First time visiting this location. First off, this is a small hole-in-the-wall joint, perfect for a visit by Guy Fieri. It was very busy on Sunday but we only had to wait ten minutes to be seated. There was lots of staff, busy bussing tables, taking orders, checking the buffet (more on that later), etc. Their menu is mostly typical Mexican fare, breakfast, lunch and dinner items, so not unexpected with a name like Taco Olé right? The wife chose the Three Chalupa meal which came with rice and beans. Evidently Chalupa means something different than what we expected. What she got was what we refer to as "tostadas" with cheese, beans, lettuce, tomato and jalapeño slices. According to the waitress the distinction lies in what type of cheese is used - shredded vs sheeted sauce and possible whether the tortilla is corn or flour. I'm not sure. Anyway, the wife LOVED them. Particularly after I told her about the different salsas, chopped fresh jalapeños and chopped cilantro that was available at the aforementioned buffet. THEN she was ecstatic! I chose to try their buffet. While it was on the smallish size, the quality of the offerings was outstanding. Their rice and beans were very flavorful to start with. I also had a couple of chicken taquitos with the customary green avocado sauce served on them. There were sone enchiladas, which I didn't try, some chicken in molé, and a couple of items I couldn't identify. There must've been a soup or two as well. I did try a French toast/bread pudding type dish that was very good. Kinda an offset to the savory things I did eat. I also tried a few of the sausage rounds that were grilled. They were ok but I can make that at home so I wasn't wowed. Now..... what I DID find that I can't or haven't made at home was THE BEST Carnitas I've possibly ever eaten! Anywhere! Wow, just so amazingly succulent, tender, flavorful.... I'm running out of adjectives, Lol. I told my wife that they were "little mouth orgasms"!!! I'd go back just for the carnitas. They were that good. Oh, and they serve them with what seem to be house made, fresh corn tortillas too! We definitely will be going back here in the next two months we're in The Valley. Mexican Botana for 1 was enough for two of us! Well, it wasn't that good. Left behind a lot of chicken and beef. We got the mixed tortillas and only got 1 flour and 4 corn! We asked for another salsa and had wait, and we finally asked another waitress. Not returning, as RGV has a lot of Mexican restaurants to choose from. 5/8 & 9/ 2019 Returned with a friend. Ordered an omelette: Simple enough. Okay, here's where the problems started. Asked for cheese in omelette, and the cook just threw it on top. I sent it back because I wanted it inside with the vegetables. All the cook did was turn the omelette upside down!!! I explained that I could have done that. The waiter asked if I wanted them to cook this over. You don't return food! And my friend had complaints about the day before and wanted to try them figuring it had been an off day. She had asked for fresh jalepeno and they added the ones that have vinegar!!! You know the ones that come in the jar! Wow! She said she wouldn't even give them one star!!! read more

I have been going to taco Ole for many years and the last couple of years have been disappointing. We ordered a botana for four mixed fajita and chicken. The fajita tasted so bad that we all spotted it out. As we mentioned it to me the waitress she seemed annoyed. But honestly the meat was disgusting, the beans were burned and the rice was reheated, who knows how many times. We left our drinks full and got up to leave they charged us our drinks and gave us a .50 cents discount on our drinks. Overall, I'm not sure how people continue to go to this place. Since the bazans passed the place has gone down. I do believe the health inspector should make an unexpected stop and check out this place. read more

Tonight I had a bad experience with this location and it's the second and will be the last time I ever order from this establishment. I called an order around 7:50pm, a botana for two people for takeout and I kindly asked the lady on the phone if they could please make sure the meat was fresh because the last time I had ordered they gave me reheated meat, and it did not taste good. She said okay no worries I'll go ahead and make sure to tell my manager so she can check. I said thank you, and I went by through the drive thru to pick it up. Even gave them a tip, just to come home and realize the meat was dry and charred. I'm pregnant and was sharing this meal with my two toddlers and I became so upset that I paid $50 for this poor quality meal so I ended up having to drive back to ask for a refund. I understand sometimes when restaurants are very busy things happen but they were definitely NOT busy, this is definitely poor food handling and laziness on their part to serve reheated dry meat. If you make the unfortunate mistake of ordering from the Taco Ole on Shary, don't trust that your order will include the basics such as chips, salsa, veggies, even tortillas! According to the manager Susie, yes even tortillas are "complimentary" and are not expected to part of a botana for 6 order. I was offered to order and PAY for another botana ($120) and only then they would make sure tortillas were included this time. No type of credit or refund was even offered for food that they forgot to include in my order. Such a horrible experience and that managers attitude towards the situation was just ridiculous. If 0 stars was an actual rating, the Taco Ole on Shary would have earned it! read more

