The food here is always fresh and delicious. I get the veggie burrito and side of guacamole. The guacamole is really yummy! My husband gets the chicken quesadilla which he likes. The service is great, and the food is typically made in less than 5 minutes. The restaurant is inside a gas station which seems a little odd but easy to order and pick up. Went last night because we were craving their rice and beans. Discovered later at home that this time they not only threw the enchilada together fast ( tortilla filled with a tablespoon of tiny pieces of beef/ rolled up/ very small amount of enchilada sauce put on top) but THEN.... they zapped the styrofoam box containing the enchiladas (2) in the microwave. Directly under the mound of shredded lettuce and two small enchiladas the styrofoam was hardened/ melted and retained the red color right under each piece. Styrofoam has been proven to be carcinogenic and the cancerous chemicals enter your food when cooked inside a styrofoam box. We thought they had stopped doing this. The nachos grande had a smaller portion of ground beef just quickly tossed in one clump, not sprinkled all over. The cheese not the same delicious cheese of last year. This was the second time we've eaten here and the food was exceptional. We shared the steak, shrimp, chicken and chorizo Mesquite grill. Came with 6 (we asked for corn) tortillas. Wow. The breakfast burrito I had from Taco Jalisco was amazing. The churros were delicious too. I think everyone in our group enjoyed the food from this humble joint located inside the Texaco gas station on S Tamiami Trail (41) just south of Stickney Point Rd. One of my former coworkers, who now lives in Bradenton, recommended Taco Jalisco to me. He described it as "a must" for food in Sarasota. I don't take his recommendations lightly because his opinion is one I take seriously. My friends and I were vacationing in nearby Siesta Key and a couple guys in our group, coincidentally, found this place independent that recommendation. Our group of eight ended up getting breakfast from here. We got several of the following breakfast burritos and multiple orders of the churros as well: * Sausage and Egg Burrito ($5.99 each) * Chorizo and Egg Burrito ($5.99 each) * Steak and Egg Burrito ($6.49 each) * Churros (3 for $4.99) All of the above breakfast burritos came with cheese and tomato salsa. I had the Chorizo and Egg Burrito. It was hot, fresh, filling, and incredibly delicious. It was packed with plenty of flavorful, mouthwatering chorizo. I loved the fluffy egg and the comforting cheese too. Simply put, it was the perfect breakfast burrito. And at $5.99, a great value too. The churros were outstanding as well. Crisp, long, fresh, warm, and sweet with plenty of delectable cinnamon sugar on the outside. The burritos were wrapped in foil, marked with a black Sharpie to identify burrito type, and packed in plain brown bags. The churros too. Taco Jalisco had nine total breakfast burrito varieties to choose from and overall, their menu was quite expansive for a small restaurant located inside a gas station convenience store. By the way, the top of the receipt printed "Welcome to 00304961 JDS SUNMAR" and then the address above. No "Taco Jalisco" or "Texaco" or anything like that. All of the burritos and churros were listed as a single item, "TACO," for $86.85. How it worked was Taco Jalisco staff rang everything up at the restaurant counter and then payment was actually made by us to the convenience store cashier. read more

Cochinita Pibil is five star delicious. I ordered without onions and habanero sauce. The red and green salsas are too spicy for me. The chicken taco was pretty good, carne asada was fine. I did not like the ground beef in the Gordita, pretty boring. The rice and beans are good. I will absolutely go back and try other "not tacos" stuff. read more

Yes! Gas station tacos! It's located inside the Texaco, and I didn't know this at first and my GPS was sending me on a weird route through a (very cute) trailer park. Anyway, I'm glad I didn't give up and found it thanks to the other review/tip mentioning Texaco. The tacos are delicious. Just delicious. This place is amazing! Little hidden gem within the gas station. Has seating for dining in and they will bring out your food so no need to stand around waiting. The food was so delicious! The flavors will definitely made my taste buds happy! We both got taco platters that came with beans and rice and they were all so flavorful! Excellent Taco el Pastor(pork) at a remarkable $2.50 plus tax! The Carne Asada (steak) taco was also good, but I really enjoyed the Pastor. The pork was cut into squares and cooked with seasoning, add some grilled onions and a touch of fresh cilandro on the grilled corn tortilla, makes for a remarkable punch of juicy joy in your mouth. The rice was excellent, not burnt or crispy, and the portion was just right. The refried beans are authentic and flavorful. The food is cooked to order and comes hot. The seasonings like salsa, green or red, are on the counter for you to serve yourself. Mind you, this is inside the Texaco gas station and you place your food order and are given a food order receipt to take to the gas station register for payment. On your way to the register, you might need to grab something to drink, then bring it all to the register to pay. Bring back your paid receipt to get your food order. Interesting setup and a win-win for all of us. I honestly don't think this Texaco gas station would be getting as much traffic as they are, thanks mostly to this authentic Mexican spot. Their food area is spotlessly clean and so were the couple of tables and counter. Rolls of paper towels encourage you to enjoy your food. If you come during lunch time, give yourself a few minutes, because there is a loyal patronage and the lines can form. There are some breakfast items too. Dinner is a bit more peaceful but the food is the same, delicious! read more

