Taco Bamba is in Rockville! I went the 2nd week they've been open and the whole experience was pretty smooth... worst part was the line to get to the register. I waited in line for 25 mins to get to the register. After that, the food was ready in about 5 mins. This was on Sunday evening at 7pm. I think that's pretty good for a place that already has a lot of popularity from their VA location. The wait time for your food also depends on what you're getting but it seems like that have the tacos down pretty good. This location has a bunch of indoor and outdoor seating. Food: So many things to try but this time we just got tacos: Pescado, Black Pearl, Taco Bamba, Breakfast taco. I love a fish taco so Pescado and Black Pearl are my faves. I had high hopes for the Breakfast taco but the chorizo overpowers everything that it just ends up being a chorizo taco. Tacos are normal size tacos, not small. I would say 2 tacos is probably good for a normal person, especially if you want to get an app or a fun side dish to share. There are a lot of other menu items that are NOT tacos so I'm excited to try those out. The Bamba fries look awesome. read more

It's really good and full of flavor but we got food poisoning from here in Jan 2024. We used to go all the time and never had issues but will not be able to go back. May have been cross contamination because my husband had the torta and I had 2 vegetarian tacos. This was the only restaurant we ate at that day and the only food items that overlapped between the two of us. read more

I tend to judge Taco Bamba locations by their sauces (since it's one of the constant signatures), and 2 of my favorite sauces are a little off. The green mild one isn't quite uniformly blended and less chunky, and the 2nd spice level up is less smoky and too salty. However their spiciest was reliably pleasantly smooth, creamy and umami-y, tomatoey, with a lingering spice! Also their bathroom was about as grunge as their soundtrack. Ample booth (in the back), bar (standing and seated), and table (a few at the front and several outdoors) at this location, and alcohol. We tried 4 never-tasted-before dishes and my main takeaway was: don't sleep on those non-taco dishes!!! +++ Posole Verde felt so gourmet. I could just drink the green broth straight with the fresh sliced onion on top and was in heaven just from that but then you run your spoon on the bottom and get chunks of pork and big exploded Incan(?) corn kernels. This ain't it, fam. They ought to rename it Taco Abomination. Seriously. Horrible from start to finish. It's a bad sign when exactly NO Latino folks are in line or eating at a taco joint. It doesn't help that people have to essentially SHOUT their orders to the ONE person behind the register, since they play hard rock and heavy rap at a migraine-inducing volume. Put in your order. Then, you wait. And wait. And wait some more. It's literally four guys cooking and assembling ALL the orders in a super crowded restaurant, and you have to wait while they do online orders to top it all off. Food finally comes and they cram all the tacos they can into one boat, mixing the toppings. You will find a huge load of orange grease at the bottom of your boat. Barbacoa--dry and bland. The barbacoa at Chipotle is LIGHT YEARS better in terms of flavor, moisture and texture, which says a lot. The taco bamba was just meh. The four salsas they offer at the bar are pretty bad. The Mrs. Hogan is a mess. Bitter and nasty. How can they serve tacos that are simultaneous dried out meat AND greasy? The mind boggles. Orange sauce tastes like marinara sauce-with a little kick. Taco Bamba is seductive. It has flavor and it has flare...your kids yell, "we love Taco Bamba!" After the first bite, but then they keep eating and you keep eating and you realize that you can eat it all, because there is way too much salt and way too much oil. I want to love Taco Bamba, but let's face it, they are in direct competition with Fish Taco and overall Fish Taco delivers a better dinning experience with yummier + healthier food. This was my first dine-in experience and I'd 100% go back. I ordered the black pearl, lengua, and the turkish wrestler, all of which I definitely recommend. I also sat at the bar which was a nice experience to drink and eat tacos. The food came out pretty quick too. The only reason why I didn't give a 5 is because I wasn't a huge fan of the Margarita del Dia and would probably go back to try one of the other cocktails on the menu (and try another one of their tacos) so this may change depending on my next visit. read more

