This is a fantastic place all around. Service is fantastic, the food is phenomenal, and the wine list is pretty fun. The menu is very carefully crafted with amazing flavors and textures. My faves are the clam chowder and the scallops. This place is unassuming and unpretentious, yet serves up high-caliber cuisine. The decor is warm and welcoming and I have to say I love their bathrooms. A weird thing to say, I know, but they provide an array of perfume and cologne if you want to freshen up (either yourself of the unisex stall). Schnitzel is a bit of a specialty for them, and their spaetzle is delightful. I believe they have a lot of regulars. Also, for a time during COVID lockdowns, they were doing a fantastic pickup menu, but I'm not sure they still have that available. The chef/owner is a really great guy, supportive of the local restaurant community and willing to lend a hand. There is a small patio if you'd like to enjoy your meal outside and the patio is super dog friendly. I had the beef rib with prunes over couscous. The appetizer you must try his Brussel sprouts and save room for dessert. His crème brûlée is a true masterpiece. Great service and delicious food. This restaurant was recommended to me by a colleague who knew I was in Sacramento and had been a couple years ago. I ordered a salad for starters, which may have been my favorite part of the meal. The fried chicken was unique from any chicken I had ever tasted. Crispy skin and beautifully tender meat. Once I started, I couldn't stop eating it. The mushroom bread pudding was good, though I was a little disappointed it didn't have more seasoning to add flavor. Also, for an entree - the duck confit did not have enough mashed potatoes or spinach with it. There was less than 2 tablespoons of mashed potatoes. I was so excited to try this place based on all the good reviews, but don't know if I'll give this place another chance. Hello everyone...we met my daughter and fiancé for dinner. Left the doggies at home and headed out for a nice evening walk. Wait, left the doggies home? We had a reservation for 7pm and arrived a little early. We were sat promptly and ordered an appetizer and beverages. The bead and butter served were really good. We ordered a cheese plate and it had everything we wanted. The main course took a bit for arrival but no big deal! It was nice to sit and chat...without the mobile phones. The wife ordered the steak and I had the scallop plate. Perfect indeed... The food portions were perfect and it was nice not to overstuff yourself. One of the best meals and dining experiences I have ever had in Sacramento. The service is top notch. Our waitress was attentive and had great recommendations when it came to wine pairings and desserts. I ordered the special of the night (pan seared scallops with risotto), and my husband had the salmon. As a closer, we shared the lemon pudding cake. We were impressed by the flavors and presentation of our dishes. They were all mouth-watering delicious! Cute and quaint ambiance. I can see having a romantic date at a place like this, however the bathrooms could use a good scrubbing. It doesn't quite fit the feel of the rest of the restaurant. The menu looked really good and I was sad that I could only choose one entree. I came for lunch and had the schnitzel which was fried well and had good flavor. The German potato salad was a little too chunky with all the little add ins. The other lunch specials looked like delicious options and pricing was great. Only $11! I was really excited to try this place. I took a friend there for dinner to celebrate his birthday. I thought I read another reviewer write that they do something special for birthdays as long as you let them know, which I did. However aside