My husband and I stopped by here on a whim (we couldn't figure out where to eat!) we drive by here practically every day. We were able to park in their lot (which is small-- but it's summer and school is out so there aren't as many people around). We were greeted as soon as we arrived by a nice waitress who also turned out to be our waitress. She was very attentive and friendly the entire time. I ordered an horchata which was the best I've had outside of Mexico-- very cinnamon-y! I ordered a bean and cheese burrito which was pretty good. My husband liked the California burrito he ordered. The atmosphere was modern and "bar-like" but the music was really loud and there weren't even that many people in there, so it definitely wasn't the noise of the people. I enjoy this place. Never had a bad meal here. Nothing crazy special, but it's a bit better than your average dive Mexican food joint. They have a great happy hour and good drinks. I live in the neighborhood. I was wanted a margarita but I didn't want to go to a bigger restaurant that might be more crowded. So I was at the stop light and decided to stop in an try this place again. Well, sadly, this is Mexican food. The margarita was really bad. I definitely have had better. Glad I didn't have the larger version. The salsa was tasteless, just tomatoes and water pretty much. I asked for the spicer one and it was spicy but still tasteless. I had their burrito pipeline( I think it is called). It was again not tasty. It was just food. There is a place up the street on Atherton that is much MUCH better than this place. The happy hour at this location was excellent! I went with some coworkers to celebrate the Thanksgiving break to give it a try. The drink specials were a solid deal for schooners of beer. The truly memorable thing, after the beer lol, was how good their carne asada fries tasted. This things were delicious perfect amount of topping and the fries were cooked to perfection. The chips and salsa were also good quality and worthy of a refill. Not sure how the rest of the food is yet, but I will be back. I've been here twice in the last two weeks and have enjoyed it, but there are still some things I would improve about it. First, it seems like they have no air conditioning, which on a hot day, made it gross to be in there (maybe it was just not turned on when I went in?). Second, service is a mixed bag. The first time I went, the waitress was absolutely attentive and helpful; the second time, the waitress was pretty bad. Maybe she was drunk; she seemed a little too loosey goosey and brought things out in the wrong order. Sad - wanted to like this place. Every person in our party complained about feeling like they had MSG toxicity. Because of this, none of us will return. Maybe they use commercial spice mixes or bullion that has MSG or another chemical preservatives. Not sure but given that all of the people in our party feeling this way, seems it's in their food somewhere. So if you're sensitive to MSG OR similar chemical preservatives, you may want to pass on this place. Atmosphere was nice, server was great. In response to the restaurants response, NONE of us had alcohol. You may want to read all the labels of the ingredients you use including bulk spices. read more

Just had a DELICIOUS Monday night dinner with the fam off the happy hour menu. Best margaritas in town ($4)... happy hour on food, too, all night... happy hour foods included scrumptious taquitos and delicious shrimp tacos and fish tacos. Aaaand the chips and salsa are the bomb. Dinner for 3 plus a drink for mom and dad for about $30. Plus awesome 90s throw back music in the background and a friendly server, Lexie, who consistently checked in on us with a smile. Nice Monday for us! Taco Beach is awful. Went in Friday night, place was packed. Sat in a booth in the back and it was sweltering hot..no air circulating and all the windows/doors closed. Food was NOT good. Chile Relleno was greasy and burnt. Beans had NO flavor. Margarita's were teeny time like 8 OZ glasses, maybe 10OZ and about 9.00 each. We had a party of 6 and split the bill 3 ways on cards. We each left an 8.00 tip so 18.00. After we got home I was looking at the bill and noticed the waitress had added 18% gratuity so another 21.00. Of course she didn't bother pointing out this auto-gratuity..so she made 39.00 of our 148.00 bill..NOT PLEASED and will be calling the restaurant about this. read more

The food my wife and I had here was fantastic. She had the shrimp enchiladas and I had the drunken carnitas plate. Both were really flavorful and high quality. We also got the tamarindo and horchata, which were both very good. The price you pay for the quality and quantity of food you get is excellent. The reason they are getting four stars instead of five is because I told the waitress I wanted guacamole on the side and she brought out a full appetizer after she told us guac came with the meal. We told her that would be plenty and we didn't need any extra. On the plus side, you get a lot of guacamole for 4.75! read more

I was so excited to see a new restaurant! How disappointing. I really wanted to love this new restaurant in my neighborhood. Here's what went wrong: 1. Walked in at 9:00. Although they have a bar, they can't serve alcohol past 9:00. 2. Because we couldn't have a beer, we asked for iced tea. They were out of iced tea. 3. The server who sat us said it was Taco Tuesday. All tacos are $2.00, except grilled fish. When we got our bill, the chicken and asada tacos were $2.00, but the others (neither one of which were grilled fish) were regular price. 4. No salt, pepper, or Tapatio on the table. There wasn't anything on the table! Maybe a specials menu with the actual taco price would be a good idea. 5. BF asked for no lettuce on his tacos. He got lettuce. He said something right when the server brought them, so the she took them back. We got to listen to the manager (owner?) bitch out the cooks. Very Chef Ramsey. 6. I ordered two tacos, one pork and one baja (fried fish). The pork itself was actually pretty good, but the tortillas were stuck together. When a taco comes with two tortillas, I like the option to abandon one. 7, The fish was WAY overdone. Sometimes, fried food can look dark because the oil is old. This was just burnt. 8. I also ordered soup, which came after the tacos. I asked for no tortilla strips. I got tortilla strips. Plus, the soup was lukewarm. 9. The problem with the above issues: Our server never came back to our table until she dropped our check. At that point, she did not ask about my entirely uneaten taco and soup. She did not ask us how we liked our dinner, she did not ask if we needed anything else. She had her own agenda, and it did not include customer service. 10. When she came back to collect payment, I asked her to take the soup off the bill. She offered to get me another one, but really? It was way too late for that. 11. The manager (owner?) looked very official with a pencil behind his ear, but he was focused on the staff, not the customers. I sound grumpy, but I owned a restaurant. I know you can serve someone twenty wonderful meals and they will keep coming back. However, if you disappoint them just once, you may never see them again. Also, the mistakes with the food are forgivable. They just opened and they need to get used to the menu, the kitchen, etc. The inattentiveness, however, is inexcusable. You can make up for a lot of sins by being personable. Our server was inadequate and untrained, but that isn't necessarily her fault. I blame the guy with the pencil. read more