Taco Bamba - AMAZING tacos, spicy queso, decent margaritas, and the restaurant is conveniently located on Rockville Pike. HOWEVER - they are seriously lacking in space. Went by Taco Bamba for lunch this lovely Friday to grab food and drinks with work friends. The bar was packed, and all outside seating was taken. Due to COVID I was not comfortable sitting at a booth indoors with my mask off, so outdoor seating was really our only option. We finally snagged a table outdoors that wasn't technically Taco Bamba's seating but right next to their tables. We proceeded to get yelled at by a staff member for sitting there in a very unkind manner. I found it very rude and unfortunate that this happened, especially since we treated all the staff with kindness. If I could have been sitting their section I would. Would they rather lose my business?? I frequent this restaurant and was so disheartened to be treated so harshly by their work staff. As I said before, the food is really good. The drinks are good. First time at this location. I just love this place! The menu is well organized, prices are reasonable and the customer service at this location was a lot better than the one I visited in VA. It took me a while to post this review that I forgot which picture represented which taco, so to help I'll just say that I've tried the Chicharrón, the shrimp, the steak and the goat meat tacos. A big fan of Chef/Proprietor Victor Albisu and Chef de Cuisine Faiz Ally's Del Campo as well as Poca Madre and Taco Bamba (since the concept's debut in Falls Church), my dining companion and I were thrilled to see them bring their globally-inspired taqueria to Rockville. While we enjoyed trying a variety of their Tacos in the opening weeks, we started to find the unsung gems of Taco Bamba: the Tortas. Then, thanks to our bartender, Lauren, we explored perhaps the strength of the restaurant: the Non-Tacos and Cocktails. Lauren generously provided us with samples of their frozen/cold fruit-centric cocktails and gave us terrific recommendations on a number of what have become some of our newest favorite dishes! Among the tacos, our favorites are the "Mrs. Hogan" (Pork Galbi, Kimchi-Bacon Fried Rice, Cucumber, Radish, and Gochujang), "Faruda Fried Chicken" (Za'atar Spiced Chicken, Tehina Mango Ketchup, Yogurt, Dill, Mint, Fresno), and the Carne Asada Taco Tradicional "Dirty Style" (Grilled Onions, Crispy+Melted Chihuahua Cheese, Sweet Chili Sauce, Cilantro). The first is a lovely harmony of savory, sweet, and spicy--an outstandingly executed interpretation of a Korean Barbecue-inspired taco! The second is a Middle Eastern-inspired taco that is well-seasoned while lightly sweet and mild. The third is just the right mix of texture, savory notes, and richness to accent the outstanding seared beef! Equally as good on a "Dirty Style" Taco, the Carne Asada works beautifully for the Torta Tradicional (black beans, lettuce, tomato, jalapeno, avocado, mayo). The abundance of beef, crisply-griddled bread, and very complementing fillings make for a hearty lunch for one (or even a lighter one when shared by two!). While the fillings provide nice moisture for the beef, the brothy Birria (Braised Goat) is equally enjoyable in an inverse role of providing an abundance of rich juices! Whether it is with the tacos or tortas, Taco Bamba's salsas add a palate-cleansing accent worth exploring. Our favorite is the mild Salsa Verde (green tomatillo, avocado, cilantro, and jalapeño-based) because it is lightly creamy and works well with practically everything! A close second is the medium-spicy, orange-hued Taquera (roasted tomato, garlic, onion, and cilantro) because it provides a sharper note for the heartier dishes. The "XXX" was surprisingly pleasant (not too spicy) with a nice blend of habañero and naturally fruity aroma of pineapple. Of course, the most impressive of all dishes were the "Bamba Wings" (chili-garlic version) and Tajín-Dusted Fried Calamari with the Chipotle-Dusted Chicharrones (pork rinds) a solid third in category. The wings are chili-brined, grilled, and fried to the perfectly-rendered doneness, juicy, meaty, and full of flavor with a wonderful accent of green onions, Cotija Cheese, and cilantro. My DC succinctly declared them to be the BEST WINGS WE HAVE EVER HAD! The fried calamari was a close second as they were a dance of flavors, from the delicious squid itself to the refreshing slivers of green onions to the sweet accents from the candied Fresno and pickled jalapeño peppers. These two dishes are stylistically spiritual inheritors of Del Campo and Poca Madre in that they reflect fine dining quality, execution, and composition! The third non-taco star is the puffed pork rinds, which arrived still crackling and complemented with limes. They are a nice salty complement for either the tacos, booze, or solo as an elevated version of potato chips! Speaking of drinks, knowing that we were interested in the "Isth Fayn" (Frozen Tequila, Strawberry, Passion Fruit, and Lime), "Red Rooster" (Frozen Mezcal, Watermelon Juice, and Lime), and the "Margarita del Día" (Mezcal, Mango, Thai Basil, and Lime), Lauren generously provided us with a sample of each. While the second had optimal sweetness, we decided on the first and third because they were the most complementary in terms of flavors and characteristic of their predominant fruit's notes. All in all, Taco Bamba Rockville is a fantastic culinary beacon in a neighborhood that is finally growing into its potential! From a light bite of tacos to hearty meal of tortas to an impromptu Happy Hour of fruit-based cocktails and fancy non-tacos, Taco Bamba is surprisingly versatile for a variety of occasions! read more

