This is my tied with a place in West Town called "La Taqueria Traspasada II" for my favorite tacos in the entire state of IL (and that includes all the hot spots in Chicago). It is super impressive that a place in Niles is taking the cake here, and I'm a HUGE foodie who is constantly in search of the hottest spots downtown. There are a few reasons why this place is so darn special: 1. Attention to Detail. They ask you "Mexican or American" style for toppings which is a BIG deal. They also ask "corn or flour" for tortillas which is an even bigger deal. The ability to customize your taco is key. They also give you assorted blue and white corn tortillas lightly dusted with paprika. It's the small things like this that make a large impression on me. 2. Quality Ingredients. Never had a taco that didn't taste fresh, well seasoned, and authentic. I get the impression that this place is owned by an Indian family, regardless they must know Mexican cuisine intimately because that is reflected in their menu. 3. Salsa Bar. They have this glorious section with different house made salsas and it makes me very very happy. They have cups with lids for takeout and NO limit on how many salsas you can take. :) My family is known for going overboard on these delectable salsas and you can't blame us. They offer house made pickled jalapeño, carrot and onion garnishes, creamy jalapeño salsa and salsa verde to name a few. 4. Affordability. This isn't a pretentious, hipster-run, Big Star type establishment - they cut to the chase and it won't break the bank. Tacos run for 2-3 a piece and my boyfriend and I had an outstanding meal with beers for under $30. Okay, so I'm done gushing about my long standing, little secret, favorite taco shop in the burbs. They're slow to take orders in the restaurant. They're slow to make the food, whether you've placed the order online or waited forever in line at the restaurant. But the tacos are so, so good that I still give 5 stars to this place. I can't eat more than 3 tacos and that has always put me in a bind. The Paneer taco is incredible and I don't know anywhere else that makes it, so that leaves the struggle to choose only 2 more: mahi mahi, steak, shrimp, carnitas? They can be prepared with cheese, lettuce, tomatos, but are much better ordered with cilantro, lime and chopped onions. read more

We love it!! This place is what I've been looking for!! I've been craving a good burrito and horchata for awhile now and recently while in the area, we decided to give it a try! The Jr. steak burrito was the perfect portion size, the meat was a bit chewy BUT luckily their mahi mahi taco was DELICIOUSLY PERFECT! Their horchata is also perfection! I visited this place with my family due to the great reviews. I ordered a fajita that cost me $12 but sadly it was the hardest meat I ever tried . they have a very nice presentation of the plates also the decoration is very good in the restaurant probably that's the reason the prices are a little bit higher than average. Any time I visit family in Illinois, I try my best to come to Taco Maya. Pre-Covid and when I lived in the state, my friends and I would come here after evening prayers. We LOVED the salsa bar and could not get enough of the pickled jalapeños and carrots. The avocado and jalapeño salsa are my faves. With Covid still around and my very limited visits back home, each time I've been here I've ordered online for pick up. My most recent order included shrimp taco (my absolute favorite), chicken taco Mexican style, and dorado taco. I also received a side of rice and beans with my order. The shrimp taco always hits the spot and has all the right ingredients to make it delicious and savory. The dorado was my second favorite. It was light (in a good way) and the fish was crispy. I added grilled bell peppers to the chicken taco which added a nice touch. Everything tasted great and I look forward to having it again when I'm back in town! read more

The flavor of the burrito and the carnitas taco were great. I ordered the kids meal without cheese, but the refried beans had melted cheese on top. The food is packaged in recycleable brown cartons which is great, but with it being so cold today, some of the food arrived cold, which is the nature of delivery during winter! Overall for the price, I will be trying other taco places in the area, before ordering from here again. But the kids meal is a great deal. read more

