My sister and I were desperate for decent hot and sour soup after the tragic fire that destroyed Silver dragon. She googled best hot and sour soup, and this place came up. Googlers were not wrong. A very tasty cup of hot and sour soup was the accompaniment to the standard lunch special. I would definitely come back for when we inevitably get a cold/flu in the winter. The garlic chicken plate was.... decent. The chicken itself was good, not extraordinary, but it was ok. The rice and chow mein had no flavoring, so that was a letdown. Siy sauce to the rescue. The staff was very friendly...mostly. They were very cordial, checked on us, and made sure the food was ok. However, things changed when it was time to pay. Ste stared at me when the big "percentage tip" screen came up...she didn't step away, or even look away. A little awkward. Once I paid, she said quickly, almost coldly, "Ok, bye," opposite to what we had seen earlier. Her equivalent of "You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here." We dined on 6/21/26 and I'm so upset that I cannot find the name of the gentleman who took care of us, he was so kind and accommodating. We ordered combination fried rice, black bean string beans, cashew chicken, orange chicken and chow mein. This place is my absolute favorite for Chinese food. I'd say the only disappointment is knowing it's been here so long and I've passed by many times and never eaten until recently. Their egg foo yung is the absolute best we have ever had!!!I couldn't even wait to take a pic so you get to see the inside. The spring Rolls have just a hint of five spice making them stellar. The beef chow fun is melt in your mouth. Our children love their potstickers which are steamed then fried for a nice texture. We tried the hot and sour soup tonight and we devoured it. My wife and I eat Chinese food at least 2-3 times a month at 3-4 different locations. That said, Szechuan Garden tops them all. Cozy and comfortable, excellent service and top quality food although a bit pricey but considering we will get at least 3 more meals out of the leftovers it's not that bad. read more

I rarely eat out but I choose to order from Szechuan Garden tonight as a treat. I'd had a wonderful lunch there 2 years ago on Mother's Day. I was looking forward to repeating the same experience. I ordered Sesame Chicken, Chicken, Chicken chow mein , and mixed vegetables. To be fair the food was cold, but that was my fault. Food getting cold doesn't account for it being dry and bland. The vegetables consisted of a nice mix of bok choy, broccoli, snow peas, mushrooms, water chestnuts, carrots and xiao baicai (baby corns). Nicely cooked, but no flavor. Lastly the chicken chow mein was tasty. I ordered online, picked up. Total with $6.00 tip, $50.00. For that price I wish I could have the meal and leftovers. Staff was friendly. read more

Our favorite Asian food in the Fair Oaks/Citrus Heights area. We moved out of Fair Oaks 6 years ago, but every opportunity we get, we stop there for lunch or dinner. The service is always wonderful. Plenty of people stopping in for take-out. The last time I was there (last week) our server said that business had been slow because people preferred chicken or burgers. Our meal was slight more expensive than two burger combos at Carl's Jr or McD's. Much better, and plenty of leftovers to take home. Not full of sugar like Panda Express. read more

I've been coming to this place of and one for maybe 20 years! I'm not sure I just remember it's always been great and they always seat us quickly! This year we didn't want to deal with the Xmas hassle. We went in with no "reservation needed" it was completely packed and we were sat quickly and a party of seven. I'm guessing we had great timing! Food was amazing, table sat 8 but didn't fit enough food for 8 ordering family style. It took a while but it was expected since the demand. So may to go ordered and a full restart. The food is delicious and flavorful. It is enjoyable to eat here. We had the Chinese snow peas with beef. We were pleasantly surprised that water chestnuts were served in this dish. And the beef was very tender. I highly recommend this entree. The second dish was the Singapore noodles (it's in the chow fun section of the menu). Singapore noodles are thin rice noodles with a very mild curry spice. Although it comes with shrimp, we are allergic to shrimp. We substituted chicken. Excellent amount of curry spice. In addition we also asked for less salt on the food. There was less salt on the Singapore noodles. We asked for "white sauce" on the snow pea and beef dish. The "Chinese white sauce" - broth with a little cornstarch plus a touch of other ingredients - is not salty. read more

