We stop here for breakfast every time we come to Lafayette. It is a back home, authentic Cajun experience. I love it. The place is clean and filled with locals, which is always a good sign. The coffee is fabulous. I love when I see that bright yellow canister of Joy on my table. My husband ordered the crawfish omelette with grits and a biscuit. This very could be the reason we come to Lafayette. I had scrambled eggs, sausage and a biscuit. Their potatoes were to die for. I loved them. The beignets were amazing.

I came into town for a wedding and had to try all the foods Louisiana is known for. I went to T-Coon's for the beignets. They're made fresh. But they weren't what I expected. Besides the powdered sugar, the dough was not sweet. Cute diner style restaurant, clean with good customer service.

There are a lot of things that I love about Acadiana. My mom, Cajun food, and the accent. If only I could do the accent justice I would try and speak that way all the time. Know what I am saying chair? Anyway, T-Coon's is the kind of place that this dude from the hard streets of Nola loves. I used to work with a guy who worked down the road from here. He kept telling me that I needed to come visit at lunchtime and we would go eat here. Well, he retired so that never happened but when I was in town last week at lunch, I decided it was time to give ole T-Coon's a try. T-Coon's is the kind of place that can only exist in Acadiana. I have been to similar spots in Eunice (Cajun Music Capital of the World) and New Iberia (Capital of my Mom). Yes, many cities have casual lunch spots but none can match those in Acadiana. The menu here is vast but I have learned that the special of the day is always a good idea. On this Monday it was the smothered rabbit with rice and gravy. It came with two sides and I opted for smothered cabbage and green beans. The flavors were great but difficult for me to describe. Rich, deep, and delicious are some adjectives that hit the mark but you have to try it for yourself. I will say that the rabbit has a lot of bones so proceed with caution. The cabbage was the best I have had hands down. The ladies behind the counter were as sweet and friendly as one would expect in Acadiana. Prices were very reasonable and we left full and happy. If you find yourself in Lafayette, make sure you visit T-Coon's. Tell them T-Bubs sent you.

When in Lafayette drive past all the shopping centers and chain restaurants to seek out T-Coons in a strip mall. It is a well appreciated, family, traditional Cajun restaurant with country ambience and many locals of all ages. There are daily specials and service is mostly from a premade buffet selections. I was alone so I can only report on my one meal which I would call spectacular. I had crawfish étouffée which was overloaded with the critters. It came with delicious Cole slaw and a sweet fresh bun.

We were looking for the perfect Louisiana breakfast and found it. Our waitress, Ashley, was amazing. She was attentive, helpful, and just fun to talk with. We loved the coffee and that they leave the decanter at the table for refills. The place had a nice mom and pop diner vibe. Staff made us feel welcomed. The food was incredible. It was the made-with-love kind of food we craved. Husband wanted biscuits and gravy topped with crawfish, and they happily accommodated him. I had the sausage biscuit with a side of grits. If I could have that plate for breakfast every morning, I would. We will be back again!

Solid breakfast and lunch spot with ownership and staff that are the true embodiment of southern hospitality. The owner immediately recognized our group was not local, gave us advice on what to order, gave us a hefty sampling of beignets, and had his staff treat us like we were his best regular customers. To top it off, the food was great, came quickly, and is inexpensive. I will be back to T Coons in future visits to Lafayette. read more

