This place shares a parking lot with other restaurants so it could get crowded as the parking lot is small, but there's street parking so don't worry. When you go to the restaurant there's two entrances. It doesn't matter which one you go into, but the door on the left is the dining area which is pretty big and the door on the right is where you order your food. Once you order your food you go to the salsa bar. There's plenty of salsa from spicy to mild. Jalapeños, lime and hard tortillas. And the space is clean. After I got my salsa my order was ready. Took like 5 minutes I ordered the 2 hard tacos combo which came with a generous portion of rice and beans. I got one taco with shredded beef and the other taco with chicken. The chicken was kind of dry so I wasn't a fan of it. The shredded beef is really good and flavorful and not dry. And the tacos were big. I'm coming here the next time I want a big taco filled with beef. read more

Supported this place when it was nothing special. And this is how they treat people now. The older bald Hispanic owner yeah, that guy -- has apparently decided to die on the hill of being a complete asshole to paying customers. Here's what happened. He walks through the restaurant like usual, greeting tables, "Hi, how are you, how's the food?" He hits the white family sitting across from us with the full friendly act. Then he gets to our table. Me (Hispanic) and my Caucasian wife. I say, perfectly polite: "Hi sir, how are you? I haven't seen you in a while." His response? Loud. Performative. Aggressive. "Seeing me? I've never seen you in my life." Said it out loud on purpose so everyone around could hear. Instant hostility. Zero reason. Just pure attitude. Stack this: * He had JUST been at the table a few spots over minutes earlier. * At that table he was all smiles, sweet, nice, shaking hands with me and my friends. * Warm. Friendly. Completely different person. * Then he walks over to us and flips the switch like a light. That's not a bad day. That's bipolar restaurant owner energy. One minute charming the room, next minute publicly denying he knows a longtime customer and trying to embarrass him in front of other tables. For what? Because I said "I haven't seen you in a while"? That's the crime? He didn't need to lower himself like that. He chose to. He chose to play it up for the audience. He chose aggression over basic professionalism. And the fact that the switch flipped so hard after he'd just been nice to us minutes earlier makes it even more ridiculous. I've been here since 2013. Through the old Atlantic location. Through the remodel. Through the years of giving this place my money. And this is the treatment? Publicly acting like you've never seen a loyal customer's face while you were just shaking his hand a few tables ago? Unprofessional. Erratic. Completely unnecessary. Both my fish and shrimp tacos were served lukewarm warm/cold. It was also soaked in their sauce which made the tacos messy, and unappetizing to me eat. The shredded beef however was excellent. The ground beef was poorly seasoned and had a bitter aftertaste that made them hard to enjoy. The bean and cheese burrito was also disappointing. It arrived cold, and the cheese was only half melted. It honestly felt like there was very little care put into the food quality. Only redeeming part of the meal was the tortilla, which was surprisingly good. Stopped by for some pick up for dinner. I got the chicken fajitas. My wife got the grilled Vege burrito. Portion size was great. Service good. Beans were good. Rice was good. Chicken was over cooked. Dry and crunchy. Corn tortillas were not able to be used because they were ripped. Very disappointing. I appreciate the fresh peppers but can we get some smaller slices. Grilled Vege burrito was not grilled. Not sure why. Salsa bar was outstanding. I want to continue to come here but it just seems that the effort in quality is being lost. It's been a hot minute since I've been to Baja Sonora, and it did not disappoint. We came in around 6 on a Friday. It was busy but we were able to order quickly and there were still tables available. I was craving a fish taco and ordered the one taco combo. The toppings on the taco were perfect and the piece of fish was generous. I ended up separating it into two tacos! Hubby got the torta and teenager got the California burrito. Both had plenty of meat. We love the chip and salsa bar, which also has lime slices for the Diet Coke. Baja Senora is just the kind of place I want when I'm in the mood for rice and beans and maybe an entree. Luckily for me, the rice and beans at Baja Senora slap. We shared a lil crunchy taco to start. For $4.75, you get something called a deep fried hard taco filled with your choice of protein (chicken for us) and topped with shredded lettuce and a mound of shredded cheese. It was good (?) though I don't think I'll be venturing down that court again. For my entree, I ordered the two enchilada combo ($14.95). Here, you can mix and match your enchiladas so I ordered one chicken and one cheese. They're smothered in enchilada sauce and topped with melted cheese. Of the two, I preferred the cheese. The chicken enchilada was nothing more than shredded chicken, which is fine, but a little dry for my preference. They also offer unlimited chips and salsa. The chips are giant tortilla disks which I find fun. Salsa selection is excellent. Overall, Baja Senora is giving what it needs to give. read more