I used to love this place, the service was always good and friendly. We came here tonight and it was one of the worst experience ever. Started out with the chips that was hard and old, they switched it with a fresh one when we complained about it. Next came our dinner and i was surprised to see a different taco for me, so we called the guy in charge at the cashier and he explained to us that we ordered the special taco instead of the signature taco. Which is fine but he had such an attitude as he explained our mistake to us, like he was ready to fight us. Like dude chill, it's ok. The worst part of the meal was finding a toothpick in one of the tacos!!! I can't imagine how it got there, someone cooking with toothpick in their mouth and dropped it there??? I am sooo scared coz my boyfriend was halfway done with the taco when he found the toothpick. They reimbursed us for our dinner and gave my boyfriend free three tacos too. I did not even finish my dinner, it just totally put me off. I miss the old crew that used to run this place. More friendlier and accommodating. Maybe if that cashier was a little bit nicer when we made the mistake of ordering the wrong taco, maybe i would be much kinder and not post this. Then again, the thought of toothpick in your food! Taco Maya has varieties of tacos, my favorite is the Paneer and Mahi Mahi tacos! Their battered Mahi Mahi taco is super crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. They are an Indian-Mexican twist of taco and I absolutely love it there. The only thing that it didn't get 5 was the wait time, it gets super busy and one time I waited nearly 45 mins to get an order, but it was worth it! It definitely helped me enjoy my food more. Ordered shrimp tacos. For a suburban taco joint, this place doesn't mess around! Everything is really flavorful, cooked perfectly, and plated beautifully. I truly enjoyed every bite I took. Even when I was full I had a hard time putting my fork down. The only reason they lost a star is because of the over the top, sugary, and slow to arrive margarita. Majority of the time I like pairing my food with a drink to enhance my experience. This one was detrimental to my enjoyment. Couldn't even get through a quarter of it. An employee asked me if everything was OK. But after I told him how terrible the drink is, he apologized a few times but made no attempt to fix it. We just ordered from here for the first time using door dash. All of the food arrived correct, even with a few special requests. We orders steak tacos, chicken fajitas and chicken quesadilla- no complaints at all. We did have to warm it up, but the driver did not have it in an insulated bag when he came to the door but the restaurant cannot control that. "Want to go to the taco place I saw in a strip mall?" - Husband Me: "No." This was the conversation for months. I finally relented and GOOD GOD am I happy to have given in to the Maya. This is hands down the best taco place in the North suburbs I've found and I LOVE tacos. 1. Carne asada - Get it Mexican style (duh) with onions and cilantro. I think the best part of the carne asada is that I've eaten at least 20 of these tacos and I've never once had a gristly piece of meat. They're so flavorful! Best paired with a hit of the smoky red salsa. 2. Burrito - Dope. 3. Fish taco - Fried and best paired with the green salsa. 4. THE BEST GUAC I'VE EVER EATEN. Not kidding. It's kinda chunky, has lots of tomato and cilantro and it's served with their freshly fried tortilla chips. 5. They have a salsa bar! I'm so in love with it. This place here did it for me and if I could I would give these clowns ZERO stars. So I placed a delivery order of almost $40.00 and at no point was I told or informed of how long the delivery would take until after I ordered the food. After realizing that it was going to take almost 2 HRS for a my food to be delivered I immediately (30-60 seconds after placing the order) called them (Taco Madre) to cancel my order. Mind you I ordered and payed through ChowNow. Time of placing the order was approximately 5:00 PM. So...the first time I called I spoke with an unknown male and he placed me on hold, shortly there after they hung up on me. At first I didn't think anything of it as it's a Saturday night and I know they're busy. I immediately called back and an unknown female answered the phone, I explained to her that I wanted to cancel my order. This unknown female said hat she would have to speak to her manager and placed me on hold...few seconds later I realized that she had hung up on me. I immediately called back (3rd time) and this unknown female answered again and I told her that I didn't appreciate being hung up and she said that she was trying to get a hold of her manager, who according to her was on not in duty this evening and she placed me on hold yet again. Approximately 2-3 minutes later the same unknown male that I spoke with earlier picked up the phone and said that they couldn't cancel my order. Furthermore, he said that he could have my food delivered in 20 minutes, I again told him that I just wanted to cancel my order. Current time at this point was 5:40 PM and his unknown male said that his delivery guy was on his way to deliver my food. I again told this unknown male that I did not want the food anymore and to just cancel but before I finished my sentence he hung the phone up. So now I was placed in a position of what should I do...do I leave the establishment that I was at or wait for the delivery guy to show up and just cancel my order for the 5th time with him. Well I decided to wait and gave them the benefit of doubt. I wanted to be reassured that they were going actually cancel my order and refund my money. Well 40 minutes later (6:20) I called again to check the status of this deli every guy and was told that they were still going to be "delivering" me the food and I was told that the delivery guy had already left. I immediately told the unknown male that I did not want the food and just wanted this order to be canceled. Yet again I was told by both the unknown male and female that they could not cancel it because they didn't know how. They basically told me that I was SOL. Needless to say I didn't stick around to find out if this delivery guy actually showed up or not. Beware of this place...this was my first and LAST experience with this establishment. I will be referring all of my family as friends to a better establishment. **update** almost 40 minutes after the fact (7ish) I received an email stating that my order was canceled. This seems like way too much work on my end to have my order canceled. Never again! read more

I ordered mahi tacos and shrimp tacos and oh my were they delicious I didn't think it would be as good as they were but this is my new place to go for Mexican food not only that I ordered guacamole and the guacamole was so fresh and it wasn't salty which was amazing because every time I order guacamole there's always so much salt !!! The chips I can with the guacamole were so fresh and crunchy. I had a great experience. The only thing I would have to say is that it took a whole hour for them to deliver the food but other than that everything was good Update :: Their food is always delicious. Today we waited 1 hour and 24 min for our food to get delivered.