Husband and I stopped here for breakfast, we were greeted with smiles and joy. We were able to choose where we wanted to sit, and once we did we were greeted by I believe her name was Vicky she took care of the whole time while waiting on a busy section. The coffee is good and strong and I only needed a cup. I had the biscuits and gravy and they were on point the freshest I have in a long time. The hubs had a bacon omelet with cheese, grits, and biscuit. I thought was very basic, boy was I wrong it was the best basic breakfast ever! If in town this is a MUST HAVE! Our morning started with a craving for beignets! So I pulled up Yelp and hit search. T-Coon's popped up with great reviews and locally owned, I love that. We walked in and greet immediately, seated and served within the matter of 20 minutes. Y'all!! It was a Saturday!! & they were so quick and the food was still so so good. Local place with a VERY casual atmosphere. The food was just ok. I had an omelette with grits and biscuit. The biscuit was excellent. Everything else was marginal at best. My son had a sausage biscuit with a side of bacon. After two bites of the sausage biscuit, he gave up and finished the bacon. Service was incidental. Enough stops by the table to get the job done. Stopped for lunch. Seated on outside porch. Ordered grilled oysters and crawfish salad. Not disappointed. Oysters done right. Fresh n got. Salad is huge, fresh and enough for two. Love to try more menu items but maybe next trip. Only wish the served coffee. read more

My experience with T-Coon's was really disturbing. I called to order my husband and I breakfast and the hostess was very rude and curt. When I spoke to the manager he was dismissive until my husband got on the phone, then he extended an apology. The food there isn't even good enough to have such subpar customer service. I'm going to give this only three stars because the service was quick for how packed it was. I went on a Sunday morning and it was packed. I got the biscuits and gravy with an egg, and my boyfriend got the breakfast plate with 2 pancakes. First off, it was way over priced. Normally, what one would get on their choice of breakfast was standard, however the quality and quantity was lacking. Bacon was decent but thin. Eggs were greasy. Potatoes were potatoes and not seasoned anyway special. The pancakes were almost 3 dollars a piece and extremely dense, like a flapjack, and possibly made out of biscuit batter. The gravy on the biscuits would have been amazing if they used a well seasoned breakfast sausage instead of what tasted like hamburger meat. The only thing good were the beignets, but like commonly seen around Lafayette they were more like fried donuts. Would I come here again? Maybe for an order of beignets. But, I will most likely stay home and cook breakfast. The food was decent but not worth $30. read more

Great breakfast and wonderful service from Amy. When we lived in Lafayette this was the place to go for breakfast. And it still is. We had homemade sausage. Eggs. Grits and the best gravy ever. It was truly great with a huge container of coffee at the table. Reasonable. Great and homemade. Smothered rabbit is today's special. How can you beat that. read more

I have been here multiple times and had the fried chicken and pork chops. This is a very down home Cajun diner with real food. Nothing processed or made somewhere else and heated up to pass off as original. Cannot wait to go back and try the fried chicken livers. The service was great, everyone was very nice. read more

That was absolutely delicious! A sweet friend and I are in town for a convention, and I found this place on Yelp. I left telling her I'd bring her back a breakfast surprise. T-Coon's is nothing fancy, a typical old school diner type place. I ordered a crawfish omelet with smothered hashbrowns, a side of house made smoked sausage, and an order of beignets. The omelet was seriously perfect, and I'm extremely picky. It was 3 egg but very thin (perfect!) and had tons of crawfish and cheese and was seasoned well. The smothered hashbrowns were probably the best I've ever had, and the sausage was really really good! Beignets were good but a little more doughy than the ones you find in Nola (where I'm from). Definitely would go back and try other stuff! read more

It smelled great - like grandma's kitchen. We came in on the transition from breakfast to lunch, so there was lunch food pot on the serving line plus breakfast still cooking to order. Each of us had an omelet - one crawfish, one pork roast and another kind (that I can't remember), all with cheese (feta cheese with the crawfish). The crawfish tasted like the ones you get at a good crawfish boil, they were spiced well and traditionally and their goodness didn't get lost in the omelet, even with the sharp feta "company" they kept. The pork roast omelet tasted "tamer", but brought back LSU memories of going to the refrigerator and throwing great leftovers from game-day's pig roast into Sunday's omelet., the bread tasted home-made - delicious, warm, and yeasty. We are from Alexandria. I go back to T-Coon's next time I visit my daughter. In fact, I may invent a reason to go see her sooner! read more