Taking up half of the convenience store at a gas station, at Taco Jalisco you order your meal in the back and pay at the cash register up front. Seating is very limited- only a few tables, and a short bar area. This literally might be the best Mexican food I've ever had in my life, and would put it up against any spot in Cali, Texas, etc. They offer authentic Mexican dishes, and 'Americanized' dishes. I've ordered from here so many times, and the food is always consistent and great quality. It's the definition of a hole in the wall, hidden gem. Yes, it's definitely inside of a Texaco gas station, so it's mostly just a pickup place, which could be its only drawback. The food is the main star, though. I've tried their tacos, tamales, tortas, taquitos, burritos, chimichangas, Mexican pizza, queso.. Literally everything is good, it's really what you're in the mood for. And they have the best Al pastor I've ever tried! Plus, the authentic tacos come garnished with grilled onions and limes, it's the real deal. Lastly, they have a homemade hot sauce bar in front of the register, and they're all amazing too, just depends on how much heat you prefer. This taco joint isn't 'behind' a gas station (that was my first assumption when I looked on the map) Nope... Taco Jalisco is actually inside of a gas station. It's a fast casual taco joint that is in the back of a Texaco gas station. And ya know what? This was some damn good Mexican food. This is why I love Yelp. Otherwise, how would I ever have known that some of the best tacos in town can be found inside of a gas station? Anyways, on to the eats. Because I'd been on a taco bender all weekend I decided to switch things up an order a chicken quesadilla. The dilla was stuffed with chicken and cheese and came with sides of pico, guac and sour cream. The chicken was a little different than what I'm used to (less of a grilled chicken and more of a darker meat) but was still flavorful and delicious. The real star of the show was my guy's burrito which was stuffed with meat, refried beans, cheese and veggies. This was easily one of the best burritos that I've had. Although the gas station serves beer you can only drink non-alcoholic drinks in the Taco Jalisco section. I also need to mention that the pricing is absurdly cheap. Burritos are 5-6 bucks and are absolutely massive. Tacos are 2 bucks and from the looks of it are also massive. Two people can feast for 10-15 dollars. Thanks to Yelp for helping me find this serious hidden gem inside of a gas station. This spot is on a main strip with lots of chains and until we opened our app we almost ended up stopping at Publix for a pub sub (which wouldn't have been the worst thing, pub subs are life) But seriously, traveling is all about eating local and trying out cool and unique places. We were on our way home from Naples FL and decided to use Yelp and find the best taco spot we could find and Taco Jalisco was what came up. Taco Jalisco is a restaurant located inside a gas station on US41. You walk up to the Taco Jalisco counter and order your tacos and then go over to the gas station register and pay. We ordered several tacos to split, carnitas, Al pastor, chorizo and birria. The first thing I noticed when our tacos arrived was they look nothing like the pictures on Taco Jalisco's Yelp page, especially the Birria tacos. The second thing was they did not appear to be plated with care or concern for presentation, even for a taco place. And when we were trying them, they were just ok. Taco Jalisco, I'm not sure how you have gotten such a good rating, but what ever you were doing before go back to it, because if the experience we received is how your doing things you will not have a good rating long. read more

I dragged my husband here for lunch because of the reviews. We have a lot of great taquerias back home and I'm glad to say this place didn't disappoint. They are located inside the Texaco. You order at the counter and take a ticket to the Texaco counter to pay. You can get drinks at the gas station, but I wish they had agua fresca. The staff was friendly and helpful. The gentleman at the Texaco was extremely pleasant. There was a short wait, but only because they made everything fresh. I'm really impressed that they make their own tortillas here, especially because they are dealing with the space constraints of being in a gas station! The menu is a mix of traditional taqueria and gas station fare. I do not say this as a bad thing as it appeals to a larger audience. This may be crucial since I didn't see any other taquerias in the immediate area, just gringo tacos. :) Speaking of, they do offer beef, but also all the traditional meats too! My husband got their nachos with cheese dip, which is stadium type cheese, for $4.99. He also got a chicken quesadilla which he enjoyed until he got something crunchy in there. We couldn't figure out what it was. It was a big size for $7.99 though. I went with a taco plate for $7.99. I think that is a little high for only 2 tacos, but the rice and beans made it really filling. The carnitas and pastor were both excellent! No chewy or hard bits, not too fatty, great cook and bursting with flavor- no complaints. I was really pleased with the tacos, and liked the rice and beans too. I thought the churro, which was $1.59, was a little too crispy for my preference. You might want to get the caramel one instead. Overall, this was a solid meal that was well worth the $20. This place gave us a great impression of food in Sarasota and they also have some creative items on their menu as well. I've been hearing about this place for a year. I was down that way in South Sarasota and I thought I'd stop by. I was hoping it would actually be inside an old style Texaco gas station, but it's in the Texaco gas station convenience store. Which is fine.