My boyfriend and I loved the DC location, from what we remembered, so we were excited that taco bamba opened in Rockville. The margarita bamberas were good, and the very nice bartender made them up super quick and added chili salt per our request. The guacamole was lacking seasoning/flavor, so it was ok, you do get a good amount of it plus the chips. We both got el gringo tacos, arabe tacos, and mrs hogan tacos. The gringo is alright, just a cheeseburger taco, but SO saucy and messy, extremely greasy. The arabe was our favorite, but still was pretty average on flavor. Mrs hogan was not good at all, lacked flavor and sauce, and was very dry. They have a help yourself salsa bar, we tried all of them, super fresh and good with their chips. The interior looks great, but they were BLASTING punk rock screamo music which really killed the vibe! Either lower the volume or change the music type, just my two cents. The staff were all very friendly and our food came out quickly, for what that's worth! We might come back for some margaritas and try something else on the menu, but won't be ordering any of the food we got this time again. read more

I moved back here after nearly 20 years in California and one of a few laments was the dearth of good Mexican food. There is a fine assortment of Latin food but the Mexican food specifically in MoCo has been underwhelming. That is, until Taco Bamba came into my life. They have a wide, progressive and creative menu but it's all about the tacos here for me. They're excellently flavored and presented, nice to look at and nicer to eat. I like the staples here like carne asada, al pastor, tinga, chorizo, and cameron. I could just live off those with maybe an occasional touch of their salsa verde. They're all expertly done. But where it gets interesting is their unique taco creations. I love the MoCo Crab, Mrs Hogan, and of course the Bamba. These are heartier, richer and will fill you up a lot faster than the traditional tacos, BTW. At some point, I'll try other things beyond the tacos but for now, I'm pretty sated. read more

Yeah... these tacos were terrible and the enchiladas were pretty salty. I ordered the camaron and the fauda fried chicken both came highly recommended by our cashier. Our cashier described a few dishes as "roll your eyes in the back of your head" delicious and let me tell you...that absolutely did NOT HAPPEN. Chicken was old and dry...shrimp tasted like it was boiled in simply water. The enchiladas side sauce was great! Not sure I would go all the way out there for that sauce because the food is a no. The horchata is also okay. It was extremely grainy, they needed to strain it more because it had a thick paste at the bottom ( I shook it up so much it was my workout for the day). I guess I'll never find good horchata I noticed a cook pull his mask down, wipe his nose with his gloves and never changed them, and prepared other people's food with the SAME GLOVES. This is my second time coming to this place! My sister moved close and we wanted some tacos. The line was long but it's well worth the wait! They have traditional tacos build your own and taco's that they made up too! Everything I've had there so far has been really good! I've been to this location many times, this is the first time I would say I was completely disappointed in not only the customer service, but as my husband said, it wasn't their best food offering either. I went in to pick up my to go order and ordered a drink from the bar. The server behind the bar was simply not it. Her energy, her attitude, all of it said, I am not here for customer service. The concern is that you're working customer service, so you have to be. I was tired and I thought I was imagining it, but I wasn't. I probably would steer clear of that bartender, just for the unnecessary attitude alone. To the food: we ordered our normal, random assortment of tacos, everything from the shrimp, fish, chicharron, Mrs. Hogan, they were all just OK. Proteins seem to be slightly more overdone the normal, the tortillas were a bit tougher than normal, and overall the flavors didn't marry like they normally so I'm giving three stars. It won't prohibit me from coming back but may be awhile until I do. Sigh. read more

