Quick review here! We came here randomly for taco tuesday deals at $2.75 per taco. Great deal considering the size of these tortillas. The pescado frito taco was crispy, and the beer batter for the fish is legitimate. The flavor was there and all! The pasto taco was alright, I would've liked some fresh pineapple to top it off, but that's just my spoiled personal preference. Haha and lastly, I got two of the chile verde tacos which was a great decision because these were the best out of the four. I remember getting introduced by a colleague to the original Costa Mesa location and ordering a shrimp taquito that I've never found anywhere else and the best shrimp taco called new wave (blackened). Fast forward to today, our go-to location is in Orange. Parking could sometimes be an issue, as it is located in the same plaza as In-n-Out and 85 Degrees. This location is definitely more spacious, more modern, has better ventilation with high industrial ceilings and plenty of seating with regular and bar tables. They always have daily specials that are to-die-for. I had a scrumptious shrimp dish over mexican rice, over a year ago. IMO, they do a really great job with seafood and I think no matter which day you go, you're bound to find and enjoy whatever specials they have for the day. From the regular menu, you can't go wrong with their tacos or burritos. They renamed the New Wave Taco. It is now The Best of the West Taco, which is blackened. I ordered (1) shrimp and (1) calamari tacos with cotija cheese, crema, red cabbage and chipotle sauce, so yummy! The calamari was outstanding, so tender! I have been 3 times this summer and it seems their tortillas are either green or blue for all tacos, this really sets this place apart because the flavor is kicked up a notch, on just the tortillas alone! Tacos are a good size, with lots of flavor and really doesn't need more salsa (but totally up to you and your heat preference!) They even have a lobster taco! I tend to stick with fish or potato, but their selection is excellent. I enjoy the barbacoa tacos, and I ask for them on flour tortillas as I have an allergy to corn. My husband likes to order the potato taco and the shredded beef hard shell taco. They have special pricing between $2-$3.50 and deals on other items on the menu. The horchata here is made fresh with tiger nut milk, and it's delicious. The service here is good despite them being very busy. They take time to answer any questions and make sure you receive your order. There is a salsa bar available, and all of the salsa options are robust in flavor. The restaurant is well kept. When it is busy, it can get a little loud. I was pretty freaked out and was going to take it back, my buddy try another bite and see. I've been to Taco Mesa several times over the years but to me it's hit and miss. Most recently...It was the same. In a hurry to catch a movie at Triangle Square, so I tried to call in a pre-order. They answered quickly but after being told to hold they forgot about me and I dropped off after 10minutes. Ordered their chips (VG - lime and spicy), Alambre taco (Ex)- steak + bacon), Carnitas taco (poor - huge chunk of dry unbroken meat) and Carnitas burrito (ok). Luckily service was good and food wait reasonable. We made movie on time! One tip is that there is some extra seating in the back of the crowded parking lot. I've been having Taco Tuesday here for almost 2 years now and I still get excited for it every time! My favorite Taco Tuesday tacos are the pastor, crispy chicken, crispy beef, and fried fish. Those 4 are must-gets. I love how thick and crispy the crispy beef/chicken is and their fried fish taco is huge. I also really like their calamari taco - it is not on their Taco Tuesday menu, but it's totally worth paying full price for. Other favorite things include their blackened calamari burrito and lobster burrito. I love that you get order them dry or wet (sauce poured over top). Their horchata I also love - it's a little too sweet for me, but I add a little water to it and it's perfect. Don't leave without getting that green sauce in the self-serve sauce area! We usually eat a lot and order a lot when we're here, but I feel good supporting them and eating their food especially when they try to use, "...wild caught and responsible seafood guided by Seafood Watch, greens from local sustainable, organic and regenerative farms and humanely raised meats."
