I recently relocated to the Fort Worth northern suburbs and was looking for a margarita and good Mexican food. I am feeling pretty let-down by my fellow Yelpers. Went to Try Taco Chon with a 4.7 rating... and, what??? I ordered something simple... Nachos Supreme with Carnitas. The carnitas were utterly flavorless - no notes of citrus, spices or any frying of the pork. The cheese sauce actually had less flavor than a high school football snack shack. Tasted straight out of the gallonsizwd can. Very light on tomatoes, but plenty of jalapeños though. Also, they are sodas and aguas frescas only. Why in the world do they have a bar in there? Very nice people, and a nice clean restaurant, but the food is sub-par. Won't be back, and can't recommend. read more

I'm becoming a regular here! My wife I shared two plates of Carne Asada and Chorizo tacos, delicious as always. I love their hot habanero sauce! We also had two esquites and washed it all down with a couple Mexican sodas. The dining room hasn't changed much since the last time we were here. But it's a clean industrial look, very hip. They also have a full bar, most people stick to beer and margaritas. The service is always excellent, this family run business knows how to treat customers. We used to love eating at Taco Chon. It has always been a bit pricey, but the quality of the food made it worth it. After moving away, we hadn't been back in over a year and a half, so we were excited to return when we were in the area. Right away, things felt different. The restaurant was much less busy than it used to be, and the drink fridge was mostly empty with a very limited selection compared to before. We ordered birria, barbacoa, and tripitas tacos, along with their corn in a cup. I requested my tripitas tacos cooked medium. When the food arrived, the birria and barbacoa tacos were just okay -- not nearly as good as we remembered. The tripitas tacos were overcooked and cold. When I took them back, I was told they are not cooked to order but prepared at the beginning of the day and simply reheated. I did ask to exchange them for something else, which they did accommodate. The corn in a cup was especially disappointing. It was just plain corn, and the house chile that used to make it so good was no longer included. Overall, the quality of both the food and the restaurant has clearly declined. I'm not sure if there has been a change in ownership or management, but the experience was very disappointing. We tried this place and the service was good, the tacos are pretty close to authentic. The pastor wasn't as rich in flavor, but the tripa and steak were pretty good. The place in general looks like an authentic Mexican restaurant and they play Latin music out loud. I would give it another try to check out other options from their menu. read more

We've been looking for good Birria tacos for quite some time. So when we saw a far north FW restaurant that was getting rave Yelp reviews, we knew where we had to go. Right away when you walk inside you fell like you're at someone's family gathering. The decor is super cool but also a great place for families. Loved that it appears to be a family business! The bar area is separate from ordering the food. My wife went to the bar to order our margaritas while I ordered our food. So there's no chips and salsa on the menu that I could find. They also don't offer guacamole, which is a bummer. When I asked about chips and salsa, the girl said we don't have salsa with the chips so you can use the containers of salsa. That was kind of odd. Hard to just keep squeezing hot sauce onto each chip. However, the chips were amazing. They also didn't bring the chips out first or let us know. I ordered the nachos and my wife wanted the Birria tacos. The tacos don't come with sides so we ordered the beans and rice as sides. My nachos were really really good! The chips didn't get soggy and lots of steak portion , along with the cheese and everything else. My wife absolutely loved the Birria tacos. The dipping sauce was tasty and made a big mess, which is always a good sign. The beans and rice were good but not great. A little more seasoning and they both were just warm, not hot. Unexpected find on an expected day. Driving around and decided to stop in and check it out. So glad I did. The atmosphere was very inviting. A very cute taco place with a bar. It seems like it could be a lively place. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The food was quite good. I originally came in for tacos but the special of the day was a Mexican hot dog and it looked so good and tasty that I had to order it. No regrets whatsoever. Somehow, we lived around the corner from Taco Con for almost five years and never tried it. Our ridiculous loss because this place is BOMB. We tend to come on Saturdays or Sundays because my other half loves Menudo and claims that it's world class here. I've tried the Burria and taco salad and both were deelish. Taco Chon is family-run, and the sincere care for food and service shows in every freshly made-to-order delivery we have enjoyed here. My only nitpick is that "for here" orders are given in styrofoam "to go" containers. I would enjoy the eating experience more and think less about eco-impact if they served on dishes. Menudo is the only item that's served in a reusable dish. Otherwise, I highly recommend Taco Chon. Expect a long line on Saturday and Sunday! read more

