Szechuan Dumpling is our favorite neighborhood go-to restaurant. We've never had a meal that we didn't enjoy and can't get enough of their delicious dumplings. Our favorites are the pork and scallion and the soup dumplings. We've compared with numerous other restaurants in greater Boston area and they are the best, hands down. Plus they give you a ton for not much money. Some of our favorite dishes include, chicken with eggplant and basil, beef chow foon, and minced pork with black bean sauce. The staff are super friendly and welcoming. They've pointed us to some great items we may not have considered without their guidance. Definitely give them a try. read more

Pork dumplings are bomb. Wonton soup was flavorful but legit was broth, 4 wontons and scallions. Should have some more substance like bok choy snap peas etc. Dumplings are as good as they are in Chinatown. read more

The first time I ate their food, I was jazzed. I like traditional Chinese food. The food was delicious and well-prepared. Really liked the pork with mustard greens, pork with garlic sauce, sauteed pea shoots with garlic, as well as the juicy mini dumplings (which were gigantic, not mini). The second time, the food was not nearly as good. It is very disappointing when that happens. I really think that restaurants should be able to recreate their dishes consistently and deliciously. The last time I ate there, there was an overwhelming, unpleasant cleaning product smell that emanated from the kitchen whenever the staff entered or exited the kitchen. We also had a calamari dish that was poorly executed and tasted bad. I will try again. My first experience with their food was good enough to try a few more times. read more

Ughhh... the scallion pancakes are what is holding me back from giving this place 1 star. The pancakes were delicious but I ordered vegetable chow foon=HORRIBLE. They were swimming in oil and because of that it made them all mushy and gross. They had no flavor what so ever. I guess I'll just eat the scallion pancakes for dinner read more

Been here several times. The food is still great, the service went way downhill since they opened. Try any of the dumplings, the Black Mushrooms with Shanghai Greens, the Oyster Pancake - these are great, and in general this place is wonderful if you want to experiment with real Chinese food. Unfortunately, the staff makes me not want to go back at all. I agree with the other reviewers that they sometimes seem like they couldn't care less if you're there. They say they're open til 11pm, but if you get here even at 9:30 you feel like you're annoying them and they want to go home. First they didn't bring our order for 40 minutes, but instead the entire kitchen staff all came out and started eating next to us. Once they were done, they went back to the kitchen and about 20 minutes later the food came out. Then the waiters stood around and stared at us while we were eating, and people were cleaning up right around us, making us really uncomfortable. After this experience I am hesitant to go back here even if the food is good. One other upside is that the food is really cheap. read more

I wish so much that I could say something good about this restaurant. But the truth is the food isn't good. I stopped by after work to pick up some dumplngs and some chicken and broccoli. I had heard good things about it from someone at my job. I was looking forward to having some good food. Dumplings were tough and didn't taste fresh. The chicken and broccoli were just the standard and verged on unpleasant. It also took a really long time to get my order and there was no one else in the restaurant. What gives? The prices are high at dinner time and I felt very let down and won't be returning. Staff was pleasant but that doesn't make up for run-of-the--mill Chinese fare. The Owners need to invest in taste, service and updating of decor. A defensive attitude won't get you far with your customers. With a key location, and to have the restaurant empty most evenings, there is something more going on here. Not the weather and not the economy. Guys. You can do this. My husband & I ordered take-out General Gau's chicken & bite size shrimp dumplings. We usually order from a different Chinese restaurant in Arlington. However, due to the changed establishment & favorable reviews we decided to give Szechuan's Dumpling a try. As soon as I looked @ the General Gau's color, I didn't think it would tastes too great. :( Although, the pieces of chicken were a decent size...the batter was just too doughy & possibly freezer burned. The flavor of the dumplings weren't too bad but, the filling was quite a small amount. Maybe I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up. The previous restaurant was Jade Garden & their food wasn't good at all. We usually order GG's no matter where we go. Unfortunately, Szechuan's Dumpling didn't "fit the bill". :( My rating is 2 & 1/2 stars. A correction: Shrimp & Vegetable Dumplings. It was not bite size but, they sure were small. These dumplings should be called "bite size". They do look home made & not manufactured from a factory. I am very surprised they haven't gotten any complaints over how tiny these dumplings are. read more

literally. so good. actually my favorite place. i am the most pickiest eater out there and i LOVE everything here. the beef with broccoli is my favorite. the broccoli is so crunchy and the sauce is so delicious i like to put it in my rice the string beans are also really good. not too raw or too old. just perfect. the sweet sour fish i just started eating and it just might be the most sophisticated dish i have ever eaten. the inside is so soft and they're are no bones, ofc. the outside is just the perfect amount of crunch and the sauce is VERY yummy. ive been here since i was six and i'm still excited every time my family says we're eating here. i would provide pictures but i finished eating bc it was to hard to resist. i would give this place 10 stars if i could. read more

