I had a great date night with my husband at Taco Beach Shack. We were greeted with a smile upon entry, and told we could choose where to sit. The mini couches were very comfortable and the decor was very cool. We got 2 servers, as one of them was in training, and both were very nice to us. They took our drink and food order fairly fast. The drink was delicious, and right amount to share. I had 2 tacos, Mahi Mahi and Korean Short Rib. The portions were generous and they tasted delicious. I used to be a regular pre Covid and haven't been here since. Last night I was nearby and an urge doe tacos. There were some differences I noticed. The price of tacos divulged from $3 to $6. I sat at the bar and usually the bartender would serve me. This time it was a waitress. No big deal. They have music but noticed the stage was gone. I guess no more live music. Instead a DJ played his tunes. But LOUD! so there was a change in atmosphere from what I remember it being. But it still had the funky feel to it. As for the tacos. Just as good as ever. I love the blend of spices and sauces packed into the taco. And a generous portion of carnitas which I ordered. Plus their spiced corn on the cob, yummy. Went here for dinner the first night in Hollywood. My Director had been here a few nights before, and said it was good. He was right! Chill vibe, we got seats out on the patio on some couches. They had a DJ playing some tunes, cool atmosphere. We got a couple orders of chips/queso/guacamole to start, and all were tasty! I went with a crispy shrimp burrito for my entree. It was a decent sized burrito. I always judge burritos vs San Diego, so this was not in the same ballpark as the great burritos of SD, but, it held its own and was pretty darn delicious! How the mighty have fallen. The last time I came here was probably in 2018 and it was always the best place to go while in the area. The food, pricing, service and vibes were always great. My last visit here this past week was the complete opposite. You pay for metered parking and it can be a bit difficult to find a spot. We were sat within 15 minutes. Prior to coming in we googled "Taco Beach Shack Happy hour" to make sure we were within the time frame. (10pm-2am $2 Margaritas/budlights and $3 for 3 mini tacos of your choice). One of the best specials ever (RIP). When we sat down we asked the waitress which were the tacos that were on special for the happy hour. She scoffed and said "we don't have that anymore" with a big sarcastic smile "that must have been a REALLY long time ago." We said we needed a moment to look through the menu and we did not see her for about 15 minutes, that became an on going thing. I figured if there were no more specials, the quality must have really increased and the new pricing would definitely make it worth it. I ordered the brisket quesadilla. It was not good and all of the ingredients tasted cheap and bad quality... no flavor at all. It was $16. I also ordered a Margarita which tasted like sugar water and was $13.50. When we received the checks we wanted to split everything three ways and the server said (cue in big sarcastic fake smile) "Unfortunately I can't do that, I can either take one card or split it directly in half". I was a server a few years back and splitting checks was never an issue, but okay. Too add insult to injury, we all had bad stomach aches for the next few hours. Perhaps they have new owners? I understand covid has affected a lot of businesses. The original happy hour they had was probably not very cost effective but I think a more appropriate response would have been to adjust it and if they weren't going to do that, then at least make sure the food and drinks are undeniably good and top tier quality. Taco Brach Shack Is one of favorite places to go when we are at Hollywood Beach. It's located pretty much at the most southern part of the Boardwalk, so plan accordingly when parking. The atmosphere is lively, with a live band playing music and outdoor seating under a covered awning/tent area, and bistro lighting. If you're looking for a quiet and intimate dinner, this is not the place, however if you are looking for good food and good times you've got the jackpot. There's various seating areas separated by plants which give the place a really cool feel. The restaurant can get pretty busy with a line outside and service could be a little slow, however trust me it's worth the wait. Our last trip there was at night time with the kids and they had a great time dancing to the music and with little ones you tend to always worry if they will eat the food, but they both loved it. For drinks we ordered the Spicy and Classic Margaritas, and for food we got the Shrimp Tacos, Mahi Mahi Tacos and Korean Short Rib Tacos and the Kids Cheese Pizza. The drinks were great, and I would definitely recommend the Korean Short Rib Tacos. The Crispy Shrimp