This is one of our favorite local spots for Taco's, they have Chicarron, Lengua, Tripe and many more on a daily basis. The tortas are all good and great for a filling lunch, recently expanded again to open up space next door and added bar area. Price is reasonable and the salsa comes in 3 varieties, green being my go to be careful here. What's not to live good food friendly folks only downside is the parking it's in a crowded strip mall so that can be somewhat challenging getting in and out. Found this place on Yelp! Ngl, it was the Birria tacos that attracted me here. First time I went they didn't have any because it wasn't a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. (Those are the days they have Birria) they also have menudo on the weekends as well. Their horchata is soooooo goood. Today I came on a Saturday and I came for the delicious Birria this time. It tasted great, and they're not stingy with their meats on the tacos. I love that they have spicy habanero salsa, along with two other mild and medium salsas. The staff here is very nice and sweet, from the servers/cashiers to the cooks behind them. Everyone was really nice here. I always usually get a fruit punch jarritos when I eat my tacos, glad they have that option and many other flavors. They also have a bar in here with a pretty wide selection of tequilas. Was referred to try this place out from a stranger. He talked highly of their food and he was right! I tried their Birria tacos and they were bomb! They put a lot of meat, flavor was rich and juicy. The radish and onions, cilantro was fresh and crisp and ohhh the consume that you dip the taco into was flavorful. I definitely will be back again to try other things on their menu. We went here for menudo today and were very disappointed. The little meat there was either over cooked mixed with meat that was not cooked enough. There was way too much corn and the flavor was not as good. We always enjoyed having our menudo here but this really disappointed me. read more

Went to try out Taco Chon this evening! When we walked in we were greeted by the girl at the register who was very nice. Very welcoming. I ordered the 3 tacos with rice and refried beans plate. I got the steak tacos with cilantro and onions. It came out to $11.50+tax so around $12.68 or so. The food was so good. The refried beans were seasoned very nicely, the rice was cooked to perfection and let me just say that the tacos were amazing! I will be returning to try the 4 Birria tacos with the consume (I think it was $15.99) which they only serve Fridays to Sundays (I believe, don't quote me lol). They also serve Menudo on certain days as well, not a fan of menudo so didn't really pay attention to the days. If you're looking for a small family establishment to support and have a great meal, I definitely recommend Taco Chon! read more

The interior of the store is spacious and inviting. I ordered two chicken tacos and a small cup of elote. The lady serving me suggested adding hot sauce to the elote which was yummy. So we've been back a few times since my last review and honestly, the food quality (in my opinion) is simply not the same. This is still a great place to get tacos but I wouldn't say it's a 5 star place anymore. They've expanded the place which is really nice. There's a lot more seating and the service is really solid. First of all kudos to this restaurant for opening up in 2020 amid a pandemic! I mean come on? The interior is really eye catching and welcoming. There are quit a few places to sit (now that 25% of us are allowed) and we did stay to eat our breakfast. They have a nice area outside that I hope they put a few tables as eating outside would have been great. We ordered breakfast tacos with ham and my husband had eggs with rice and beans. I brought my niece and wife here this past Saturday at 7:35 PM. I raved about this place because during my last visit, it was amazing! Not so much this time around. When we placed our order, the lady at the counter told us she's going to put our food in a to-go box because they're closing at 8 PM. She also hinted that we need to take it to go or eat outside. This didn't sit well with me. It was scorching hot out and we wanted to dine-in where there was AC. Our food was ready in about 10 minutes. It was around 7:45 PM so we still had a good 15 minutes before they closed. Most people eat dinner around 7:30 PM, so hinting to your customers that you prefer we don't dine in is distasteful. Why kick people out at exactly 8 PM? If we get there before you close, treat us like you want us there, instead of making us feel like a burden. We tried the birria tacos here and it was a huge let down. The meat was so dry! We also ordered a variety of tacos (tripas, al pastor, and barbacoa) and they all lacked flavor. This is our new taco spot! I will not go anywhere else as long as I'm still living nearby. Their street tacos or THE BEST in the area! Their tortillas are made fresh and homemade (off site) and their salsa is SPICY!!! Just how I like it! They are the real deal! I was getting pretty tired of street tacos with mild salsa from other places. I have had the pastor, barbacoa, asada and carnitas so far. I look forward to trying all the other meats! The restaurant is very nicely decorated and looks clean (This can be hard to find in the best taco joints). Customer service is also very friendly and quick. You can call ahead and order take-out. My only complaint is that they don't open early enough! I wanted a breakfast burrito before work, but they don't open until late morning. Hopefully that can be an option in the future. read more
