I really wanted to like this place, but overall I left disappointed. I ordered five steak tacos with sour cream and cheese (about $6.50 each). It took 15-20 minutes for my food to come out, which felt long considering there was only one order ahead of me. The staff did apologize for the delay, which I appreciated. When I got to my car, I checked the bag and realized every taco was missing the sour cream and cheese. I had to walk back in to get it fixed. They corrected it quickly, but it added to the impression that things aren't running smoothly. The tacos themselves were just okay. I can't justify the price point for mediocre food. This was my second visit -- the burrito I tried last time was good and felt worth the money, but the tacos didn't deliver the same experience. For about $20 more, you could go to Javier's in Newport Beach and actually enjoy a quality meal. Unfortunately, I probably won't be coming back. read more

Came here for the first time with my kids because my kids heard it was good. Food and drinks are good, but it seemed over priced for the portion size they are serving. Spent $53 dollars for 2 small tacos, a breakfast burrito, and 3 drinks. Just doesn't seem like good value. Menu is a bit limited. Most disappointing, they didn't accept our coupons and said they are not set up yet for the coupons. Umm I think it's been at least a month since they opened so you would think they'd have that set up at opening to get customers in. Ambience was clean and airy. Seemed a bit dead though when we went for Sunday lunch. Not sure if we'll keep coming back which is a shame because we need good local eats here we enjoy using on a regular basis. At first glance the restaurant appeared promising. It looked clean and had a simple menu. Unfortunately, the menu was inaccurate, the food was below average and the servers and cook did not get along with one another. Right before we left the chef became visibly upset and hit a bell over and over and over approximately 20 times in rapid succession. It was ridiculous and not warranted. He needs to go find another occupation. Food: We ordered a steak burrito, steak nachos, steak quesadilla and chicken tenders. The steak was over seasoned and extremely chewy. The beans were watery and overwhelmed the burrito. The nachos were literally drowned in lettuce. I have never heard or seen nachos buried under lettuce. Ambience: Clean but weird. The menu was inaccurate and misleading. The menu should reflect the ingredients. Cleanliness: The bathrooms were dirty, entirely pink from floor ceiling and had a disgusting soap dispenser that did not work. Massive fail from a hygiene perspective. Was wanting to place an order via toast, had a question about the food and waited on hold for close to 10 minutes. No one ever picked up. Drove to the restaurant and waited in a line that was 15 deep. Only one employee taking orders. Where is management? Not a good look and makes you think twice about ordering here. During a lunch rush it should be all hands on deck. Whomever owns this franchise needs to be present on the weekends as you have one chance to impress and so many reasons like above to disappoint. A lot of options out there so you need to separate yourself. Do better. Still waiting on my carry out. Update: got food poisoning from the food. Was up all night with issues. I'm not sure where those who rated 4 or 5 stars were eating but I can't believe it was this place. We ordered 5 tacos at $5-$6 per taco and guac and salsa to go. The food was bland with very little flavor - and that was with 4 different types of Tacos (chicken and steak). It has a limited menu and although starving, we didn't finish the tacos. We definitely will find someplace else, or will make the drive to QueVida in YL next time. read more

New Taco Mesa? Yes! Hmm, this doesn't look like any Taco Mesa I've ever seen. The menu's different. The decor is very different. I don't know why they feel the need to keep reinventing themselves, they always had a good thing going. No lobster on the menu? That sucks. Well, they still have shrimp. I got the Mexico City enchilada with shrimp. Ordered from an overly enthusiastic young man who said "Awesome" after everything I said. It was like ordering food from a Lego Movie character. Food was okay. I wouldn't get that enchilada again but I'd come back and get something else. read more

Food was decent but what is going to kill this place if they don't get a handle on it soon is their horrible service. The short guy with a ton of rings on is extremely rude, he was impatient and condescending as I tried to navigate the menu, he acted like I was bothering him. I passed by today on the way to coffee and the owner did seem nice, he was outside talking to customers so for his sake I hope he gets rid of or at the minimum gives that guy a talking to. I won't be back, but I hope they prosper, good customer service goes a long way. read more

The Carne Asada steak plate is really good and comes with tortillas, rice, beans, avocado and a stuffed fried Jalapeño on the side. We have gone to the other Taco Mesa. Loved them. Tried Anaheim Hills. We were disappointed. I ended up throwing most of the food in the trash. I brought some meat home for my dog. Maybe the chef needs some training. I purchased steak fajitas. I asked for rare and received well meat. The sauce was terrible on the steak. The tortillas were delicious. I liked the sauce bar. Been coming here since they opened. The first few times were great, but in the last month it has gone downhill. Not sure if they changed owners or not? They are always out of salsa, no water and if they do have it, its hot with no ice. Silverwear is always out, Meat has been terrible with much smaller portions than originally, very bad salads and tacos. read more
