My never ending hunt for California street style mexican cuisine bought me to this lovely restaurant. I was the only brotha in the joint and probably the only non Spanish speaker the evening I was in this spot, so I felt pretty comfortable that this place was not phony, not like AT&T but E.T., If you feel me! I got an Al Pastor taco and a Steak and Cheese Torta, the taco was almost perfect. The Pastor was hot and flavorful, the only down side was the tortillas, they were dry as bones. I had high hopes for the Torta, like I was really excited to eat it, but after a few bites the thrill was gone, sorry folks I just can't give it a pass right now, it was bland and the different ingredients just melded together, nothing stood out, true story. Pretty good tacos. I got their chips and gauc. Their guac is fair, tasted like it was just avocado. I also ordered their tres leches cake which they never put in my bag but I didn't see until I was back in my office. Got a to go order from here last night. We ordered six tacos, two chicken, two beef fajita and two shredded beef. We also ordered a beef and chicken quesadilla and the tres leches. The quesadillas looked like tacos. It was folded like a taco and small. I only realized it was a quesadilla after we had it and noticed that it had cheese. The tacos were bland and didn't have any flavor. I could not tell the difference between the beef fajita and the shredded beef. It looked the same. The tres leches wasn't bad. Overall the price is outrageous to me and the food does not make up for it. I'm from Texas, so I have high expectations when it comes to tacos and such. I probably won't go back and would opt for a Mexican restaurant in the area or make my own tacos. read more

Hands down one of my favorite places to eat a tasty cost effective meal. Been coming here every other week for about 8 years. I love how fresh the food is and the fixings bar. When I order tacos it comes on 2 tortillas so I order 2 different meat tacos and split them each into 2. Gives me 4 tacos to enhance with pickled red onions, lime, salsas, and cilantro. The torta is huge and delicious. Again using the fixing bar to test our new flavor combos is great. My only complaint would be I wish they had all the hot sauces in pourers vs. just 1. People tend to drop the pickled red onions and other items in the sauce bins. read more

I went to my favorite local joint today (Taco Bar II http://www.yelp.com/biz/taco-bar-gaithersburg-2) over by the Rio, only to find an extremely long line. I weighed my options and decided, "Hey, the other Taco Bar is only 10 min away, and I've been meaning to try it". So off I went. Unfortunately, this Taco Bar is not as good as the other. I suspect it is mainly due to it not being as busy. It is good, don't get me wrong, but not as amazing as it's counterpart. They are owned by the same people, and have the same basic menu, although a word of warning, 75% of the menu is in Spanish alone, no translation. So you may want to know a little Spanish, or know what you want heading in. The beans were good, but more bland then the other Taco Bar. The rice was a little dry. The salsas on the bar were not as fresh. The meat (pastor) was good, a little different with more onions. All in all, worth stopping by if you are in the neighborhood for some good, cheap Mexican, but if you have an extra 10 minutes, head to their other location in the W Express by the Rio. read more

