I've lived in Mission Viejo for over 20 years and I can't believe I've never been here before! A search for "Taco Tuesday" on Yelp led me straight to here. They're located in the Los Alisos shopping plaza on the corner of Trabuco and Los Alisos Blvd., near Auto Zone. Plenty of parking is available in the shared lot. I called in my order to go, and it was ready within 10 min. Upon arrival, I was surprised how large it was inside. There were lots of tables inside and quite a few outside as well. The employee on the phone and the one who gave me my order were both very friendly. I ordered 2 crispy beef tacos and 1 crispy chicken taco for myself, 3 soft shell carnitas tacos for the hubby, and guacamole & chips to share. The Taco Tuesday special is $2.50 per taco and there are 7 options to choose from. You can also add rice & beans for $2.50. The chips & guac are $8. They also offer margaritas for $5 or 2 margaritas to go for $14! The crispy tacos were definitely crispy and amazingly non-greasy. I preferred the chicken to the shredded beef, but they were both good. I was full after 2 tacos so hubby ate my last one. The chips and guac are amazing! The chips have a little seasoning on it - I think it's paprika. The guacamole is absolutely delicious! They give a generous portion of both. I will definitely return in the near future! read more

I'll admit, I was a little reluctant to check out a taco spot in this part of Orange County, I just thought It would be really Americanized and not good. I'm glad I was wrong because this place was pretty good. We came here on election night right before the crowds for dinner. Came here mainly because we saw taco Tuesday specials on yelp and thought we should give it a try instead of driving too far away. For $2.75 I got three tacos, the crispy chicken, Al pastor, and the fried fish. All were pretty decent. I like the green tortilla they put it on. The meat was pretty good. They had 3 choices of salsas, one green, one orange and an Arbol chile one. The salsa had really great flavor, but the only negative to say was they were not spicy. The orange one is a habanero and typically these are much spicier. They also do $5 margarita specials so that was pretty nice read more

Notified the staff and they looked pretty annoyed especially the cook. Had me waiting another ten minutes for one taco. Literally around the corner from my house so I come here pretty often. I usually get a couple of tacos as they're pretty filing. Go with the Best in the West variety and you won't be disappointed. As others have mentioned they are not cheap but I've always been happy with the quality. Love the carnitas as well. I have been disappointed in the size and price of the taquitos as well as steak and bean burro. Both are very good but too little for too much. Their steak is excellent! Try it on their nachos!! Sooo good. Large enough to split and one of the best in town. The beans and rice cost extra but I really don't like them. The beans tend to be on the hard side and the rice is the pea and carrot variety which I don't enjoy so an easy pass. Restaurant is very clean and friendly staff. Love the orange salsa (hot) and picked veg options. Usually plenty of parking but I generally come at lunch vs dinner. There's also a 31 flavors right next door which can come in handy! read more

My partner and I get take out from Taco Mesa about once a week and it never disappoints! We love their seasoned chips and amazing salsas. I love the best of the west blackened chicken tacos, Oaxaqueñas enchiladas and chicken enchiladas. The Oaxaqueñas are super cheesy and delicious, more so than other cheese enchiladas! My partner loves the blackened chicken nachos, and even though he doesn't love raw onions, it's easy to get the nachos with no pico. They are great with adjustments like that! I am gluten intolerant and love getting the chicken quesadilla on a corn tortilla- made in house. We love the staff, they are always friendly and efficient and know us by name at this point! We had a family party with 10+ people and decided to online order & pick up in the restaurant. With that many dishes, not even including the salsa, guac, chips etc. I am always worried that we will be missing something. However, that was not the case. The manager triple checked everything before we arrived and ensured that EVERYTHING was in there. Needless to say, everything was packaged and everyone loved their meals. I got the lobster enchiladas and they were so beyond good. There were large pieces of lobster throughout both enchiladas- and it was beyond tasty. 10/10!!! read more