The drinks and service were incredible, and I had a pleasant time sitting at the bar. They have a vast selection of Mexican food, and the tacos are to best. This location could have been better. Upon entering, we saw a large crowd of either waiting for their meal or standing in line to order. I was expecting to see and feel the vibe I got from their DC sister location, but was disappointed. I waited about 10 minutes to get to the cashier and about 15 minutes for my food. For starters, I only ordered two traditional tortas de carne asada with no jalapenos. The torta was okay. I tasted more mayonnaise than I did the beans. There were also jalapeños in my torta. I didn't complain because I didn't feel like waiting for my order to be ready. The portion size was decent; it was smaller compared to the traditional tortas I've eaten in their DC and VA locations. For example, the torta bread used to be more round, this one looked more like a sub. As for the ambiance, while it was nice to hear rock n roll playing in the background. It's hard for it to fit with the establishment's name "Taco Bamba". I kind of expected to hear Spanish music. This was something the DC location was known for, at least, when I frequented there. I could have also arrived at a time when they music station was changed. I was also thrown off when I saw that all the agua frescas and even the horchata were bottled. Great authentic tacos. There are so many things to choose from on the menu and so many salsa option ranging from mild to xxx (extremely hot). The xxx salsa you will have to ask them for as it is not out to take. I love how this place also as a bar. I think this is a great addition to this area. The people there are so nice. The worker even asked if I wanted him to explain all the different types of salsa for me while I was looking at the sign. The tacos are delicious. I got the carne asada, carnitas and Tinga. One of the best tacos places I had in a while! Place was packed but managed to snag some seats by the bar. Ordered the coconut mezcal drink which was delicious. For food I got the Arabe, spicy shroom, and moco crab taco. So much flavor in each bite. Arabe was my favorite. Spicy shroom is spicy! So I wouldn't add any more sauce to it unless you can handle it. Decent - not amazing - specialty taco joint new to Rockville that I had been looking forward to trying for months. Props to management, first of all, for avoiding a rocky start as so many popular new restaurants tend to do. The place was packed when I placed my order but I still received it in fairly short order. The food itself ranged from mediocre to pretty good. I got one Mrs. Hogan, one Taco Bamba, and one al pastor along with an order of chips and queso. The chips, which they keep in bags by the register, were cold and quite stale. Definitely would have preferred if they kept them in some sort of heater. The queso was terrible. Way too thick, a bit too spicy, and tasted like cheap cheese. Will definitely never get that again. The Mrs. Hogan taco (essentially a Korean taco) was easily the best thing I ordered. Meat was cooked and seasoned well, not too heavy on the gochujang, and the veggies on top were fresh and crisp. Loved this one and will likely return just to eat it again. The Taco Bamba, which was supposed to have guacamole on it, had none. What I did have was a lump of extremely salty meat with barely a sprinkle of cheese on top. It was awful. The al pastor was also quite salty, but was a bit more tolerable thanks to the pineapple and their delicious salsa. It also irked me that I didn't get any limes. Who serves traditional taqueria-style tacos without limes? The tortillas on all three were fresh and the tacos were a pretty good size and made for a filling meal. 2/5 overall.