It's sad because their food actually isn't that bad. Their service just sucks. I've given this place multiple chances to do better and they haven't. Our waitress,Brenda A, was taking our drink orders and when the guys were deciding she just walked away without saying anything. It was ridiculous and took forever to come back. It's like we were waiting on her. It was nice she gave another shot to the guys because their margaritas were weak, but nothing will excuse constantly bad service from this place. I'm a light weight so I usually am able to "feel" a double margarita. Not this one. The hubby ordered the Jefe margarita. Not much better. For lunch I ordered the Tres Amigos. Taco, tamale and chile relleno. It came with rice and beans. I asked for pinto beans, got refried. :( rice was meh. Taco was the best thing on the plate. Mine was crane asada and was stuffed full of lettuce, cheese and pico. Not bad, but not worth it. Tamale was a thick masa and little meat in the middle. The relleno was gross. Could barely find it under the ton of red sauce smothering it all. Not a good sign when there should be 5 distinct items on your plate and you can't really tell which is which bc they're all smothered. (Should have taken a picture.). Husband got the Pipeline burrito. He said it was just ok. Ate half of it and felt like a brick in his stomach after. Service was friendly and prompt at first. Then it took us forever to get the bill. Our waitress was incompetent at best. Ordered a double Hefe margarita without salt, came with salt. They brought one without pretty sure they just poured from the salted cup to another, it was salty tasting still and very watery. How do you mess up a margarita?! My son ordered a bean/cheese burrito with fries and ranch and she brought a quesadilla with fries and no ranch. The enchilada with beef was greasy ground beef that resembled animal food, dark dry crumbs yet somehow saturated in pools of bright orange grease. The beans were flavorless (lard and salt please omg). Also the orange soda doesn't taste like fanta I swear they add some weird syrup it was on the outside of the lid on cup they brought my son. It was thick and sticky on the outside and tasted gross like tang!!!! Our server didn't communicate or apologize for bringing any wrong items and actually looked a bit gape mouthed and confused when it was pointed out. The food is great, the place is always clean, they have happy hour deals and always have good music and TVs going. 2 stars because our service wasn't the best and their food was okay. They have an inside and an outside seating, but my 3 friends & I wanted to sit outside. This kind gentlemen (busser) even assisted us out and gave us menus. We were sitting there for no joke about 25 minutes having conversations and catching up. We were all a bit hangry and really thirsty and no one came to take our order. There needs to be servers consistently checking outside just in case people are out there. So I decided to go inside and find a server. There was no one in sight, no one standing around, no one at the bar, nothing. So I looked in the kitchen area and I see one lady getting some food and cooks in the back. Next to me, I see 3-4 girls get up quickly from the booth eating chips and salsa to help me. One kind girl approached me and asked if I needed something. I told her if someone can come take our order because we've been waiting for a while. She looked so embarrassed like she had no idea we were out there. She instantly came out, took our order and was very sweet about it. Anyways she repeated the order and it was correct, but when we got one of our dishes.. it was the wrong order. We asked for al pastor tacos and we got... i don't even know what it was called, but we were like, "are these al pastor tacos?" And the lady that brought it out was like, "no.. it's ... (i forgot the name)" but we're not that picky and we were too hungry so we just ate it anyways. Our server must have put the order in wrong or something. Out server then kept checking in on us to make sure it was okay out there which I thank her for. Overall, our dining experience wasn't the best and the food was decent. Came here for taco Tuesday with a small group(5). Horrible service. We had to ask for everything. We tried to be patient but honestly left here and probably will never go back. No menu for "taco Tuesday" no liquor served after 9(we arrived @8) and even after we waited an hour still got turned down for beer. I'll definitely be returning to Hole Mole instead. I was extremely disappointed: 1. We got seated and given a menu. We were never told we had to be seated on the other side for the Taco Tuesday menu? Okay so we'll sit on that side? If we stayed on the side we were seated we would be charged $4 for the same $2 taco's? 2. After waiting 1 hour we finally chased a waitress down and got to order, however it was now 8:59 and so we could not order beer or drinks from the bar? 3. Food was horrible. 4. Even after we mentioned we waited 2 hours(and believe me had it not been for our good friend not wanting to leave) I would have walked out and went to Hole Mole and they probably never noticed. The waiter/owner was not in the best of moods( in his defense I want to hope he was stressed due to the opening but it should not reflect your facial expressions and I should not be able to tell that you have a sour grumpy face) I will say that I did not know it was only day 2 of being open for business, so I hope they can figure out the menu and seating for this place.