I have eaten at Baja Sonora for many years when they were located in Bixby Knolls I was sad to see them close, the food was consistently good and in walking distance from my condo. The restaurant is clean and fairly packed on Veterans Day. I chose my lunch and place my order. My order Bean and cheese burrito. $7.99 With extra cheese wet with spicy green sauce. They covered my burrito in red sauce I didn't bother to say anything because I was annoyed that I didn't double check my receipt but I am positive that I asked for spicy green sauce. To be fair my burrito was delicious the beans were yummy and the red sauce was very good next time I'll check my receipt. 8/10 Potato tacos. $9.50 Two hard tacos with soft potato filling lettuce cheese and mild salsa I loved them. 10/10 A side of Spicy Pork Chili Verde $9.95 Not sure it was worth the price especially not having any sides with it but overall it was good the pork was tender and the sauce was very spicy and perfectly seasoned. 8/10 I would order this again but I will keep it original chili verde and not spicy because after a few bites I was over the heat. Free Salsa bar Was just like I remembered I love the variety and the fried tostada to break up and eat with the salsa. Mild red salsa 8/10 Tangy and mild I love this with potato tacos. Baja Sanora is one of my go to places for quality Mexican food. They have a large menu and lots of veggie items. The have a chips and salsa bar and a drunk station in the dining room. I'm a Carne Asada fajitas man. That's what I get at any Mexican restaurant if they make them. There is a lot of seating indoor and a few tables for outdoor dining. This is my first time coming here. I was craving some enchiladas and my family was craving some tacos. The owner is very friendly and greets all the customers. Service was quick. The food came out hot. They have a self serve chip and salsa station which was very nice and well stocked. The portion of the food was also decent, and the price was good. The taste however, was just very mid. Nothing stood out, but it did its job of satisfying my craving. We came here regularly when we lived in Long Beach and often come back when we're in the area. There's no better bargain around for food quantity for the price. Combo meals are around $14-15 and include generous meat, large portions of rice and beans, and a refillable drink. Plus free chip and salsa bar. I had shrimp soft tacos this time, and there were about ten shrimp in each. I had the same thing at a much pricier restaurant a few weeks ago that had only three small shrimp per taco and a lot of veggie filler. You may run into one of the owners bustling around, and the checker had been there for years when we moved away seven years ago and is still there. She's always extremely efficient and knowledgeable. The only negative IMO is that parking can be a challenge. Don't overlook that additional parking is available at each end of the strip mall via a route around and behind the buildings. Just be careful - it's narrow with sharp turns and might be too much for larger vehicles. This is not authentic Mexican food, so if that's what you're looking for, you may not be pleased. But if you like the Americanized version, as I do, go for it! read more

Rice needs Jesus to be saved, it's very unflavored and I'm assuming used as a plate filler. Beans are palatable if you add salt. The 2 crunchy tacos I got were not good. The ground beef one was "ok" but the potato one was just plain bad. My husband ordered a Chile verde pork spicy. That was honestly good, tender and good flavor. He also ordered a chicken crunchy taco. Chicken tasted refrigerated and not fresh. Think a rotisserie chicken when it gets freezer burn.. you know the taste. This is a great choice if you're looking for quick service and good quality food. I enjoyed my surf & turf burrito. The portion size was pretty big, as it was too big for me to finish all in one sitting. However, I took the rest togo and enjoyed it later! I just left and I'm really upset because I was excited to come here it's one of my moms favorite places. I ordered a #7 combo they brought our food I went to move my plate and burned my finger extremely bad. The girl that brought our food didn't even tell me the plate was hot. Not a normal heat. Scorching hot. Im not sure where the plate was but there was no need for that plate to be that hot. Grabbing it with napkins to move it and still feeling the heat through it. My finger is extremely red and looks like it may bubble. I'm mad because #1 that was not safe #2 the girl didn't warn me and #3 I couldn't even enjoy my food after getting hurt. What I do like is they have to go containers and bags ready to