Shrimp Yakamein soup spicy and delicious
    Luis C.

Ever since I've been coming to New Orleans, which has been a while, i've seen some grocery stores advertise that they have yakamein soup. I had to try it and I read that this place was good so I went. It's a nondescript corner store on Jackson Avenue in New Orleans, but as you enter you see the menu on the wall and pick an item. In a few minutes I got a 32 oz. styrofoam cup filled with this delicious, spicy, steamy soup with shrimp, noodles, green onions, and hard boiled egg. So good and filling. Can't wait to go back. Best $10 ever spent at this great, family owned business.

I asked for a 6 piece all flats and had rude service

Service was terrible. I asked for fresh chicken and all flats and seasoning on my fries and got denied. Prices are higher then what's posted on website

I only tried the crawfish but they were delicious! It was definitely a hole in the wall joint...which is proving to be where the good food is. They were pretty hot...like made me sniffle...but that isn't a complaint! They had a great flavor!

Had the shrimp po boy and it's was very good and huge. The bread is fresh and so was the shrimp. Tried the roast beef power boy and it was also very good. For 9 bucks you really get your money's worth. This place has been around pre katrina and I can see why. Great local spot

I firmly believe they have the best po boys in town. Have yet to try their yakamein. Just a dingy food mart. No frills.

The catfish po boy is so good! I would definitely go back again. That woman at the counter is also very nice.

Delicious po-boy! We got the shrimp, catfish, and roast beef - the shrimp was the best but all 3 were great.

BEST SHRIMP POBOY I HAVE EVER TRIED. Their fried rice is really good too. I'll definitely be stopping by next time I'm in NOLA.

This is the spot for po-boys, gumbo, and rice & beans. Don't sleep on it. There is no other.

Back then it was my first Dim Sum experience and then when I worked in Heritage Plaza during Katrina recovery days we ate lunch there at least once a week. But this is all new! I'm so happy for Miss Shirley and the amazing place that has her name on it on Magazine St. The food was exceptional. Everything from the short ribs to the Soup Dumplings, to the Moo Shu with those paper thin pancakes. Everything was fresh and fantastic. What a great time and it was so good to see Miss Shirley again after all these years.

Thankfully, Magazine Street offers plenty to do to pass the time! When we were finally seated, our table was toward the back near the kitchen. The interior is a cozy but tightly packed space, which means it gets pretty loud with all the chatter bouncing around. However, any issues with the crowded feel vanish once the food arrives. The food and service easily make up for it. Our waiter brought out complimentary fried beef dumplings with a house-made chili sauce that tasted incredible. We ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice (shrimp, pork, chicken, egg, pineapple, and onions) and it was absolute perfection. We also got the lightly battered Orange Ginger Chicken with broccoli, which had amazing flavor. Well worth the visit!

Rather than pursuing a burger, I decided to try this well regarded Chinese restaurant across the street from my hotel. This review is based on one item I got for takeout: Szechuan Beef. I am never one to equate quantity with quality. I'm also not well-versed in authentic Chinese. I'm mostly familiar with American Chinese. I ordered Szechuan beef expecting a dry stir fry of beef strips tossed with dried Szechuan peppers. Instead I got a 1 quart container with a zesty, moderately spicy broth loaded with tender strips of melt-in-your-mouth beef. This was pure heaven, and was an explosion of tangy flavor. The quart could've easily served a family of 4. That would just require another side of rice. This was just outstanding! The restaurant was compact yet inviting and service was great. I placed my takeout order on site at the counter, but they have table service.

I've eaten here before and the food is decent, which makes this experience even more disappointing…read more I ordered a dish with shrimp and simply asked to substitute broccoli for the rice. When the bill arrived, I noticed I had been charged extra for the broccoli and also charged for shrimp--even though shrimp was already the protein included in the menu item I ordered. I politely questioned the charge, and the explanation I received didn't seem to match what was stated on the menu. I then asked to speak with a manager so the issue could be addressed. After quite a bit of discussion in the kitchen, the server returned, but instead of a manager coming out, I was given essentially the same explanation we had already discussed. I calmly explained why the charges didn't make sense and expressed that I was unhappy with how the situation was being handled. Unfortunately, there seemed to be little interest in resolving the concern or retaining my business. The food is fine, but my advice is to carefully review your bill before paying. Based on my experience, management does not appear particularly concerned when customers raise billing issues.