Taco Ole is one of my favorite places to get Mexican food! This location has to be my favorite though. I love the feel of the restaurant & the service is always great. I typically order the Mexican plate. It comes with an enchilada, chalupa, crispy taco, & rice/beans. Since I don't like the crispy taco I'll ask for a substitution for an additional chalupa instead. I've never had issues for asking for a substitution which is great! I really love chalupas, haha. The buffet is also really good! If you're not set on what to eat off the menu it's a good choice. A lot of the menu options are a part of the buffet. I would also recommend trying the fideo. I've come into the restaurant before where the fideo is complimentary (like the chips n salsa) & I've been in before where they charge additional. In any case though it's good & worth a try! ALSO don't forget to order the sweet tea, I love it soooo much I always get a cup to-go. Very disappointed in today's service. Ordered Caldo Tlapeno, had been craving it, to be picked up. Got home to find out it was just chicken soup. My husband called and returned to pick up a correct order, just to find out that it was still chicken soup. They only added cheese and avacado. I don't think I'll be eating there soon. read more

We came in to try the weekend buffet. They offered a large selection - enchiladas, brisket, chicken, BBQ, several sides and dessert. They even have ice cream. Everything was delicious. The restaurant was clean and the staff were attentive. I've read previous reviews and I did NOT see any bugs or bad food. Management changes and improvements are made. This is a Mission, TX staple. I grew up coming to this family restaurant often. I have fond memories of coming here before or after Friday night football games and after church on Sundays. My family has even had several birthday, first communion, and confirmation celebrations here. Great food, great service, and superb sweet tea. My only minor complaint would be that recently I've noticed the botanas/fajitas/rice/nachos tend to be a little more on the greasy side. I know that's what you can expect ordering these delicious foods, but I'm sure the grease can be taken down a slight notch. Other than that, I love my Taco Ole! :) read more

I have lived I'm mission all my life and taco ole has been there all my life. When I was younger it was the best restaurant in town. Now the restaurant is horrible. I have seen cockroaches and various bugs. I have gotten sick from this place and vowed never to return. I have even contacted channel 5 and the health dept. Stay away whatever you do. read more

I have ordered botanas to go twice now in the past few months. I haven't dined in, but so far I like the food. The botana for four will actually feed more than four people. The cost of the botana comes out to something like $10 per person excluding drinks (assuming there's four of you). Like I said, I haven't dined in but so far I like this restaurant. read more

I'm very disappointed in there restaurant I have been going there for some time now and with the covid thing going on I can understand you have to make ends meet but when you change things around faster than the cdc let's you that's sad . Your menudo you have changed and your employees say it's not it doesn't taste like the the same when u had the buffet it looks like in the can that u buy. And when you order your food you never get a ticket you pay at cash register and u pay like I did but not knowing they add other stuff or different prices on your ticket that you never see. Anyway this has been going on since all restaurants had to close and then they reopened and this is when this started. I went to pay for my food witch I didn't have a ticket as I went to the register so I told the lady I had a small munedo and a hamburger basket with ice tea she said and tortillas I said yes mam she said those are extra I said I didn't no that and I wasn't told that but ok and there's a 3 present extra charge for using a credit card what for who knows!!! It sure wasn't for satanizing because my napkin she gave me was dirty and my minus was filthy.. come on people do take it out on your customers for the covid thing and charge extra to us thinking we won't see it .. sorry to complain but I'm done from your restaurant.. not once not twice but three times and this has happened.. read more

They get one star because I can't give zero stars. Pancakes were hard as a rock. My wife waited 20 minutes for eggs, and they came out raw (white part of the eggs was runny/raw). Then they included a tip in the total and didn't tell me, and when I added tip the cashier didn't say anything. When I questioned her about the total, she got very defensive and didn't want to give me my additional tip back. Had to ask several times to get my extra tip money back. We had lunch at theTaco Ole Restaurant in Sharyland a week ago. The place is nice and cute. My husband and daughter had the lunch buffet and they enjoy it a lot. They liked the huge ribs serviced and all the food was freshly made. I had breakfast and that too was very good too. I especially enjoy the pancakes. They have the best pancakes in town!! I highly recommend everyone to go to this particular location because the owners are very nice and attentive to your needs. I will be returning a lot in the future. read more
