I have the great fortune of being in near distance to some great wine bars, but Tabula Rasa is my favorite neighborhood option for several reasons. First, I'll start with the casual yet stylish vibe of the place. From the lighting to the wood furniture, this bar is both inviting yet with an air of mystery and intimacy that makes it great for either a casual meetup or a romantic date. The back patio is also an excellent place to host small groups, though be warned: you may get a whiff of secondhand smoke if you're out there. The happy hour offers a great selection of wines by the glass, and the food menu offers some tasty small bites. I was most excited to try the pretzel, but my favorite item so far has been the Cuban sandwich. This meaty delight combines roast pork, ham, cheese, mustard, and a spicy relish that I found quite tasty. My favorite neighborhood bar. Jazz on Sundays, wine tasting on Wednesdays, and a record player with great tunes. The sommeliers are super nice, and it's a great place to go and just read a book and decompress. I went here on a first date once, and it was magical. They also had a "Sip and Scribble" night for a bit, for sipping wine and doing art projects. Would love to see that come back! read more

This place has nice ambience (low lit, a little moody and cozy) when it isn't at full capacity. They have a broad selection of wine and beer, and some really nice food options (the charcuterie board gets two solid thumbs up). Overall I think this bar is pretty great and super convenient as far as neighborhood spots go-- the only thing I dislike here is the inability to hear anything as soon as there is a crowd/full bar. I know that's kind of inevitable, but wine bars should have a quieter vibe (and many others in town do). Seems like someone on the staff should adjust the music lower as more people cram in, since everyone was shouting over the music anyway. read more

After initially placing a food and drink order at the bar (2 food items), we were seated and got out first food item brought to our table. After finishing the first round of drinks, I went to place a second drink order at the bar. I nicely asked the waiter if he can check on our second food item we had ordered to just make sure they didn't forget it since the first item had come out a while ago. He checked and said they're working on it and I said thank you. He asked how long ago I got the first food item and I said I don't know maybe 10-15 minutes ago. He then proceeded to say I was "full of shit". I was thrown off because I wasn't complaining or giving any sort of attitude. I just wanted to make sure they didn't miss the order. I couldn't tell maybe he was joking or not but it didn't seem like a joke and it was my first time interacting with him so it's not like we had a joking rapport. Tabula Rasa has very unique wines such as the Porta del Vento Sparkling Orange and Chilled Roug'e Claire Grenache. The kindest, chic-est neighborhood bar ever. Somehow it's both elevated date night spot and perfect every day hang. The staff behind the bar are always eager to give wine suggestions and samples. I've even given them prompts like "I want a red that's dark and good for when your tummy hurts" and they've absolutely nailed it. Nothing snobby, nothing too expensive, just gorgeous wines and atmosphere. A beautiful space with great staff, great music on vinyl, cool female djs on a Saturday night and a more mature crowd. Isn't it a blessing when all the patrons act right? quaint, cute, and collected. Great curated selection of beers and wine. My friend and I shared a large bottle of strawberry lambic. We also ordered the plate of peanuts with pickled veggies and the philly cheesesteak sandwich. The peanuts were really tasty because they were drenched in that pickled juice and the sandwich had a generous helping of meat and was large enough to be split between the two if us. The night that we went was also Pizza pop-up night so thats pretty cool that they have daily specials. You never now what surprise you will get. Came here on a Saturday evening and it was cool. It's a neighborhood bar in Thai town, reasonably nondescript but it looks much better inside than out. As you can see in the photos, there's a giant really cool wood carved world mural thing which was nice to look at. I love the vibe here, so chill and quiet enough that you can actually talk to people, take people you want to talk to here because you'll have the ability to do so. Seating was comfortable and plentiful, not crazy busy that you have to wait to stand at the bar and order a drink, just really perfect for a chill evening. I got a glass of the orange pinot grigio and was very excited but it was just OK, couldn't really taste orange though it was a very pretty color. They have some food available but by no means an extensive menu, we got a farro salad, a hot pretzel and some sandwich or burger that was not memorable. I think the best was probably the pretzel and salad, though the portion was very small for the salad. Parking was easier than I thought, they had enough metered parking. read more

We were sitting at the counter and talked to the Barkeeper about the different wines, he also let us taste different types to take the right choice. An unassuming and dimly lit wine bar with an impressive list of wine and craft brews located between Thai Town and Los Feliz. They have live jazz Sundays at 7pm and other live music Tuesdays also at 7pm. Their kitchen stays open until last call every night! A couple friends took me here for my birthday on a Sunday jazz night and all three of us really enjoyed our time here. The service was excellent and the two gentlemen who helped us were knowledgeable and affable. They had great recommendations on champagne and wine for us. We paired it with the marinated olives- simple, but delicious. Their happy hour is between 5-7pm when they offer $2 off wine and beer by the glass and a short but delectable list of fare which I believe changes when they change their food menu based on availability and season. As of July 2018, they are currently offering the following items during happy hour: 1. D's Nuts and Pickles: (I hope you caught the word play there and I hope this item stays on the menu forever just because of the name lol)which are salty corn nuts and pickles. 2. Hot Soft Pretzel: served with champagne garlic and Hong Kong habanero mustards. 3. Cuban Sandwich: made with ham, roast pork, Estero Gold cheese, mustard and spicy pickles. 4. Burrata Condimenti: made with DeStefano burrata, grilled sourdough bread, aged balsamic, pomegranate, pepitas, pear chutney, and Yuba olive oil (I'm hungry now after writing this description- I hear this is a winner). 5. Ice Cream Sunday: McConnell's vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, chopped almonds, rainbow sprinkles and a cherry on top. Can't go wrong with Mcconnell's ice cream! Speaking of food, right outside the bar to the right (if you're facing the bar from the street) is the Ol' Skool BBQ stand on Sundays. A customer came in with a large to-go box heaping with bound-to-be-messy bbq ribs and mentioned that the bbq establishment works with the bar. The food looked delicious. Jazz and bbq. Both great reasons to come on a Sunday night. I can't speak on parking since we Lyfted here, but it's Los Angeles. Assume you'll have to drive around to find a parking spot you're forced to pay for. Just Lyft or Uber it. Trust me. Oh, ask about The Wheel behind the bar. I hope you get the same responses the 5'7"ish brunette bartender gentleman with the pretty blue eyes gave me. Tip: you'll want to be here Saturdays for The Wheel. That's all I know. The Wheel is kind of a big deal apparently. Ask about their secret barrel-aged/sour menu. ;) read more