from a few awkward birthday related comments they didn't actually do anything to celebrate. We were also seated near the entrance although I made reservations in advance and the place was almost empty when we arrived. It's a small space so it was uncomfortable every time a new party arrived/departed and squeezed past us. During ordering the waiter misheard me when I said I didn't want the starter salad. He brought it anyway and it looked good so I decided not to mention it. It looked like it had a light dressing on it but I didn't taste dressing at all. Overall it lacked flavor. I'm sure the cheese crumbles helped with the flavor but I don't really eat dairy so I avoided them (which is why I wasn't planning on getting the salad in the first place.) My friend and I ordered the duck breast and crispy half fried chicken. The chicken allegedly came with mashed potatoes however, they actually tasted more like a gritty cauliflower purée which also lacked flavor. The chicken itself was excellent. Very flavorful and crispy. The duck was chewy and the sides that came with the duck were lacking in flavor. Overall I wasn't a fan of the duck entree at all. I was asked if we enjoyed our meal and I gave my feedback. The waiter took down my name and phone number and stated the chef wanted to contact me. In light of this I decided to hold off on writing a review but it's been a few weeks now and I haven't been contacted. Potatoes were like country potatoes, crispy outside, pillowy softness inside. Great mix of flavors and textures with the cherry tomatoes and hard-boiled egg. The chimichurri was a little thick, but the flavor was all there. I wasn't a fan of the fries because it wasn't the type I usually like, but my friend loved them. * House Bread * I wasn't expecting much out of free bread, but surprise! It's like they baked them fresh out back. The top had that nice crunch and the fluffiness was of freshly baked bread. Not dense at all. The guy manning the register served us as well. Their cooks don't wear masks or gloves. The guy on the phone was rude and said "they're 6 feet apart so it doesn't matter". I told him that was terrible and I think he got nervous that their secret was out and he hung up on me. Also, they have a dog that is friendly but goes from table to table. I am so happy to have found this awesome place right down the street in Midtown! I've been a few times and so far each time has been better than the last. They are always adding new seasonal items onto the menu- a couple weeks back I had the scallops which were excellent- but tonight the lamb shank stole the show. The wine selection is great and, even better, the entire team is super attentive and more than willing to make suggestions I finished with a delicious dessert wine and a blueberry and salted caramel bread pudding combo. They are perfectly set up for the winter months with heaters outside and lunch dining as well as dinner. 12/10 you have to come here. (Did I mention they have a dog? And dog treats? This review may go up, as it's on the edge of 5 stars. This place is very nice, and service is done right. The owner seems very nice, has a good sense of humor, and is accommodating. The price of the food is lower than expected, while the wine prices are higher than expected. I suppose it balances itself out somewhat. The atmosphere is relaxing and the service is high quality. It's definitely a different experience than most restaurants in Sacramento. Some areas of opportunity may be upgrading the restrooms and adding a few more menu options (if possible). I might also add that there could be a few ways to make the place additionally welcoming for customers when walking in. Still meets about 4.5/5 stars for me at this point in time. read more

