This is solely based on my drive thru experience. I couldn't of been more disrespected from the cashier taking my order. The attitude I received was off putting. Crappy experience, crappy food. Ordered a steak quesadilla that hardly had any meat. They are stingy with the salsa now that the salsa bar is closed...and they seem put out if you ask for more. They lady who have me napkins was a wearing gloves that had food on them, so the napkins were filthy. read more

It's 9:30 and I'm driving aimlessly down San Mateo searching for something that is true ABQ and not chain hell. Oh there is Garcia's, but it's closed already and then the parade of chain places begin. Every fast food joint in the book looks open and then we have the old faithful, Chili's and AppleBees, but nothing else. Where are all the 24 hour taco joints that every freakin city has, where is the real Albuquerque at this time of night on one of their busiest streets? That's right this town has got nothing after 9pm, just punks driving fast and weaving through lanes til I see them at the next stoplight and lots of tattoos and crooked hats. Found this place (yeah, it's a chain, but not national and I never heard of it) at the far end of San Mateo and hit the drive through. It was a decent meal of chicken fajitas (not all white meat as promised) and the beans were a bit soupy. Rice was good and there was a good portion of guac, sour cream and salsa to dress up the already pre-stuffed tortillas. The thing that sets this place apart is the tortillas - these things are addicting and hot and fresh - and they give you two extra as well. That was the highlight of the $6.59 meal and as I drove back to eat the stuff I wondered what happened to ABQ and why do the people have to suffer late at night here so much. read more

I was just looking for a tasty beef burrito and was surprised by the Barbacoa Burrito from this establishment. It was very good and while it took a little while even at 1:30pm to get through the drive thru I'd go back again. This is NOT the usual Taco Cabana, we asked the manager why this location is so good and totally amazing-they're franchised and take great pride in their food. From the management to the busser, they all work together to provide an experience that feels welcoming and efficient. Their meats are seasoned and tasty but the tortillas, oh man the tortillas! The last time I purchased a street taco plate, everything was cold and stale. I drove back and the remake of the order was edible. I thought after an incredibly long drive I would try Taco Cabana one more time, I asked for pico de gio (spelled wrong I am certain) and jalapenos. I used to love Taco Cabana when I lived in Austin, until I got food poisoning from them and refused to eat there for years. My wife, however, loves this place, and over the past couple of years I have started to appreciate it again. It is by no means my favorite place to eat, and I'm still a bit grossed out at the fact that they microwave your plate before serving it to give it the appearance that it is steaming hot off the grill or stove or whatever. However, with all that said. I have not got sick from eating there since that first time over 10 years ago, and it is fine for some quick, relatively cheap food. The horchata is really good there, and I love that they have Red Creme Soda. So it's ok, but nothing to be too excited about. read more

Taco Cabana is where you go when 1-you're hungry 2-you don't have much time 3-you're craving some good food. I come here for lunch during the week or in the evening when I need to pick up dinner for my picky/finicky 9 year old who wants nachos. (They fix them "her way"). Taco Cabana comes through for me every time. Breakfast. Lunch. Dinner. Prices are reasonable and service is usually very friendly and professional. I think my favorite part of Taco Cabana is the salsa bar; always fresh, always full with all your choices & they keep it clean. I think my only suggestion for Taco Cabana on San Mateo would be to put a friendlier person at your drive thru window in the early weekday mornings, a smile and a good morning would have been a good way to start the day. read more

Who ever was working drive thru November 8th @8:20pm has MAJOR attitude. I ordered one soft beef taco at the order menu. I was told to drive forward. I pull up to the window and was told my total was 17$ , I said I only ordered one taco and she rolled her eyes and asked if it was beef or chicken so I repeated to her what my order was again and then she puts it in the computer and tells me the total all rude and as im getting the change , she closes the window on me all rude and walks away, then comes back gets the money and closes window rude again and when she brings me my taco , I asked for salsa and she's still giving me attitude and then I ask for a spoon because I didn't get a change when I asked for salsa cuz she walked away , she handed my spoon to me wjth attitude and I always dropped it cuz she didnt wait until I got a good grip. So who ever is hiring rude employees should check that. Females there have always came off so unhappy with their jobs their and take it out on customers who PAY for the food . We have eaten at all three Albuquerque Taco Cabana's. This one on San Mateo is convenient for us, we've been eating at this one for over 10 years, and have always had good food and good service. They recently expanded the dining room a bit. The roasted chicken is great! read more

From reading the reviews, I expected a lot more from this place. My husband and I went to eat one evening and his plate and my plate tasted like the same plate even though they were nothing alike. Whenever my daughter isn't feeling well she wants pasole, and she's always excited when I bring it from Taco Cabana for her. It's not the quickest meal to make, so it's great that a fast food place has one that she enjoys. We also like their #21 burrito w sour cream and their watermelon drink, which is a seasonal item. They make their own tortillas, so their burritos are pretty tasty for a fast food place. read more

The drive thru employee (Native American w a long pony tail) made threatening comments because I touched the drive thru window to catch his attention. Also, my order was made incorrectly. I thought about talking to shift manager but I assume I'd deal with the same bad attitude and didn't feel like arguing with anyone. Great selection of New Mexican and Mexican fast food, WAY better than Taco Bell! I had the brisket tacos and my wife had the carne street tacos. Both were flavorful, but I actually liked the street tacos better than the brisket tacos. We enjoyed our lunch out on the enclosed patio, in the sun, but out of the wind. Went by here late night after a flight because the line at Whataburger was too long. I have only eaten at Taco Cabana once before, in Texas several years ago. I remembered it being passable, for fast food. In this case, I can't say that. Perhaps it was my fault for daring to order beyond the basics, but my barbacoa burrito was disgusting. The meat was so fatty that it had the texture of slime. On top of that, the tortilla didn't even taste fully cooked. I was starving, so I ate the whole thing, but it was pretty traumatizing. read more

I came to the drive thru to order some dinner. First of all the attendant over the speaker was not friendly at all. She seemed bothered when I tried to ask her questions about the menu and when I pulled up to the window she wasn't any friendlier. Part of my order was chips and quest, in which I informed her that I wanted the large order. When I take my order she doesn't even include the chips. When I go in to complain, I realize that she also over charged me by a dollar. When I explained this to the manager who was getting my chips, he basically said that "she said I didn't want chips," insinuating of course that I must be the one not telling the truth. He wasn't any more friendly. If businesses are going to have rude employees, or bad service, than they have to face the consequences. read more

Horrible customer service and experience. Sat in drive thru for over 20 minutes. Once I got to the window I was given a total that was doubled what I ordered. I asked the young girl why the total was so much she rudely stated that was my total when I said what I ordered she again gave me attitude that she didn't have my order she only had two orders in her system and there were two cars behind me. How is that possible there were cars ahead of me. Obviously she didn't enter my order. She didn't even offer to take my order and just walked away from the window. The breakfast tacos are delicious. The sausage, chorizo, and bacon are really great. The lengua is fantastic, very tender and delicious. I would highly recommend trying it if you haven't. The barbacoa was highly recommended as well. You can't beat the price either. All in all this is a great breakfast place, between a great price and great food this place is awesome.
