Definitely not what I was expecting, I ordered the picoso burrito and a taco plate with a spicy taco and a shrimp taco , the shrimp taco was under done and the spicy chicken taco was not spicy and was a fried chicken strip. Our beans and rice were ice cold , the lettuce on all the tacos were old and partially brown . The only thing that I can say enjoyed was the spicy queso that I they put on the side of my burrito which I can say I appreciate. This place is probably good after hours when your drunk and hungry but definitely not something you wanna just go out and try . Great established taco spot just east of Downtown Dallas, now with many other locations. Solid customizable breakfast tacos ($2-3/taco) and great selection of salsas. We also got the chips and queso, a little pricey but pretty good. Highly recommend for breakfast, lunch on the other hand can be hit-or-miss. read more

Cool interior with the album covers and arty touches. We tried most of the tacos, fish and shrimp were my daughters favorite, spicy and well cooked. I loved the carnitas but my favorite by far was the steak soft taco. I know...basic....but the flavor was immense. Perfect really, from the tortilla to the char on the steak. This is one of the hidden gems of East Dallas. They have all of the standard options you would think of plus, some unique spins on some classics like the Early Bird Enchiladas which is an egg, bacon, potato enchilada smothers in quest sauce. A very, very solid place. Great service. Great food. I had the Great Gordo with bacon & chorizo and it was stupendous. The 3 salsa selections were great. I enjoyed the not-so-tangy tomatillo salsa (and I'm not typically a tomatillo loving person) the most followed by the jalapeño ranch and finally the red salsa. When I'm back in the area I'll definitely make the effort to go back. A way they could go from 4 to 5 stars for me personally was to add a little more pizzaz and flavor in the burrito itself. Can't put my finger on what exactly that extra thing is but it's one of those flavors or textures that when it's there you know it. And honestly, if I could give a 4.5 star selection I would. My colleague and I ordered right away as we had to get back to our clinic. We ordered our food to go. As I waited for my clyde tacos I was admiring the salsa bar. I wish their containers for salsa were a bit bigger because if I had gotten chips, theres no way I'd be able to dip my chip in those teeny containers! I order 3 clyde tacos one steak and 2 chicken. After living around Texas and becoming a true connoisseur for the spicy cheese dip after 5 years in San Antonio, I consider myself fairly knowledgeable in the queso department. Taco Joint queso is always perfect. Just a little bit a spice, not too chunky, and of course, super cheesy. Tons of chips is also awesome, so you can perfect the ratio. The burritos are huge and tasty. So many taco options are good, but only a couple of vegetarian options. And the hot sauce bar is lots of fun, although I don't really like any of them. This place gets packed at lunch and parking suuuucks, so plan accordingly. But definitely check it out! read more

After months of starting out nearly every Saturday with breakfast at Taco Joint, I finally got a chance to try lunch. And I must've done something right in a previous life to score having lunch on Brisket Taco Tuesday. We started with The Disaster, a mind numbing mix of queso, ground beef, guacamole and pico de gallo. I'm a huge fan of TJ's regular queso, but The Disaster makes the regular queso look like an underachieving younger brother. I'm also completely in love with TJ's chips. They're thin, crunchy, and perfectly salted. And they're not at all greasy. Yum. On to my tacos. I ordered a brisket taco, a crunchy beef taco and a beef fajita soft taco. What? I was hawngry, yo. I started with the brisket taco and truly thought I would only take a bite or two before trying my other tacos. One bite and I seriously had to take a moment of silence to enjoy what was going on in my mouth. These bad boys are greasy, but only in the best possible way. The grease adds another layer of flavor and I started dipping my taco in it so I would be sure to catch every drop. It was served in 2 corn tortillas with nothing else, just meat and meat holder. Leigh P. added avocado to hers and I so wish I'd thought to do that. As it was, I was perfectly happy with jalapeño ranch and tomatillo sauce, which I pretty much put on everything. Once I devoured the brisket taco (seriously, the best I've ever had) I moved on to my other 2 tacos. I almost wish I'd eaten those first because they paled in comparison to the brisket taco. Which is not to say that they weren't fabulous. The crunchy beef taco was in a freshly made shell - the best - and had the perfect salad to meat ratio. The beef fajita taco was stuffed to the gills on a warm and fresh tortilla and was also very tasty. Taco Joint continues to blow me away. The absolute freshness of their ingredients, the fact that I've eaten my way through more than half of their menu and have yet to find something I wasn't completely in love with, and the genuine friendliness of the entire staff are all the reasons that I continue to pick Taco Joint over the numerous other places I could go to. I can't stress enough that if you haven't been to Taco Joint, you have to go. Now. Yes, it's downtown. And yes, they're only open for breakfast and lunch. I have crossed over to the dark side... I mean taco side... I mean brisket side. I mean I was always on the brisket side, especially at Mia's. But now I have found brisket tacos BETTER than Mia's. *Ducks to miss tomatoes flying from the hands of fellow Mia's lovers.* It's true. I didn't think it was possible, but folks... it is. I met my crew here on Brisket Taco Tuesday. (They only serve these bad boys on Tues.) I was surprised at how clean and open the space was. I wasn't expecting a shack or anything, but damn it was shiny in there! There was a small line at 11:30am, but not too crazy. Five minutes later though it was PACKED! Tables filled up and the line went out the door. Everything on the menu looked very tempting. The vegetarian tacos sounded amazing: The Sophie ($2.59-special veggie mix of carrots, potatoes, zucchini, red and yellow bell peppers, mushrooms, and onions sauteed in vegetable oil and topped with jack cheese and wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla) & the The Evan ($2.59-A wheat tortilla filled with black beans, rice, guacamole, tomatoes, salad mix, and Monterrey jack cheese). BUT I HAD to do the brisket. I started out with a couple tastes of the Disaster which is a their "special blend of queso mixed with seasoned ground sirloin, guacamole, and pico de gallo." It was pretty damn good. My order came out super swiftly though so I didn't have much time to eat the queso mix... which was probably a good thing. I did have enough time to fill my fountain drink with Diet Dr. Pepper and get a few cups of the tomatillo, jalapeno ranch and salsa. (By the way, all three were sauces were great but the jalapeno ranch went perfectly with the brisket.) On to the tacos. Sweet Jesus (pronounced "Haysooce") these babies were tasty. The meat was tender and broke off into my mouth while the juice dripped down my chin. That's some good shiz right there! I only made it through one of them at the restaurant... and only made it 5 minutes at home before cramming the other in my mouth. It was just so juicy and sweet. Plus they double up on the corn tortilla so it makes it easier to eat. On top of the drool-inducing food, the employees were incredibly nice. I believe the two young owners were there and they remembered every customer's name. On the way out, one of the cuties asked me: "Hey Melody, was everything alright?" Oh no.