Real Mexican food is hard to find in this area (I'm originally from LA and I grew up in a Mexican home where that's the only type of food I ate so I might be a little picky when it comes to this). I would say Taco Bar does a really good job at making tacos. I've had the carne asada and lengua and both are delicious. Their salsa bar is also a plus and I usually spoon a bunch of salsa all over my food. I just wish they had handmade tortillas. I'm confused if this Taco Bar is associated with the Taco Bar down the street but this place needs to step up their game. A co worker and I stopped in for a quick bite over lunch and neither of us were impressed. The only positive thing about the visit was that this Taco Bar has lunch specials from 12-3. I ordered the breakfast burritos and it didn't really have a taste. I added onions and salsa from the condiment bar and still had issues. My meal also didn't come with chips or a side, just the burrito. My co worker ordered the chicken salad and it was a mess. The salad consisted of shredded lettuce an entire tomato cut into four, a couple rings of onions, and a thin fried chicken breast. The meal also took quite a while to come out which was strange since there had to be six or seven employees working. This place is seriously ON POINT. They're bisteck tacos are SO GOOD & HUGE as well as their tortas. my daughter digs their cheese quesadillas, but then again whats not to love about their menu? Very small but delightful food and people. The cashier was very patient and helpful as I tried to decide what to order, answering my many questions with a smile and a little chuckle.. I got the tacos, one of each, and they were so packed with meat that you needed the double wrap that comes with them. It was a little short on the offered (buffet bar style)toppings, the sour cream was very thin, and I wished the sauces would've been labeled for newbies like me, but I enjoyed my experience. If you want AUTHENTIC mexican cuisine, this is the place to go. Tacos are legit, especially the al pastor ones which are the pork tacos. Guac is freshly made every day and is better than chipotles in my opinion. They also have sopes and tostadas which are very good. The chicken tostadas are my preference. Even after repeating myself, it just didn't work. I came into the store, I would describe it as family friendly, not much of space though. I have eaten here plenty of times, but today was my first time actually going inside to order. The customer service was terrible. Prior to me getting to the register, the cashier seem like she was in a good mood with the customers ahead of me, who were hispanic. When I came up to order, her patients instantly seemed thin. She walked away from me in the middle of me asking a question and rolled her eyes a couple of times. There are two Taco Bars in Montgomery County, MD. Both are in Gaithersburg. This is located near Old Towne. Both are owned by brothers of the same franchise. This place tacos are far superior than RIO. Their steak is tender and well cooked while their pulled chicken is well seasoned. The Rio location steak are over cooked and is hard because they would cut into square pieces and not tender also, their pulled chicken would be too dry and drenched in the sauce. THIS IS HANDS DOWN THE KING OF TACOS. IT STILL TIES WITH TORTACOS ( behind lake forest mall ) because each style is different and prices are same. However, if you've been to the Rio location inside the Washingtonian gas station than try this one and compare. The only difference is this place is a bit pricier than the Rio location. The Tortas at this place is huge. You pay $10 for the Torta special and if you get a carry out it takes up your entire box literally. GIGANTIC! Very good! Just sloppy that's all. The Rios do give you a better deal because they have half Torta special $8 and Torta special $10 VERDICT: You will not ever dislike this place. Go to this place and share with friends often! Everyone has always loved it. Brought chips and gauc to a few social events, which are ALWAYS a huge hit - never any leftovers :-/ Very affordable and you get a great size portion! Love that they have a veg menu for non-meat eaters. I also like the "bar" style of adding your own fixins on top. I usually get the tacos or sopes, but would definitely try other things - just always crave those the most! 2 tacos usually fill me, but I always try to force down a 3rd because they are soooo good. Definitely have always had friendly service and a pleasant experience. You get your food quickly whether eating in or carrying out. Even catering was a quick and easy experience. My annoyance with a road closure turned to a happy surprise when the detour took me past this little place. A few days later I was in to have a taste. It's pretty small, pretty unexciting on the inside but definitely has character. There is a wall covered with menu pictures plus a little menu above the cashier. We tried a steak, pork and chicken taco and added some toppings from the small toppings bar. Overall, it was fine. Greasy meat with 2 corn tortillas similar to other 'authentic' taco joints. Our meals which included 2 tacos each with beans/rice/drink was about $15. I'd come back more because it's close by but it helps that the food was ok too. I'll definitely have to venture into the other menu items which includes sopes, tortas & quesadillas amongst other things. read more

Found this place right on Russell Ave as a fluke. Was literally leaving Lashof Violin and headed back to my office and nearly caused a three car pileup as I busted one of my classic last minute u turns. Ordered quesadilla with rice and beans, and taquitos with rice and beans. Taquitos were fantastic. Fresh, homemade with REAL CHICKEN!!! It was really really good. Service is fast. I certainly can't pig out like this every day, but this will be my go to place for a quick lunch. Although my lunch this past Friday was not till 230pm, there was still a decent line for patrons ordering food. I can imagine around 11am-2pm, they are quite busy. There are roughly 8 small tables for patrons to dine, but probably a large group would be overwhelming. Great menu selection. Will try sopas next time. read more

This is a small little establishment that was started 2002. It serves authentic Mexican food at very reasonable prices. The Russel Ave. location has some seating and the Fields Rd. location is located right next to a gas station so there are only about 2 -3 tables there and they are small. But the food is good. So if you want the non Taco Bell treatment go to the Taco Bar and get your fill of tacos, tortas,sopes,tostadas,quesadillas and burritos. You won't be disappointed. read more
