El Jefe Margaritas, Chips & Salsa
    J C.

This is one of our favorite restaurants in Long Beach. It never disappoints! We always get the El Jefe margaritas, and let me tell you, one is enough! They are so good. Some of our favorite menu items are: the Pipeline Burrito w/asada, the Spicy Ramon Burrito (amazing), the Tostado w/chicken and the Reina Salad is really good, too. We have moved away from Long Beach, but when we visit, we never miss the chance to go to Taco Beach. The service is also the best!

This place has good salsa and chip. I was in the area and craving some Mexican food. I got their enchiladas plate. It was good. The restaurant was spacious and has a surfer boy vibe. The staff were friendly and chill. Overall, it gave a good beachy feel. The burritos were also tasty. They had own parking lot. Just a chill spot for a quick bite.

For airport food? Pretty good. Large enough breakfast burrito to be split, fresh ingredients, generous portion, reasonable price. Would recommend for a quick bite before your flight!

Wonderful spot to come and get your chips and salsa fix along with a the great dishes you all know and love... I like that we were able to come with 10 unannounced and they were happy to accommodate, and when more of our friends came, the help actually seemed happy that more came... the service was a 10, the food was an 8, and another 10 for the staff!

Taco Tuesday - Grilled Shrimp taco, Baja Fish taco, Al Pastor taco.

Not a bad spot. Open floor plan, clean, and very fast service. Parking is hard in the small lot that they have, so we parked on the street. On Taco Tuesday they have some great food and drink specials. The place was full of other patrons, so they must be doing something right. Tacos were ok. Not particularly flavorful or large in size. I think they are good fodder to have while drinking, but nothing I would go out of my way to order again. They were not particularly discounted either, but they did offer fish and shrimp options, so it all balanced out. A great middle of the road solution if craving Mexican food without a long line in a casual environment.

    Grilled Mahi Tacos

Came by myself for a quick lunch in between my classes and I got taco combo plate. I got the grilled mahi and Michoacán tacos. I thought that the mahi was really good. On the hand, the pork on the Michoacán was very tender but I would say it is a bit lacking in flavor. The service was really fast, and it is nice and bright inside--perfect for lunch. They also have a full bar and a lot of TVs for the people who like to watch games. The menu is also well-priced. I'd say I found a cool lunch spot right by my school.

    Menu price

100% bait and switch prices wrong on menu when called out got a response of do you want the food or no they are getting everybody with fraudulent prices

    Tacos are kind of average

I really want to like taco beach. It's just up the street from my workplace, and they have a good happy hour special. But, their tacos are just kind of bland and average tasting. I got one fish taco that tasted like a fish stick in a tortilla with some shredded lettuce, and an al pastor taco that was very bland. The tacos at Hole Mole are better, but Taco Beach has a better sit down atmosphere to hang out with friends. I'll have to try other items before I give up.

Another walkable, close to my house joint that we frequent from time to time. They have ICY COLD beer *yum* and the food is pretty good. I enjoy sitting at a table by the open windows on a summer day with the breeze coming in. Sippin' on that icy cold goodness. Delish! They tunes are always bumping and they play the best station. 90's on 9 via Sirius XM. (I asked!) You'll love it too if you grew up in the 90's like it did. ;-) The only complaint I have if the owners are reading; it's past time to fix the outside sign. I drive by it multiple times a week and notice it. It would look so much better if you freshened it up!

First of all one of their workers with the mastche and tattoos is so cute which is always a plus for the ambiance. It didn't take long to get our food. About 5 minutes and they brought it out to where we sat since we dined in. First of all! You need to get an aguas fresca. We got the medium for the orange mango and the Jamaica. They are so natural. I'm a huge fan of artificial flavor so this was a huge shock, but it pairs so well with their food. My only regret isn't getting the large. For the food we got the burrito 2.0 asada and the chivichanga chicken. The burrito was great but very heavy on the beans. Make sure you get extra green salsa. It's their best and a perfect balance of salty with a hint of sweet. The red salsa gets spicy. If you can't handle hot Cheetos don't eat it. Now the chivichanga thing was perfect. It's so tiny but the fact it's about $5 was perfect. I have never had something so well priced and portioned before. The way I can describe it if you ever wanted to taste high class Taco Bell that will make you want four more then you need to try it. And I mean this in the best way possible. It's so cheesy and savory and yummy!!! Truly just from these two dishes we will be coming back to try the rest of the menu. Our next dishes is to try the tacos!