This is my favorite place to eat in the city of Lafayette! True Cajun cooking at its best! Excellent southern hospitality, combine with some of the best food you'll ever consume is deserves 5 stars any day in my book! These people can give anything a great taste and make you want more! One of my favorite lunch spot's on mother Earth. Okay, my FAVORITE lunch spot. This is a hometown Cajun staple for locals and tourists to Cajun country alike. You can't go wrong here, form the Acadian basic of steak, rice and gravy to the moist rice dressing and homemade butter rolls, my mouth waters simply thinking of T-Coons, even when I'm full. Good, no GREAT basic Cajun food, revered by locals and in the heart of Cajun Country. It would be a sin if you visited Lafayette and missed it, cher. read more

My hotel recommended this place. It's a casual place that you seat yourself. One side of the restaurant has a cafeteria style. I ordered the crawfish omelet and added spinach. They give a generous amount so come hungry. My food was hot and Farley fast. The biscuits are fresh and yummy. They wrap it to help keep it hot. My dish was very flavorful I didn't have to ad any seasoning. Great comfort food and service. Can't wait to try there lunch read more

Ok. I finally made a stop in here mostly due to the good comments I saw on Yelp. First, if you drive by the place you will notice an old looking storefront in a strip mall off an intersection. The outside could use some updating. Inside, the restaurant is a little dated and rustic, but it has some character and a friendly atmosphere. We came in just before 11am which is the transition time between breakfast and lunch. My wife and I both decided on breakfast. Overall the food was decent but I wasn't blown away. The cooking is all fresh and homemade but the presentation was lacking a bit compared to many of the other local breakfast stops like B & Spoon, Broken Egg, etc. The service was good considering how busy it was and the food came rather quickly, both are pluses. For now, I give the food a 3.5, atmosphere a 3, food and value a 4 and the appearance a 3. That teeters me between a 3 and a 4 and since I wasn't wow'd, I will offer a 3 overall. We will come back and try some of the lunch items which included shrimp, catfish, crawfish, burgers and many sandwich items. read more

Excellent place for breakfast. I got the breakfast plate with their smoked sausage, eggs and grits. Mellow Joy is the coffee brand and its rich flavor is welcome. The beignets are second best in Louisiana (Cafe du Monde is número uno) and they don't scrimp on the powdered sugar. Mr T-Coon himself came out to our table and joked with us and even bussed a dish or too. read more

I am a fan, at least for breakfast. They have great grits, really good coffee, decent beignets, and consistently good eggs. There are a wide variety of breakfast sides though I have only had ham. A friend had their homemade sausage that I sampled and it was very good. It is a funky place, divey and perfect for my needs. I may have breakfast here all week. And they have free wifi perfect for to work while I enjoy a solo breakfast. read more

First off let me give this place the FIVE STARS for having good fulfilling and flavorful GUMBO!!!!!! Now let me get started. Being that I am from New Orleans I had no big expectations for food in Lafayette at All. Sorry, My Mistake Folks! when i tell you walking in you can smell that Aroma of delicious Seasoned food in the air, I thought I was dreaming! I was on overload on all the soulfood dishes that they had I really couldn't choose just one thing so i through a wildcard out and got the gumbo. Now I am always mostly disappointed with this dish because o one does the dish right or it's always missing something. Let me tell you they served the dish Justice Folks!!!! I was so impressed with the flavor I can still taste the aroma on my tongue. I was soooo full!!!! My gumbo came with bread and sweet yams!!! When I tell you a major Plus!!!! I wish I could give the place fingers!!!! I love this gumbo folks!!! I loved the old artifacts and signs on the walls of the place. I had a lot to look at. I's cafeteria style so you walk up get your drink, then let the staff know what you want to eat, then you get food on the tray and you have a seat with the goodness! Really good food folks! Established in 1993.

