My go-to place to eat in Auburn. Toppings are always fresh and chips are always crispy. Staff is nice and professional. Seating is limited sometimes, but usually free up regularly. The refried beans are seasoned perfectly, and the slaw is vinegar based- not mayonnaise based. Seasonal drinks are always worth a try even though the regular drink menu is good too. The queso is alright, and the salsa is a little too pureed for my taste. As someone who loves Durangos tacos down the road, I am very let down that they have no fajitas, or al pastor. Instead they have bland chicken and steak. Again, I'll comment on the blandness and lack of texture in their tacos. My "cheezy beef" tacos barely had any meat. Also, there's a lot of cold & wet ingredients on this type of taco, so it was basically like eating a cold/wet salad in a taco. This is a great taco/burrito spot! The owner came up to me and asked what I thought and how I heard about it. I discovered it by walking by and went in because on a busy Auburn Saturday the line was shorter then other places on the street, and it looked like they were efficiently getting people in/out. This is the only restaurant I have ever been in that asked me to give up my seat because other people, who were yet to materialize, may need a place to sit. One of our party was in line ordering food and the rest of us sat down to wait. Robert (e.g. see napoleonic complex) came up and told us we would be required to move if enough tables weren't available since we didn't have our wooden triangle yet. I counted 3+/- empties inside and almost all the outside table were empty. A quick examination of other tables showed that some of the patrons were clearly finished and and just sitting and talking. We've been to this location 4 times and the ordering process is out of control. Not sure why they can not sped up by opening two cashiers. I visited taco mama this past Saturday around noon based on Yelp reviews and recommendations. Metered parking is free on the weekends, which is great. The line was relatively long when I arrived, however a previous reviewers noted the line moved pretty quickly. Plus a staff member handed out menus, to help customers decide before time to order. Nice touch, especially for a newbie! The staff is friendly and the customer service is top notch. Now, for the food. I had the Build Your Own two tacos with chips & salsa and a side. I selected chicken and pork tacos and the Mexican mac & cheese as the side. The unlimited toppings are awesome! The chicken was a little dry and I didn't detect any seasoning when I tried the poultry alone. However the salsa and toppings were good with the taco overall. The pork was yummy and spot on. The mac and cheese was dry. I prefer creamy mac & cheese. The addition of diced chilies (mild or medium-spicy) and tomatoes would give the mac and cheese more of a Mexican flair. The chips are crisp and fresh and very tasty. A seasoning spice would add a nice touch to the the chips, but they were good as is. I didn't notice if differ spice levels of salsa were available, tho there was was hot sauce and siracha on the tables. Next time, I plan to try a margarita and linger a bit. read more