We ordered caramelos with the poblanos inside, as well as their horchata. Tortillas are some of the best I've had. Super soft and flavorful from the grill. The fillings and salsa were good too, but it was really wet, and the bean ratio especially compared to the meat, was a little off. Always am going to want more meat. Horchata was unique since it was coconut based. Overall solid spot with patient staff. Tacos La Rueda is still better, but will be back when in Long Beach.

It's normally taco Tuesday or dinner. It wasn't busy when we arrived. Mainly everyone was seated outside which we wanted a table as well. There was one that we were interested in and asked if we could have it which the waitress working was ok with. But it needed clearing up. It took a while for someone to come out and clear and clean the table up. It was fine waiting but it was like did someone forget about us. Anyways. We got seated and then the waiting continued. It could be that they were short staff but it seemed like there was only one person working. It took a while for someone to finally come back and acknowledge us and take our order. After that the chips and salsa were brought out. Once we ordered the drinks it was easier to place everything together. Menu for happy hour is pretty limited. A few drinks and beer on drafts and for food, maybe 6 items on the menu. Went with an order of the street corn which was quite tasty. An order of the mole chicken nachos and the queso dip with barria. Out of the three, the queso dips and the street corn were great. Nachos were good but nothing really major. The flavors of everything were quite tasty. Dishes were 12.00 an item. For happy hour, it was decent and what we had was good. The service was pretty slow at the beginning. Only the front patio and inside seating was available as the back patio wasn't open. We did start to see other staff walking in so maybe there was only one staff during the time.

The soup here lacks the tastebud awakening zip that Don Chato's has. The ono fish taco experience was my fault... I hate fried fish taco, so I had lofty expectations, but due to the fact that I do not prefer corn tortillas, guacamole or raw onions, led to much disappointment since It has all three. Totally my fault. The butternut enchilada was lacking in the expected savoriness... this is being polite. The potato taquito was okay... but I am not a taquito person, so if you are I would seriously encourage you to try it. The star of the table was the Mexican corn. It may not compete with Cornman in Lincoln Heights, but it was decent. I scraped off the onions and toppings on the ono tacos, put the fish on the flour tortillas that another person didn't want, and topped the fish with refried beans, street corn and a but if the chicken tortilla soup broth to make due. When you are driving more than 30 minutes for this experience, I think you would agree that it was less that a proper way to celebrate a birthday. Oh and if there isn't any street parking. It'll cost you about 9 bucks in the lot. I didn't use the restroom, so I cant review its cleanliness. Our waitress was flawless taking orders and delivering food The restaurant itself has a great layout and an outdoor courtyard complete with propane heaters and umbrellas - I loved that... but my favorite part was out front, no not the seating area in the former parking spaces, nope... it was the collapsed woman on the sidewalk, walking her dog with snot running out of her nose because she was huffing some aerosol can of whatever. This truly set the mood upon arrival. Two stars for being close to a lot of other food choices to visit afterward.

Palapa next door offers the same food menu but has more drink options. Many opted for outdoor seating on the terrace due to the gorgeous views, but not wanting to wait we agreed to indoor seating. Our waitress was absolutely phenomenal, super friendly and anticipating all of our needs (water refills, leftover containers, etc.). Service overall by all staff was friendly. We were actually presently surprised with the taste of the food, thinking it might be more Americanized but they actually had very authentic and tasty totopos (tortilla chips). The tomato salsa that came with the chips was also very refreshing. We asked for hot sauce too and the house habanero salsa really packed a punch! We ordered carne asada nachos, pork belly chilaquiles (from the brunch menu), a breakfast burrito, poke, and steamed clams. The steamed clams came in a rich tomato broth and the breakfast burrito was massive. The poke was just okay and the chilaquiles a bit too soggy for me, and the carne asada nachos a bit dry. Nonetheless, presentation and portion sizes were respectable. The last comment is that food here is quite pricey but that reflects the likely high rent of a restaurant in 2nd and PCH. We ordered the "made to order table side guac" for 15.50 for an appetizer. About 10 minutes later, a guac is delivered to the table that was either run through a blender or was taken from a tub with a spoonful of pico mixed in. So much for the advertised table side experience or fresh avocado. The guac we buy at Trader Joe's and from Costco are way better. Third Interaction when ordering an entree.
