The food is actually good and reasonably priced, just don't expect to be greeted by a friendly staff. The guy taking our order looked like a gang member and as friendly as his switchblade. This was the experience that actually made me make an account so I can start writing reviews. Came through around 3:30am. We were the only people in line the entire time we were there. When we pulled to the box the greeting was pretty stern and as we started ordering I noticed the woman was extremely rude. It unsettled my partner and I to the point where I thought "are you kidding me?". I work in a drive thru myself so I have little tolerance for those sort of encounters and I try to make the order as easy as possible. I'm so disappointed in this trip because I absolutely love Taco Cabana and have been coming my entire youth. Great place to come for late night or post game eats! TC is always a great option for some tex-mex food. It has a good mix of items that everyone can eat. Huge menu that serves anything from Chile rellanos, burritos, quesadillas, half chicken and even breakfast at all times of day! And the good thing is that it's done fairly quick but doesn't taste like a basic Taco Johns joint! I think It's a nice break from the usual Mexican/New Mexican styles of food around Abq. Plus if you need to spice it up more they have a salsa bar with a variety of flavors. Best chicken soft taco's you'll ever have. At just about a buck fifty each, super reasonably priced considering the fact that the tacos are huge. They home make the tortillas there and you can taste it, the chicken is always perfect and they sprinkle cheese on top which is melted by the time you open your taco to stuff it full of their delicious, roasted, complimentary green chile. read more

Order Guy at the drive up said no Substitutions and made us feel like we were a problem. I don't think he likes working there. He was very unfriendly and had no personality and don't dare ask for anything extra. Vegetarians beware. Taco Cabana employees are told to say their Black Beans are made without meat; so you would think you would have a vegetarian option. However, they ladle chicken and chicken broth into the black beans after they are made "to improve the taste". While visiting with friends that had moved to Albuquerque, I was also told they may be using lard (animal fat) to make their tortillas. I found meat in my black beans, but I cannot confirm about the lard in the tortillas. But if they lie about the black beans, what else will they lie about? So if you are vegetarian, or have a child who has optioned to be vegetarian, DO NOT EAT at Taco Cabana. read more

Just ate at Taco Cabana. The shift manager started taking our order, however she couldn't speak English well enough to understand our order and right in the middle of taking our order she walked away and someone came up in a minute or so and finished taking our order. Our food took awhile and when we went up to check on it all was there except our chili rellano. The woman told us they needed to make some chili relianos and we could take what was ready and they would call our number as soon as the relianos were ready. We were almost done , went to check on the relianos and they had forgotten about them. When we finally did get them, there was a hunk of unmelted cheese in the middle do the chilis, like a piece of string cheese? I ordered a Corona and they said they would bring it out to me but never did, we finally had to ask for it again. Terrible service, mediocre food. read more

I missed this place so much since moving from San Antonio where it was a must have once a week. This location did not disappoint. I visited twice driving through NM. You CANNOT find better Mexican in many restaurants, the tortillas are AWESOME. Okay, so maybe my opinion of this place is a little biased based on my love of their food... the prices are decent and after living in Arizona and Texas and growing up in a Mexican home, I like to think I know what I am talking about. How can you not like a place that has Barq's Red Cream soda in a fountain?! I accidentally dropped the hot plate in the trash on one of the stops in, and the staff was nice to me about it despite the fact that there were signs posted everywhere saying NOT to throw them away. Just ate at taco cabana for the first and last time. I ordered the bean and cheese taco as it seemed to be one of the few vegetarian options. Got two bites down before I realized that there's bacon in the beans. For those of us who are vegetarian the menu is extremely misleading. NOWHERE on the menu does it say that the beans contain bacon. I went up to the counter and asked if there was supposed to be bacon in the beans or if it was a mistake, I was told that the beans that come on the taco are always made with bacon (again it says that nowhere on the menu) and asked if they had anything on their menu that didn't have meat in it, person at the counter seemed so confused by what I was asking and actually turned to help another customer instead and I was ignored. I will never come back again! Now I have been violently vomiting for the past hour. Now, I know that every restaurant doesn't have vegetarian options and that's okay, but the ingredients in the items should be clearly specified for those of us who have dietary restrictions, FIX YOUR MENU!!!!!! read more

Not all items for sale are listed on the price board for the drive-up. You ask the employee at the speaker and you're given the wrong price. When you go to pay at the window, they don't stand by the price the employee quoted you. The manager would not make it right. (less than a dollar!) Not that they care, but they lost a very good customer due to very, very poor customer service. read more

To say I love this place would be an understatement. I found everything is tasty but there is one dish that is above the rest. One dish that makes me forget this is supposed to be fast food. The beef fajitas are to die for. They have been the same tasty fajitas since I have been coming here (10 years+). Occasionally I will mix it up by having a tostada, spinage quesadilla, or a burrito but I almost always get the fajitas. They are served 1 pound (good for 3-4 people), 1/2 good for 2 people ($5 lunch), and single fajita plate. They have a salsa bar with many choices. Margaritas are very cheap but more like a spiked icee. The deserts are tasty, flan, Leche cake (seasonal I believe), and my favorite churros that are fresh and hot when they come out with a gooey center. There watermelon and cantelop drinks are great in the summer. This is my favorite restaurant. I found the Montgomery location is the best followed by San Mateo read more