go, too! Love that they had a chips and salsa bar with 5 different salsas, limes and peppers. I like trying lots of flavors. My fave was the medium red salsa. Asada Taco - this was huge! I had to eat some of the meat before trying to pick it up because it was so big. Flavor was a okay. Prices were very reasonable. I was able to get a taco, a drink and comp chips and salsa for about $10 for lunch. What a steal! Service was quick and friendly. The other day I had my first experience here at Baja Sonora. I've always wanted to try it since it's so close to home. When we arrived we noticed the place was cozy, clean and decorated. The menu has plenty of options to choose from including vegetarian options! I usually stick to traditional plates when I do mexican but I went the seafood route and ordered a salmon bowl which was just incredible. They also have a salad bar with delicious freshly made tostadas and salsa! We just had to get seconds for that salsa. The whole time we were there, people kept coming and coming to pick up orders and dine in. Very busy. This says alot about how good the food is. The staff was great and courteous but what sealed the deal for me was the warm and friendly welcome by the owner mike. While at our table, Mike came and asked how we were doing with a smile on his face. He then walked around and did the same for other guests. He was very cheerful and had great chemistry with his staff. Places like this are few and far between. Best Salsa bar we have been to at a Mexican Restaurant in Long Beach, with very fresh and crunchy tostadas (that you can be break into chips) and a selection of different salsas and pickled vegetables. All the meats we tried were very flavorful, good quality with little gristle, and came in large portions. And the prices were good for the portions, even during non-happy hours. Sorry to say, that we've been to this little strip mall in Long Beach near the airport many times and never paid much attention to this restaurant...a mistake. Baja Sonora came to my attention reading an article in the LA Times: it mentioned a restaurant in Long Beach (which doesn't happen much in LA-centric news outlets) that's worth stopping in. It's been open for over 25 years in the same location, and when we stopped in for dine-in a little after opening (11 am), it was already fairly busy (read that it's super busy during their very popular Happy Hours and Taco Tuesdays). Parking is in the shared lot, and since there are other popular businesses in the mall, it fills up quickly. It seems to occupy two units in the mall building, with entrances for both. The door to the right is the one to go into, where you get in line, and then order and pay (they accept credit cards using the Toast platform). You get a numbered placard, along with your drink and find a place to sit in the other unit. There is a self-serve 8 unit soda fountain with Coke products, iced tea machine AND 5 unit soda machine serving Orange Bang and other sodas (all from Orange Bang Inc, a company out of Sylmar, CA). In the middle of the dining area, there is a large salsa bar with stacks of tostadas. It also has the larger sized ramekins to pack your salsa...really liked that you didn't have to waste so much plastic using the little ones. Lg Soft Drink ($4.25) - broke my usual rule and got a soda instead of ice water for dine-in. First tried a little of the Orange Bang, tasted like Orange Cream soda. They had Fanta Orange so drunk that the rest of the way. Hard Taco (3 for $4.50 each) - these are big taco shells...think the extra large taco shells from El Paso. Each had been stuffed with choice of meat, deep fried, and then overflowed with lettuce and shredded cheese, with a squirt of taco sauce. They were very good...no way you can eat them without the shredded lettuce and cheese falling all over (good to eat as a taco salad). The easily accessible salsa bar lets you flavor it exactly the way you want. It's a very good rendition of a hard shell taco, which I don't really see much of. Quesadilla ($11.50) - stuffed with cheese, diced carne asada, and a bit of grilled onion, this quesadilla used a large flour tortilla that had been well grilled on a flat top and was served with some fresh pico and really good guacamole. All of this filled the two of us up. We chose different meats: shredded beef, carnitas, and carne asada. Neither of the first two were seasoned much, allowing for you to customize the taste. And the carne asada was very well marinated (maybe a little too much so for some). All of it was protein, with little fat or gristle. This is exactly the way I want to eat Mexican food at a restaurant: serve yourself with AYCE drinks and salsa, very good shredded pork and beef, self bussing, good prices. They do have a Yelp check-in special, but I continued my streak of not realizing it until too late. The owner was making rounds to make sure his customers were satisfied. Baja Sonora has really optimized the operations really well, and I understand why it is so popular, especially for those hard shell tacos during happy hour. read more
