Tabula Rasa has been on my list for a long time and I have to say they have a great wine selection. Even though we didn't opt for a bottle their by-the-glass selection was varied and there was something for everyone. The guy behind the bar even let us try some orange wine on the house since we'd never tried it before! Super cool guy who we ended up chatting with for some of the night. An unassuming and dimly lit wine bar with an impressive list of wine and craft brews located between Thai Town and Los Feliz. They have live jazz Sundays at 7pm and other live music Tuesdays also at 7pm. Their kitchen stays open until last call every night! A couple friends took me here for my birthday on a Sunday jazz night and all three of us really enjoyed our time here. The service was excellent and the two gentlemen who helped us were knowledgeable and affable. They had great recommendations on champagne and wine for us. We paired it with the marinated olives- simple, but delicious. Their happy hour is between 5-7pm when they offer $2 off wine and beer by the glass and a short but delectable list of fare which I believe changes when they change their food menu based on availability and season. As of July 2018, they are currently offering the following items during happy hour: 1. D's Nuts and Pickles: (I hope you caught the word play there and I hope this item stays on the menu forever just because of the name lol)which are salty corn nuts and pickles. 2. Hot Soft Pretzel: served with champagne garlic and Hong Kong habanero mustards. 3. Cuban Sandwich: made with ham, roast pork, Estero Gold cheese, mustard and spicy pickles. 4. Burrata Condimenti: made with DeStefano burrata, grilled sourdough bread, aged balsamic, pomegranate, pepitas, pear chutney, and Yuba olive oil (I'm hungry now after writing this description- I hear this is a winner). 5. Ice Cream Sunday: McConnell's vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, chopped almonds, rainbow sprinkles and a cherry on top. Can't go wrong with Mcconnell's ice cream! Speaking of food, right outside the bar to the right (if you're facing the bar from the street) is the Ol' Skool BBQ stand on Sundays. A customer came in with a large to-go box heaping with bound-to-be-messy bbq ribs and mentioned that the bbq establishment works with the bar. The food looked delicious. Jazz and bbq. Both great reasons to come on a Sunday night. I can't speak on parking since we Lyfted here, but it's Los Angeles. Assume you'll have to drive around to find a parking spot you're forced to pay for. Just Lyft or Uber it. Trust me. Oh, ask about The Wheel behind the bar. I hope you get the same responses the 5'7"ish brunette bartender gentleman with the pretty blue eyes gave me. This gem has been open for a few years now. Its very simple yet beautiful on the inside. Hs a small patio outside, long bar seating, and it is larger than it looks from outside. They have a good wine selection, unique beers, and their pretzels are delicious. There is no parking just like most business in the area, regardless you shouldn't drive to a bar. The moment I walked into this bar after a long day at work, I loved it. It's dark and cozy with warm lighting and buzzy jazz playing in the background. All the staff were super friendly, and I liked the laidback feel of the bar - you order at the bar, you find your own seat. All the food and drinks we had were incredible. My friend and I enjoyed the Hibiscus Rose Sour beers and split the burrata plate, tri-tip cheeseburger and chocolate mousse. The burrata plate was FANTASTIC with its oozing cheese, topped with toasted sunflower seeds and accompanied by crackly sourdough bread and sweet pear chutney. Let's be real: this stretch of Hollywood Boulevard is a bit gritty. There are liquor stores, check cashing outfits, Armenian hair salons galore, the most depressing Mexican restaurant I think I've ever been to (yes, Pollo Dorado, I'm talking about you), about a hundred thousand Thai restaurants, massage parlors that are open until 2am (hmm), pay-by-the-hour motels with waterbeds and adult movies (hmm), and sometimes, if you're lucky, someone shooting up on the sidewalk. Tabula Rasa is a gem among the grit. It's a small neighborhood wine bar that is sufficiently sophisticated without feeling snooty or patrician. It's housed in a cool old commercial building, probably from the '20s, complete with dim lights and exposed brick walls. There is plenty of bar seating, but there are also a few tables and even a handful of tables outside. The bartenders (or maybe I should say sommeliers) are knowledgeable and chill. Last time I was in they let me sample a few beers on tap before making a selection, which is one of those little gestures that can make a lasting impact. The crowd is pretty typical Los Feliz: young-ish (mostly 20s and 30s), hip, casually but thoughtfully dressed, and bohemian. It's a nice place to come at the end of the day, chill with friends, and unwind. As far as drinks go, they serve wine and several varieties of craft beer and ciders. Everything I've tried has been quite good and reasonably priced. I recently had some sort of sour dark cherry cider that was like heaven in a glass. Oh man, this place is the best. Incredibly nice, knowledgeable staff and super chill crowd. Feels like you're party of the family when you hang out here. Tabula Rasa is great little escape in Thai town. The menu, which seems to be expanding with time, is super tasty, and the wine and beer list is perfect -- without being $$$$ or pretentious. If you've got some time before or after dinner at one of the nearby strip-mall restaurants, this is great spot for a drink. This place has a more classy/romantic/"cool" ambiance than most of those places do. The staff seem to know about finding the right kind of music for the crowd, too. I had the King kong rosè and idk what else lol. I loved the Rosè my husband tried their reds and honestly we loved each wine from here. We went on a Sunday night not super packed plenty of sitting areas. Its grate for date night, girls night they have small food plates. I decided to try the Cuban sandwich based on the reviews, it was okay. I would not order again when visiting again one one person working so it could be the reason. Taste was good however the breaded was left to long toasting and it didn't seem freshly made. Love the new bar in the neighborhood! Came here on a busy Saturday night and easily found a seat. It's very quaint and has great beer & wine options. Tried their pretzel with mustard and it was also great. The owners made a point to say hello and they were very kind. You can tell they really care about their customers.
