This was my first time eating here and really enjoyed it. There are several great things on the menu, so it was hard to decide what to get. Since I love nachos, that is what I ended up trying. I have only been here once but it was so very good. I am one of those irritating Austin vegan-types and I was dreading spending 2 weeks in Frisco because the vegan options for eating seem slim. Taco Ocho has 5 different vegan tacos plus a vegan "quesadilla". I have tried the sweet potato quesadilla - DELICIOUS. I tried the Pura Vida taco and the Madre Tierra taco and both were DELICIOUS. I think I am going to put the tacos through a best taste bracket. Pura Vida won that round (but just because I was excited about having plantains in a taco). It was fast. It was cheap. I was looking for a place to grab some food Sunday evening and after strolling through Yelp I decided to give Taco Ocho a shot. I ordered the Fish Tacos, Picadillo Taco and the Smoked Chicken Elote Taco. The Picadillo and Smoked Chicken tacos were ok and I didn't feel they were anything special BUT the fish tacos were amazing!!! I would come back just for those over and over again! We also had the Monterey Chicken and Mixteca tortas and they were also delicious, especially the Monterey Chicken torta which comes with a nice Jalapeño Aoli sauce. They both came with fresh chips which were good and the sauce they have was good as well and not spicy at all. Unfortunately there is no options for different salsas and they do not have or know what Hot Carrots (Pickled Carrots and Onions) are which are a staple at Mexican Taco shops and restaurants. I am really happy to have found this place. I've tried the locations in Frisco and Richardson. Both have a friendly staff and they are very accommodating. Th restaurants have a cool vibe to them that I like a lot! We are vegan and there are many delicious vegan options on the menu! It is one of the few places I feel is truly vegan as they do not have meat broth in their food and they leave out unnecessary oils. I love the Ranchero taco and Rico Ocho taco. I was also able to venture to the non-vegan menu and get a vegan chalupa. They can pretty much make anything on the menu vegan. They were able to accommodate my grandson's as well. They are not vegan and they wanted bacon, egg and cheese burritos. They were very happy with their selection. They also have fun drinks that are made without corn syrup and artificial flavors and colors. I love the pineapple cream soda. Normally I do not drink soda of any kind but I had to try this one. They plan to build one in McKinney. I hope so. McKinney does not have a single vegan restaurant that I know of. read more

I enjoyed the taco plate I had. For $8.99 you get two tacos, rice, beans, chips, and salsa. The rice was really good but I found the black beans to be bland, they needed salt or something. You get a smallish serving of chips and salsa but that was cool with me. I didn't even finish them. For the tacos I picked the grilled shrimp and grilled fish ($0.50 up charge). I love Taco Ocho. It's nice to go to a restaurant and have some good vegan options. I really appreciate how everything is clearly labeled and the staff has always been so friendly. The tacos are really tasty and I've tried almost all the different vegan options. I also like that they have alcohol here! I should not have waited this long to stop here again. By noon on a Thursday, the place is just about full. I observe employees coming from JCPenney and other large companies that require them to have their ID badges clipped to their clothing. Why is this important? Well JCPenney is a few miles away and across a major highway (121). Most restaurant experts will tell you that people do not go that far for lunch and rarely will cross a major highway intersection. They are making an extra effort to come here. Families, tennis players from the nearby Tennis Center and others fill the room. Conversation includes the phrase "what did you get?" as patrons explore this unique Latin menu. Everyone seems very happy and enjoying the food and the service. I highly recommend Taco Ocho. None of these are bad things per se, it's just not a recipe for much to talk about it. That said, the big area for differentiation in my mind is the number of vegetarian options on offer at Taco Ocho, which is not something often seen when it comes to fast casual Latin cuisine or at your local taqueria. Having tried most of the vegetarian offerings I have no complaints an laud the fact that they have offerings that extend beyond the ubiquitous beans, cheese, rice and/or tortilla combinations found elsewhere. That said, there are still plenty of options for the carnivores in the group, I am just unable to speak to that side of the menu from my trips here thus far. My two tacos were the ranchero taco with Black beans, roasted potatoes, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, elote, tortilla strips in a ranchero jalapeño sauce, and on a flour tortilla. I loved the ranchero jalapeño sauce in the taco and the potatoes. Its a corn tortilla with shredded beef, black beans, fried plantains, cheese, and salsa. Its a blend of savory and sweet which makes a perfect combination. In conclusion, this place is great. Their fried cabo fish taco is pretty good, so is their jalapeno pork, and so is the smoked chicken elote. Not a huge fan of their garlic shrimp taco or their beef colorado. Taco Ocho is a favorite of mine that I revisit at least once a month. The Mango Kale salad with Ancho shrimp is my absolute favorite thing on the menu. However, their tortas are AMAZING (the bread is so good). I highly recommend the Chicken Tinga and the Tripleta. The tostadas and tacos are also very, very good (tinga is, again, my favorite). Overall, quality of our tacos were really good...all the way through to the tortillas (corn and flour). Two taco plates are served with rice, black beans, and chips and salsa. I got the grilled Cabo fish taco and brisket, my husband got the fish and the Latin Lover. Overall, portions are generous and even each taco had a good amount of protein.