They have a great selection of food, and especially the scallion pancakes and dumplings are worth the half hour drive. The pancakes are always crispy and fresh, and the pork and vegetable dumplings are delicious. We've come with a few people up to a large group of 9, and the service is always quick and friendly. Also, if you have little ones, it's a kid-friendly place. I would definitely recommend this spot for solid and consistent Chinese food any time of the week. read more

Their name has "dumpling" so I ordered Xiaolongbao. The wrapping is too thick. The soup/juicy inside is too greasy. Softshell crab was over done. Taste like fried grease nothing else. YuSheng Eggplant was just ok. Pig ear has too much coagulated sauce. read more

Legit soup dumplings! Flavorful, juicy and scrumptious. I can understand people hoping for a thinner skin, but no serious complaints from me. Also really enjoyed the crispy chicken and ginger. Service was on point and prices were reasonable. read more

My son has never seen a plate of chicken lo mein he hasn't loved and devoured, and when one came at Szechuan's Dumpling he took one bite and said, "This is greasy." He was right, but it was nothing compared to the other dishes, which were swimming in grease. read more

Average Chinese restaurant with a nice selection of beverages and a menu that can overwhelm you. Food is decent but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. We just happen to live nearby so it's convenient. There's only street parking which isn't bad because it's free but sometimes it can be difficult to find a spot. My husband was nearby and decided on take-out. My two stars are based on a one time pick-up. We ordered General Gau's (I know, I know) very typical. Pork fried rice was tasteless. But the real shock was the "twice cooked pork." What was that? Pressed pork in the shape of bacon in 2.5 inch strips. A bit like "Meals on wheels." Also, way too many hot pepper flakes: I like hot but heck I can sprinkle my own. I wish I had more faith to try the items other Yelpers suggest. read more

A suburban/Chinatown combo in between Somerville and Lexington. My brother, grandmother, and I always have our go-to. This place is on the list. Great lunch specials, amazing scallion pancakes (crispy and hot), soup dumplings available outside of beach st., and a pretty deep menu (from general tso's to whole fish). The Three Cup Chicken was flavorful and full of bones (if that's your cup of tea). The spicy clams my grandma got were just the right spice-level and meaty. Service was excellent too. Oh where to begin? We ordered three different types of dumplings as well as the crispy chicken with basil, pork and scallions, fried chicken legs, and spring rolls. Crispy chicken with basil tasted like deep fried bread. Pork and scallions was 90% onion, 5% scallion and 5% pork. Fried chicken legs had a funky taste (old oil?). The spring rolls were actually good. The dumplings were OK. Nothing special but not horrible. Bummer because we've been on the hunt for good Chinese food that delivers. The delivery man was particularly nice and friendly... but that could not save our dinner. read more

We were HUGE fans of this place...loved the eggplant with basil, the soup dumplings, and the pan fried chicken dumplings. And then this change in management. All are wildly inferior to how they were before. I see other yelpers have had the same experience. What a shame. It was such a great addition. Crossing it off my list. Sigh. Thought the food here was great. I had a little bit of everything: shrimp, fish, tofu, dumplings. Pork dumplings were especially good. We had great service as well. It was a Friday night so it was very busy at the time. I'll definitely go back when I'm craving dumplings! read more

This place is really good! My family has been going here recently and the food is really good and cheap! a family of 4 who eats a lot probably spent 45 total for dinner and we ate a lot. Unfortunately, we agree with the other recent reviews. We loved this place before the change in management. Now, the food is mediocre. The dumplings are smaller and no longer anything special. The other dishes we loved were either bland (chow foon) or over cooked (shanghai greens, pea pod stems). I really wish this was not the case. The people are nice enough and we really wanted the food to be just as amazing as before but it is just "meh" at best now, which is really disappointing. read more

