Love me some taco cabana! They have to be my favorite spot to go in ABQ when I'm in need of something quick, tasty, and cheap. I always like to order the breakfast tacos with bacon and the menudo. Another go to item is the lengua taco or burrito. Can't mess with either of them up. Make sure when you order the menudo you get the lime, cilantro, and onions so you can add it when you get home. It's a game changer. If you got the munchies or need to sober up after a late night of drinking this place has you covered! Plus did I mention it's cheap! I'm not sure what happened to this place. It used to be SO good, I would tell people if they had tablecloths and ambient lighting, they could charge $13 a plate for their food. It was that good. Fresh, well-made, delicious. Then something happened in the last couple of years. Surly employees, botched orders, lower quality of food. Since it was a staple for us, we kept trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. We were usually disappointed. The last couple of times we've eaten there, the food was subpar. If you have to go with Mexican fast food this is the place. Don't let the packed parking lot and long line fool you, the staff can rack out a lunch rush no sweat and still provide a hot and fresh made meal within 8 minutes after after placing my order. The above average salsa bar has a good selection of different salsas mostly mild offerings but you can spice it easily with some jalapeños. Food was served quick and piping hot with good flavor and texture. Who knew Taco Cabana has a great breakfast? We paid about $13 for two beverages and two breakfast plates. I was floored at how inexpensive it was and how good everything tasted! They really don't skimp on the bacon or the tortillas in the AM which is great! I love that the full salsa bar is available too. I believe Taco Cabana is better dined in with bottomless coffee and friendly staff. This particular location checks all the boxes, pretty much. read more

Please note, my five star review is due to my deep, personal love for this place. Your own experience will vary. When Bound To Be Read was still around, and I was there 40 hours a week, I developed my Taco Cabana addiction. It got so bad, that I found myself running there for lunch at least 3, sometimes 4 days a week. I always get the #14 with red. Usually to go. I'll post a picture of it up here, because I love it so much. I live downtown now, far, far away from my beloved Cabana. I still have to get myself over their at least once or twice a month. It's cheap, and holy god, I love it. I still go to this one on San Mateo, as I think they make their food better than the other locations. That's probably a delusion. read more

They may not look very appetizing and the strangely low price may make you skeptical about the huevos rancheros here, but don't worry they come through. In fact, they may be the best deal in town. Unlike a lot of places, Taco Cabana ponies up and gives you bacon on the side of your huevos rancheros, and this isn't some thin, limp, greasy, flavorless bacon, but actual high quality stuff and a lot of it. Then, of course, it the two eggs on corn tortillas absolutely drowning in red chile sauce, with plenty of beans on the side. No potatoes, but those aren't really missed when you get to the bacon. But you do get one of their incredible, fresh, made-to-order flour tortillas. (These come with nearly everything you order and are reason enough to try TC.) The carne adovada is also phenomenal for the price. The succulent, tender pork slow-cooked in spicy red chile is among the best in town, as well as being among the cheapest. It's one hell of a combination. I haven't explored the menu as much as I'd like to, just because I'm in love with the huevos rancheros and carne adovada burrito (I usually order both). But I always sample whatever my wife orders and nothing has disappointed me yet. Quality ingredients, great portions and prices. The Cabana also features an amazing fixin's bar with warm green chiles, pico de gallo, ranchero salsa, tomatilla salsa, onions, cilantro, and pickled jalapenos. Something for everyone. This really adds value to anything you order here, since you can fix it up with as much as you want of these items. Great place for a cheap meal and a great place for New Mexican food, and this location seems to be better than the few others I've tried. And guess what?? when u get to the drive window first thing u see is one. That was our first red flag.. too late we already order. Shrimp tacos tasted like rubber, no flavor and tortilla they were on not even heated on a grill. Bean & Cheese Nacho smothered with Fake Cheese & Beans tasted like came out of a can. Just like any drive through they tend to be busy so make sure to check your order before you leave. Don't forget to ask for your favorite sauce because they won't ask you. Prices are super cheap at Taco Cabana. Homemade tortillas. As a vegetarian, I felt there was a good amount of items to choose from on the menu. Wasn't super in love with their refried beans. I ordered their bean and cheese burrito. Not bad. Here is my minus 1 stars justification. Okay what is up with this salsa bar located right in the middle of the waiting area? It is like asking for a fight to break out. I had the hardest time trying to maneuver around, just to fill up my salsa cups. Plus I think if the cups were located on both sides of the oasis, it would make it a little less crazy. Since I'm just a visitor, I had to try the red cream soda. It tasted like I was drinking candy. Taco Cabana is A-OK in my book, and the fact that the drive thru is open 24 hours is a big plus. I like their soft tacos, unlimited trips to the toppings bar [when dining in], and their "homemade" tortillas. Back in the day -- I'm speaking of last millennium -- my friends and I would stop here after the good ol' Midnight Rodeo would close for the night. Now-a-days, I come here for a snack stop because you can order as much or as little as you'd like. I think the next time I dine in, I'll try something on the menu I have never tried before. Hummmm... This is a good late night spot. Almost too much to choose from. I usually get the steak fajitas. most of the time they are good but sometimes they are grisly. I got the number 67, fajitas and eggs. I chose chicken with my order but when I picked it up it had steak. I asked them to fix it. I came here after a movie and it has become one of my favorite places to sit back and relax. They offer free wifi, but I couldn't connect to their router, so we'll see if it actually is true. The food was good and I have a new love for their pico de gallo. Although, I only eat the bean and cheese nachos here, I can only comment on it and I like it. Taco cabana is a hit or miss! I mostly only go here I forget breakfast they have a wide variety of breakfast items and this location is close to work so generally speaking it's a no brainer. I like the fact that they hustle there, no matter how busy it gets they get you in and out especially through the drive up window. I don't recommend getting any burrito that has meat because for some reason it feels like they always throw way to much meat in them which is kinda surprising but then again I am not much of a meat eater so maybe it just seems overwhelming for me. But I will say this taco cabana has the best cantaloupe water hands down, it's seasonal usually they start in serving it in late May and stop in late August but as soon as they start I think I go maybe once a week to get me some cantaloupe water with ice it's the most refreshing drink for a hot summer day. read more
