéed baby spinach, heirloom Anasazi beans topped with two poached eggs, crushed herbs, and pink Himalayan sea salt. You have the option to add mushrooms for $2.25, which we did. The bowl was hearty and tasty. The side of avocado and tomatoes were great additions to the bowl. Since we both have a sweet tooth, we added the short stack griddlecakes (2). The griddlecakes hit the spot. We'll be back! read more

This was the first time my husband and I ate at Matt's Big Breakfast. The food was a good with Great portions of food. The staff and waitress were very nice as well. A great place to have Breakfast or Brunch! read more
Matt's Big Breakfast is a local chain. I came across a list that had the best pancakes in each state. Matt's pancakes (specifically the blueberry ones) were named the best in AZ. With that in mind, we made a point of going to the one closest to our hotel. We went for a late breakfast on a weekday. The place was doing a brisk business but we were seated immediately upon entering. They have seating indoors as well as covered outdoor seating. We chose to eat inside. A server came to our table in short order. Of course, I chose the blueberry pancakes and a glass of lemonade. My husband ordered scrambled eggs with sausages and hash browns plus a cup of coffee. This dish also comes with some toast. The service here is slow. Oddly enough, all the diners we noticed were unfazed by this. What that tells me is that they like the food so much that they're willing to wait for however long it takes. When the food finally came, we were eager to dig in. Each order of pancakes comes with three of them. These were awesome pancakes. They are thick, moist and fluffy. The amount of fresh blueberries is very generous. I spread the butter around and poured some syrup on them. This was a surprisingly filling meal. Much as I enjoyed it, I just couldn't eat it all. I let our server know that I did like the pancakes but I was full! My husband liked his breakfast. The only thing he thought needed work was the hash brown potatoes. He said they were on the dry side. Otherwise, he gladly ate it all. We would definitely go to Matt's again next time we're in town. Until then, I'll just have to dream about the pancakes :) read more
