I think it's crazy this woman is allowed to work in LA. Threatened to sic security on me and my party because I asked for a soda to open up a tab. She already screamed at us for accidentally bringing in an outside drink security didn't initially stop us for but then she came to our table, slammed her hands down and tried to kick us out for not having said tab. We were there for a birthday and signed up for karaoke but since she seemed so bothered in the first place we wanted to wait for the bar to settle down a little. As an LGBT/POC, this bartender is so weird. 1 I'm not interested in women so acting out for a soda was weird. 2 as POC she was short from threatening to call ICE to get us out. 3. As a follow-up to both 1 & 2, when asked why, she said I was yelling at her. It was loud, I spoke loud. I reminded that she had been screaming at us the entire time. This dynamic??? Weird, POC have been on the receiving end of violence for lies like these. Another friend wrote about this experience 7/8 and it seems the burgundy room is hiding that review from Google. Makes me wonder what else they've been hiding. read more

This bar is almost a landmark in Hollywood. It's kind of iconic. Also, this is one of these places that you need to adjust expectations. It's a proper dive bar...which means the bathrooms are a mess, late at night people are drunk and sloppy, they don't have mixologists or anything fancy and it's fairly small. All that beating said, again, it's iconic. A great pace for a drink after catching a show at the Hotel Cafe if you really want a rock and roll vibe. For a real feel of old Hollywood/rick n roll LA...this is your place! You half expect Jim Morrison to be sitting in the booth behind you. It's just one of those places. We happened to be there 2 nights in a row because of events in surrounding areas and the first night-a Friday, the bartender...she had an AMAZING playlist that completely fit the vibe do the bar...classic rock, 90s rock ballads, amazing! It really enhanced the whole feel of the place. Second night, different bartender...jams not as good which did kill it a little. If you're looking for a tiny dive bar with a great vibe, look no further. This place is TINY and easy to pass by if you aren't looking for it... which is exactly what I live about it. The people are there because they WANT to be there. I was there on 90s night and the drink specials were all fantastic (for example- the 'Two Princes' was a PBR and a well shot of your choice. Who doesn't love a Spin Doctors reference?) The staff was super friendly and attentive, my drink was never empty for long and the prices were surprisingly reasonable for the location. I almost want to rate this place low just to keep it off of the radar, but that'd be dishonest. read more

I've been coming to this place since I moved to L.A. ( = a long time). It used to have a punk rock vibe - edgier - with guys and old school mohawk cuts. The place has changed since then - a bit more mellow but still a Hollywood classic. It is one of my favorite places to start, end, or spend the whole evening. Music is always perfect (from Iggy Pop, Bowie, Smiths, White Stripes, and beyond) drinks are good and cheap, and the interior is always dark, red and moody. Refused to give me an explanation why at first, but later admitted that BOTH BARTENDERS wanted me to leave (and I quote what Torrance said) due to "THE COLOR OF MY SKIN." I was NOT inappropriate/harassing anybody, and I was NOT intoxicated. In fact, bouncer let me finish my one and only drink before kicking me out. I talked to three people at the bar: the bouncer, the bartender, and the person next to me ask if the seat was taken. That's it. The rest of the time I was on my phone and sipping my drink minding my own business. I was there a total of about 30 mins before being told to leave. DO NOT RECOMMEND. TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. Burgundy Room has been my go-to bar in Hollywood for a while now. The place is dark and intimate and rarely too crowded (or too empty). With its more alt-leaning music selection, it tends to a draw a different type of crowd than the surrounding bars and clubs. One I enjoy a lot more. The drinks are strong and reasonably priced. Service is top-notch and super fast compared to other bars. I always enjoy coming in and talking with whoever is working. Especially Mike and Taylor! I've been coming here on and off for years. It's a perfect dive just off Hollywood Blvd with non-Hollywood prices. The ambiance is dark with a red glow coming from several of the same colored lights all over the bar. It can be crowded on the weekends, but the staff are always friendly and work quickly to make sure everyone gets what they need. On weekdays, it's more chill, and the music follows a theme from a different decade each night. There's also a silent dim movie from the coinciding decade playing over the front booth. Most of these weeknights bartender Taylor (long dark hair) is in charge of the movie, music, and drinks. She does it all and couldn't be more friendly while doing so! read more