Tacos come with a Mango Pineapple Slaw, so make sure to try that out as well. For dessert we got the Cheesecake Burrito, but I would just skip that next time. Make sure to get the Taco Combos, which come with Black Beans, Rice and Seasoned Corn on the Cob... so good and such a great value versus individual Tacos. This used to be my favorite place to eat in Hollywood! I still love it--seems like they changed the decor--the staff are always very personable and add to the vibe; however (!) I went last night and it seems gratuities are now included at 14%--that's fine. But they don't inform you of that---so when the auto percentage tips appear to add tip, they are 3, 5, and 7%. Having been deceived before, by Ben's Next Door in DC, I now know when you see those small percentages as suggested tip amount, it means a gratuity is automatically included. So I told my tricky waitress this, casually, like "oh gratuity is included". She said no, I said well the suggested percentages that low are an indication that a gratuity is already included, she doubled down, saying " we are trying to get my manager to change those amounts". Taco beach shack is located off A1A, with its own well lit parking lot with a plethora of parking. On today's date I dined at Taco Beach Shack with my girlfriend, cousin and his wife. There was a lengthy wait (over 60 minutes) however we were advised 10 minutes into the wait that we could go sit at a bar area and order drinks. We did this and were also told we could order food there as well, thus circumventing the 60+ minute wait time. We ordered Michelob ultra beers, and this is where there situation gets sketchy. A male employee served us the drinks, he was given a $50 bill, and he returned $10 as change. This was after we tried paying with a credit card and he specifically asked if we had cash, because the drinks are cheaper if we paid in cash. When he gave the $10 change, he was reminded that he was given a $50 bill for the drinks. There was no way 3 beers cost $40! He said "oh that's right, and then gave a $20 back as change, thus making the beers $10 each. Whatever. We ordered shrimp combo tacos for dinner. The food came hot, the rice was way over cooked, almost not edible actually. The tacos were fair, nothing special. I was hoping for great tacos, these were not great. The shrimp was fried, however there were hard bites as we ate the tacos. I don't know what the issue was, but they were nothing to write home about. As we dined, I continued to watch the male server who served us the beers earlier. As I watched him throughout the meal, I observed him taking cash from customers ordering drinks, putting money in his rear pocket, and then doing something at the register, however not putting the customer money in the cash drawer. It was obvious and apparent that he was stealing money from the business and the customers as he did to us by not providing the correct change to us for the ultras we had purchased. This really had no impact on the star rating, since he didn't make the food and isn't responsible for its quality, however he was shady, and his photo was taken and attached so management can address his theft issue. Overall, a bit disappointing. I wanted to like taco beach shack, however I cannot recommend it based on the food quality. Went here today for an early dinner. They don't have a private parking lot so you're forced to pay at one of the pricey private lots around the place. We paid $5 per hour. Upon entering the place they had a DJ set up on the stage playing really loud club music. It was hard to have a conversation. The place has outdoor seating throughout, so good for pandemic times. Our server was friendly and took our order quickly. We ordered a small taco for $5 and a combo of 3 pork tacos, corn on the cob, beans, and rice. The tacos were flavorful, but the rest of the food was tasteless. It cost us $37 plus tip for the food and two Cans of Corona. For simple Mexican food, it's not that cheap. I think this place is more suited for millennials who just want to hang out and drink...though I think one of the nearby beach bars, with an ocean-view, is your better bet. read more

As out-of-towners, we were looking for a happy hour (HH) and came across the Taco Beach Shack online and their advertisement for HH - welp, we showed up and they said HH was gone long ago, so beware. The chips and salsa were top notch and complementary. Two of us got margs - I got a strawberry marg and my friend got a regular one. Both of us had one sip and acknowledge that we think they were strong but man they didn't taste good at all. Literally the worst margs I've tasted, so sad. We ordered pico with white cheese with chips as an appetizer The chips and dip. The white cheese is delish! The food was served cold, and we sent it back twice and something in my stomach told me that food return was played with.