T-Coons was started by David Billeaud. Prior to opening his restaurant in 1993, had no restaurant experience at all, but grew up surrounded by cooking, after all, there were 9 of us in the family. Both of my parents were excellent cooks.

I opted to make my own omelette with swiss cheese, jalapenos and bell peppers; hashbrowns and a biscuit. They advertise that the biscuits are the "world's best" and I have to say they are VERY good. The hashbrowns were perfectly cooked and I could have eaten a second helping of them. This is a great stop if you're in the area, and I feel like I need to make some regular trips to Lafayette to work my way through the menu.

Just based on how it looked, I would not have expected much from the dish. While I cannot quite pinpoint how it could be improved visually, it simply came across as boring on the plate. That said, the omelette itself was better than expected once I started eating. The bites that included both shrimp and andouille sausage were the strongest and most flavorful parts of the dish. Overall, if I were judging strictly on appearance, my expectations would have been low. Taste wise, I would give the meal about a 6 out of 10. I did notice several other dishes coming out to nearby tables that looked more appealing, so while this order did not fully impress me, I would not rule out returning. Next time, I would likely try something different from the menu.

I've been putting off this update for about 5 months, but it's time…read more I've come to Ema's around 200 times in the last 8 years and during The Covid years we even brought Christmas presents for all the servers. We've had many birthdays, baptism parties and even a funeral gathering here. That said, this was our go to place for a good 5 years, but with the management change (Jeremy is apparently gone as are nearly all the staff that was there for years) and us never seeing Ema, things went downhill. The last few visits had issues and when the last issue happened I ask to speak to the manager. To my surprise, and despite only a few tables of people the manager was "not able" to talk to us. We waited and after about 10 minutes left to never return. I can't recommend this restaurant any longer but there are many new options and if you watch my Top 100 you'll find at least 4 or 5 other excellent restaurants for breakfast and lunch. Sorry Ema, but you've let this place go.

They satisfied my best friend's favorite food group...sugar. We met and talked with the owner, Cody, while we were there. Super, super nice guy! We had a thousand questions and he answered them all while we ate our tasty crepe creations. Or that they argued with the amazing manager for nearly an hour total after being told they couldn't accommodate that size party. They're also leaving out the part where people from their group marched in and seated themselves, stood over occupied tables waiting for guests to leave, insisting the hosts clean the tables, and made the entire restaurant uncomfortable. This had nothing to do with race and everything to do with behavior. Any group acting like that would've gotten the exact same response. In short, do better. Y'all came in and ruined everyone's dinner because y'all don't know how to plan ahead. Stop blaming people for your mistakes and take accountability.

The tempura was well seasoned and the fry was crispy but not dry. We also had the Cream Cheese Wontons, Panfried Colorful Dumplings Combo and Beef Roll. Personally, of the four dumpling fillings, beef was my favorite. All four starters are a good choice, but if you leave without trying the Beef Roll, you are doing yourself a disservice. It was my first time experiencing the food at T-Coon's this morning. The environment is quaint and I felt like I was having breakfast at my own kitchen table. Everything was so amazing! The biscuits melt in your mouth. The potatoes are smothered to perfection. Eggs were cooked perfectly. Beignets were a sweet treat. My daughter had a hamburger with smothered onions. It was on Texas Toast and also a hit with my taste buds! The only thing that was different than anything that I have ever experienced was the oatmeal. It was served in a small bowl with oats that had been "soaked" in water. Milk would have been provided to add accordingly. Lastly, the servers were very accommodating. It was a little over cooked but I used that water down soda to wash it down. The server apologized and offered another drink but my meal was done by then. Use to visit this place 3-4 times a month. I'm glad I did! It was seasoned perfect and the rabbit was pretty tender. Decent portions and it came with two sides. I would not recommend the coleslaw, it was mediocre at best, not much flavor or sauce. The fried food is fried to order so you will have a few minute wait on that but it comes hot, straight from the grease. I'd like to come back and give the breakfast a try. read more