This my third visit to Szechuan's Dumpling in Arlington Height during lunch.. It has been consistently excellent. I like that they also have an "authentic" Chinese menu which is separate from the regular menu. Try ordering from that menu as the offerings are different and reflect the village recipes from where Lisa (owner) was born and raised. The owners are very accommodating and the service is quick and efficient. They both speak really good English so take out orders are always perfect. I love their pork mini juicy buns. They show you how to eat it with a large spoon so you don't loose any of the wonderful juices inside. Friday 6pm, seated quickly. Menu plentiful and ordered pan fried noodles, braised tofu and veg, beef and pea pods and of course pork and veg dumplings. Food was delivered quick and everything authentic and tasty! Especially the beef and pea pods was a crowd favorite. Prices very reasonable. We will return and often. read more

Super busy evening (Father's Day, 6:15pm) so will return on another night to properly judge service. The food was very good for the most part, with the highlight being the "soup dumplings"; the house specialty. Our party of 7 was not particularly adventurous so we stuck with a lot of "standard" dishes. Normally fussy daughter liked the equivalent of chicken lo-mein (strong noodle menu), tofu was very good, vegetables properly cooked. Dishes were all reasonably priced and with generous portions. Some of the dishes were somewhat "over-sauced" and moo-shu chicken was not on the menu (pork was) so we asked them to make it for us. They did, but it wasn't great. Not surprising. The service was really problematic, but the menu was interesting and the food good enough that we will definitely go back. All other reviews praised the service, so I imagine we just hit a tough night for them. 3 stars for now but I bet my rating will go up. read more

Now as the management has changed, the pork mini juicy dumpling got so smaller in size that my boyfriend does not even want to go there anymore. Meh is right. We're very disappointed in the new reincarnation of this restaurant. We used to love this place, but under the new management (and new chefs) the quality of the food has definitely declined. The salt and pepper fish fillets used to be a generous plateful of succulent, perfectly battered and seasoned fried fish. When we ordered it under new management we were warned that the fish fillets were frozen. We decided to try it anyway. The new dish was a much more skimpy portion of pale, bland, thin slices of fish. To add insult to injury the plate was "padded" with probably a cupful of deep fried short flat "noodles", the kind that Panera adds to the Thai or Asian chicken salad. The Shanghai greens had also become a smaller and again blander more anemic dish. In both dishes, there seemed to be MSG, based on my allergic reactions, which I never sensed under the old management. I also tried the new version of the mini juicy pork dumplings, and they were good, though quite a bit smaller than the previous version. I might be wrong, but I think they also used to give you 9 dumplings. Now there are 8 quite small dumplings. If you get them for take-out, beware, because they'll come in a very flimsy aluminum container that bends and will leak all over! While the food might be adequate for a North American Chinese restaurant, it's no longer the delicious authentic home style cooking it previously was. read more

After spending a very Long Day at Tufts University for a Track meet - we were Craving some good Chinese food so scanning Yelp found this little Gem that was on the way home! When we entered there was 4 people dining - which had me just a little worried - BUT we sat and before we knew it the resturant was Brimming with patrons - we slipped in just before the evening "Rush". Even with the crowd the Service was Wonderful and staff made you feel like you were the only patrons in the dining room. The Food was Delicious and the Bill made me fall offmy Chair the Prices are So Reasonable - I am so used to dropping $100.00 bill for dinner that the $46.00 bill was the desert to a Fantastic dinner! If you are vegetarian, STAY AWAY! The tofu came out smelling like ammonia! I got a bit sick! They also seem to like putting meat products (like pork sauce) in veggie dishes. This place is probably better for people who eat meat. Also, the bitter melons are REALLY bitter! read more

I tried out the Szechuan's Dumpling restaurant the other day and I have mixed reviewed. We I had arrived, we were greeted by the hostness who was not very friendly. The service is left to be desired. The waitress was not helpful and only filled my friends water glass when even though my water glass was empty. I ordered the spring rolls which were a little on the greasy side. However, the chicken wonton soup was good. For my dinner I ordered the beef is szechuan sauce..it was more like soup than anything else and some pieces of beef were tough. The pork juicy mini buns were good although a little on the doughy side. I wont be going back anytime soon.. I prefer Taipai Gourmet in Lexington..better service, friendlier and better food in my opinion read more