I don't like to write unfavorable reviews, really, who does. But this was a failure on several levels. First the food: we ordered two salads and decided to share a cheese plate and one entree. Cesar salad is hard to get wrong. But you can't compromise on the fact that everything has to be fresh, starting with the romaine. Why would you even serve a Cesar if you only had old romaine? We're in the Central Valley of California after all. And so it went with the baby greens salad. They used canned corn! What restaurant do you know of that presents itself as high end but then opens a can of corn? Then there was the risotto, also with canned corn. But they managed to render it into the consistency of grits. We couldn't finish any of our dishes, it was that bad. The insult to injury is when a place like this charges fine dining prices and delivers diner quality food. Honestly, that's insulting to some great diners I've been to. Two people, a light meal of a cheese plate, two salads, and an entree: $145.00. So disappointing. read more

It feels as though they want to push/experiment with high end dining barriers but are holding back for the sake of preserving traditional quality standards Quality 4/5: the quality is definitely there, dishes were well crafted but the food appeared to lack confidence which kept it from becoming a masterpiece. Tablevine definitely deserves a spot as one of the top Sacramento restaurants regardless Scallop Risotto Amazing risotto, one of the best I've had although a few careless drawbacks made it more lackluster than it should be. (too much parsley overshadowed the brilliance of the risotto, scallop tenderness compromised by excessive salt) Duck breast Great juicy fatty duck. Not amazing but very good. NY Steak Steak was a little stringy, a little dry. But the sauce and croquette made up for it. Some of the asparagus was burnt, over salted. The dish felt like a tightrope walker struggling to find balance. Salmon Salmon lacked crispiness, flavor. It tasted as if it had been marinated in milk, not necessarily bad but just not what I consider tasty. The citrus cream sauce was quite good as a standalone but not with the salmon as it muddled the taste of the fish too much, leaving the potato standing out more than the salmon (the potato was baked quite well though). Decor 3/5: a little underwhelming for fine dining. The low ceilings (maybe somewhere between 7-8 ft) make you feel a bit claustrophobic. Also a slightly retro vibe making for a more diner-like feel. Service 5/5: Waiter was great and helped us take photos, made jokes. The chef even came out to chat with us a bit towards the end! Albeit we came towards closing time. They also brought out a complementary slice of their chocolate mousse cake for my dad's birthday! Overall 4/5: everything was great but nothing spectacular. The food overall lacks some finesse but don't get me wrong, it was still very good. Given the relatively cheap price(15-25) it definitely deserves my five stars for Yelp. The location is on the corner of 14th and O street with ample parking available on the street. Quite a cute establishment with a wonderful private room available for parties and intimate gatherings. Our waiter was Ronnie and he was quite personable and answered all our questions thoroughly. We ordered a duck appetizer with sesame soy glaze. I ordered the salmon which was pretty tasty, a little dry for my comfort but still very flavorful. My husband ordered the NY Strip Steak and he enjoyed that because of the texture, moisture and did I mention the potatoes! They had a good number of vegetarian and gluten free options. It sounded like they could sub various items to accommodate those with dietary restrictions as well. I like that their philosophy is very farm to fork, local and authentically northern cal. For dessert, my husband and I enjoyed the pot de cream, a sweet treat for sharing. Corkage fee available if you'd like to bring a bottle. Plethora of wine options available here as well. There's a number of good things about this place but a few not so great things that colored the overall experience. The good stuff first: our server was generally attentive, had excellent table side manner, and was pleasantly (but not over the top) enthusiastic. The interior space is small but comfortable and the menu has a nice range of selections. There also an exceptionally cute dog that walks around the establishment...some may not like this but we found him adorable. The food itself has overall mixed reviews. The brussels sprout starter is perfect for sharing and tastes good. The scallops were also good but there were only 2 smallish ones served. If they are big, 2 is sufficient but the size we received made the portion feel a tad undersized. One of the specials was a sous vide New York steak. It sounded delicious, so we ordered it and requested medium rare. The dish came out overcooked---the meat was a grayish-brown with nothing resembling pink or red in the middle. I had two bites and it was exceptionally chewy. Our friend had the same dish and his had a slight line of pink in the middle but that is still over cooked. While we don't like sending food back, this was clearly not cooked to the requested temperature so we informed the waiter who promptly returned it to the kitchen. An over cooked meal happens--no big deal--but this is the part of the evening that frustrated the whole table. The owner/chef/manager came out and asked us if we knew was sous vide was and stated that because it is a thin cut of meat medium rare will "just come out that way." He allowed us to select new menu items but his condescension and defensiveness was uncalled for. I am not a chef and don't pretend to be, but I know what overcooked meat looks like. I also know what humility looks like and this person was lacking it last night. I don't know if he had a bad day or if he's always that way; regardless, it is not the service that I expect. As for the replacement dishes, the duck was very good but the schnitzel was not. Re: the latter, the tomato seemed excessive and didn't quite fit with the dish. So, an overall mixed food and service experience. Would I go back? Probably no. There are tons of independent restaurants in the Sacramento area and I want to support those that treat me with a modicum of respect. read more

Made bro take me here for my annual birthday lunch where he pays. Heck yeah, I ain't missing that! Tried the burger with bleu cheese and fig...reduction? Spread? Compote? In any case, it was fig and it was delicious. Although not grass-fed, the burger was tender, tasty and substantial. With a side of fresh fries (I try to avoid frozen whenever possible), it was in my opinion one of the best $10 burgers I had experienced. The chef came out to ask how the food was and have a chat, something that I always appreciate. The ambiance is classic with white linen tablecloths and the service, while personable and professional is not as speedy as some may want. Don't come here if you have a limited amount of time for lunch - an hour and a bit would suffice. I am definitely coming back to try out their dinner menu! read more