I've gotten tacos here in the past but never delved deeper into the menu. Luckily I did this time! I ordered chile rellenos, pozole, and rice and beans. I was helped by Marco who was extremely kind and helpful. I'd never had pozole and it was incredible. I'll be back just try other soups! Searching for a Mexican restaurant with more healthy options and Taco Mesa delivered. There were so many great options here. The lobster burrito came with veggies and a salad instead of the typical beans and rice and I was very impressed. The flavor was better than it sounded and the lobster meat was actually very well proportioned to the burrito. I liked that the burrito didn't come with rice. I was pleasantly surprised. The carne asada burrito was just as big and came as advertised. My kid got the cheese quesadilla with tots and that was equally delicious. The real winner here was the chips and guacamole. It was seasoned beautifully and nice and creamy. The chips were cooked perfectly! The salsa bar actually has amazing salsas. I got the green salsa (medium) and it actually had great flavor with a little kick. The others looked great too. You could taste the homemade quality of ingredients. We ordered the horchata and it was one of the best we have ever had!! We had to try the flan and it was the perfect size to fill out sweet tooth. We have been going here for years and food was always delicious! Tonight my Mom ordered the nachos with beef! The Carne Asada was so tough you couldn't even chew it!! It's fine. If you're looking for a fast easy and palatable gringo centered experience, this is the spot. Came here for taco Tuesday only to find half filled tortillas when I ordered tacos; carnitas, chile verde and al pastor. The chile verde was top notch. Great flavor and spice. Too bad the portion was so small. My kids had kids quesadillas and bean and cheese burritos but could not eat the rice. It was lacking in flavor and color. The pinto beans were alright. But a Mexican place should always try to get their rice and beans right since it's what most customers will eat. read more

Visited this place earlier this week with friends for lunch. The place has really awesome Mexican food and the menu is elaborate. We ordered Chips and guac, veggie quesadilla, veggie bowl, and jalapeno poppers. All the food was very delicious. They have a salsa bar to choose salsa based on your spice appetite. Fabulous service with friendly and professional staff--amazing tacos (slightly high in salt) especially the salmon taco (wow), and Alambre taco. I usually go to the Ladera location so this was my first time giving this one a try. Is establishment was very clean, and I'm so glad I got to try the salmon taco for the first time. The papaya relish on the top made for an explosion of flavors and the texture was perfect. I love their homemade tortillas, and they have an extensive salsa bar. Personally I feel the salsa bar is completely superfluous for their tacos because the tacos are Providing an incredible amount of flavor on their own. So if you do try the tacos, make sure that you try some bites without any additional toppings first! Very creative and flavorful food here. read more

I called to place an order and I called right back to cancel it. I've eaten here more than 30 times. If you order 3 blackened chicken tacos here now, it will cost you $20! A chicken burrito is now $16. They have increased their prices so much that it doesn't even make sense. I understand that rent and costs go up, but that truly feels like gouging. Having grown up in this county, I was surprised I hadn't visited Taco Mesa yet. Upon reading its Google description that it specializes in healthy and diet-conscious Mexican food, I admit my expectations were lowered, expecting fresher yet less flavorful food. The Taco Mesa owners must have expected this, leading to their tagline of "HEALTHY AND AUTHENTIC". After my 1 experience here, I do feel this tagline is pretty accurate. The space is really welcoming and nicely decorated. The inside was closed off to seating due to COVID but clean seats and tables were available outside. There is a lot of room to social distance inside, but only 1 cashier so maybe lunch rushes can get crowded. They offer the classics (tacos, burritos, nachos, quesadillas, tortas, salads, soups, tamales, chips and guac, chips and salsa) with a more expansive protein selection than other Mexican/Baja places I've been to. The meats included grilled or fried fish, lobster, salmon, or shrimp; and pork, beef, and chicken options; and vegetarian options. They also do their own unique horchata with Tiger nut and agave, so one can feel a little healthier drinking this sugary refresher. They even make their own green tortillas that have a great texture, consistency, and flavor. We ordered a dozen to take home ($3.75) as we enjoyed it. I got the baja style grilled fish taco which had a very well seasoned and flaky white fish served on their house-made green tortilla, with cabbage, sauce, and pico. With their house spicy sauce, it was great. Very filling for 1 taco. The spicy sauce was creamier than other Mexican taco joints, perhaps mixed with sour cream, and had a good spice, but is not super spicy. Fiance had the blackened chicken burrito. It came out a medium sized burrito (not gigante like you can get at Chipotle but a good size) with a few fresh leaves of salad. Everything looked fresh. He was satisfied, which is positive because he can be very critical of these "new age-y" taco places. The price is higher than a hole-in-the-wall or greasy-spoon taco joint, but matches the higher quality and freshness of the food. They do have $2 Taco Tuesday that sounds great to try out. read more

From lobster enchiladas to shrimp fajitas then onto my obsession with their wild salmon tacos with papaya sauce and papaya salsa atop a blue corn tortilla.. the medley of flavors and spices work together so well. I've enjoyed every entree I ordered so far. And don't get me started on the flan. THE FLAN is EVERYTHING. All of their ingredients are consistently fresh, clean, and flavored to perfection. But I leave for your consideration the $9 taquitos, when ordered kid-style with no toppings (guacamole, sour cream, etc). No discount given for removal of those toppings. RIP OFF. My husband, picking up our order to-go, even looked at it and questioned, and the workers said yes, that was a Taquitos order. Also tried the jalapeño poppers for fun, and the breading was not great. Have been coming here for years and probably will keep coming.... But stick with tacos and burritos. read more