This is a great Chinese restaurant, I'm not sure how some claim they are not given good customer service, today for instance I came at 8:25 and they politely said they close at 9 but still proceeded to seat us, most places would turn you away. The host came and took our order, brought water and the little crunchy bread strips with the sweet sauce, which are complimentary and delicious by the way! My new go-to Chinese place in the Sacramento area! Easily the best. Went in for lunch today and had an unexpected feast. We ordered the lunch special (available on a Saturday!) for the Szechuan chicken (asked for less spice), and tried the pot stickers and General Tso chicken. The portions of everything were bigger than expected. Definitely couldn't eat all of it if I tried, expect to bring leftovers home. The lunch special came with hot and sour soup, fried rice, and noodles, all of which were as good as it gets. They nailed the less spicy part of the Szechuan chicken. The General Tso wasn't too much sauced and tasted great over steam rice. The pot stickers were crispy on the bottom and filled with meat, the house made sauces for everything were balanced and flavored perfectly. The Dan Dan noodles were very tasty and the broth kept the tender brisket-like meat warm and flavorful. The restaurant and the restrooms were very clean. The dining room has a very nice ambiance and the food was served hot but came out quickly. We had the opportunity to chat with one of the owners, Alice. See saw how much we enjoyed the food and took it upon herself to check in on us. On top of the service being exceptional, she explained that all the sauces for our pot stickers, the chili oils and even the noodles were made in house. They even sell their homemade chili oil on sight. I wished I lived closer because I'd be there more often, but I go to Sacramento often enough to know I'll be back soon. The pot stickers were almost unedible, zero flavor and almost looked like uncooked meat in the center. The filling had zero ingredients besides plain pork. Also the dipping sauce was very strange tasting. The chicken chow meain had zero flavor whatsoever, it was greasy, very light on chicken besides some random scraps, and a few random pieces of vegetable. Szechuan Garden is my jam! The food a really good the prices are slightly higher than other Chinese food places in the area, but it's well worth it. When, I used to live in the Carmichael/ Fair Oaks area this was my go to spot to have good food delivered no delivery fee if you live within a 3 mile radius of Szechuan Garden. I've ordered chow mein, fried fried, sweet & sour chicken, orange chicken, fried wonton, beef broccoli, you name it I've ordered it. I've never had any complaints about the food or quality. Even though I no longer live in the area I still to this day still patronize Szechuan Garden as the food is that good. I was introduced to Szechuan by a friend about 10 or so years ago and have been an ongoing customer since! This place is great!! And their Rangoons are the best I've had, EVER! Anytime I hear anyone else talking about some other place they love (and specifically Rangoons) I ask them if they've been here and then introduce them to Szechuan and they realize they've been missing out and become new customers. When I lived out of state for a few years, this was one of the places I always made a point to stop at whenever I came back to town for a visit. I was always looking for a place even semi comparable and never had. With the exception of holidays, the dining room usually has availability (but there are nonstop pick up orders, which I always saw as a great sign). Holidays, the place is PACKED!! We were greeted by the owners and they were very outgoing and pleasant to chat with, as well as prompt servers of our food. The food was served hot, swiftly and delicious!!! It is very rare that I will give a restaurant one star. I usually call and in this case I did to let management know what was going on with my pick up order. I ordered egg foo young, broccoli and oyster sauce and potstickers. Every entrée was burnt. I had to toss it all! When I called she said, rudely I'll tell the chef and hung up the phone. The time before the food was so heavily salted I had to throw it away. When I called that time they were nice and just said we're sorry. On both occasions they did not offer any kind of compensation for the poor quality of food that they served. Happy Silver Dragon opened up in fair Oaks, so so much better.