Absolutely a delightful evening. We were celebrating our anniversary. Dan and Maurice were fantastic hosts. We visited on a Wednesday and were seated outdoors right next to a parking meter. (Dan assured me that I did not have to feed the meter.) We were the only guests that evening - remember this is during the lockdown period for the coronavirus. The menu is eclectic - French, Italian, German, American... We both chose the pork schnitzel. It was done to perfection - crisp, not oily and with a Meyer Lemon sauce. Great portion and not too filling. All entrees were right around $20. The wine list is a short book. Wonderful choices that would go with any of the foods on the menu. We had a fabulous 2011 Riesling. Dessert was a fresh peach cobbler. Wonderful evening. Great staff! Very tasty food. Definitely worth a visit. We will be back. read more

so many incredible meals there. this thanksgiving, last minute needing meals to go. we were accommodated and so surprised by the presentation. meals to go often lack in the packaging, etc. not table vine. more like a gourmet picnic from a napa valley place, everything was perfect. the three course traditional thanksgiving meal were in fact four courses. each better than the last, clever pumpkin soup, the perfect green salad and on to the main. delicious deep fried turkey with all the trimmings. very generous proportions causing a delay for dessert later. this holiday, we were so thankful for the best of meals: dan and his staff never cease to amaze and we were blessed to have such a great day. read more

I had their special scallops with mushroom risotto. The scallops were cooked to perfection and the mushroom risotto was scrumptious! My husband had the jaeger schnitzel vom schwein which is a pork cutlet with mushroom sauce served with potato's with a turnip'ie sauce. He really enjoyed it and I thought it was quite delicious also. The waiter who was also the host was awesome! He was very pleasant and very knowledgeable about the wines and suggested the perfect pairing for our dishes. He was very gracious and let me substitute the mushroom risotto with the risotto and peas that came with my scallops. The food took a while to come out, but that's probably because they are making to order and it was Valentine's Day so you might want to plan on having a little longer than usual lunch when you come here during lunch hour. It is a very small, cozy and quaint place. It's also situated in a corner of a more quiet street in midtown. It has a very homie feel as the chef came out and talked to various tables that appeared to be regulars there. The menu was very well priced. Overall, great good, great service & great ambiance! I was looking forward to going here on Friday (June 10) because I had heard good reviews from people at work. However, I was met with a condescending server who practically rushed my partner and I out the door. Before going, I made sure to check online for the business hours, if we needed to make reservations ahead of time, and the dress code (which, online noted the closing time was 9 PM, reservations weren't listed as mandatory for 2 people, and noted the dress code was casual). We showed up around 7:10 PM, thinking that was almost 2 hours before close. However, we weren't helped for a few minutes, then 1 server (who was nice) asked us if we had been helped and said he'd look for a table for us. As he was looking, a second server (the one who was condescending) said we couldn't be helped because the kitchen was closed. I said that I didn't know, then he proceeded to push us towards the door while saying we should've made a reservation- which, I replied we didn't know it was mandatory for 2 people. After we were pushed out, he merely handed me a business card and closed the door on us. As someone who has worked in food service my whole life, I understand the need to close the kitchen early (plus, with current staff shortages, that further exacerbates the issue). If the 2nd server had just said something along the lines of "Oh I'm sorry, our kitchen already closed," I totally get it and wouldn't have left this review. However, the 1 star is for the condescending demeanor from the server while being pushed out the door. I'll probably stick with other places that serve wine around the area (I heard R Street has good places too). read more

My friend and I came to celebrate her during our lunch time. We were given bread and butter. It was soft and delicious. We were given the option of natural or sparking water. We ordered the garlic hand cut-twice fries with lemon aioli as an appetizer. The garlic fries was a big serving. I think it is enough for three to four people to share because you don't want to get too full before the main entree. The fries were okay. I decided to order the special of the day which were three tacos. When I received my tacos I noticed a hair on one of my tacos. The waiter took one of the tacos back and replaced it with a fresh taco. The tacos were pretty good. The tortillas were fresh and crispy. The meat was well seasoned. I wish they had given us more lime and a little more salsa to give it more of a kick but the flavor was definitely there. My friend ordered the TableVine Caesar with grana padano, anchovy, lemon, and garlic croutons. There was hardly any dressing on the salad. It took me a while to get the attention of the waiter since he was the only one there. I asked him for extra dressing and he only brought us one just for me to put on part on my salad. We couldn't get his attention to give us another one for my friend so she just ate her salad with minimum dressing. I was super excited to eat here because of all of the amazing reviews but my experience did not live up to the experiences of other yelpers. read more
